$99 Telstra Mobile Plan with 150GB Data on a 12-Month Contract, $30 Monthly Credit & Bonus $500 Gift Card @ JB Hi-Fi in-Store

1971

This is a variation of what is normally available.
Have just been sent a flyer showing this deal for this weekend only.

$99 a month
150gb of data with no excess data charges (capped speeds)
5g availability
12 month contract (not the 24 they are doing now)
$30 monthly credit. (Assuming for first 12 months)
$500 gift card. (No expiry)

Effectively $69 a month
Minimum total cost over 12 months is $828

$828-500=328
$328/12 = $27 a month

It's no $59 a month with $500 giftcard but you get 70gb extra.

What are the odds of Telstra giving you the $10 off port-in credit since this has the $30 monthly credit?

    • will try tomorrow.

      • how? you never know til port in.

      • Will be keen to hear from you mate!

        • got the $10 I did not port in sorry - i had a new number, then transferred old via loophole

          • +1

@cauilfield: so you actually paying $59 per month?

How did you get the $10 bouns? Telstra online chat?

          • @cauilfield: Ur a legend mate, thanks for getting back to us!

          • @cauilfield: Did the same, was rejected by telstra rep online.. was told can't be stacked :(

            • @Quizera: try again, tell them an in-store agent promised you additional $10.

    • +4

Maybe they’ll apply the $10 and remove $30?

    • I do not think they will be giving the $10 welcome bonus like they usually did as the $30 credit will be given.

      • +1

they gave me a lumpsum of $10*12=$120 as the bill credit.

        • thanks for your confirmation.

Did you get a new number or port-in existing number?

  • is this nation wide? when i click on the link, it's showing an $89 ($99-$10) @24month contract, with a $900 gc. the $69 ($99-$30=$69) @12months, only shows $300 gc

  • I am currently with JB Telstra deal, can I sign up this one?

    • -2

No.. you have to port out for at least 30 days.

      • Incorrect, I’ve only been out 4 days and I could get this deal.

        • -1

That was the official answer from jb hifi employee. If you did it, doesn’t mean it is the norm and everyone will be able to do it.

    • Yes. See above posts by user vietjesus on this thread. I've been able to do the same.

  • Isn’t the $69 per month for 12 months with $500 GC a better offer, unless it’s not available anymore.
Edit - Sorry, missed the $30 monthly credit which makes this deal better for the extra data for the same price.

My old plan just finished yesterday, does new number + old number port still works? Or is loophole closed?

    • Still works, did it the other week

      • Can confirm it still also works, did it a few weeks ago.

        • What's the loophole?

    • What loophole?

    • still works. Did it on Tuesday.

    • Can you explain the steps in clear? I'm on same boat

  • +1

    No international calls.

  • can get another $10 off per month via telstra chat?

    • Someone earlier said they were going to try that tomorrow, let's see what happens

    • yes!

      • what did you tell the rep?

  • -3

Why these deals are so popular here, it's only a deal if you really need a massive data in your plan and you thinking of buying something from JB. Usually their prices are high and they usually sux at price matching.

    • +6

Where else can you get Telstra 5g for $27 approx??

      • Yeah but still last time I had jb gift card, I end up buying shit that don't need. Even with my 5g phone, 4g still fine, it's a deal but I don't get the fact that why ppl so crazy about it.

    • +1

it's only a deal if you really need a massive data in your plan and you thinking of buying something from JB.

Which is what I'm looking for and I would gather many others by the upvotes.

Where can you also get Telstra 5G for ~$27…?

Yeah but still last time I had jb gift card, I end up buying shit that don't need

Why did you do that? It's not like you need to spend the GC immediately.

Even with my 5g phone, 4g still fine

Some people use it as a replacement to their home internet. Some use it for gaming which requires low latency e.g. Xbox Cloud Gaming etc

      • Doesn't have to be 5G even before 5g these deals are so popular. Deal it's a deal but , but not sure why so many up votes. All I can see is JB marketing department doing a good job based on future benefits.
If it's a WW or Coles gift card then it's a different story.

    • This particular one is quite popular for the ideal it could match September 2020s offering of $59/month for 80gb + $500 GC if you can get the $10 port in credit applied to the OPs listed deal.
If you sold the gift card at 10% off via the OzB forum and put that cash towards the plan, plus successfully claimed the $10 port in credit via Telstra chat the plan would cost $21.50/month for 150gb.
I’d say this deal is not as popular as September 2020 due to the risk of not being able to claim $10 credit/month.

Further ‘savings’ to be had if you claim your mobile usage as a business expense at tax time (which you can claim at the full $69/$59/month, even though you’ve put cash towards the plan using the gift card sold earlier on.

  • Can I get eSIM on this plan?

  • Can I use the sim on a Nighthawk M5? just wondering if it will allowed. I know they said you cant use a mobile broadband sim on a mobile phone.

    • +1

Yes you can. Been running mine for a year now, just signed up for this, will switch sims and keep using.

  • +1

Still no inclusive international calling in $99 plan. Otherwise good deal.

    • +1

According to Telstra yesterday (I was looking at the JB deal) you now also cannot add the International calling pack to 3rd party plans (this used to be possible).

  • Any tips to transfer across from boost prepaid?

    • Port out to a $2 Voda Sim and wait for port to complete

      • Where do I get one of those?

        • Supermarkets, Officeworks, petrol stations

    • Why moving from boost? Not enough data?

      • Partly that and 5g

  • I’m on Belong currently.

Can I just port over as a new customer or do I have to port out for 30 days?

    • 30 days for Telstra/Belong/Belong - although that could be longer if what above commenters have suggested is true.

      • Thanks. This is out for me then I guess.

  • Can you purchase over the phone calling a store?

  • Can I buy one of these JB Telstra plans and stick it in a router that has 4g support (or stick it in a old phone and somehow bridge it to a router)? I pay $65 a month for nbn and don't use more thab 100GB a month. Mostly netflix and some uhhhh some occasional 4gb file downloads.

I was using Telstra and currently ported out to Voda. I get good speeds and coverage at home with 4g Telstra.

    Appreciate some thoughts/ feedback.

    • Yes.
You can also use the Sim in your phone, and get an additional data share Sim for $5pm to use in the 4g modem, which shares data from the same account.

      • I didnt know there was the option of data share sim. Thank you!

      • Is the data share sim definitely available for the telstra jb plans?

        • Good question. I know data share is definitely available on the normal Telstra plans. You'll have to ask JB if their plans allow for it.

        • +2

It most definitely isn’t. JB uses the old Telstra system which doesn’t allow for data sharing across plans. Only plans offered through Telstra directly do.

    • +1

      yes.

    • +2

You can just stick it into your old phone and turn on hotspot for other devices to connect to the broadcast wifi. The problem is the phone must be plugged in to the charged all the time and gets hot in summer.

  • +1

Is this instore only? I do you get the $30 monthly credit? Automatic?

    • Yes. See next. Yes - applied when you sign up

  • I signed up for the $59/month and the $500 gift card in September last year. So I ported out to Optus for the last month and went in this morning and signed up, no problems. Have tried to get the $10 welcome credit but they said that it is already included in this deal. Will try again a bit later but looks like you can’t get the extra $10 welcome port in credit.

  • Thought $99 for 12 months. 😋

  • +2

Just got this dea by porting back in, only ported out of a similar JBHIFI $500 gift card deal during the week with Amaysim.
Had only been with Amaysim for 4 days.

  • Will this work if you are already with telstra but not on a plan?

  • Very tempting. Bit of a shame I already got my pixel.

Currently pay $25/mth with Aldi. I don't need the data or 5G but given its almost equivalent cost per month, it might be worth doing it anyway! Plus I'm planning to try out xcloud.

  • Should I go ahead with this or wait until the $59/month + $500 gift card is back? Hmmm

    • You have this deal available now compared to a possible deal later.

One in the hand is worth two in the bush?

  • Can people confirm if this is port in only or new customer is possible

    • +1

      New service as well

  • Previously we had deal for data sim and $600 credit for iPad Pro.
Can the gift card be used for iPad Pro?

  • Called back from weribee and they asked if I could go in store. I asked if it was busy and they said yes. Asked if I could just do it over the phone and they said they can only do a $400 gift card.

    What

  • What's the cap speed on this?

    • Mine maxes out at 400/15.

      • Sorry I'm asking about the capped speed after the 150gb

        • +2

No Excess Data Charges In Australia
Once you exceed your included data allowance, your speed willbe capped at 1.5Mbps, and slowed further in busy periods.

  • Transfer complete. Thanks OP. I've been waiting for a deal like this.

  • Any chance to add international talk with these plans

  • +4

confirming $10 deal worked well, for a new number (I am pretty sure) this will work for port ins as well.

    This makes this deal crazy;

($99-30-10)*120-$500=208 over 12 months = $17.33 per month for 150 gig of data on telstra network.

    • How? Telstra chat?

      • yeah

        • What did you say to them? Live chat refused to add it for me (port in)

    • How did you do it? What did u ask the live chat rep?

    • +1

if you can exchange your $500 JB gift card for $500 AUD and put it towards your plan. If so, do share! Going rate on OzB classifieds is 10% off face value when selling JB gift cards.

      • i'm going to purchase something there nayways

      • I doubt so as JB gift cards are for usage in JB while the plan billing goes directly to Telstra. The 2 are not connected.

        • Precisely my point. You can’t pay for your phone bill via a gift card, so for the maths to work you’d have to sell off the gift card / exchange it with someone for cash that could then be put on the bill.
