      They can go eat themselves.

    • +13

      "within the first hour"

BS, they were sold out before they even opened due to staff hoarding all they could.

    • +1

It's not about the stock, it's about how staff members took all the good stuff. At the Glen Waverley store, a staff member told the mob about the limited stock levels etc. so not that many disappointed people, although there were about 50-80 outside before the store opened and the only console they had was a pink dsi.

      • +1

I just left there empty handed, not because of the little left over, but I couldn't choose between mm:the experience and singstar:take that lol

  • +1

Didn't get the console I wanted. Apparently were som 360's but I didn't run as no idea where to run to. Got a 360 250gb hard drive for $50 (eligible for $26 cashback) Wii numbchucks and starter kit, a couple Wii Fit starter kits $1, good for xmas presents and a few games.
Not the deal of all time but pretty alright.

  • I got a copy of Assassains creed 2 and metroid other M for 5 dollars. Other than that it was really bad, got to DSE Hurstville at 8:30 and my friend got to DSE Eastgardens at the same time. There was absolutely, i wanted to get a xbox controller but the first guy in the line grabbed all 3 and all of the 3000 point microsoft cards.

  • Come back from RoseLands shopping Dick Myth , and I saw the guy with around 10 cards 1500 Microsoft Live Point in his hand and some headphone =/. Nothing left over only some psp and DSi , but the queue line to checkout is longgggggg and I'm look at their faces I think they hoping for buy some stuff even not in the sale list . Lucky for me I just sneak out in morning break time not take the whole day off for nothing like some guys…

    • Ah I think the guy with 4 cards 1500 and 3 3000 not really 10 my bad

  • EPIC FAIL

  • +2

Over 100 people lined up at melbourne, bourke st store. They weren't even open at 9:00am. What a sham.

    • haha probably giving time for staff sales.

  • -1

These comments are the funniest thing I've read for quite a while. Combine "clearance" and the fact that everyone knew the staff had first dibs, and what did people expect?

    • Staff are also going to get last dibs, for the few weeks they have left with a job. Suck that DSE staff.

  • I planned on going in today at lunch, and get alot of Wii bargains! WOOT! bought about 8 games, 3 wireless joysticks, wii fit stuff etc etc (only wii though dont have a ps3 or xbox) all well under priced.
I just wanted to compliment the DS staff at Rhodes-he checked stock for me, walked me through the bargain and spoke rudely about pretty much everyone else who attended.
    Did everyone forget their manors?

  • +1

Dick Smith at Rhodes hardly has anything at all!, and if they did, nothing was on for sale price, if anything it seems they have marked things up!

  • +1

    nothing in the sydney store

  • +1

So many Logitech g27s on ebay. Its going to be funny when they dont sell for much more than they got them for due to the spike in supply.. Missed out on a g19 in the morning by a few metres. Guy in front of me grabbed the only 2 in stock and took them for himself. Wheres all the love gone. Ended up getting a g510 for 80.75 from officeworks with pricematch.

  • +2

    Big fail DSE

  • +9

I love that every time I refresh the page, there are about 5 more negative votes :)

    • -4

Endless supply of short buses on the internet.

  • went to dse Karingal was first in store about 25 ppl waiting
    no consoles no hardware
    picked up
Hawx 2, avatar, nfs 2, mafia 2, and la noire for $5 each

    • +1

So why is the deal a neg for you?

  • +2

Who does deals? Dick does not

  • fail

  • +5

Best troll/meme pic about this fiasco yet
    http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/536747_366066…

    • +3

Kinda wrong though as he don't own DSE.

    • +9

To be fair, Dick Smith has had nothing to do with the store for almost 30 years.

      • Not only that, Dick Smith has actually tried to support the Australian Agriculture sector :\
I'd rather my veggies grown in Australia from a bogan farmer than veggies imported from China grown with sewage water :S

  • +1

There was no stock remaining for any of the things I wanted, even though it said "In Stock" on their website this morning right before the store opened. Heaps of the games on the leaked list weren't even on sale, and the staff didn't properly mark the games that were discounted. I managed to get a copy of Kirby's Epic Yarn for $15 only because I had my phone with me checking online prices. Otherwise it would probably still be sitting on the shelf advertised as $89.
I'm not at all surprised, as I'm sure most people were expecting the sale to be a massive disappointment. But what annoys me is how Dick Smith confirmed and hyped up the sale as they did, they should never have done that.

  • Anyone been to Macquarie centre

  • +3

I found no stock on their website this morning. I went to the Albury store at opening hoping to buy at least 1 item I wanted but I couldn't find any stock of anything except for Xbox LIVE 12 month and 1500 points cards. I took it to the counter and the staff said the cards were full price and only the other cards are on special. I asked for the other cards and she said they had none.

Do you have any DSi? No.
Do you have these Wii games? No.
Do you have these PC games? No.
    Do you have… No.
    Do… No.

My fuel was wasted on this non-event.

I'm negging this deal because there was no stock of any item.

    • +3

It was all behind the counter with staff tags on 'em! ;-)

  • +7

Arrived at my store at 4.30am to be first in line, managed to pick up a PS3 320GB FIFA12 bundle :D

    • +3

pretty sure you're a 'happy camper' now

      • Little bit :P

      • +1

        Must be a Battlefield player.

        • Nope haven't touched my copy in months.

  • +2

    Dickhead deal lol
i think most people comment just so that they can neg it

  • +1

Walked into Parramatta Westfields store around 10am, and still managed to get
    -Dead Island $10
    -LA Noire $5
    -NFS Shift 2 $5
    -Hawx 2 $5

They must have had heaps of stock to begin with

    • Lucky on Dead Island!

    • Possible they held some back, then put it out later.

  • IMHO, This was irresponsible of DSE to list items this cheap - if you sell something below the second hand price, you ARE going to get hordes of people.

  • +2

If this was an unofficial clearance sale then DSE should not have confirmed it on FB. If it was a legitimate sale then they should have been very clear about the lack of stock.

They could have prevented a lot of rage by simply limiting purchases to one major clearance item (ie console, G27 etc) per person, including staff. That way the first 10 people could have gotten something worthwhile, rather than just staff and the first person into the store.

    I'm glad I didn't bother going in.

  • No stock online. No stock in store.

  • +1

lmao the dick smith FB page is funny. shame i didn't view it before they deleted the other posts on it

  • Wanted G19 Keyboard and 9x Mouse

Scored G15 Keyboard with MX518 Mouse.. not to bad for me i reckon

  • And to think I got down voted to eternity for my initial neg, hah. What a crap sale.

  • +1

Some got lucky, the majority did not. Law of the Jungle. Still giving this a neg because most of the stock was already gobbled up by staff.

  • i knew there wouldn't be much after staff pre-bought stock. I just walked in and bought a Logitech G9x Gaming mouse priced at a rediculous $188 in store down to $20 bux then watched as a 100 people scrambled for the games.

  • +4

Ugly scenes at DSE Erina, had to fight off small girl for an empty DSi Box

    • LOL did you win?

      • +3

For an empty DSi box hell yes, for an EMPTY box not so much

    • LOL

    • I think this would have boiled down to who had the money to pay for the DSi.

    • i wonder why the staff did not put more empty console boxes. would be a very funny prank. (and a riot)

  • neg'ed for obvious reasons, com'on dicky your not gonna get laid with deals with low/no stock.

    • -8

Yeah, it's brainless to not buy in a heap of old stock (from somewhere) to stock up for a clearance sale. DS idiots.

    • +1

dick smith sold the rights to his name a long time ago. he doesn't have anything to do with the store

  • +1

    seriously waste of time.

  • +5

Same old story at Wendouree Store, tiny table with hardly anything on it, staff member told me no consoles left but all 3 staff were very "odd" when I asked. Staff member then told me staff have already grabbed all the good stuff besides the g27's as they had heaps of them.

Whats the odds that this sale is a double edged sword and DS are going to track the staff that purchase items themselves that they have put away (by camera's, sales data with times etc) and then they won't have to offer any "redundancy" type package when stores get closed, they can just fire them for breach of company policy instead, saving a fortune in staff payouts! I know someone who works for woolworths and in recent times staff putting things away for purchase later have been instantly dismissed - just my 2 bob, makes sense for a big company to get out of a lot of payouts!

    • If you're a casual employee, would you give a damn?

      • True True, didn't think of that, I'm sure majority would be full or part time though.

    • nudge nudge wink wink …

    • Good theory

  • Can someone POST RECEIPT FOR THE XBOX WIRELESS HEADSET $5 I scanned it at $64.95

  • +11

Went into my local friendly Dick Smiths just before it opened only to see through the glass laughing staff moving stuff (consoles etc.) into the backroom. Then store opened, went in and there was 1 copy of gamers choice red faction guerilla, wii michael jackson and mystery case files for the specials in total. Asked about the backroom and was told staff only, just a storage room. Hmmm.

DSE has really outdone themselves this time - classic bait and switch + EPIC FAIL Sale.

Whoever leaked this 'deal' and the dse management should be fired on the spot for this prank!

EVERYBODY NEEDS TO NEG THIS DEAL

  • Holy crap, just about to hit 150negs…

  • +1

    Total waste of time.

  • +8

As correctly predicted by blitz on page three of these comments, this certainly has become "Dick's Myth".
This company has effectively destroyed a huge portion of their client base.

    • Yes, Ozbargain is a huge portion of their client base. Just get a clue, and stop thinking you're massively more important than you are.

      • +4

I'm actually not just talking about OzBargain.
        1. Out of the hundred people I lined up with this morning - the vast majority left disappointed/angry.
        2. Add in the number of people that would leave disappointed/angry through the rest of the day
        3. Multiply that out over however many hundred Dick Smith stores there are in Australia
        4. Half that number to get an estimate of the number of people that will actually follow through with their "never shipping at Dickie's again" statements

That is a pretty big number, Mic Cullen.

    • -1

Damn, what will Dick Smith do without a bunch of cheapskates trying to get items far below cost. The ripples of this event will cause another global financial crisis.

      • You really don't think that Dick Smith will feel any backlash from this debacle at all?

        • +1

Most people will forget about the whole thing in a month, and the majority of people who shop at Dick Smiths probably didn't even know about it. If people complaining on the Internet had any basis on real life then TPG and Dodo would have been out of business years ago.

  • Got to the G19's first, guy takes the one I go for - and the other one. Won't share either. Blergh. Not negging because it's not Dicky's fault, but it wasn't a nice experience. Staff were sympathetic but wouldn't make the dude share. Meh, still happy with my G27 from yesterday.

    • apply the Spock Nerve Pinch!

    • +2

You got there first and didn't get 1? Time to
      Build a pair

  • Rubbish

  • Some fat man with a pram ran in, took all the microsoft points and whatever else his greasy hands could get. He literally took all the 1500 point cards (about 30), the 12 months (about 20) and all the 3000 points (about 15).

    • -1

      and he's winning

    • +13

Why is it always a greedy fat guy with a trolley?
Can this be the same obese menace that others have seen??

      • I took a trolley, but I also took my mum and she needs it to lean on, gotta admit it was handy though to stick stuff in while I looked up the prices.

      • The trolley is for his snack supply ofc

      • +1

fat guys had too much of the $2 whooper and chips deal

      • +1

Haven't you ever wondered what Santa does during off season, and where all these gifts are coming from in this economic downturn with elves being laid off work?

    • +1

didn't know a fat man can actually run!

      • +3

they don't. They waddle. But they've evolved to the point where waddling on dry land is like waddling in the kiddie pool.

  • +1

does anyone know if we can get the G19 Keyboard price match with office, only problem seem like all g19 keyboard at office are speical order. can we still ask them to price match it? if could i will go this afternoon, thanks

  • thought of buying Gran Turismo 5, not in sale

    • -6

Excellent reason for negging. Well done.

They also didn't have 50" plasmas for $3. Stupid DS.

      • +5

Dude, whether you like it or not what DS did today was not very clever from a marketing point of view (the people on OZbargain have friends and family) nor was it from a legal and commercial point of view (any purchaser can now reduce purchase price which will affect the shareholders and they might have legal recourse against Woolworths and DS for cheating them out of a proper sale price for the chain). Also, staff will be reviewed. And finally, as a person educated in legal matters and practice I can tell you that this kind of bait might well be considered illegal if taken before a court as a lot of the item advertised for sale were never for sale to the public in the first place, not even in limited numbers.
So, if you have got nothing better to do than to throw around some sarcasm, bugger off, and grow some hair and courage.

        • -1

So you think that even if the game wanted wasn't being cleared, they should just sell it to him for a massively-low sale price so he'll be happy? Retailing genius, right there.

        • +3

It was actually in sale as confirmed by their hotline. Yet the store refuses to sell it at that price but rather hides it behind the counter. I have seen it in Brisbane today. So, yes, if it is on the list and officially included by HQ then the stores should sell it and not tell lies to customers so they can then buy the games afterwards from under their counter.
Fairness and common sense genius right there!

        • where did all this information come from, it was not Dick Smith themselves in a big newspaper add it was just leaked information online that people saw and thought everyone would be able to get little did they know it was just a few consoles in a few stores. I worked at officesworks and we from time to time would get computers and cameras marked down to $30 just to get rid of them if that was leaked online you would have the same result as this people getting angry at a company that did nothing wrong

        • +4

Again, it is NOT the limited sock issue but that staff lies and acts against what they have been told by HQ. They were NOT allowed to buy any items on sale for themselves or anybody else. All sale items had to be available to customers and not to be hoarded in the staff room. Again, confirmed by Dick Smith HQ. Problem is no one enforced these rules.

        • +3

          Stop feeding the troll guys.

      • +1

        i thought trolls had hair…

        • Well, if that is his pic, he obviously doesn't. :-)

  • +3

got an xbox for $100. i'm surprised to see the amount of people that take the worst view senario and think they're smarter then everyone else because of their pesudo-ephiphany. no Dick's Myth going on in my experience. maybe those of us that did get what we wanted are just smarter than the average bear (if bears used ozbargain).

    • +2

Or willing to claw it from the hands of babies.

People aren't disgruntled that they missed out, if it was an ordinary sale people wouldn't care. People are disgruntled about the poor display by what seems to be many staff (which again wouldn't be a problem if DS were straight-up about it), no attempt to curb the depressing displays of sheer greed shown by many (see reports of people grabbing dozens of the same item), and general failure to properly organise and prepare for the sale.
