Went to two stores this morning not even after the big ticket items, just hoping to get some new ds games. The choices were maths training and some barbie pony game :(

  • -6

To those who thought they could just get anything they want off that list that leaked, you're idiots. It was a list of everything that was being reduced, it doesn't necessarily mean there was stock of it.

Oh no, you didn't get a game or a console really cheap, and wasted time going to Dick Smith this morning. Your life is so miserable and difficult now.

  • +4

Commenting just so I can neg this deal.

"An unwanted birthday gift. Never been used only opened box for inspection purposes. A must have for MW3 fans (would keep it my self if I didn't already own one) Paid $650, dont be a sucker like me and buy it now!"

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180855…

Get him! Contradicting himself with a terrible lie.

    • Lol

    • +3

      "An unwanted birthday gift."
      "Paid $650"

      -face palm-

      • +1

While I can't vouch for his honesty, the way I read it was along the lines of "I already had this edition of a console that I purchased for $650, and then I was given this new one that is exactly the same as a birthday gift".

That said, I find it highly unlikely that someone would not know that a person already had a $650 console before deciding what to buy a person for their birthday.

    • Saw it for $299 today lol.

    • He states the wired headset is worth $59. LOL

    • +5

Oh look, an edit. He must have been getting some abuse.

On 02-Apr-12 at 15:05:54 AEST, seller added the following information:

Edit: I was given this as a birthday present but sadly had already purchased the console last year when it was released from eb games for $650. I am selling this one because I already own the limited edition bundle. Sorry about the confusion

Going to purposely make fake accounts behind proxies and ruin his auction.

      • +2

        DO ITTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Your ip might be blocked by ebay, so probs don't do it. Just report the listing.

        • +1
Alternatively, use a USB Mobile Broadband stick with a jumping IP (dynamic?) and make sure you haven't logged into both (real and fake) ebay accounts on that i.p.

  • +2

I didn't neg because the stock, I neg'd because of the staff

  • Picked up two Wii games for $3. Absolute crap games but I'm sure the kids wont complain.

  • went to two sotres at opening time, both had virtually nothing, gave me and a few other customers advice to go to a different store with more stock, nothing there either. hopeless sale

  • bad bad promotions.

  • +4

If you were in the staff's situation though 99% of you would reserve stock for yourself.

    • +4

      True.. but…

      1. This deal should not get 343 positive votes. Very limited quantity of each item.
      2. Super low pricing so staff simply cannot resist taking advantage.

What DS should have done, is to let the staff have the first go, then prepare for the sale.

People shouldn't have high expectation on this… I agree (I didn't go coz. I know my luck on these unbelievable bargain type deals). However, DS could have done a much better job. If the original intention was to let customers have some bargain deals, but it ended up being your own staff getting most of the benefits, then it probably should have been a staff only event.

    • Exactly. Working a retail job has to have SOME perks.

      • +1

Yes because it's so stressful and tiring… the poor darlings that are DSE staff; we really should cut them some slack.

You haven't been on OB for long have you? DSE staff have always been unanimously ranked as the least helpful and informed staff in tandem with HN for years now.

  • Went to dicksmith fairfield nsw at 7:30am, at 9:00am aprox 40 people fighting several copies of games. With only less then 10 games worth considering, there were no consoles or logitech on sale. Only old games under $60 were discounted to $5 - $15. Many disappointed customers except for me for ps3 games and another person fro xbox games.

  • I'm glad i didn't bother.

  • there's a whole bunch of hiliarious comments and rage on Dicksmith Facebook page…https://www.facebook.com/dicksmithaustralia

  • Just went to Dick Smith at lunch to see what were left. There were only a few games left. I've spoken to one of the staff asking him whether he has any ps3 console left (pretty certain the answer would be no anyway). He told me there was none left as he took them all this morning (then laughed). He said he didn't even bother with the games as the consoles are enough profit for him. I'm not agaist staffs buying sale items but surely there should be a limit on how many items they're allow to purchase. I wasn't too upset when I heard that from him as I wasn't desperately looking to buy anything in particular but I can imagine how upset most people would be if they really wanted certain items & had to line up just to find out the staffs took them all.

    • Yea you do know that they hide consoles behind counters, don't mark price down items, leaving things on shelves just to tell you "they are not for selling!"

Seriously the staff just gonna grab everything half decent before the sale

  • Anyone notice any shoplifters? I know they took this as a top opportunity at the really busy stores.
Anyway next time we need to weld the doors closed at midnight to 'end' the false sales.

Not a rep :P and i found out reps can neg

    • You mean staff? I didn't, but plenty of others have.

Even if they were not staff, good on 'em for stealing. With the controversy surrounding this sale, they deserve to lose more than what they have.

      • +6

        Staff = Shoplifters

    • Didn't see any shoplifters but I had to exit the Knox store through the entrance because there were just too many people! (Don't worry, I didn't steal anything :P)

  • +2

The social media team at dick smith should have explained the situation better, that this was a staff sale gone wrong.

  • +5

Maybe it is just an easy way of getting rid of staff … every staff member who bought something is now fired. Then they close some of the stores and shift everything online. Much cheaper than redundancy packages ;-).

Serious: A sale were staff is allowed to buy the stuff before the customers (and made so cheap that resale on ebay makes sense) is not really a clever move. Bad management.

  • I ordered and click for a DSI pink on saturday (still on hold) for $159, can I go and get it for $50?

Anyone want it? Was going there for work but got cancelled. (at The Entrance Rd, Bateau Bay)

  • +1

Visited DSE Chatswood Westfields, no indication of any sale

  • Lined up outside the big Midland (WA) store, probably ~30 people waiting. Doors open and everyone walks in and goes to games or the counter, seems that most of the consoles were out back so gratz to the people who went to the counter first. They came out before and told us there is no G19's, no Xbox consoles or DSi's. Did seem to be about 3-5 ps3's though. 5-10 minutes later i strolled over to find a g15 display stock and scored that for $20! The guy went out back to look for the box and manual but couldn't find them. Staff seemed all rather friendly though which was good.

Went to the midland gate (WA) store after and they still had a whole desk for of marked down games and random accessories, saw someone buying a g9x but otherwise didn't see any thing else other than the g27 driving wheel. Took it up to the counter and scanned at $499.

    Deserved a repost: plexor

Can't believe the number of negs this has got. You're all stupid.

It's a clearance sale, therefore it is to clear out old stock.
There is obviously going to be limited stock, what did you expect? A DSi for $40? Yeah, really likely…
If you were smart enough you would have checked the store yesterday to see if what you wanted was in stock then, it's not as if they're going to put it all out overnight. You could have reserved it then too since Dick Smith do 48 hour holds.
To those complaining about staff getting stock first before the store opened, what would you honestly do if you were in their situation? Of course you're going to reserve stock for yourself first. When there's dozens of crazy people running into a store just so they can get some crappy game, I'd feel like taking it before them too.
This sale was not advertised, it was merely mentioned on Facebook and had a price list leak. They have done nothing wrong. Some stores had stock, some stores didn't…. suck it up.

    • +5

A few people have mentioned this.. and also that the sale was not advertised..

The sale WAS advertised. DSE mentioned several times on FB, Twitter and even a small amount on their website (crappy games) the sale. They also never denied the price list. They had every opportunity to say it wasn't so.

    • refer to Gallifrey's rebuttal above

    • I was also initially pissed off at staff buying first but earlier in the post I asked if it was normal for retailers to offer to staff first and someone said it was. Anyway, I got some good WII games such as NBA 2k11, ToyStory 3, Avatar so I can't complain.
People should note that this was not advertised and it was leaked. I actually read the memo from a dick smith staff as he left that memo on the counter while he got the disks. The memo said something along the line, due to the leaked sale, they are selling only specific items and then they listed only the items on sale.
You should not get pissed off at staff buying the consoles first because the company allows it then why would they not take advantage of it.

    • +2

      This again.

      1. What DS should have done is have an internal STAFF ONLY sale, let all the staff buy all they want. Then, prepare the sale accordingly. It is unprofessional to have a deal and people cannot get the items because staff took them before the sale commences.

      2. Don't put an item on a list unless each store has at least 5 of that item (or at least 50% of the stores have sufficient stock).

Crazy deals have happened before… but generally, not so many negative votes like this. Either this deal should not be posted in the first place or DS could have done a lot better.

Big plus to the mods, for allowing the comments to continue and not interfering.

  • +1

So i had to go back to DSE because my tony hawk board didn't come with the game LOL
Anyway i figured out why there is so little stock.
the actual games are kept in a large cupboard behind the counter
as they were getting my tony hawk i managed to grab 3 other 5 dollar games aswell (Dead island, Mafia 2 ,wolfenstein) Also i checked the shelves after and they were completely empty

My question is why arent these games on the shelves and behind the counter (or adleast the game covers)?

    • +1

They do make it difficult at times.

  • Why would shoplifters bother with $5 worth of crap?

    • no man i mean stealing heaps of other stuff while store is over busy

  • +4

    Dick's really a Dick now!!

  • went to geelong store the place was a mess, I saw "marked down" stock that was more expensive than what I saw it priced at in the same store 2 weeks ago. Total scam. I wont ever shop there again, and I have bought $1000s worth of stuff there over the years.

  • +2

The store I checked out had nothing. No consoles, no games and no peripherals.

    This sale was a crock.

  • Went to Riverton this morning, all the consoles are gone. The staffs shot gun the 2 that is on the shelf and took 6 DSis for him self. Only left with games and other crap stuff. =(

  • +2

    too funny

  • Anyway, I didn't bother going in store. I got that Wii storage tower, Driver PS3 Collectors Edition and some random $2 Wii Game.

  • +3

this is what happens when staff gets to buy first?

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=144450422348430&set=…

  • Did anyone at any SA stores get a DSi? Or see anyone else at SA stores get a DSi? I decided not to bother going at opening because I didn't think it was worth it, but interested to know if I actually would have had a chance. However I did casually walk into Northpark store on my way past at 11:30 and picked up the only game my bf wanted! Ps3 LA Noire for $5!

    • +1

did anybody in the country get a DSi?

      • got 2 on order, still waiting for pick up near newcastle area :P

        • +1

I've got some bad news for you…
You might wanna sit down first..

(a staff member took your DSi)

  • +28

I rarely neg deals, in fact I've only negged 3 deals on Ozbargain, this being the third but I guess I should post a reason as to why I feel this deserves a neg.

I know the prices were leaked by an employee but Dick Smith Australia had made a statement on facebook acknowledging the sale. And considering the 25k likes, this was pretty much a public-wide advertisement. It also came with some rules. The relevant one was this:

    • Click and Collect will not be available and stores will not be able to reserve stock

As I found out today, that is entirely bullshit.

The store I went to had most consoles already reserved along with some accessories as well.
Had I known this, I wouldn't have idiotically raced up there early in the morning hoping to get a console or a cheap game. Instead I would've called them up a few days before to reserve stock.

Staff had also taken stock for themselves, there's enough proof on this thread. I've personally seen one staff member take a keyboard into the back and telling me it was reserved for someone else. I'm surprised there's ANY stock left after the staff took the majority and the rest are reserved for people who phoned up(friends of staff?).

The rule they made up wasn't even strict, the least they could do was enforce it. I'm negging not due to the limited stock but because this clearance sale was misleading in the way it was played out - stock was gone BEFORE the sale had begun. This was a complete waste of a few hours and a 30 minutes drive.

    • Good post, false advertising to an extent

    • my thoughts exactly.

  • +2

crap deal. went to my local and there was lots of games/consoles on the shelf, nothing reduced!
some other guy asked about the sale at the counter and the guy said its all gone. probably some crap stock to begin with but doesnt look like they're getting out of the games business.

  • +3

Was at my local Dick Smith for 8:55am. About 30 people queuing. Wasn't after the hardware (they did apparently have 1 xbox and 2 DS) just some cheapie games. Managed to get the 2 I really wanted Fifa 11 and LA Noire both PS/3 for $5 each. Also picked up quite a few others at $5 that seemed vaguely interesting.

I had gone in on Sunday to get the G27 and as it was quiet the store manager had checked a list of 30 or so games I had. Was very pleasantly surprised when queuing they called me over and said they had put aside some of the games that had been checked the day before. I had picked up quite a few on that list in the sales bin so any dupes I put back so others could get them. Moral be nice to the staff and sometimes it pays off.

Even went to another store at lunchtime and they had apparently had to open early at 8:00 due to people and safety issue. Very few games left although they did have Red Dead Redemption at $50 not in the sale where as local store had overridden that price and sold it at $5 (I already have it on PS/3 but saw plenty of 360 versions in bin and 1 had been put aside for me as had left it on list but put it back).

So in two trips got 19 games (1 Wii, 8 360 & 10 PS/3) and a Wii storage tower for total $125. Most expensive was Wii Zelda Twilight Princess at $15. So +ve from me for original poster.

  • anyone got anything from bourke st/swanston st store in melbourne?

  • I checked online before stores were even open and most good things like the DSi was already sold out for the majority of stores? I don't understand

  • +2

lol can't believe the number of negative votes. So much nerd rage.

  • +4

I signed up to ozbargain just to neg this. THIS WAS A JOKE. False advertising, my partner went to 2 dicksmith stores (starting at 8:30 am) and FOUND NOTHING!

    • +1

If this is what it takes for you to sign up. Surely its a HUGE ISSUE

    • Why was it a joke? If you were expecting it to be an amazing sale then you are an idiot.
The purpose of this sale was to clear out all of the old stock which simply wasn't moving. The whole point of this sale was to clear out what little stock they had left of specific items.

      • +3

Don't false advertised stuff where its already 100% un-available at any stores on the day.
Don't hide goods in the back room where the previous day it was in stock.
Don't sell the G27 driving stick at one store at a discounted price and at another store at full price.
Don't say its a 7 million SELL OFF - where there is nothing to sell?
Don't call me an idiot - I didn't call u an idiot and I have the right not to like this deal, like so many people here!!

  • +3

    glad i didn't bother!

  • +5

    waste of time

  • +3

I reckon there'll be a bunch of stuff on Gumtree posted by DSE staff soon enough.

  • Managed to get Assasin creed 2, Harry Potter deathly hallows p1, Halo 3 odst and Mafia 2 for $5 each. Sims 2 Uni (PC) for $2. So many people at TTP with hardly any good games left, so I went straight to Golden Grove. Staff hadnt even place new stickers on the games yet!

  • +2

Rode my bike to the store and waited, nothing was left and the majority of listed items weren't even on sale.

    • +6

but look on the bright side.. you got some exercise!

    • Yeah apparently the rest of the items will be going on sale on the 11th. I took saints row 3 and the uncharted twin pack to the counter and that's what the guy told me.

      • You've just started the second riot

  • +9

DSE will never recover from this.

  • +3

got up at 6 WA Time and it was all over, couldn't log onto website either

  • +1

Just curious, are we all getting uptight about this sale based on someone leaking a list of titles.. thats it? Saw some games at my local store, nothing inspiring - just picked up FIFA 11 for PS3 as I needed one for the PS3 (my FIFA games are on 360).

  • so confusing. never seen so many +ve and -ve in 1 deal

    • +1

all the + are from before april 2nd and all the negs are april 2nd onwards (8am onwards)

  • Well I was very happy with the sale. I picked up a Nintendo Wii for $122 after my staff discount (and no I don't work for Dick Smiths) and I picked God of War for $5 and the Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort Double pack for $30.

  • waste of time

    • hahahaha!

Their facebook page is hilarious now!

  • +1

Such a waste of time. Piss off Dick Smith.

  • +3

I went into my local store this morning and lined up for ages, went in there and all I saw was a stupid employee grabbing something off the shelf and putting it behind the register for himself, I hate you DSE employees!

  • +1

I went to lidcombe and found the PX21 headset for $30. Well the guy got it from the back.
and I got the Tony Hawke skate board for $5. they were all at the front. cheap

    • I went to the register with a PX21, scanned in at 100 and something.

  • +1

Luckily i didnt lose any sleep and waste any time over this sale. I knew there was gonna be nothing left as Dick Smith didnt have many games to begin with anyway.

  • +1

yeah this was a waste of time, but I guess limited stock and we mostly were beaten by SEAGULLS, including store staff.

The difference between the average OzBargain reader and a seagull? They are so damn fast, have nothing else to do and are really, really annoying.

    http://www.publicdomainpictures.net/view-image.php?image=858…

  • I noticed a stack of staff behind the counter too

  • Would we have a case with this $ale and fast finger freddy's working at DSE stores.

    http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/54217

    http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/815215

    • Enough complaints and they will look into it.

  • +4

time to go into a DS at the end of the day and ask if they have any consoles for sale just to troll them!!

  • +5

I have to say this was poor form by dick smith. This was handled poorly by management.
They might now have a 'happier' workforce but they've burnt alot of consumers along the way.

When alot of bricks and mortar stores are competing on price point and low margins, customer loyalty could be the point of difference.

    Poor effort

    • +1

not much point in having a happier workforce when half of them are getting the flick anyway

  • +5

I'm waiting for the hitler gets nothing at DSE mashups on YouTube :)

  • +3

Townsville here.. wasn't a complete waste of time, I managed to snag one pack of 1500 msp that one staff member had stashed under the keyboard. Customer service wasn't as bad as some reports here but I didn't appreciate being flat out lied to about DSE "not selling Microsoft points" when they were just hiding them from the public. The older lady who served me picked it up and got a sharp, angry glance from the other guy serving on the counter to her left.. that look said it all. The customer being served at his register tried to buy it off her when I'd clearly asked for it first. People and their attitudes, man. Not a pleasant experience, happy that my friends managed to grab the last of the G27s at sale price the previous day.

Now taking bets on how long it takes for DSE goes into receivership!

  • Waste of time. Went to midland store at 9:30, no clearance prices marked at all. Nothing left anyway.
Went to Morley, atleast they had a clearance table with a few games left. Chose a few games, took them to the counter and the guy tells me they aren't on sale, even though they were on the list and on the clearance table…..
