    • When did Big W do these cards for 15% off? Missed that it seems.

      • Nah, they’re almost likely referring to the ongoing deal at BIG W where you get 10% of an Ultimate gift card’s value back in the form of bonus Everyday Rewards points.

The reasons gift cards are not flying off the shelves at BIG W are:

        • You are not getting an upfront discount on the gift cards. You instead have to pay full price for the gift cards and then get a bonus that you have to spend on future purchases at a small number of businesses (and it cannot spend on gift cards). Experience tells me that people love upfront discounts much more than bonus Flybuys or Everyday Rewards points.

        • There is a limit of ten gift cards per Everyday Rewards member.

That deal is still appealing to some people, as there’s only five Ultimate gift cards that is part of the Coles deal, where it seems nearly all Ultimate gift cards are part of the BIG W deal, which is particularly good for folks looking for the Ultimate Students gift cards to redeem it at EB Games.

  • Buying something from Amart Furniture, is there any limits card can be used there?

  • Thinking of buying an iPhone from JB-HI-FI using these gift cards… just to confirm that I won’t have any issues buying Apple Products with these sort of gift cards?

    • +1

A lot of people have been able to use TCN or Ultimate gift cards to purchase Apple products from JB Hi-Fi. JB Hi-Fi doesn’t list Apple products as an excluded purchase for these gift cards, so you should be fine.

If you’re planning to buy an iPhone online or over-the-phone, you’ll need to convert the Ultimate gift cards into JB Hi-Fi gift cards first.

      • If you have the older EFTPOS version of the Home or Kids gift cards (which are currently being phased out, but are still sold at some Coles supermarkets), you’ll need to go into a JB Hi-Fi store and purchase JB Hi-Fi gift cards using the Home or Kids gift cards. Please note this is against JB Hi-Fi policy, as JB Hi-Fi staff were instructed by their head office late last year to stop customers from doing this. Having said that, JB Hi-Fi’s systems do not automatically stop you from doing this, so if staff don’t realise what you’re doing, you should be fine.

      • If you have the newer Visa version of the Home or Kids gift cards (which is the one pictured in this deal), you should be able to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website by directly inputting the card details into the checkout or using Apple Pay. It worked a couple of weeks ago for another OzBargainer, and I think it should still work now.

If you’re planning to buy an iPhone in-store, you should be fine.

      • There is no known limit for the number of TCN or Ultimate gift cards you can use in one transaction; another OzBargainer recently used 81 EFTPOS gift cards, so I guess the sky is the limit…

      • If you are going to use a stack of Ultimate gift cards to pay for an iPhone, I suggest you go to JB Hi-Fi at a quieter time of the day, and remove the gift cards from the cardboard packaging and scratch all the PINs before you go to the store. If you don’t do that, you’ll probably double the time you’ll spend at the checkout. Staff will be doing you a favour by letting you use a stack of Ultimate gift cards in one transaction, so at least return the favour by making the checkout process as quick as possible!

just got one an hour ago at jb, iphone 13 128gb. Went at 3pm cos i knew it'd be quiet then, no one else in line. The cashier was pretty friendly, fast, and seemed used to it.
I used an assortment of $30, 50 and 100s, about total 20 cards. Scratched them out last night, ripped them off the sticky bits holding them in (i missed some blobs and a few times the goo got stuck in the eftpos swipe machine lol - so yea recommend you pull the majority of the sticky things off beforehand)

  • +1

Bought a Bosh washing machine using the 15% discount home gift cards. Only has $1100 giftcards. So has to pay credit cards of the remaining $200. Made in germany, very quiet washing machine

    • I did too! Which model did you get?

  • +1

Hope i can get some giftcards on wednesday to buy my iphone 13

  • @WookieMonster - I understand that this gift card is available in both EFTPOS and VISA versions (with the latter being able to be used digitally).

Is the Visa version the one with cards beginning with the number 457824?

    • +1

That’s correct. FYI, the EFTPOS version starts with 502125.

  • Is it possible use coles egift cards to buy these?

  • +1

I'm almost certain this deal includes the Teens card as well if you want it for JB. I'm going to go to my local and test this first thing tomorrow.

    • +1

It includes Teens for JB. Bought some Teens and Kids card as part of this deal

  • Saw lots of $100 ultimate home at my local Coles. Given the limit of 5 per person I'm hopeful of scoring 5 tomorrow morning at 6am

    • +1

Got my 5 this morning so thanks OP. I noticed they had a lot fewer cards out this morning than they had the other night. Hopefully they have kept some aside for those who are not early early risers, power walkers or pack hunters.

  • Might have to wander into Coles again tomorrow 😞

  • +1

Has anyone had any issue with buying 5 then coming back and buying another and so on? Do staff monitor this?

    • Exactly. How are people getting 80 of them?

      • Sounds like you’re referring to this OzBargainer.

They mentioned in a different comment that they were stocking up on TCN and Ultimate gift cards across multiple gift card sales and also got friends to help them pick up stock from other stores.

They’re honestly not as mad as the OzBargainer who somehow managed to purchase $36,000 worth of Apple gift cards during the first Apple gift card deal at Woolworths. I’m not sure how that OzBargainer managed to find so many Apple gift cards during a deal where Apple gift cards were almost impossible to find at Woolworths.

I think you need a lot of luck to be able to amass a stack of those gift cards… or be very good at hiding them before the sale starts.

    • +3

It’s a classic case of YMMV, but I’ve noticed that staff at the stores near me really do care about the five gift cards per customer limit, as it is well known by now that TCN or Ultimate gift cards (or Coles Gift Mastercards) can be extremely hard to come by during these kind of sales.

If you go to a Coles supermarket where the staff recognise you, they’ll probably instantly pick up on what you’re doing (or thinking of doing). I remember during the 10% off Coles Gift Mastercard sale in June, one of the service supervisors at a store I visited first thing Wednesday morning helped me process five gift cards through the self-service checkouts. However, I went back a couple of days later to do my grocery shop (and wasn’t actually trying to buy any more gift cards), and the same service supervisor came up to me whilst I was queueing for the self-service checkouts and said “I hope you’re not buying any more of those gift cards.”

If you’re at a large enough store, there’s really nothing stopping you going through one serviced checkout with five gift cards and then returning a few minutes later to purchase another five gift cards again at a different checkout. If it is busy enough when you do this (and maybe put on a different coloured mask or something), it is doubtful anyone will pick up on what you’re doing.

The exception is if the staff are stocking all the gift cards on sale at the service desk and forcing everyone to go through the service desk. I saw that at a couple of Coles stores during the first 15% off TCN deal last year, so I guess your chances in that case of getting more than five gift cards have plummeted to almost zero. You’d have to wait until a shift change, and by the time that happens, the gift cards you want may be gone. You may also need to get friends or family to help you out at that stage…

However, if you visit multiple stores, there’s no way each store will know whether you’ve already picked up zero gift cards or 20 gift cards during a deal.

my coles guy just told me to go out and come back and buy another 5 if i wanted more. They just can't put more than 5 per transaction. lol.

Visited few Coles this evening in Melbourne & noticed ultimate home 100 are not on shelf.

    • People are hiding them before the sale possibly. I just found a stash of 100$ cards behind optus SIM cards! In Melbourne

  • -2

Can these be used on eBay? Or be used to purchase other gift cards for use on eBay?

    • No.

eBay is currently not a participating retailer for the newer Visa versions of the Ultimate gift cards, and none of the participating retailers of the Visa or EFTPOS Ultimate gift cards actually sell eBay gift cards (or prepaid Visa/MC gift cards, for that matter).

      • These are just visa cards though right? Theoretically you should be able to buy anything anywhere that accepts visa? Or am I missing something here?

When I purchased the jb gift card on their website, I filled out the details in the credit card section as I would when I would make a normal credit card purchase.

        • +2

These are Visa gift cards that only work at participating retailers.

My understanding is that when you attempt to make a payment, the EFTPOS terminal (or online payment gateway) at the merchant will contact Heritage Bank (the card issuer for the Ultimate Visa gift cards), which will check whether the merchant requesting payment is one of the participating retailers for the gift card you are using. If it is, it will allow payment to happen, but if not, it will simply decline the payment request.

  • Just came from my local and plenty of home 100 on shelf but wouldn't scan. they said there is an IT issue with the 15% discount. might be resolved by lunch time. (maybe gives them time to remove from shelf I guess LOL)

  • My local got smashed for the $100s on shelf with folk lining up to buy. No issues scanning them though.

    • -1

      Where's that

  • -1

Can anyone please help determine if this is the eftpos or visa version? The packaging and fine print (says select credit) looks like visa

However the card number is 457824 suggesting eftpos

      Visa.

I got 5 x $100 Home card, and then an Asian lady took all the remaining cards and hid them on another shelf. It's really interesting to see this happen again.

    • +5

If it was me I would’ve grabbed the cards she hid and bought them or put them back on the rightful shelf

      • Big time mate ..that’s would be the prefect thing to do and would definitely teach her a lesson ..

      • -3

I would if I can find the cards in the secret area but I can't. They are professional.

    • Don't hate the player, hate the game

"an asian lady" You wouldn't say "a white lady" would you? Do better

  • Thanks OP!
    Plenty of stock in Geelong
Just picked up 3x$100 visa home gift card.

  • +2

At coles parramatta, a guy got all of the home cards available on the rack. Literally all, and started calling his mates to come quickly. Ha ha! I read this only in forums, saw it first time.

    • +1

Top level? Was there 15 minutes ago. Must be the same guy I saw with a stack of 20+ in his hand doing circles inside the store. Shouldve followed him around endlessy. But sadly gotta go to work :/

      • +2

Oh then I saw you.. ha ha. I returned home defeated all I wanted was 5😀

        • just a cheap and greedy people

          • @ntt: I was going to ask him nicely to give me 5 or I will call store manager to honour 5 gift card pp policy, but then I thought not worth it, considering he is carrying them around for a while in his hands. Anyway!

            • +2

              @akstatic: pee on him to show domination, I meant…cmon' You're a batman

  • I guess no point going then reading all this story. Save my petrol.

    • Wow at least someone was well stocked

  • Sold out forest hill and burwood for all cards!!!

  • Office works wouldn’t price match over the phone. Said it has to be done in store, of course no stores have gift cards in stock.

  • None left at Norwest. Attendant said they sold out at 6AM…

  • +1

Went this morning to 5 (sth east melb) coles - most of them sold out before i even got there (6:30AM)!

Made out with around $1.5k in giftcards. Will go again at lunch time and update.

  • Sold out in less than an hour after opening in Brisbane CBD for the Home card.

  • Plenty left in Knox (Vic)

  • Gone at 2570

  • For the Visa one, even after we add the card to GPay or Apple Pay, I suppose we can use it on at the participating stores only?

Wondering if this visa card would work for $1 check by vendors like Spotify.

  • Can the one with Xbox credit be used on the normal Microsoft store to get office?

  • Sold out at West Ryde, Top Ryde, and Gladesville.

  • Just tried to exchange Home one with JB-hifi gift card but sadly JB is not participating in the exchange :-(

    • Wait so home cards won't work at jbhifi? Or is this trying to do something different?

      • Sounds like exchanging it for a physical JB card maybe?

      • Yes, I was trying to exchange with JB gift card so that I can spend more than the nominal online. Example: I have 2 $50 ultimate gift card (Home) and want to shop at JB online for $75. I can't enter both Ultimate gift card to pay for the order. I was thinking if I exchange one with JB gift card, I can enter the gift card number and pay the balance with the other ultimate gift card. But apparently I can't exchange to JB gift card.

        • you can only use 1 card per order online? that would suck.

          • @Frozensage: That's not about how many cards. JB stopped exchange e-gift card for both TCN and Ultimate. Left one way to use these gift card. INSTORE

            • @ce5himm: damn, means can't stack with the jb code in the other deal? that code is for online only right?

              • +1

@Frozensage: Code can be used instore according to the conditions stated on the email.

    • +1

It was possible to do that a couple of weeks ago, but my guess is that JB Hi-Fi have stopped gift card exchanges on the gift card exchange website in preparation of this deal.

Can you purchase a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website using your Ultimate Home gift card?

      • Ah … that's another way … worth a try. Thanks.

      • No way. That's not gonna work.

        • Doesn’t seem to work for me :(

          • +2

@mytangledshoelaces: If you're using 12/29 as the expiry date and it's not working, my guess is that JB Hi-Fi has probably blocked directly using Ultimate gift cards to pay digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi website. It was working two weeks ago…

The last option is adding Ultimate gift cards to Apple Pay and then using Apple Pay to pay for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website. However, considering that directly using Ultimate gift cards doesn't work, I would be very surprised if using Ultimate gift cards via Apple Pay would work.

      • +1

My gift card purchase has been processed, now waiting for it to be emailed to me.

        • +1

have you receive the order confirmation email? my order is showing payment processing, and i haven't receive order confirmation email yet. money seems be taken.

        • what number did you put in the cvv? on the website it accepts 3 digits, but the card has 4

          • +2

@dimple: Not the pin. There is a CVV next to the pin. Unless you bought the old ultimate stock.

          • +4

@dimple: The Visa version of the Ultimate gift cards have the following features:

            • QR codes on the front and the back of the card that allow you to view the participating retailers on the Ultimate gift card website.
            • A card number starting with 457824.
            • A three-digit CVV next to the four-digit PIN on the back of the card.
            • Instructions in a red box that tell you to select Credit if using the physical card in-person.

The EFTPOS version of the Ultimate gift cards have the following features:

            • Pictures of participating retailers on the front of the gift card.
            • A card number starting with 502125.
            • A four-digit PIN on the back of the card, but no CVV.
            • Instructions telling you to select Savings when using the physical card in-person.

If you have the EFTPOS version, you can only use it for in-person transactions. You cannot exchange it for a digital gift card, you cannot add it to mobile wallets and you cannot use it for any online transactions.

I have received my gift card so now progressing with the purchase.

        • +1

I can confirm that I could complete the order with combination of Gift Card and Ultimate Gift Card. Thanks again @WookieMonster.

          • @peuwayaqdq: Mine says shipped but the card didn't arrive as yet

            • @Ash-Say: The JB Hi-Fi website states it can take up to three hours for digital gift cards to be delivered.

              • +2

@WookieMonster: I guess the game is over.

Tried to purchase 2nd e-gift card and got cancelled.

Tried my partner account(different card number) and also got canceled straight away

                • +1

@Ash-Say: Keep trying. Some of my orders got cancelled, but some went through. Some went through on 2nd attempt.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Does not work for me any more. Bought 2 in the morning. I feel they are going to block it. Haven't finish the rest due to work. At least it's better than those TCN card, I can use on their website as a credit card instead of instore EFTPOS only.

      • sorry guys, why you need to buy jbhifi gift card with this ultimate gift card where you can just use that ultimate gift card to purchase stuff inside jbhifi and also that ultimate gift card has 3 years exp date. thanks

        • +4

Some people are looking to purchase items on the online JB Hi-Fi store, and JB Hi-Fi only allows you to redeem one Ultimate Visa gift card per transaction. JB Hi-Fi from time to time has online-exclusive items or online-exclusive sales.

Some people would find it a lot more convenient to shop from home rather than shopping in-person, particularly if they do not have a car for whatever reason.

Some people don’t live anywhere near a JB Hi-Fi store, but they live close to a Coles supermarket. For example:

          • Armidale (NSW) is about a 110km drive from the nearest JB Hi-Fi store in Tamworth (NSW), but Armidale has a Coles.

          • Ulverstone (TAS) is about a 120km drive from the nearest JB Hi-Fi store in Launceston (TAS), but Ulverstone has a Coles. The Bass Highway in some sections between the two places isn’t exactly a top-notch road either…

I think people living far from a JB Hi-Fi store would be happy to pay for delivery from the JB Hi-Fi online store, as it is far more convenient than burning a few hours of your day (and a lot of fuel) and hoping that the JB Hi-Fi store nearest to you has the item(s) you want in stock.

Some people may be concerned about JB Hi-Fi withdrawing from the Ultimate gift card scheme.

The terms and conditions of the Ultimate gift cards strongly imply that the list of participating retailers can be updated at any time and without warning, and a participating retailer has previously stopped accepting Ultimate gift cards; David Jones withdrew from the Ultimate gift card scheme over a year ago, and neither Ultimate gift cards nor David Jones made a song-and-dance about David Jones withdrawing until they actually withdrew.
