    Thanks OP,

Ordered set up new account click and collect 24th Subiaco Perth Store.

Odds on they will cancel but we'll see.

    Cheers

  • +3

Pick up for me is the 7th of January. I 100% don't need one but tempted to buy and could always cancel the order before then.

    • +1

      That’s my strategy
Few weeks to figure out if I actually need it

      • Exactly

I figured by today, more people will chime in about how good a deal it is.

Always have the option of cancelling, I did forget about the 3% cashback.

My delivery date is 20th, now everyone is saying January.

Boxing day may have good sales, but online it's $1,500+ with only 8gb ram.

        • +1

How do I get the 3% cashback? Thanks

          • @JaeTee: Neither cashrewards or shopback have cashback..

            • @prodnus: Thanks that's what I figured but the comment above mentioned 3% cashback. Thanks for confirming!

          • +1

            @JaeTee: Sorry, I googled and saw 3%> I didn't realise it wasn't working.

        • But OW have good return policy, it's a buy now and return if a better deal comes up

          • @annarchon: Will we get charged if we cancel the order ? And when would be the deadline for cancellation before they refuse to refund? Thank you

  • +2

Screen is 350 nits btw. Mums been looking at crappy sub $1000 laptops for a couple months now.. this things gonna blow her away! Bargain!

    • I have the flex 5 with a "crappy" 250-nit display. I find it does the job fine for productivity. It's completely fine even running not at full brightness indoors, but outside is almost unusable (I have a visual impairment which has aspects of serious astigmatism, so reduced vision to your standard decent vision). For the price and specs, it's an amazing deal.

  • My old e470 seems slow. i5 7th gen and 5yrs old.
    Upgraded to SSD sometime ago.

Will I see a significant improvement, surfing, downloading, start up etc and very light gaming - think Civ 5.

Recently purchased Age of Empires 1-3, I assume this laptop could handle?

    • +3

I posted this video further up regarding the performance of this laptop's iGPU with a 5600H. Basic day to day tasks may feel dissimilar but if you are multitasking you will certainly notice the difference. The CPU in this laptop deal would blow away your i5 7th gen easily.

      Gaming performance YouTube video

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7pl5OGpbxk

    • +2

Yes this is significantly more powerful then your 7th gen dual core chip. Its essentially more then double the power and the screen will be much better as well. If your E470 feels slow then you will definitely feel the benefits because this 6 Core chip with 16GB RAM shouldnt feel slow.

I've used 6 core 16GB RAM laptops for work and have had many browser tabs open, various networking apps open and chat/video calling at same time with no issues.

As for gaming then it will definitely outperform your E470 but its definitely not a gaming laptop. Would be good for light gaming

      • +1

I've got an even older Lenovo E450 which I upgraded to 16GB RAM and SSD and I work with Chrome and 15 tabs, Adobe reader, zoom, Word, and VPN to work all going at the same time and it has no issues at all. It does have a i7 6500U. I find that it's rarely the CPU which is the bottleneck in these laptops, more likely the RAM and hard drive, hence the significant speed boost from my upgrading it from 8GB to 16GB and adding the SSD.

  • +1

How easy to upgrade RAM and SSD on this if I want to go 32gig RAM and 1tb SSD.

    • +3

Prrtty difficult since the ram is soldered.

    • +2

SSD should fit a standard 2280 (based on other current gen Lenovo's). I cannot access the model number as I am getting a 406 error again on the officework web link, but Lenovo seem to put a half size I believe it's called an M.2 2242 SSD in with an adapter (to make it 2280 size), so simply unscrew the bottom on the case, take out their SSD and your M.2 2280 should slot in no drama. Word of advice, use a very high-grade set of screw drivers. The screw that holds the SSD is weak as crap. We have stripped 2 out of the 8 we upgraded and returned them to amazon (lazy). The screws on the case are fine.

From Lenovo's website, (I believe this is the same model), it states up to Up to 1TB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0x4 NVMe under tech specs.

Don't even think about unsoldering the ram, unless you know what you are doing and are sure the parts will fit. 16GB is pretty decent and I won't take the risk of ending up with a failed until with a voided warranty over this.

  • +1

    Cheers bought one

  • Not sure if this is worth getting for uni this year due to the size. Should I just cop an M1 air with the education discounts?

    • +3

      What's the price difference?

I see $1,849 for a M1 Air with 512GB storage and 8GB Ram, I would say this deal looks alot better.

    • I was in the same boat but went with the M1 air base model (8gb, 256gb) instead.
Pro: It blows most similarly priced laptops out of the water on performance.
Con: If you are an engineering student, you will struggle to run several software that aren't made for Mac. If this isn't a problem, I'd recommend spending the extra $300 and getting the M1 air.

PS 1.9 kg on the Lenovo doesn't sound like much, but wait till you have to walk from one end of the campus to the other carrying this in your backpack, with may be a few books, repeat for several years, and it becomes a pain in the ass very soon.

      • M1 air is 1300.-?

        • +1

          Student store

    • Unless you need any of the specs here, M1 just for the size and weight

  • Does anyone know if this is the 60 hz vs 120 hz screen edition?

    • I believe this is the 60hz QHD screen and not the 120hz version available on the Lenovo website.

  • +13

    shabaka approve

this is one of the few laptops Lenovo got right. I disassembled one, just out of curiosity, good design.

the price is awesome, solid panel included, solid performance, good components

if not gaming, what else could you want. beats Dell Latitudes in the same price bracket, and I usually recommend those. but not this year

    • Shakaba rigs everything?

      • +3

I gut laptops for living, technician

also I buy and sell them all the time (not a business, just a personal use or hobby if you like). I could do honest reviews on YouTube, as opposed to all the sponsored bullshit, but I can't be bothered recording. also one needs to have fancy lighting and gear to make reviews popular, I CBF

also, there are some honest reviews on YouTube so why bother haha

        • -1

link for your youtube video please?

          • @carlJack: I don't have any public videos or a full fledged channel

        • also one needs to have fancy lighting and gear to make reviews popular

You're not wrong, but no-bullshit reviews from a solid technical perspective would still get a cult following even with a 100% lazy, ghetto recording setup and minimal editing. You only need to pander to a broader audience if you actually want a broader audience.

          • +2

            @Shados: you underestimate my laziness

and overestimate my ability to care

I restrict my activity to this forum

when I have time that is

it's easy to type, takes seconds. while video is pain in the ass

            nah I am good

ozbargainers are the only audience I care about

    • Went to a previous thread to look for your feedback :) what do you think of the screen?

      • +3

60hz version in this model is very good. Lenovo finally caught up and I hope to see more of this trend (fantastic panels at around 1k)

120hz is slightly better, but most people won't need it or notice the difference for productivity.

I would certainly buy one for myself if I didn't get into gaming this much during lockdown. so I got a Razer Blade instead

        • Saw your in Melbourne, so understandable. Read this morning Dan just

extended the health emergency using his new powers for another month.

          • +2

@ozhunter68: Using the same powers that NSW had all this time, damn that commie Andrews!

          • +1

@ozhunter68: yeah the time I spent behind bars whoops I meant in lockdown is unreal

happy for all interstate fellow ozbargainers who weren't subjected to such ridiculous measures

me, I am still figuring out what I can and cannot do. I almost forgot what I used to do when life was normal

sucks to be me I guess

            • @shabaka: If it's any constellation, you are/were certainly not alone.

              • @ozhunter68: yeah, you're very right there mate

despite the slogan being "we're in it together" I have never felt so disconnected from others

                still do at times

the damage the virus dealt isn't comparable with the damage dealt by how it screwed with the minds of people, and I mean everyone pretty much. we now have vaxxers and antivaxxers and everyone is worried about things they don't understand, and treat people based on their limited understanding of what's going on

as if we didn't have enough issues in the society already

                but that's offtop, w/e

back on track, good laptop, good screen. business as usual. move right along folks

                nothing to see here

        • @shabaka Which Blade did you get, may I ask? How's the fan noise in desktop tasks vs gaming?

          • +1

            @Juzman: I got last gen Blade 17 Pro. 2080 super max-q, 10875H

17 has got better thermals than the 15. never tried 14 or 13 not my kind of form factor

I game plugged in only, and it's quieter than Acer nitro 5 with 3060 I had prior. also quieter than metabox with 1660ti I had before. stays cooler than both.

non-gaming unplugged is virtually silent and cool. plugged in is in general silent but spins up quietly when pushed a bit.

          • +1

            @Juzman: between 15 and 17 I would strongly recommend getting 17 if you don't mind 2.7k weight

thermals are stellar with 4 fans and vapour chamber, and since it's more of a niche product it's somewhat easier to find a good deal especially on last gen

2 extra intake fans in the battery area solve the battery overheating issue, and in general improve cooling a lot, since they increase air flow and ensure that air moves from front to back within the chassis, cooling the keyboard, battery, ssd's etc.

15 advanced also have vapour chamber cooling, but 2 fans, and I have seen quite a few issues with battery expanding over time which isn't good

oh and yes it has 2 nvme slots for easy storage expansion which is important to me - however I don't know if other 15s might have that, too. the 15s I have seen so far had just one nvme

          • +1

@Juzman: I stand corrected by the way, all 2021 base and advanced Blade 15 have an extra NVME slot for easy storage expansion

still 17 have better thermals than 15 I stand by that.

  • +2

Hmm. Had a look in paper to see what Officeworks really think you can get for $998 and it's a long way off this. Somebody is going to get a flogging. Good luck.

  • Grade 7 kid's laptop for high school sorted. Thanks OP.

  • Is it still a bargain if you can't think of a use case for it? Lol

  • +2

Thanks OP. Bought last night when I saw the post and managed to pick it up this morning.
    Great Deal!

    • Already available? That's insane.

I wonder why everyone else has long waits.

  • The deals legit then…no dramas at checkout?

    • +1

The poster above already picked his up.

I had no issues with check out, I don't mind the wait as I have to clear out my old laptop.

    • +1

no issues at checkout. it wasnt ready (at 8.15am) but they just went out the back and got it. think it was the only one they had in-store as i noticed the pickup window changed to dec31st after i purchased last night. figured i would get in early to avoid any cancellation issues once head office wakes up!

      • +1

Well done. Enjoy your new toy

  • +2

2kgs, 16" display, non touch display.
Decent screen, top spec proccy, 16gb ram. Tempting.

  • Possible to pay with gift card?

    • Ask them to refund and pay again when pick up. Gc not available online

  • I've just purchased the Lenovo 3i gaming about a month ago with 16gb ram. How does this compare with the pro? https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lenovo-ideapad-3i-15-6-fu…

    • Other than the 1650ti your deal, unfortunately the rest of the specs in your laptop are inferior to this deal.

      • Thanks for the quick reply shellshock. Brilliant work here

    • Was it on sale less than the now $1299 price?

      • I grabbed it FB marketplace for $700. The seller purchased it off JB for that $1299 price.

        • Bargain! You can make some bonus $ if you get in quick before Christmas.

          • @ozhunter68: I know but not sure if I can be bothered going through the whole buying this deal and having to sell Lenovo 3i gaming laptop.

            • @avra06: Both great laptops. Settle on one, use it and enjoy.

              • +1

@ozhunter68: Yeah they are. Might keep my current one as I got a bargain and it does what I need it to, including some light gaming.

  • This or the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Carbon? Does the VFM vs Specs drop off at some point?

    • +1

If you want light weight 1kg, portability, better 8 core CPU and OLED screen get the carbon.

    • +2

      $800 difference

  • +7

Do I need a laptop? No. Did I buy one? Yes

    • +1

That's the way, buy first, ask questions later

    • +1

Same here, i woke up check Ozbargain then bought lol. Thank OP.

  • It is 15.6" ? Or 16" ?

    • In the Specifications it says 16".

      • Officeworks description states:

        15.6" QHD anti-glare display with 2560 x 1600 resolution.

        • Check the Specifications tab.

  • I am so tempted but there is legitimately nothing wrong with my current one lol

    • +1

      BNTL buy now think later

      • It's due for C&C on the 24th so just a self gifted Christmas present right :)

        • +1

Hahaha…most of them gang here will have self gifted lappy for Xmas ..

      • BNPL, but now ponder later.

  • +1

Thanks OP just ordered one. Well, guess I now have a brand new HP Envy x360 from this deal to sell…

    • Which one you reckon is better, mate?

      • The x360 is really nice but I think I need a bit more screen real estate. Numpad on this one is a plus too for my work.

  • RIP, my order for this with the 120hz screen (why not for $100 extra) just shipped…

Paid $1200 from the edu store, so I guess it was a $200 upgrade for the screen now

    • +1

Is great price , wish this deal has 120hz display

    • +2

$200 for screen upgrade is ok

  • +1

Isn't this similar price to the Lenovo edu store with EDUCOMM discount code? I suppose it's easier purchasing through Officeworks.

    • How much is it exactly from edu store for same spec? 16GB

      • It's $1137 after applying the code. I believe you can get cashback as well judging by past comments. Also, might be able to get lower by asking for bargain through live chat (again, judging by previous comments).

I actually haven't purchased anything through Lenovo before so just going by what I've read.

This deal is tempting but don't think you need to FOMO if you're not 100% sure, as it seems you can get similar price through Lenovon edu. They always seem to have some sort of sale on.

        • Normal store it's $1500-1600 excluding the ram upgrade.

          It's $1137 with 16gb?

There's absolutely no cashback, it's clear in the t&c. I think people will be disappointed when it gets rejected at the end.

        • Also buying from edu you can upgrade the screen and CPU to 5800U for extra $200

          • @congo: So now you're paying $337 more, basically 33% more

It's not just an extra $200, it's 20% of the total value of the laptop.

            • @[Deactivated]: The 120Hz screen isn't needed for this non gaming laptop.
But the CPU upgrade would be worth the extra $237? Its a borderline call!
