And then $79 for 50/20 lol

    • Swap ISP after the free month. There is no contract.

      • But if you do that then you might have no internet while the change over happens. In the past I've gone weeks without NBN by changing companies here in Darwin. We only have one exchange.

        • +3

There shouldn't be any downtime unless there is a fault.

          • @Twix: I canned my NBN a few months ago and switch to Felix mobile on that unlimited data plan. The NBN speeds are so up and down here and lots of drop outs. I'm about 22km from the exchange.

            • @koplik8: That sucks. Are you in any of these locations?

Alice Springs, Araluen, Braitling, Ciccone, Desert Springs, East Side, Gillen, Ilpara, Larapinta, Ross, Sadadeen, The Gap.

              • @Twix: I'm in Palmerston. It's about a 30 minute drive from Darwin City. Those places are in Alice Springs. Why do you ask?

                • @koplik8: nbn are upgrading those NT locations to FTTP.

                  • +1

@Twix: Yeah I got a text saying they were doing upgrade in my area recently

            • @koplik8: Good to know.

            • @koplik8:

I'm about 22km from the exchange

              Oof, sorry to hear that.

        • +1

But if you do that then you might have no internet while the change over happens.

Most ISPs use remote activation to churn you over. Make sure you schedule the churn to happen one day before your current promotion ends.

For example, when Superloop took over from Belong, I had no idea when it happened until I got the text message from them saying they were my new ISP. Almost zero downtime.

          EDIT: On NBN HFC.

    • One has to pay to keep CSR jobs local..

      can't have it both ways.

    • Thanks for the pro-tip, just saved $79

  • Is it still 30 days notification?

    • Last time I did it in Oct-21 there was no 30 days

    • Nah 30 days is for TPG. Ask Aussie BB for a pro rata refund if you stay longer than 1 month.

My Swoop 2 month free started on 2nd December.

This will be perfect for me since this promo last day is 31st January

    • Three months free internet. Nice one Homr.

      • I've cancelled swoop as of the end of this month as well. The signup process and delay, and the outright BS from customer service left a bad taste in my mouth.

  • How does trial work? As in, how does one return the modem which I assume they will send? If by return post then is the process similar to that followed by Amazon and return post paid by them?

      BYO modem

      • What modem do you recommend? Do you also have gigaplan? Cheers

        • Im on FTTP so I only needed a router

I use Netgear Nighthawk Pro XR1000

Last day special at Scorptec today

          https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/networking/modems-&-rout…

or price match at JB or Officeworks

          • @Homr: Thanks for the reply. Will check it out. Im on HFC NBN, so hoping my arris modem is all I need (then my current google mesh router)

            • @Jay-rad: and yes im on gigabit plan

1 month free internet with no contract. Nah the NetComm modem or Google Nest Wi-Fi is paid for upfront or you can bring your own.

A switch from Origin regarded as a new customer?

    • I don't know. Put in your address and coupon code online and see if it accepts.

as long as you have been away for 6 months

  • Hello. Can anyone advise. If I have an existing Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2. Will this work with ABB? And do they send in someone to connect it for you?

Sorry for the noob q's as am new to nbn tech. Cheers!

    • Telstra modem is compatible with Aussie BB and it auto connects. nbn might come out to complete the install.

      • Cheers bud!

  • I don’t 1000/50 plan but 600/50?

    • +1

nbn Home Ultrafast has a top speed of 1000/50. All ISPs have to advertise an average and 600Mbps is Aussie BB's average from 7pm to 11pm.

      • +1

Thx mate. I am on the “1000/50” HCF, and never passed the 660Mbps mark. I think my router (ax3600) is capable to deliver more than 1Gbps. So that 1000/50 is overstated to me, not sure about others.

        • +2

HFC is a temperamental beast. Sometimes it will burst up to around 940Mbps. At least your not stuck on 25Mbps like some folks on FTTN.

          • @Twix: Do you work for an ISP?
            You are crazy knowledgeable. Nw

            • +2

@BanannaMan: Thanks. Nah I never worked for an ISP or nbn. I have followed the nbn rollout since the early days and I'm always on the lookout for discounted ISP deals.

        • +1

I had 1000/50, peak times it would be between 600-800Mbps and off peak averaged around 800-940Mbps with a low single digit ping always.

          • @CrustyV: Cheers mate for the user insights. What router do you use? Via cable or wireless?

            • @AussieGargain: Netgear RAX20 AX1800 , using cat6 cable. Wireless speeds on my ipadpro it used to be around 550Mbps.

  • Just signed up and switched over from 2 month free swoop internet

Apparently FTTP only allows 1x 1000/50 connection, so Aussie broadband service had to take over my current 1000/50 swoop in Port 2. Downtime was 20mins during the process.

    • nbn only allow one Gigabit connection per premises. Speeds on FTTP can go much higher.

  • Where will everyone be switching to after their 1 month free ends?

Aussie Broadband speeds have been great so far. Ping is 2ms compared to 12ms when I was with Swoop Internet but $99 for 100/20 is a bit too much. My budget is around $79.95 for 100/20

My other alternative is go back to superloop for $69.95 100/20 if I can get it but I'm not sure being away for 3 months only will make me a "new customer"

    • Mate is in your price range.

      • Yes I had good experience with superloop, but do you think I can get the $69.95 100/20 plan? I stopped using them at the end of November. Will I be a "new customer"

        • +1

New Superloop customer is now 12 months. Some OzBargainers have had success with the Superloop promo by using a different username.

          • +1

@Twix: I might try that, or hope that another 1 month free promo comes up haha

  • +1
