Probably a real narrow target market for this on here as you need a air line to run it

  • bought one, thanks op.

  • Thanks op

  • Always wanted one, thanks OP

  • I’ve been looking for a reasonable one, this one is a stubby one for small places, so likely not much torque. Worth reading the reviews if you are considering. Good find none the less anyway. Thanks OP.

  • For 12 bucks good to have.. ordered

  • +1

Bought one to plug in at the servo

    • And do what?

      • +9

        Stuff.

      • +3

        Rotate your tyres.

        • +5

I rotate my tyres every time I take the car out, and I don't require an impact w(r)ench.

  • Thanks.

  • +1

I will buy it but I don't have a compressor.
Looks like the same one here for $83
    https://www.sparesbox.com.au/part/mechpro-blue-1-2in-drive-s…

    • What are you going to do with it? Use it as a paper weight?

      • +11

It's only $12 so I'll probably keep it in the glovebox for self defence

        • +2

Useful if someone's a hard nut to crack.

  • +1

Thank OP! For $12 you can't go wrong.

  • I got new tyres and the shop tightened my wheel nuts so tight that when I got a flat tyre I couldn't change it. so I bought an impact wrench. Its been useful to a couple of neighbors with the likes of ruste-on wheel nuts on boat trailers. And it is easier than using a wheel brace. But, well, I bought an electric one that ran off the car battery. A 12V electric one seemed to make a lot more sense than buying a probably more powerful pneumatic one that required access to or purchase of an air compressor. That wouldn't have been a bargain.

    • +2

I usually place the car's wheel nut wrench somewhat horizontal and then stand on the end and just gently oscillate up and down (in a jumping motion) to get the nuts off. Works a treat

      • Standing on the end of the wheel nut wrench wasn't enough. That's how tight they were..

        • +14

          Damn. More KFC deals then…

      • +4

gently oscillate up and down (in a jumping motion) to get the nuts off.

Can confirm that gentle oscillation also works for my nuts.

Worth keeping a super long breaker bar in the boot for times like this.

      • I keep the electric rattle gun in the boot.

        • +1

Low tech breaker bar will not fail when you need it

        • its not good to keep lipo/li ion batteries in a hot car they can swell and fail

        • +1

75cm breaker will give you more leverage/torque. Wife was victim of a tyre shop tightening nuts and a subsequent flat. All of the passers by that tried to assist her with their electric and battery torque wrenches failed and one even fried his. Wheel cross brace with a pole extension broke the weld on the brace.

This thing saved the day. https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/toolpro-toolpro-breaker-…

Go back and tell them “what have you done to deez nuts”?

    • After anyone else touches my wheels I loosen and retighten the nuts with a torque wrench. The recommended torque for wheel bolts is way less than what an impact wrench puts out. Torquing them evenly will also minimise uneven pressure on the disc which can cause uneven wear. This is why I started doing this ages ago as the car I had at the time had an integrated disc that couldn't be replaced without dismantling the hub and got terribly warped after a wheel change.

      • Good idea. I checked my wheel nuts once after a shop replaced all four tyres. Found out they stripped one of the threads on a wheel hub meaning the nut wouldn't come off. Took it back to the shop asap. First thing they asked: "why did you try to take the wheels off". I said: "because of this very reason". They then spent the next 40 mins trying to spin it off with a rattle gun which obviously did nothing. They had to pay to have the thread cut off and replaced.

    • I use galvanised pipe.

  • I just ordered one, but I'm worried about these reviews. One gave the thing 5 stars but said "As soon as you pick it up it is clearly obvious it will not undo wheel nuts." Then there are a couple more stating it's not effective on wheels?
So does that mean it's not for wheel nuts?

    • From NZ Repco site:
      Specifications:
      Square Drive: 13mm (1/2in)
      Free Speed: 9,000 rpm
      Max. Torque: 610 Nm (450 ft/lb)
      Av. Air Consumption: 155 L/min (5.5 CFM)
Operating Air Pressure: 6.3 bar (90 PSI)
      Air Inlet Size: G 1/4in
      Air Hose I.D.: 9.5mm (3/8in)

Not that I believe it'll reach theoretical specs (they sound too good to me), but it should have plenty of torque to undo a wheel nut tightened a sane amount.
Ordered one myself to play with.

    • you may need an air tank for wheel nuts.

    • I love those reviews talking about wheel nuts. When you are talking about a $12 dollar tool and an air compressor, you're likely to have all sorts of um… tools having a go at things they really don't have much of an idea about.

There are people saying it won't loosen wheel nuts - the real question is = how tight were the wheel nuts??? Some garages over torque wheel nuts to the nth degree. Some people lean on them with pipes. You just don't know who the clown was that tightened them before you.

  • Thanks OP! Found some specs for the tool:

    Square Drive: 13mm (1/2")
    Free Speed: 9,000 rpm
    Max. Torque: 610 Nm (450 ft/lb)
    Av. Air Consumption: 155 L/min (5.5 CFM)
Operating Air Pressure: 6.3 bar (90 PSI)
    Air Inlet Size: G 1/4"
    Air Hose I.D.: 9.5mm (3/8")

I have an Aldi Workzone Portable Air Compressor which on paper meets those specs (180L/min, 8 bar max) but we'll have to see how well they pair.

EDIT: @grb beat me to it!

    • Good work to OP and all. Should be useful for light duty stuff if you have a small 2.5HP compressor or better…. but I'll I'll bet my left nut that it won't get anywhere remotely near the quoted 450 ft/lbs needed to crack my right nut! ahem

  • If it even achieved half the stated torque it would beat most of the mid range 1/2" battery wrenches which are typically around 2-300nm

  • Surely needs further attachments to loosen wheel nuts right? Or does it's come with them too (at this price)?
    Any recommendations for cheap attachments?

  • I've got an old chinese 240V impact wrench that weighs about 3 Kg, and regenerates the ozone layer whenever it's turned on…. and also a ryobi 18V impact driver.
Neither of these have got much oomph. One of the main things holding back air wrenches is compressor air supply. If you have a monster air compressor (particularly a giant air tank) then they can potentially do pretty tough stuff.I once had 2 of the direct drive 2.5HP compressors hooked up in parallel, but they couldn't supply enough air when I had a very tough screw welsh plug I was trying to remove (an electric block heater screw in location on an old jag). The trick with the specs seems to be when they quote FAD air production of so many litres/minute…. it doesn't match the "operating air pressure" so after a few seconds then the original 90PSI has plummeted to a fizzzzz.

  • I was told i can only use this on a air compressor, is their any reason i couldn't use it on my car, removing wheel nuts for example?

    • +3

I was told i can only use this on a air compressor

Just to be absolutely clear, this thing needs an air compressor in order to work. If you don't have an air compressor sitting around then you have your answer.

  • +1

Guys you need to leave your nuts alone.

    • Need to check they work regularly
      And not lumpy
      .

  • +4

Another fomo midnight purchase that I'll probably never use. At least I actually have a compressor unlike a few others here lol

  • Thanks for the deal! Just ordered one for Click n Collect. Not at my local store so I think they're shipping it there. I'm currently using an Impact Driver with a 1/2inch adapter, but this may come in handy, especially as it's only $12.

  • Thanks OP!! Home mechanic. Got one :)

  • Thanks OP. It'll be very handy for small jobs.

  • just Bought one too $12 can’t go wrong

I just had my order cancelled by Repco shortly after ordering, no phone call or email explanation. In Brisbane. Anyone else?

    • +1

I bought last night around 8pm, also refunded.

Just got the call and refunded.

    Clearance item, no stock available.

      ditto. (SA here)

      • In SA as well. Just got the confirmation email. Waiting for the call :)

  • Still available in regional Vic. I checked 6 different branches online within 100km of me and they all had stock available for pickup.

  • I'm QLD Gold coast My order has not been cancelled yet

How many Ugga Duggas is this capable of?

How many Ugga Duggas is this capable of?

      Just one Ugga Dugga.

(Using the chica chacs conversion formula: 1 Ugga Dugga = 610 Newton meters)

  • I just got the call back after ordering yesterday at 8am saying it was a website error and they don't have the stock. :(

  • Yeah i got a ready to pick up email yesterday and a refund email today. Annoying

  • Got phone call said it was no stock & refund. Btw when you click the link the price now $89. What a waste of time

  • Picked up mine yesterday, seems pretty solid for the price.

I'll fire up the compressor on the weekend and have a play.

  • I just got refunded ☹️ Good to see some people got it

  • Hadn't heard anything after purchasing it on Tuesday 4/1. Rang the store today - no stock anywhere in the country. Refund processed.

  • +1

Haven't heard from them. Not sure if I should open the Schrödinger's cat box

    • Well I sat tight (completely forgot about this) and they sent me a message today saying it's ready for pickup and I went and grabbed it 😂

      • wow Im still awaiting. sent a email to online email account.. no response yet.

  • Ordered Jan 4, called Jan 8 they had to get it in. No call/email so I called today Jan 13th, doesn't look good. May have one in another State, waiting on call back, but at the moment, it looks like it will be a cancelled order.

  • Bought on the 3rd of Jan, just got a call saying they have to cancel the order cause they couldn't find one.

I think my store probably just dropped the ball putting in the order since others seem to be getting it after I ordered mine.

  • I'm still waiting for mine, from Jan 3rd. I guess I should contact them and request a refund. Pretty lousy service.

  • 17th of January, email received, order refunded.
5 days ago the local shop said they were waiting for the stock to come in.

Just checked.. shows in stock at local store. $89.

    • The one they have listed for $89 is the fat/full sized version.

  • Finally got the email this morning telling me it was ready to collect.

It feels fairly solid and decently made, but I doubt the advertised specs. I couldn't get wheel nuts off with it. Switched to a cheapy Ozito from Bunnings and it undid them in about half a second.

  • Got mine today. They said their system showed it was the last in Australia, though I'm not sure if they ordered more in. This thing is tiny.

    • damn I shouldnt have emailed them. they said no more in Australia and refunded me.

      • They had to double check. I was told another State had one, then they didn't. I called to cancel, and they double checked again and the State said they had one, so got it delivered. I think I got lucky with my local Repco staff. They were pretty nice and helpful.
