Has price gone up by 95c?

    • +1

No. I’m pretty sure EB Games have been charging $749.95 the whole time. They were in August 2021 at least. It launched at that price while most other retailers dropped their price to $749.

      • +3

        Disgusting scalpers! How dare they

  • +7

    Out of stock already…? Lol

Xbox Series X lasted for like 2-3 hours. I give up and will just use my Series X until the PS5 Slim is out and by then PS5 games will be a lot cheaper too

    • +42

Do what the rest of us are doing and just wait for the PS6.

    • +1

Why would they release a slim when they can sell these as fast as they can make them?

      • +12

Because making a slim model means more components are put on a single board and therefore reducing manufacturing costs.

        • +13

Also the PS5 is positively huge, a smaller version would be nice to have.

          • +1

@AustriaBargain: Yeah a smaller version would be better for sure.

          • @AustriaBargain: The size was definitely one of the dealbreakers for me. I have limited space and knowing that every generation has put out a smaller version has made me comfortable with waiting.

        • +5

I think the cycle that we were used to has been disrupted and we won't be getting a slim pro revision as quickly as we used to, they haven't been able to supply enough gen 1 PS5… I suppose we will have to wait and see, in which case I'd be holding out for a pro version.

          • @Spendmore: They could make the slim from fewer components, that will help their profits and get more units in the hands of customers.

      • +1

Slim versions are slim because they use a smaller manufacturing node… reducing heat/power draw and in turn requiring less cooling and can be made into a smaller design
saving SONY money that they can pocket or pass on to the consumer with a cheaper price.

The PS3 was slimmed down 2 times with the last one cutting the auto bluray disk loader for a pop open slide tray that was horrid and cheap looking but prices were reflected on store shelves.

        • +3

          I have a ps3 slim and didn't even know there's a slide tray version.

Also depends on if they want to spend money on development though.

          • +2

@JL1: I remember seeing the slide tray version for like $199 it was competing with the 4GB Xbox 360 that also sold for around that price…
OH the good old days lol

i think it was called the PlayStation 3 Super Slim

            • @vid_ghost: Lol yes the good old days, when items were normal and not everything got scalped crazy. Things went on discount, etc. I bought a ps4 pro before covid and it's even more expensive now.

I bought my ps3 slim and never looked again. Ah super slim, so it was even thinner? That was it?

        • They have no incentive to pass it on to the consumer, they can't sell their current model fast enough.
If the design cost can be recouped by the increased profit margin then yeah we might see one but they usually do this to reboot a slow down in sales which they don't have to worry about now.

          • @Spendmore: Sony reducing their cost of manufacturing is the incentive to make a slim version…. yes the price would stay the same if the demand stayed the same.

          • @Spendmore:

They have no incentive to pass it on to the consumer,

They do, more PS5s then more people will buy software/games.

  • +1

    Really? OOS in 7 mins?

    • +5

No, not really. It was more like 4 minutes.

      • +2

        4 mins is slow too…

        • +12

4 mins is ages. Used to be seconds in the past. Hopefully means demand is slowing and scalping muppets can go jump in a hole.

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: Last drop before this didn't even have stock for many cities and lasted like 1 minute so I think it comes down to supply.

EB drops seem to last the longest and their last drop lasted 30 minutes. Sales guy told me they have the most allocation.

But resell prices have definitely dropped a few hundred.

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: The price on FB is $800, I dont think the scalpers are making lot of money now.

            • @BuyOrNot: Where u getting that from?..zzzZzzz. Why would cex games offer $875 and others more for trade in then. Gumtree/marketplace is still like $950-1100

    • +4

It's probably the longest the PS5 has been in stock at a major retailer, period.

      • +3

The last EB pre-order lasted like 2 hours iirc.

        • I think that was for the Xbox?

          • +4

@miarn: No, it was PS5. I grabbed one for myself back then in December.

            • @dinhhuynh: Ah nice, didn't know about that one. Did your pre-order arrive when they said it would?

            • @dinhhuynh: I got one too, just before Christmas right? I think about 30 minutes though.

        • I got 1 in that last EB pre-order in December. Was a great Christmas present for my buddy.

        • The first preorder lasted almost all day, but EB took like 7 months to fulfil the orders from later in the day.

        • That's because it was in store?

    • That’s a long time already. I can enter all personal and credit cards info manually and still get an order.

  • Less than 10 mins, lol. Damn.

  • +2

    And it’s gone…😆

  • +10

    Limit of 0.0000025 per customer.

    • +3

Anyone want split for one? Only need to find 399,999 more people.

      • +2

Your number is more realistic, I won't lie.

    • +2

Most people were waiting for games, if not exclusives then at least titles with a PS5 version “upgrade”.

Verrrrry cool that you got one last year.

      I’m a PS3 holdout so a PS5 is a worthwhile upgrade.

      • -3

there are many exclusives this year for ps5. I get that. I sold my ps4 pro but kept my ps3 since I still have alot of games I haven't completed lol. But PS5 is definatlly worth it.

        • +6

          alot

          definatlly

Might be worth putting the PlayStation controller down for a while and picking up a book.

          • -5

@boisterous bill: if I was in the stone age I would pickup a book, but this is the 21st century we use kindle or tablets like ipads for reading.

            • +5

@kungfuman: And the thing you would be reading if you followed the above sage advice would still be called a “book”.

  • By the time I entered and confirmed details the stock disappeared.

  • `^ Aren't I allowed to watch SB 1/2 time show : (

  • out of stock already? goddamn

  • Are people still onselling these for $$?

    • yeh, i think theyre still scalping at 200-300+ over retail.

      • Not quite. But some I guess. I had a quick look on FB Marketplace and there are multiple listings at ~$750, ~$850 or ~$950.

        • Ah it was still over $1k before Christmas, guess people willing to pay scalper prices already paid them

        • Are you sure those aren't scams?

I just had a quick look and on the first page I saw four $750 listings posted by different accounts, at different locations, all using the same photos.

All those accounts had also been dormant with no activity for 1-2 years until they suddenly came back to list these PS5's for $750.

          • @HomeAlone: Oh they could definitely scams, I didn’t think of that. I was unsure why someone would sell it at RRP.

          • @HomeAlone: I tried contacting the scammer but they dont reply back :(

Just wanted to waste their time.

          • @HomeAlone: Yeah most likely scams, I think it will still be around $1000

        • A lot of them are also scams.

    • +1

I managed to get a relatively new PS5 for $800 second hand in time for Christmas. I realise I paid a $50 premium for a second hand console, but I was sick of waiting. Looking back now, it was totally worth it, have put so many hours in to it.

  • +12

If you're serious about getting a PS5 don't rely on ozbargain. Twitter is where it's at. By the time it gets posted to ozbargain you've lost precious time.

    • +3

My wife scored one from this drop, via Twitter accounts. Been trying (on and off) for a few months. Nice to get it at the same time as Horizon.

      • +1

i saw your cry for joy on twitter.

    • +2

Yeah most drops don't even make it here before being sold out. And when it's on front-page will be gone

    • +1

Or just get your name on a list at a local store. took me 3 weeks to get a series X.

    • +3

I wouldn't even do that. Just put your name down on your closest retailer's list. I put my name down at JB and had it within 4 weeks.

    • +1

I got my PS5 from EB in WA last year. Put $200 deposit and waited 3 months. Worth it. 😃

  • Managed to get one - apparently it’ll be ready on the 18th.

I got a notification from Twitter - surprised I was successful in ordering.

  • Annnnnd its gone lol

  • who keeps buying them out of existence?? surely the prices of flipped PS5 aren't worth it by now? there aren't even too many decent ps5 games out there >:(

    • Disc edition is going for around $1k on eBay, so yeah, still worth it :(

      • +1

Are they completed listings? The market has softened on FB Marketplace.

        • For genuine ones, yeah I think so. I did a quick look on eBay the other day and plenty of people there were doing really dodgy stuff like listing a "PS5 disc edition" for $750, but the description says it's a digital and photos are hard to see if it's disc or digital… hoping to pull one over a desperate buyer I guess :(

      • I’m just astonished people pay it.

I have been waiting, happily. Now I am getting one for $750. People buying off scalpers are the worst.

        • +1

In some sense it's no different than buying a new game/PC part/console at launch - the price will always come down, but if by paying a bit more you can get it now then a lot of people will do that.

        • Me too. I'd rather wait than pay a scalper.

    • I have quite a few games (Borderlands 3, Horizon and God of War) that had not been played on PS4 just sitting there. Got a PS5 to play in 4k 60.

  • +7

Retailers really need to do what valve did for the steamdeck and only allow purchases from signed in accounts with a previous completed purchase. Or at least anything similar to make it difficult for bots.

    • +8

If they're sold out instantly anyway, do retailers need to care? It's not really their problem and sounds like a bunch of extra technical work for 1 product.
Would make sense for Sony themselves to have a system like that though (do they already?)

      • It’s absolutely in the interests of retailers and Sony. Less people using sold PS5s means less people buying and playing games. Scalpers aren’t just pests for us. Only eBay benefits by not changing the status quo

        • People are still using those PS5s, it's not like the scalpers are holding onto PS5s for ages. It just adds an extra step: Retailer > Scalper > User instead of Retailer > User.

So there's no real difference to either Sony or the retailer, they're still selling all they can make/buy and those consoles are still ending up in users' hands. At worst people might get angry with Sony, but I'm sure Sony is enjoying the publicity and hype from the limited supply.

          • @miarn: Retailers can bundle the products and sell them in store so they make more money instead of selling just the console online.

  • I know that all the OzStockBargain comments and negs are gonna roll in but just keep in mind that while these posts may not fit in here with OzBargains regular deals that have actual discounts, these posts are very helpful and valuable to many still looking for PS5 stock, which is ridiculous almost 1.5 years later but that's the world we live in.

Best way to score one is to go into any jbhifi like I did and ask to be put in the ps5 register. The deposit I was asked to put down was for the whole price, others stores have asked for a certain percentage.

Got a call when the new allocation arrived at the store and went in to pick it up. Didn’t have to stress out anymore with the twitter and discord notification drops that I kept missing out on.

    Great machine. Good luck.

    • I tried at a jb hifi that I purchased a TV and player from and they said they are full until March and won't accept new people on their list.

But for people who can this is probably the least stressful option

    • I did this at my local JB HiFi, but they mentioned no deposit needed as it was more of a waiting list rather than a pre-order.
I'm in no rush for one but it's nice to know they'll reach out when it is available next.

EB Games customer service confirmed to me that you can use gift cards.

        Hi there,

        Thanks for contacting us.

Yes you can use a gift card to pay off remaining money owing on a pre-order.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

        Kind Regards,

        • Nice to know.

My concern now is that I will buy a $500 gift card, and then discover that my preorder has fallen through for some reason, and I'll get a preorder refund, and be stuck with a $500 gift card.

          • +1

@brockhenry: Same, although they don't expire and I figure I'll probably spend that money at EB at some point.

I got mine through Macquarie and it arrived instantly (you get it online, not via email) so you could even do it in-store if you wanted.

            • @miarn: I also plan to get mine through Macquarie, so your info is definitely helpful. I will do it in store, as you suggest.

              Cheers

          • +1

@brockhenry: Be careful, my order just got cancelled…

            • @cook99: I will be so pissed if mine gets cancelled. Got a new TV and Horizon game coming too.
