PS: Although the deal technically starts on the 30th, some Australia Post outlets seem to be honouring the deal now.

PPS: Looks like the link has been photoshopped out of the Australia Post official catalogue. And the link has been removed from Lasoo. I've updated the link to the catalogue. It is on the bottom of page 5 of the catalogue.

    • May I know where is your local PO?

    • can u please post a copy of ur receipt?
      thinking of getting it tomorrow

  • I can only get 3 x $100, and I am going to try to get more next week. But in case I could not find any, does anyone here want to buy the $300 from me?

    • I might very well be interested in your $300 as I left some at the post office when I bought mine as I wanted to "share the love" however after heading down to the local GG I am leaning towards getting a real expensive tv and am now wishing I had just got more cards. Anyway long and short is I will be about $1000 short but am going to check the post office again on Monday however if you don't want yours anymore I will be first dibbs!

      • how do you pm here?…or isn't it possible?

        • leiiv would need to tick "Allow private messages" in Profile as well as yourself

        • I am pretty sure I ticked that option long time ago, but after I checked it again today, it is not enabled. There must have been some changes to the system back then.
Anyway, try to use this page http://www.ozbargain.com.au/privatemsg/new and type my user name there.

TGG Auburn NSW now asks how you pay and doesn't do price match if you're paying with gift cards.

I'll never shop at TGG Auburn again.

PLEASE YOU ALSO TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.

    • Auburn store seems to be the culprit in not enabling customers to negotiate price when it comes to purchasing with gift cards

    • Told you some tgg stores could go sour when knowing so many gifts cards waiting to be redeemed within the next 12 months. You can try to lodge a complaint through website and they will get warning and contact you to arrange another deal. That is ofcos if you have plenty of time and nothing better to do. I tried this on bob janes t mart. It worked well and I got my money back.

    • I had no problems yesterday at Auburn.
(price beat online price of a Dyson DC39 Allergy)

      • I think may be he wants to buy iPad but I cannot understand why because discounted gift cards nothing to do with them.

Try Prospect I have no problem price matched and they even reserve one for my friend and no deposit was needed.

        • Not an iPad. It was a fridge.

I didn't mention the sales person about the gift cards I had when he asked how I'm going to pay but Indian girls working at the checkout had been strictly told not to process gift cards for discounted/price matched items so they dobbed me in.

        • Those same girls processed my order just yesterday afternoon. Actually very nice, 4 of my cards didn't swipe so she called up and processed them manually.

        • yeh prospect is good
reserved one over the phone last thursday without a deposit and went in to buy a 32gb wifi today with no problems at all
price matched big w's $628 as well

    • Maybe it was the sales person. Got my new iPad there last Monday price match with big w. didn't mentioned I had a gift card until I paid for it. No problem for me luckily.

    • +2

my store tuggeranong would price match with any other retailer when I asked becasue 'they wont have any stock'
I told him that the guy on the hold music says that they do indeed price match to an 'advertised price'.

anyway was lucky to find a place that had stock of an ipod and when another sales guy got the ipad from out the back for me to buy he told the sales girl to take $10 off without any prompting from me. wth?

good guys are a truly an odd organisation, only last week I asked them for a dyson dc23 to be priced below $400 and they said 'impossible' yet this week are selling them for below 400. so I bought from amazon.de for $301.

farewell to aussie retail I say!

  • All I want is $450 worth so I can buy a new camera…and I'm stuck at work not able to search around for them :|

    • +1

Your going to get the s**t negged out of you for trying to make $18.
I don't know whether to give you a + for being a true Ozbargainer or a - for being an opportunistic pr*ck?

      • +1

Well he may have driven a long way to purchase his cards. If that's the case then it's fair enough to factor this into the sale price.

    • +6

Really. Cost me about 20 dollrs worth petrol to get them. Any way just to clarify we were going to get the 1900 Asko washing machine. Ended up with the 1600 one with the 200 rebate from Asko got it cheaper and have about 600 value. Ok in true Ozbargainer spirit any want em get it for cost price.

EDIT: 100 dollar card for 80 same as Aus post.

    • +2

I may be interested in buying yours if I could not find more next week, and I think $20 extra for petrol is fair enough.

      • +1

Thanks. But as stated I am willing to sell it for the actual sale price of 80 per card. I need to recoup the money as wife bought herself a Mother's day gift in liu of my 6 month old son who she says wanted to give her the gift, but couldnt decide himself. So a bit over extended in the finance buffer.
        Cheers

        • Id be happy to buy $500 worth (as in pay $400)

Read it and weep ppl. Its from a MOD
ozpete 7 hours 24 min ago new

If everyone speaks their own language then how do we know what they are saying.

      People think this is censorship.

WE NEVER said dont make a comment. Just its how you use the tools on this site. Dont confuse negative Comments with Negative Votes. Even Alice understands that (wink)

The negative VOTE is a tool. To you its a popularity tool, but it wasn't ever set up that way. Its and editing tool, and as such it has some use.

When there are a number of negative votes then a deal is generally hidden from view. It was designed in a powerful way to be a user moderation tool, which is a hell of a lot more powerful than just a voting tool. Unfortunately many dont read the rules of the game, they just think its their rules or no rules. sigh!

And GUESS WHAT that also means your comments for/against are also HIDDEN so you are voting out your wisdom.

People are smart enough to make their own decisions, if they have a chance to read the opinions posted. Using the negative vote doesnt given them that option

As such thats why we say use it carefully.

This is NOT Police tactics, its NOT censorship, it in essence gives voice to your dissenting opinion. and BTW its just an opinion, its not fact etc, as some people obviously do prefer another internet provider and not all need unlimited download capacity.

And just to clarify something here, the vote (not the comment) has been retracted. No, NOT by a MOD, but by the community. You see if the community gives a negative voter more than 5 negatives, then this removes the negative. So a moderator hasn't imposed their will here. Its the community.

      • What are you on about mate?
I don't see any problem with the way OzBargain is run, especially when people follow the guidelines.

  • I bought a Sony KDL46EX720 for $1000 ($800) from Highpoint GG, VIC.

    • So did I. I also have seen people bargained it down to $970ish and then use gift card.

  • I found some in North Melbourne post office, but they said they are not participating in the 20% off sale. Anyone else getting knocked back?

    • Was it a post shop type one, or local post office?

      • Ah that's where I went wrong. It was an LPO.

    • Yeah I've been denied at an LPO

  • Is anyone in Sydney willing to share $400 to me? Please pm me. Thanks.

So this is my experience with tgg this week.

I went to the chatswoos store on wednesday, there was a big sign saying 10% off all iPads, I went to the sales person (very friendly) and got an offer of $584 for the new iPad 32gb white. There was no stock so I accepted the offer and paid $100 deposit with my gift card. I received a sales order stating i have $484 to pay when the ipads come to store. Everything seems fantastic at the time.

Then on Friday, they called me up and notified me my iPad had arrived.

I went to the store on Saturday(today), when i paid for my balance (which is $484), the store manager told me they could not sell me at that price (even though I have got my sales order clearly stating the price was $584!) and the lowest price is $630. So we asked why, she said it was a mistake and, I can't receive 2 discounts in one transaction. So I insisted that the offer I accepted was clearly $584, and I am only obliged to pay the remaining $484. That was when she started yelling at me, "if you don't accepted the offer, we don't mind losing another customer" "if you dont accepted the offer, leave our shop", "I you don't leave, I will call the police" She even tore up my friend's original sales order. (how appalling! lol, my friends and I were being polite at all times and did nothing other than insisting to pay for our original sales order.)

Because it is weekends so wei cannot call ACCC, we paid $630 using our gift cards but two of us managed to retain our original receipts($584) and the new receipts ($630). Will be calling ACCC on Monday. I will not deal with them again. Disappointing!!

    • Is she referring to 20% off giftcards by saying you cant receive two discounts in one transaction?

      • Yes, I argued that 20% off gift card is postoffice's discount, not theirs and the fact that they are not doing 20% off on gift cards. Then she said they had to pay the $20 difference but why is that my fault?! Sigh.

        • +1

i really hope u go thru withe ACCC. Thats really appauling! But if you want, i can buy the rest of the cards off ya :P

        • Even if it is TGG discount it is only their head office, just like the $300 Harvey ultrabook cash back.

    • Gift card discount has nothing to do with it, you could have paid full price for all they knew. Go for it.

      • What's making me upset is not the false advertising alone, she obviously had an attitude issue.

    • NSW Fair Trading (www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au) can help too.

      • Thx for your help!

      • Minister for Fair Trading, Anthony Roberts, is using facebook to show he's actively looking out for consumers.
He would probably like the opportunity to help make things right.

        • I got a issue with TGG..
There is stock coming on Friday but they refuse to sell…
They just pretend it is out of stock but I am pretty sure there is a batch arrived on Friday……

      • Yep, this is a Fair Trading issue. In my experience the ACCC will just tell you to make your complaint with them.

    • +6

Wow, is it any wonder retail in Australia is dying.

      • +1000

        • sales staff are suppose to assist customers with queries.

yet some staff have attitude and don't give a toss. Its like you have to plead for service.

    • yet another example of lack of communication between franchisee and the head company that came up with marketing ideas…

maybe someone from TGG should clarify the rumor that TGG franchisee will only receive $80 for our $100 giftcards..

or trust Today Tonight to investigate.

maybe someone sent today tonight this thread already?

    • After reading your post TGG will NEVER get any more of my business (once i have used my vouchers)

      I am disgusted.

      • +2

Bit extreme, most customers using the cards have had extremely good transactions with the TGG, myself included.
Avoid the GG mentioned but don't tar them all with the same brush.

        • +1

I had no problems with the sales stuff at all, the store manager was responsible for this appalling event.

    • +1

And why did you not wait for the police. Heck I would have called em myself

      • I was but she never dialed the number plus the store was closing. :(

        • Why bother arguing with her when she doesn't care she loses her job. Go for the TGG store or the head office, they won't be stupid enough for this to go to the consumer protection or the media. It would cost them tens of thousand on ads to fix their reputation.

        • ya go to the head office with the story, you'll get properly compensated

        • had similar isues ( not related to this gift cards ) and when i contacted the head office theny clearly mentioned ( in writing) tha they can't do anything as the sotre are just franchisee !!! they don't interfere in their business and its upto the store and the customer to settle down..but by saying that i would still advise you to contact headoffice and also ACCC..make sure you havesome written proofs that the store rejected to honour its deal..ACCC will also requie some documents which can show that you tried to settle down the issue with store first..i would say just to back p yourself send an email to the store saying all the stuff and giving them 3-4 days to respond before you go to ACCC..

    • +1

just call goodguy headoffice. The shop owner in rockdale is a DH as well

      • +1

Good on you. I bought an Asko and similar to Miele they cant be bargained for, but if I would have had any trouble, an email to the ACCC.
The guys who had the receipts have a very very strong case. Once you paid a deposit the deal is done even if the deposit is 50 cents.

    • +1

@victorheaven, if your account contains all the facts, the so called Store Manager is completely out of her depth both in regard to contract law and customer service. Is it true she twice said "if you don't accepted (sic)" as opposed to accept?

At that point you should have asked for the Owner/Franchisee. They probably would have remedied the matter on the spot but if not you should have gotten him to confirm that his position was that as stated by the Store Manager (highly doubtful). If he was really willing to hang himself by condoning the position/conduct of the Store Manager, then TGG head office would be the next step. This kind of conduct is not tolerated by any retailer that is part of a chain that is protective of their image.

      • +1

Thx for your post maverick. Yeah, she said "accept".

I am very certain she was the store manager as the original salesperson and the cashier were all willing to honor my original sales order. But then she showed up, they said she was the store manager and it was her call, nothing they could do.

The owner (Tim Wenden) was not in store but the salesperson recommended me and my folks to come back on Monday when TIm is in store, he would keep the iPads for us as we have paid for the deposit. We were just afraid that the store manager would take our names off the iPads and sell it, therefore we decided to pay $630 and file a complaint on a weekday.

    • +4

My housemate was in there buying a PS3 when he saw your transaction taking place. We were able to get the pricematch done on the PS3 because the manager was stuck with you. He said someone was being threatened to be kicked out by the manager about a 10% of iPad deal etc with gift cards. Amazing.

      • A witness to the deed. This will be interesting. You could probably sue them.

    • +3

"If you don't accept the offer, leave our shop" is irrelevant because:
Giving/taking a deposit = Contract is made = You and TGG/Chatswood have already accepted the offer to buy/sell at that fixed price

Refusing to buy/sell at the contracted price = Contract is broken = The other party can seek damages for reasonable costs (in your case, the difference between the contracted price and your final purchase price)

The method of payment is irrelevant unless it is written into the contract.

      See http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/Consumers/Contracts.html

Ask Fair Trading to intervene (over-the-phone consultation), but it looks like you will need to lodge a claim in the CTTT if TGG/Chatswood will not back down. CTTT will cost you $36 (non-refundable application fee) and your time. ($5 application fee for pensioners and students.)

      http://www.cttt.nsw.gov.au/Divisions/General.html

If you can afford the time, do not be afraid of going to the CTTT. No lawyers are normally allowed on both sides. You tell your story, you tell the CTTT Member what damages you seek, and if s/he agrees, you get an enforceable order against TGG/Chatswood.

      • Thanks for the info!

I decided to call up TGG chatswood on Monday before proceeding with ACCC/Fair trading and spoke directly with the owner Tim Wenden. He appologised and said they should honor the deal at the first place. But apparently someone in the store told him the store manager and us were yelling at each other(which is not true, we were polite and calm at all time, she was the only person that was yelling), so he decided to talk it over with the store manager first before getting back to me.

He didn't call me on Tuesday so I decided to call him back, he said he was busy, etc.

I will give it another day or two.

        • Have you heard from them?

    • +3

Maybe you can sell your story to channel 7. They are always happy to send undercover to film it and show it on TV.

    • I bought a new TV at TGG Hoppers Crossing (VIC) on Friday. They had a one day 20% off storewide sale, and I paid with discounted gift cards. Ticketed price was $3099, I paid $1984. In theory there shouldn't be any problem paying with gift cards.

  • A few adds on Gumtree for those who want to get locally.

And now for a good story

Ordered an Ipad 64 gb wifi on Wednesday, received call that it was in. Picked it up today at Caringbah Good Guys.

    $759 GG price
Asked if they price match Kogan$709 - man said generally no but then he matched it
and then 1 year apple care from $99 to $90.
Cost $799 - used $700 gift cards purchased at $560 from Australia Post

I will now salary package it and pay for it via my gross income after the tax savings and receiving the GST back. Total cost of Ipad 3 64gb Wifi will be $375 Thanks Ozbargain.

    • Do you salary package by claiming reimbursement from your company the full value of the iPad? Is FBT payable by the company?

    • Can I please get a copy of ur receipt to simplify things when I am in Caringbah today? Thanks in advance mate.

  • I just picked up ipad 16gb wifi for $498 (price matched Big W) from Prospect Good Guys using AP gift cards. Effective price ~$400. Very happy. Thanks OP & Ozbargain. There were around 10 left (16gb wifi) if anyone is intereted. Very happy with the customer service and they even reserse it for me on phone.

  • For those who found tgg gift cards but the ap claiming it not participating the 20% off promotion, is it possible to take the gift cards and load them at ap that participates the promotion?

    • +1

You'll need to steal the blank cards from the first PO and then lie to the second PO (as if you have found them behind the other gift cards etc). So it's not everybody's cup of tea.

      • I don't think they care if you ask nicely as they are worthless platics if not loaded and activated with any value. For those participated AP I don't think they mind loading them with 20% off promotion either if you honestly tell them the blank gift cards are from another AP. But for the troubles some people just couldn't be bothered and like you said "not their cup of tea".

        • +2

Have you actually tried this? How about you try first and tell us how you go.
Why would a non-participating AP let you take their stuff to another AP? They may be worthless plastics, but if you take them all away, wouldnt they have to reorder etc = time = money?

  • If I know any non-participating promotion AP has TGG gift cards I will. Some of those I went they just told me they didn't sell TGG gift cards nicely and asked me to go to those bigger APs to try my luck. There was a comment posted not long ago stating these are old gift cards that the APs are trying to clear them out so they can order some new ones in. Thats is why I don't think they mind us doing them a favour. Also, some comments also mentioning some APs agree to transfer some gift cards to collect and pay at other local APs. So I don't think reordering, transfering and time etc would be an issue for them too (just lke library books tranfer btw different libraries within the same city).

When will online order be dispatched? Just wondering ordered on AP online shop on 2nd of May, only got an order email, haven't receive any further notice, thanks

    • I'm wondering that too!

    • someone posted earlier that it might not be fulfilled and they will cancel if they can't find stock within 7-10 days of your order

      • I can't understand why they were selling online when they haven't got any in stock?

        • I think they have got some stocks, refer to reading from prior posts, it is probably due to sold more than stocked, hence, tchi6 says some of those online orders will not be fulfilled.

      • My credit card was billed within minutes of placing my order online. If they try and backout they'll be getting an earful about contract fulfillment from me. If they claim they have no stock - I'll say I can wait.

        • Their accounts department are probably diggin hard to create a terms and commotions document now so they can say to you when they cancel your order that nothing was guaranteed but thanks for participation

      • Very likely this is included in T&C to defend themselves for cancelling your orders when you tick "I agree…." where most people couldn't be bothered to read through it.

        • +1

Australian contract law says that if a contract is formed and consideration is provided (i.e. a deposit or some form of payment) then the contract must be fulfilled or compensation given. AP bought it on themselves when they put in place a billing system that automatically bills customer credit cards before checking if stock was available… now they must supply or compensate.

  • +1

Good news for those who ordered online. Postman just delivered my gift cards. So i guess you guys should be getting yours soon

    • tchi6, have you received any notice email that states they will post your cards before you actually received?

    • What is your order number? Thanks in advance!

    • Or time stamp of your order

      Thanks

    • Didn't receive any emails or notifications. Whic is why i was surprised to have it delivered today. Ordered around 1.45pm on the day it was available online. (i pretty much ordered as soon as it became available so i was in early) Before someone ozbargained it and bought 7.5k worth, LOL

      • Thanks for replay, good on you, enjoy your shopping~

      • No hope… I ordered after the 7.5k order…

      • My tax invoice has a time of 2:01 pm marked on it. I am from Melbourne too so I may have missed out.

  • Tchi6, what is the last 4 number of order number ?
    I ordered around 2:00 (Vic time)…

  • Kyneton Vic PO has about $500 left of GG giftcards
