20% off The Good Guys Gift Cards at Australia Post

4400

20% off on The Good Guys gift cards when purchased at Australia Post from 30 April to 13 May.

PS: Although the deal technically starts on the 30th, some Australia Post outlets seem to be honouring the deal now.

PPS: Looks like the link has been photoshopped out of the Australia Post official catalogue. And the link has been removed from Lasoo. I've updated the link to the catalogue. It is on the bottom of page 5 of the catalogue.

Nearly all Australia Post shops should be stocking these, many without a The Good Guys store anywhere near them.
Use the posted list of phone numbers for post shops to call around and find some.
Don't bother with capital cities, call regional areas. It took me 3 calls to find 35x$100, 35x$50 at Batemans Bay (I took all but 15x$50).
They said they are happy to transfer them locally, so I went in to my local PO to get it done.

There is sure to be lots out there!

    • How do they transfer locally? Do you have to pay a deposit first?

      • Sent from one post office to another. They called me when they came in.
        Activated and paid for locally.
No deposit, cards are worth nothing prior to activation.

    • Good idea - when you say transfer them locally, you mean post them to you? Where's the list of post office #s?

    • None left at Batemans Bay, Cootamundra, Glen Innes.

Not all POs will have them, just the POs that have a big enough display space/stand to hold them. E.g. St Leonards and Cootamundra never had them.

both me and a mate bought samsung fridges yesterday.
I got mine for $1600 (talked down from their $1800 ticket price). and a mate got his fridge for $2300 (not sure what the ticket price was)

    we both paid with giftcards.
suprisingly it was quicker paying with the giftcards, then buying them from AUS post.

  • any outlet that still have stock in sydney area?

      See my post just above

  • Hi, guys, I ordered TGG gift cards through both UAT website and official website, and today I received an email which contents the staff replying, as they would honoured my transaction purchasing on UAT website. But the thing is I've already purchased on AP official yesterday(I thought UAT was fake). could anybody verify the truth of that UAT purchasing?

    • Yesterday I got a phone call from Aust Post, to let me know my order on the UAT site wasnt going to be processed, as it was just that an UAT, and no payment would be deducted and my credit card details were safe.

I alright and was happy for it to be cancelled to avoid further confusion.

      So sounds like mixed messages.

      • thanks for reply,

      • another noob question, how can we know the order has been dispatched, will AP send us an notification email? because they has been charging from my CC, I have no idea where the GCs now.

  • I just picked up $500 worth for an iPad from North Lakes in QLD - they had another $100 left about an hour ago in case anyones in that area and still looking.

I finally found some!!!!! Yay I get my washing machine!!!

    • +2

Why did I get negged for that?! Two of us queued up at different POs at 9am on Monday but both were sold out. I've checked a dozen POs since. Have called AP, multiple POs. all I wanted was $500 worth!

    • out of curiosity which washing machine are you buying? I got the whirlpool 10kg front loader and i can't believe I can be so excited about washing, lol.

      • Not sure yet - it's only me but I had a 4kg in the past and it was useless. Was looking at a decent 7kg front loader (my laundry isn't big enough for a top loader)

        • Oh ok, we were actually going to be the WF0754W7V1 7.5kg samsung which worked out very cheap. Samsung have a $50 cashback on this particular model which ends today http://www.samsung.com.au/promotions/home-appliances/smart-c… we got them down to $690 which after the cashback and 20% discount came out at $502. It looks like a pretty good machine for this price, but you would have to get on to it today for the cashback.

      • How is it and how much. I saw it at GG with front Red panel. Too late for the samsung now.

    • NOOOOOOOOOO I SENT MY FATHER TO COLLECT THEM AND HE BOUGHT THE WRONG GIFT CARDS!!!

      :'(

      Ok back to my search.

  • Grafton in northern NSW has the cards still in stock. No GG's there so that's probably why.

  • I called a few POs and they all said they had more coming.
One said they didn't even have any to start with.

  • Checked two AP in Footscray Vic. yesterday -all gone, and one in tottenham they simply do not stock any. Plenty of the Restaurant ones though!

  • Mate just told me there is more than $1000 left at one of the Dubbo (NSW) POs… not the one listed on the list of POs (there are 3? in Dubbo).

  • I just picked up another grand so there are still a fair few around.

There is still heaps of time to go in the promo so i wouldnt worry about missing out just yet…

    • Which PO you got the 1k from?

  • +1

I just picked up $500 in $50 cards at the Altona Post Office (Vic), they had between $500 and $1000 left after my purchase at 4.30.

    • thanks for the tip.. i picked up the remaining $1150

  • Has anyone seen this on ebay yet:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/500-Good-Guys-Gift-Cards-5-10-OFF…

This bloke claims to have $12,800 of gift cards and he plans on selling them all. That is frigging nuts!!

feel sorry for the people who missed out when this bloke intentionally cleaned out local PO's not to help purchase products but simply to make money!!

    • +6

This guy would be spewing if something happens at TGG's and start refusing gift cards

    • Hah
At least I intend on spending my 7k.
But at the same time, there were plenty on offer for everyone, online and in stores, still plenty available, you just need to bother to find them.
Good on him for trying to make a dollar.

      • +1

I work it out at $1920 profit. That's without eBay fees.
TBH I think he will have trouble selling them all for such a small saving to the buyers.

        • I think for $475, ebay fees itself is about $37, paypal fees is another $11 (approx). So total money received after fees is about $425 … unless my calcs is wayy off.

        • @JLove
          You are correct.

    • +1

I hope no one bites and he's left with $10,000 that he can't use if GGs goes bust. That would be awesome and of some consolation to those who only have a useless $50…

  • Does anyone know of any Metro SA stores that still have stock? I tried calling all the stores nearby and they are sold out but I haven't got any yet so I am willing to travel, just don't know where to start.

Try the north east. Ingle Farm post office had a lot left. Hope this helps.

      • Thanks! I will give them a try

        • oops, sorry I meant Surrey Downs. So sorry, don't know why I got that mixed up?
They are between Fairview Park and Golden Grove.

      • When was this? I tried Ingle Farm on Wednesday around noon, and they were cleared out… plenty of Best Restaurant ones left though!

        • Can confirm still none at Ingle Farm today. Also none at Modbury or St Agnes.

  • Does anyone knows process of order delivery for AU? I ordered on-line yesterday and certain that my CC has been charged yesterday, but how to track the delivery?

Just wanted to say thanks to OZ bargain posters.

I was able to get the Good Good Guys to match shoppingsquare.com.au online price for the iPad 3, 64GB, 4G for $800.

Got the gift cards from post office in the morning - made my purchase for $640 . Very happy.

Btw. the cards were active straight away as I made the purchase within the hour of having bought the gift cards.

    • Oh match shoppingsquare.com.au, good on you.

They do like Officeworks which accept to match AUS online store.

    • +1

Good on you - are you able to post your TGG's receipt online?

      Thanks in advance.

      Cheers

    • Wow well done. Which GG was this?

      • Hi, I'm in SA . As David Jones match online shopping prices, TGG were happy to match David Jones.

I had to give them the website which was shoppingsquare.com.au. Once they have sited it they were happy to match BUT some changed their tune as well as I've discovered, sadly. (ps: I'm saying $800 but it was $798.95 - I believe and that was for a white one and the black one was $829.95)

Anyway, TGG in Hectorville would match $800 for a black one. But after an hour they decided to add postage on top = $830. In hint site matched the online price for the black one.

TGG in Mile End wouldn't match but offered $820 outright for a white one. . Just asking for best price.

    • Cool….. Are you able to post the receipt as well?
      Thanks

    • would you be so kind as to send a copy of your receipt?

    • Which GG match the price in SA?
      Thanks!

    • can u post the receipt pls?!
      thanks!

    • Shoppingsquare sells it for $828.95 not $800.

      • Now yes BUT not a few days ago. Please read through the thread you'll discover it's been mentioned earlier when it was on sale.

Is there anyone who had difficulty in using giftcard as cash?

In auburn TGG, after I negotiated with a staff - to match with web price,
the manager rejected to sell product in discounted price when I tried to pay.

he was saying that if he accepts those giftcard,
he only can get 80% of the giftcard from melbourn HQ.

it doesn't make sense at all. since giftcard is the same as cash
and how come they rejected giftcard to accept as cash…

I'll never buy anything in auburn TGG.

    • There was a post earlier on about someone successfully buying from Auburn using the giftcards. What was the price he agreed to match?

      • Manager told that he was happy to sell with ticket price if I pay with giftcard. I tried to buy fridge, dyson and TV - I negotiated to the price lower than web price though.

Maybe, manager has changed the policy since he was disappointed with not getting any giftcard. :(

        • Tell them you got the gift cards last Xmas as your present.

It's misleading unless they advertise that giftcards can only be used on normal prices.

      • +1

claiming that you got the cards as Xmas present last year may not work…..card expiry is one year from date of purchase and wrtiten at back of card, so all cards purchased during this promotional period will have expiry of 04/13 or 05/13…whereas a card purchased last Christmas will have expiry of dated 12/12, unless you got your Christmas present reecently.

    • +1

Call their head office and get that guys butt kicked: The Good Guys Support Centre (03) 9338 4300.

      • +2

I told to the manager that Ill claim to HQ. But he said Tgg Auburn is run by owner not HQ. Anyway I will make a claim.

        • +1

Cowboy will get his A$$ kicked.

What difference does it make to him anyway?? It's paid via EFTPOS.

    • what were you buying?

      • Fridge, dyson and TV ( yes, I know it quite a lot)

    • Not exactly as cash…you see revenue from gift card purchase goes to head office's coffin, once a card is used the local store need to submit claim to head office, then head office transfer those money to the store. Due to varies commissions in the whole process, the store don't get the full value of the card to begin with, and since there is a massive cut on those promo cards, it is possible the store will get even less…

      • +1

that's not the customers problem. These companies keep pushing gift cards each year and say its like cash. People shouldn't be penalised or treated differently for using it.

        • I agree, but heck the real world isn't always the same. My guess is there is certain fine print that backup the store's action…

    • No trouble at Auburn on Monday.
      That said, it started Monday

      • They changed thier mind I guess. Every staff said that - its managers' policy and they cannot sell with discounted - special price but ticket price.

        • Just left TGG Auburn. No problems negotiating a price and using gift cards today.
          Picked up a Dyson DC39 Allergy for $849 -> $670 - 20% = $536.

Did you mention the gift cards to the salesperson? Or just pull them out when it was time to pay?
My TV on Monday they seemed a bit hesitant, but today I didn't mention it at all to the salesperson, just paid using them at the counter.

    • Hi Alphasing

That is poor and I would speak to TGG head office - also ask to speak to the owner.
They advertise these cards as cash.

On Monday afternoon I bought an IPAD 64/4g for $853 (price match BIG W), a heater for $245 (I overpaid for that I found out later) and a 32gb IPOD Touch for $293 plus a IPOD case. I paid for the whole lot with gift cards and there were no issues whatsoever.

Also if you just want their web prices, you can actually order online and pay with your gift cards online. No need to haggle or hassle, just buy online, pay online, and collect an hour later…

    • @alphasing Is there a TGG head office? You should call and make a complaint, really jump up and down and have them arrange for you to get it from another store and delivered to you for free.

Got my cheap iPad today!! Worked fine and iPads are in stock at Essendon Airport in Melbourne.

Just got home from buying an iPad 32GB Wi Fi (only) for $502.40.

Also got them to price match Big W.

    Good Guys pirce: $649

    Price match Big W: $628

    Using 20% discounted vouchers: $502.40 ($628 X .8)

So $4 more than cheapest price for a 16gb to get a 32gb not bad I say. Thanks Good Guys!!

    • nice..but the 16gb could have been had for cheaper too if u used the card

      • Didn't want a 16gb thought to small of a size for me. $500 for a 32gb is damn good.

    • "Thanks Good Guys" or "Thanks Australia Post"?

      • thank them both

      • Good Guys would have discounted the cards as to much off bottom line for Australia Post to take on. It would be a ploy to make some quick cash on bottom line. But as we all know here everyone used it as a loop hole for cheaper goods. They would have assumed a good percentage wouldnt have used the cards before a year and then get some free cash flow. I think it back fired for them.

        • don't follow the logic of that at all. I don't even know why you think there's a "loophole" - unless you mistakenly think "price matching" is a loophole which it most definitely is not. The deal is very straightforward. 20% off the purchase price of TGG giftcards - which are the equivalent of cash in a TGG store. There's no loophole, no misassumptions - it's all very clear & simple from both the consumer's and retailer's points of view.

The only question is who is footing the 20%. Aust Post, TGG or a combination?

        • Cashier at Auburn said Australia Post footed the bill to me today.

    • Do you know if they had any 64gb wifi in stock? I rang them on Wednesday and they told me they didn't have any of the new iPad.

    • Thanks - did they have 16Gb ones in stock? I might head over there this afternoon

    • Thanks for the info, I tried and got an iPad 3 wifi 16gb from there. They have white and black 16g around 5 each, and 5 black 32Gb. They price match bigw automatically, that's nice.

looks like POs are getting replenished. My wife got a call earlier saying that $350 was available in a PO where she'd previously been and was sold out but she put her name down.

We already got $500 from North Lakes earlier today do didn't need this (was from Redcliffe PO in case anyone's interested - not sure if they still have it or were calling others on a list).

Might be worth calling around again!!

    • Redcliffe in WA?

      • Apparently qld.

Ethanol I got mine at deception bay

  • My local PO (in Sydney) tried to order the cards from the supplier for me. She called the supplier and the supplier said no more new stock until AFTER the promotion period.

Hopefully this is because the supplier has a backlog of card orders and can't take new orders. And not because they are holding back the supply until after the promotion.

    • Think it is because they really are old stock…once gone they are using new swipe cards @TGG

  • Cleaned up Altona.. goneski

  • Fml. I was going there now. It opens at 9?

    • i reserved it over the phone at 8am.. finito

      • Time to go aust post surfing.

        • Well I've been to six with no luck. That combined with lack of stock of iPad might make this a pointless excersise. Checking last one then off tO go do some work!

        • save yourself some time and call them first
