20% off The Good Guys Gift Cards at Australia Post

4400

20% off on The Good Guys gift cards when purchased at Australia Post from 30 April to 13 May.

PS: Although the deal technically starts on the 30th, some Australia Post outlets seem to be honouring the deal now.

PPS: Looks like the link has been photoshopped out of the Australia Post official catalogue. And the link has been removed from Lasoo. I've updated the link to the catalogue. It is on the bottom of page 5 of the catalogue.

Looks like maybe some more online later this week according to Australia Post Twitter just now:

"These gift cards are sold out everywhere unfortunately. I have been told that more may be available online this week. Alysse"

    http://twitter.com/#!/auspost/status/199371984860233728

    • if that's true… then my previous order might actually have a chance to get filled

    • awesome…

already bought a new fridge, but I am now also after a new vaccum.

    • I doubt so. The website has been updated to say 'sold out'. Previously it only had 'stock unavailable'.

      • where are you seeing "sold out"? It still says "Stock unavailable" at this link - http://shop.auspost.com.au/gifts/gift-cards

        • it says sold out next to the picture of the card

        • ah ok, so they've changed the actual graphic but not the accompanying text of the listing.

    • @simong: that's been AP's line since mid last week. Whether it's accurate or whether ppl like Alysse were just fed it to calm customers irate at not having their online orders (via the UAT site) actioned after first being told they would, is anyone's guess - only time will tell.

      • as it turned out, it was the latter - just false spin in an attempt to delay (with the aim of softening) the blow

  • I went to my local LPO and they told me that the cards were not scanning with the discount so they weren't a participating shop - but then the lady said that she would ring AP to check and 5 mins later came back and had said that she just needed to follow some special instructions to process them - they had just enough for me to get an Ipad! Apparently all LPOs should be able to do the same thing.

    • Which PO is this?

      • Yarraville - they still had about $200 worth of gift cards yesterday. And I think that North Melbourne may have had some as well. Good luck!

        • nup none in Yarraville or North Melbourne today

    • +1

@ Car-la-la: have you sold all your cards on ebay yet?

  • Went Alexandria GG and when I wanted to pay, the Indian gals screamed to the manager (who was only 2 metres away) "Another gift card? SHould I process??"

The manager said "Yes, but no special price, only at the full price". I then said, "RRP? You joking right? I got the card last night for me birthday"

He said "Post office have discount already, so you cant buy at the discount price"

I said "Bullshit, I got it for free. So that means I pay twice the RRP?"

He then let me buy but said won't process anymore

    • RRP? even with the gift cards it could still be more expensive than other stores. Make a complaint to head office. If it happens to enough people and they all compain, maybe they'll send a message down that this isn't acceptable

    • +1

That's bad. I thought Alexandria might be okay, they've been pretty competitive in the past, but now with the reports from there + chatswood + auburn, it just demonstrates TGG has a systemic bad attitude towards these gift cards. This is only a deal if they'll price match as they have in the past, AND let you pay with gift cards.

I've been sitting on the sidelines wondering whether to buy $100 to $200 worth on the assumption that I'll probably want to buy something electrical in the next 12 months, but I'm really starting to question if it's worth it. They have demonstrated that do not treat them like cash (you get a different level of discounts for cash and the cards), they do expire (can forfeit their entire value), and when you can buy the same item cheaper elsewhere (which is the very definition of a price-match, which they now seem to be refusing to do with these cards), and when you can get 6% risk-free interest on your money by holding onto it instead of paying in advance, are you not in many cases better off holding onto your cash, and haggling and/or shopping around when you want to buy something?

    • It's really suprising. I went to TGG Alexandria last week (Tues, 1st May) & price matched their price for Dyson Hot & Cool Fan with David Jones Catalog ($459). I spoke with the owner directly. He agreed, though he said he didn't make any profit with that price. When I paid using gift cards, the owner was passing by & said "oh no… i'm really not happy" & left, but the price remained the same.

The checkout guy said that the owner would bear the 20% discount, thus he's not happy.

  • this exercise shows that buyers should just avoid/delay buying for as long as possible, because sellers will eventually come begging you for you to buy their shit, instead of what we are experiencing now with them stingy franchises

    • can someone ask one of the Owners from one of the few franchises that are complaining exactly what is their concern, ie. how much do they think they're wearing of the 20% discount? if there is a percentage split between Aust Post and TGG, what is it?

      • I am guessing TGG franchisees don't bear any of the 20% discount but it is the franchisor bears it. I'm using the same basis as the Stockland 50% off gift cards that I don't think those individual shops bear any of the 50% discount but Stockland bears it. Of course APs will get less commission in dollars (maybe not in %) if the total sale of a $100 gift card they only receive $80 for it. TGG franchisees' concern is similar to the APs which for each iPad they are suppose to get more profit in dollars out of $539 RRP than $498 after the price match.

        • I can't see any basis for any of those assumptions.
We're looking for info from someone who might actually know.
And if anyone comes across a Franchise owner that doesn't want to price match (if paying via Giftcards), ask him what he thinks it's costing him.

good news for those having troubles to price match BigW iPad at TGG. It is now offcially on TGG catalogue iPad 16GB $498 starting 8 May, save you time to argue with them about using 20% off gift cards etc.

    • The ASUS transformer prime is a good price for the 64gb ($799 x .8 = $639.20)Page 4

    • bought it less than a week ago for $523 +_+

      • $523 for the 64gb and dock? where

        • Sorry I was referring to the iPad not Asus

    • +3

Can we turn the franchisees' argument around and ask for 20% off the $498 price by not paying by gift cards? TGG Auburn, Chatswood and Alexandria come to mind.

"I am paying by cash/EFTPOS and I did not get your extra 20% discount from the gift cards. So now you must give me an extra 20% off the advertised price."

  • I know i'll get negged for this, but anyone who wants to buy $500 worth for $420 (cards plus fuel, registered post with extra insurance, paypal fee) please contact me.
I'm not trying to make money from this, the missus bought some too and we have too many.

    • i am interested. please switch on to accept private messages.

    • +3

Haha..I don't think fuel is part of the cost for the extra $500 worth of cards since you drove down to AP and planned to get some gift cards anyway but you didn't realise until you bought too many.

    • al2011, i am interested. please pm me. Thanks.

    • I'm interested too. I can pickup from most places in Sydney within 2 days. I can do CBD pickup by tomorrow (Wed).

  • Anyone got $170 worth of card to sell? Just need enough for an ipod touch

  • Anyone willing to sell in Melbourne?

  • Austpost facebook can help you better determine where your order is. just leave them a post with your online order number

    Telephone staff no help…

  • Anyone interested to sell in Canberra, please let me know.Thanks.

  • I am in Sydney CBD. I have $300 left. Anyone interested to buy, please let me know.

    • Hi there, I am interested to buy them. I sent you a private message. Thanks!

  • Thanks wtfnodeal for letting me know the new price. Got my 16G WIFI only new iPad for $498 at Mile End SA. No haggling at all. Just asking for one and paid with gift cards. there is still $2 left on one gift card. May donate it to TGG. :)
There are still 3 left at 13:30. the Hectorville may have some as well. Just ring them.

  • Oh…no, just check with my online order, it is on the back-order….perhaps less hope to get it

  • TGG watergardens. I brought a $1900 split system. Price match to $1669. Used $1050 of gift cards. Then $200 cash back from Fujitsu. Great bargain!!!!

I gave them the cards and they looked surprised that I had so many. I asked if they were popular and she said no. I don't think they know about the 20% discount. So try there if you have any probs using them.

    • Which Fujitsu did you get

      • ASTG24LFCB 6.8kw cooling, 8kw heating. for just over a grand.

        • Highpoint had the ASTG24LFCB for $1518 two weekends ago.. i was deliberating between this and the 8.0kW… I went with the 8kW (ASTG30LFCB) for $1836

        • If they still have it for that price I might go for the 120% price match thing they do. Wonder if it works for tgg to tgg stores.

        • +1

And if you want a cheap install, I found a guy that does it for $500. All certs provided

        • It was a 2 day snap sale, 20% off Heating and cooling.. I tried to price match specair.com.au who had it at $1800, they wouldn't budge. PM me the details of the installer.

  • Some PO's receiving new stock. North Sydney PO received some yesterday and sold out by lunchtime. Kotara NSW also received some and sold out by early afternoon. Perhaps there are other POs receiving new cards.

So I dont believe the facebook person saying everywhere is out of stock. We bought another $2150 worth of cards from Kotara and Hamilton POs (no more left) just yesterday PM.

    • I had some delivered to North Sydney from elsewhere and picked them up yesterday. Are you sure they had new stock?

      • that's what the guy at the counter told my wife

    • You're already selling hundreds dollars worth on ebay, now you're picking some more up to sell on ebay?

      • More like thousands of dollars worth of cards

    Orbost had 11 x $100 and 29 x $50 when I enquired today.

    • i cant find a user by that name … can u help

I thought about making the 3 and a half hour drive (one way)from Melbourne but my little one would crack it on such a long journey.

Would make a lovely drive for any one that had the time.

Edit: sorry the above link doesn't work. Orbost is in Victoria.

  • Obviously there are still cards out there but Auspost is unable to track stock or can't be bothered with calling around.

I suspect they didn't expect this much demand, they weren't really prepared for a sale at this scale.

  • Thanks OP - got iPad PMd to BigW and $500 cards in local PO last week - great deal. Now to get the GST refunded next week and new iPad 16GB WiFi for $350!!

  • +1

Not sure if this has already been mentioned before or not, but for those people having issues using the gift cards for deals negotiated with TGGs (eg price matching or discount for cash), have a look at the Gift Card Terms and Conditions on their website:

'KEY TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF USE: Treat this card like cash…

In light of this, I don't think they would have a leg to stand on when they argue that a negotiated cash price can't be paid using gift cards.

Unfortunatly, I wasn't able to pick up any gift cards myself (need a new vacuum!), but hopefully this helps someone deal with those angry TGG managers.

  • I just called the PO that told me they were getting cards this week, as they had none to start with.
They did not receive any, and just received a message this morning that there would be no more.

  • I have a few TGG gift cards with no value loaded yet, anyone in Brisbane wants them I can send them to you. I have a friend who works at AP gave them to me before she goes on leave. I have purchased what I needed. Please email me [email protected]

  • I asked my PO for TGG gift cards to be restocked and put my name down for ten last Monday. The PO called me this morning to say that they could not get any card in.

just received this from AU post:

Due to overwhelming demand during our Mother's Day gift cards promotion, there has been a delay in despatching your order of The Good Guys gift card with 20% discount.

We aim to have your gift cards delivered by close of business Friday 11 May and will be sending your order via our Express Post service.

For your reference, this relates to the following order(s):
    M2000xxxxx

Australia Post sincerely apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    Best Regards,

    Australia Post Online Shop

    • likewise~ there's still hope…

but then again.. maybe just a generic Select * and send

    • I received the same email as yours, and also get response from AP, said they will send me my order, just calm down and wait, guys

    • Very happy with their service

    • Isn't the Express Post service a downgrade from the Registered Post service?

Express Post = Fast but dumped in your letterbox for all to steal

Registered Post = Card in your letterbox, pickup at PO after ID check

      • I believe they will use Express Post + Registered

        • Doesn't exist.
Maybe you mean Express Post Platinum

  • Do TGG sell iPad 2's?

    • Yes. Ring stores to check availability.

      • You can check it on their site after selected the model.

        Still showing available to me…

    • Read my user name, wtfnodeal again?! I checked every hour and it happened only when I went out for lunch!

  • now says stock unavail?

    • Showing available to me… Try again.. click on the card..or the link posted by geek001

      • Same here, but then "not available" when you try to add to cart… seems to be a lag in the website showing the availability.

        • Yep its gone now..
The 'restaurants' card is back in stock though.

  • I think it's gone.

  • Also, anyone that tried using the uat website, did you manage to get Austraalia Post to honour the deal?

Reading through the threads, looks like maxpowwa got them to honour the deal, what about everyone else's experiences pls?

    • How do we try and is it worth the risk if people are being turned away at TGG?

  • Looks like I missed out again :(

Anyone in Syd looking to sell their GG's card, please PM me….

    Fingers crossed,,,,,
