If anyone is interested, I've just ordered all the stuff to do this brushless upgrade for my 144001. Looked for the cheapest prices I could find on each component and it ended up costing me approx $130aud. That's on top of the cost of the car.

    https://www.quadifyrc.com/rccarreviews/144001-brushless-upgr…

These cars are super fun and super fast on the stock brushed setup, but they do generate significant heat so the motor and ESC won't last forever.

    • I've just converted mine to brushless and I now need to find a wheelie bar to either purchase or print for it as all it does now is standing backflips!

If you haven't purchased the 144001 yet and wanting brushless also consider the EAT14.

This may sound stupid but you could put in some weight on the front, try to combat the flips, I hated my cars when all they would do was wheelie, I sold all my cars and got into crawlers now.

Do us a deal on 12427 op. Pretty please…

For about $20 extra you can get the 124017 v2 on AliExpress. It’s already brushless so a far better deal.

    • Isn't that the one with cogging issues out of the box?

      • Not an issue for the V2

      • fixed with the V2

Link/Discount Code please, I have a V1 from first batch which I thrash and "need" a V2 (can't see the $20 more price)

    • Link?

I can only find “colours” bait and switch.

  • Is there any rock crawlers in these range of value r/c cars? Or even mods to convert?

    • +1

You need to be careful with cheap crawlers, when they break it can be expensive to fix.
I was looking at this for a long time and they seem to be pretty good.
If you want something more sporty, this seems uniquely fun.

      • I've tried MN and WPL 1:16th RCs, they are toys. Unless you get many of the metal upgrades they lack weight and precision.

There is a version of that drift tank that inlcude metal tracks in addition for less

        • I ended up buying one of these in the end.
Bought new esc, can, and these tracks

It was much cheaper in the long run than the Traxxas equivalent. The 1 i have goes over literally everything but you cannot use this on road, you need dirt as the tracks do not respond well to fixed surfaces.

The 12427 comes close. It's cheap, and being a brushed motor doesnt have the potential for cogging. Downsides are open diffs (locked would be better) which can easily be changed by filling the diff with epoxy. The motor and gearing is set for higher speeds than you would want for crawling so potential upgrades would be a slower more torque'y motor. Better, oil damped shocks help too. Other upgrades are somewhat limited as most crawler parts are designed for 1:10th (eg TRX4 and SCX10) 4-bar suspension. Maybe the 313mm Austar or Injora chassis are a better starting point?

I'm not an expert, just the owner of a modded 12427 (with a slow brushless motor). All up (not including a $90 flysky transmitter which I use for all my cars) probably $100 in upgrades before it reaches it's ful potential.
