Just to be clear it's actually a 9.09% discount because you're paying $100 for $110 worth of giftcards.

    • +5

I agree that it's a 9.09% discount, though it is a 10% bonus gift card?

      • Correct

  • Would be very rare for Myer to combine discounts ie match price then give gift card, but would be happily suprised if they do.

At the end of the day its a saving as long as you are happy saving it in Myer dollars

    • +5

its a separate transaction anyway so don't think it would be a problem

      • Okay good will be interested to hear the outcome

        • I would be surprised if they did not accept their cards. Just buy the cards at another desk in the store, then go purchase the ipad with the price match.

    • +5

As someone who works there, this would not be an issue.

Pricematching and your payment method are irrelevant. Essentially the sale is processed, then the final step is to choose a payment method out of four options: cash, card, myer card or gift card. If you were worried about it, you could just buy the giftcards at a separate counter

I had to go to the customer service desk, as the floor staff didn't know what I was talking about.
I got $300 on one card, and he gave me the bonus $30 on another card.
Went straight down to the elec dept and spent it all, and they price matched too…

I wonder if staff are aware of this? Hate going to checkouts and mentioning a deal like this only to be looked at like I have two heads.

  • when does this expire?

    • no idea, sorry mate

    • Offer expires on 13th May

      • nice to hear that!

  • +4

I usually go to customer service as internal communication with staff doesnt exist at myer

And on pricematching as usual dont reveal how you will be paying. First rule.

  • For OP, just ask, I did that for the first iPad a couple of years back at Chadstone without any issue.

  • Be very careful when you consider their "Price matching policy".

Myer will only match items that are instock at the competitor's store (they will call the nearest one, but it needs to be within the same City or Town), AND, must be above their own cost price

THEIR own cost price means whatever cost price they've put in their computer. e.g. Back 1.5 years ago, PS3 from KMart was on sale $320 (RRP $499). I attempted to get Myer to price match, they said it's below cost (as expected), and they showed me their cost price on computer … bang it's $499 !!

Basically they've put RRP in the cost price box and to show to their customers, then goes "sorry we can't match because it's below cost…" What do you call it besides fraud ?

      Data entry error?

    • sadly if this were true, they arent the only ones to do it.

ive experienced jbhifi and binglee doing it.

Used to work at Myer, and people I know who worked at DJs, JB, HN etc.

I think without bias, Myer had a pretty competitive floor cost price on some category of goods (think TVs), and was woeful on others (accessories, some laptops).

The example of game consoles I can explain a bit and it is one of Myer's problems with the way they communicate the cost to staff - game consoles are one of the ones where manufacturers always run limtied time promo's like free games and what-not. Myer's cost price system never updated for a temporary promo, it only updated for a permanent RRP change. So as staff we never really knew what the promo cost we were getting were. And as you may be aware, the normal margins on game consoles are one of the worst in retail.

In terms of cost prices that I have heard being tossed around, in my opinion JB is the worst. They get away with murder with some of the cost prices they claim.

      Hope that helps

      • EDIT: post removed.

Pricematched a 32GB black WIFI iPad to BigW's price ($628), 1 month ago in Myer Chaddy. And paid with gift cards I got from my credit card rewards program. The SA just verified BigW's price online, didn't bother to call BigW to check stock level.

    • Melbourne Bourke St - Asked if they would pricematch BigW, "No, sorry ! Not Apple products."

  • Nowadays retail stores tend to put "cannot below cost price" condition into their price matching policies, which I think it's very lame. Everyone do shop around before commit to buy anything. It's always the case that the lowest price offers by particular store is doing it below cost. Then if you take this price and try to get it matched by Myer or Dick Smith they won't do it. Why the heck you still call yourself "can't be beaten on price ?"

    • where do they mention in any of the adds for myer or dicksmith "can't be beaten on price"? Only office works and bunnigs give out those guarantees…. to a certain extent.

  • Called a couple of Victorian Myers, they have no idea about this promotion

    • I got through to Myer Melbourne and they have the promotion.

    • try city myer store on second floor(Melbourne)

    • I think it might be just for Melbourne city store. Saw the sign when I was there this arvo.

      • This was advertised in the Melbourne MX today, but I didn't take notice if it was only the Bourke St store, as that's my main Myer.

      • I bought mine in their Highpoint store. A lady on the ground floor had no idea about this. I got mine at their Lay-by desk.

  • do we buy online or instore?

    • instore plz.
i also made a call again.

  • I cant remember the last time I bought anything from Myer to be honest. Tempted to buy but then I have to find something to buy first.

  • What exactly is Myers pricematch policy? Cant find it anywhere on their website.

    • DJs will match any store advertised price (ie. DJs, Big W etc) but not an online retailer price. Not sure about Myer

  • The way MYER works is I think they sell gift cards with bonus amount but for $500 gift card ($550 spend value) you end up buying stuff (non-exclusive goods) at MYER which may sell for $450 at other stores. So, MYER is good at giving the bonus amount on gift cards but very poor at giving a good price on the items themselves. I am not negging this deal but its not worth spending money at MYER.

    • it is good that you did nt neg the deal. otherwise, you will be probably negged. :D

    • +1

I was always under the impression that the only time you go to Myer is when there is a sale on anyway.

  • Nice way to raise some quick cash!

Also, never had trouble pricematching at myer.

  • +1

Delivery to other states? If not other myers can price match since it's all the same company, if that makes sense.

  • does the card have an expiry date?

    • Normally 2 years

  • Are gift vouchers only available in the $ amounts above, or can custom $ amounts be purchased?

    • +1

Denominations are as OP, but you can load upto 500$ in one card !

  • -1

Well even with an extra $50 on top of the $500, $50 is alot but considering ther prices at Myers is way expensive for there products, unless stocktake sale

  • They pricematched the Coles Sunbeam stick mix system just on my word and gave me the free kylie kwong book. And I used a gift card.

    • That's because the item is way above cost price even after price match :D

  • +4

I terms of price matching or getting a better deal just try asking nicely if they can or ask them what deal they can you work out for you today.

Working in retail can be awful with a lot of rude customers and just plain nasty people, so in my case when a customer is nice to me and asks kindly i will move mountains to look after them despite how expensive (or not) the purchase is.

Just a general tip for dealing with staff in retail :)

  • Can I buy a card online and use it say in Brisbane or does it have to be used in Melbourne ?

  • can you buy a coles myer group gift card witha myer gift card?

    • Good point - can then get 9.09% off at Coles - anyone tried this?

    • You can't buy a gift card with another gift card.

  • They're paying the GST :)

called myer sydney, the sale is on too

    • is this confirmed?

can update title if it is

    • I Saw the ad in Sydney MX too.

  • Would be a good deal in combination with their $40 for $50 iTunes cards.

ipad 3 priced matched with BigW deal + the vouchers in this deal = BARGAIN!

    • Will they pricematch Dick Smith's deal?

  • How long is the promo for?

  • Thanks for posting! I let the sales assistant know about this promo this morning. Was able to purchase $500 gift card and then load up the $50 bonus on another card. On their instruction sheet, it says they are allowed to give a bonus up to $100, so you can get a maximum of $1000 on a single giftcard.

  • Just bought a new iPad 32gb wifi and $50 iTunes card total $629. Not a bad deal….

  • i would assume this is australia wide as it is advertised on myer.com.au

  • Asked if they would price match at George St Myer they said no because bigw doesn't have stock. Showed them they were wrong then I got price match then asked if they can sell gift card for the promo they said no can't do both deals. Told them I'll come back. Bought gift card and got them to price match and paid with my shiny new Myer gift card. IPad 2 for mothers day

    • Did you ask the same salesperson?

    • Was the salesperson an older Indian man? He had the same attitude towards me when I went as well. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a Big W or Target with iPads in stock :(

      Which store did you pricematch?

      • +1

Yea it was an old Indian man. I just searched bigw on their macbook airs and typed in post code 2000 on the ipad page. Most stores around that area had stock…I was like.."There is stock so can you price match? I'm going to buy gift cards at another counter but when I come back you can just pretend I'm a new customer :)"

        • Do you think they can price match Macbook Air deal of JB?

  • Edit: dupe

  • We just got our 32g wifi ipad for 628$ price match with bigW! Not a problem at all!

    • did Myer check for stock at Big W? Which Myer store did you go to?

  • is it still on???? :(

    • No it ended on Mother's Day

  • I love that you can buy iTunes cards with you Myer gift cards at Myer (Ive done that before). Ive only tried to do a price match once on a toy and it ended badly after 1/2 hr of being stuffed around. I boycotted Myer for about 3 years after that happened. I basically only shop there now if I get a gift card from someone or redeem through Qantas FF.

  • Just priced match the iPad 2 in Myer with the price at Big W and used the gift card I bought. Got very good bargain. Cheaper than in HK. Yay!
