Hiver - Where Can You Get Cashback?

Note: It's all over. Cashback will not apply to transactions that settle from 5pm EST Wednesday, 7 September 2022 onwards.

I don't know if this will take off, but I just thought we could pool our efforts to find out what merchants come under the cashback categories for Hiver. I'll try to add them to the post when people confirm.

Feel free to comment below with either confirmed or questions. It would be great if you update if no one answers and you find out.

See deal here if you have no idea what I'm talking about.

Finding Merchant code: Once the transaction has settled, click on the transaction and the category will be listed.

You can download your transaction history to help work out if you got all of your expected cashback. Brisdaz has requested Hiver add the Merchant Code to the file to make this easier, if you would like this added you may wish to request this also.

Merchants that work

Hiver have advised BPAY doesn't work for cashback.

Updated T&Cs advise cashback now only applies to Visa purchases (i.e. not eftpos/savings) via mobile payments (e.g. Apple/Google pay), online payments or PayWave. Some merchants, including some Coles stores, route tap and pay through eftpos, but paying through Google/Apple Pay goes through Visa (as long as you don't set it up as eftpos when you add the card to your digital wallet).

Appears to work even when paying through PayPal (does not work for Payin4) with the Hiver card.

It's a yes for Karrinyup Fresh Market (Grocery Stores & Supermarkets), which is actually a good fresh-produce store right in the heart of the Karrinyup Shopping Centre at the Woolies/Coles/Aldi end. Competitive prices and well positioned!

  • This one is a bit obscure, but it's a yes as expected. NP Import & Export (Asian supermarket) - Northbridge (WA). Shows as grocery stores & supermarkets.

Hi NP Carousel Supermarket at Cannington WA is Grocery Stores & Supermarkets).. cheers

  • Chan Bro in Willetton WA has Merchant Category 5411 - Grocery Stores, Supermarkets.

But today is the 5th day of the month, no cashback is received yet.

    • +1

Mine was on the 6th when it was my first time

      • Thanks for the headsup.

  • Hunter Water no good. Comes up as government services :/

  • Hi Guys,

Is Aldi cashback working for you?

I paid with Google Pay or as its known as Wallet now, I didn't got 5% cashback instead it got tracked as Source: Visa, Acquirer: 3885 and Merchant Code : Grocery Stores, Supermarkets.

Is it something I am doing wrong? Thanks.

    • +1

Ignore the acquirer code- that is a generic one. Merchant code is correct and you should receive CB. Did you just make the transaction in Aug? CB are paid out monthly so if this was in Aug then you'd only receive CB in Sept.

      • @Craze I made purchase in July and haven't received any cashback in August.

        • Did the purchase settle in July? That also also needs to happen. Otherwise you should have qualified.

          • @Stingo: yup, the transactions were settled, but there was an issue at Hiver side and they sorted all now.

      • What about tap and pay at Aldi with physical card? Does it qualify for cashback as I notice that on receipt it says eftpos. I made the purchase in early August so I won't know till Sep. Can someone confirm? Thanks.

    • Yep, as Craze already said, cashback is monthly. And yes, purchases at Aldi as tap will get cashback.

      • Is the EFTPOS/Savings option at Aldi now disqualified for cashback - have we determined that for sure?

        • +1

I used ApplePay at Aldi and have the transaction go through as eftpos SAV rather than Visa so no extra Aldi credit card fees in July and have received the cashback

    • Hi Guys, I had chat with Hiver and they said that the transactions are eligible and not sure why I didn't got any cashback. They also mentioned that there were few more instances of people not receiving cashbacks. Hiver have raised the request and checking it.

      • Hi did you ask them if tap and go at Aldi with physical card would qualify for cashback? Thanks.

        • Yes, VISA contactless transactions either with card or device definitely qualify. The only doubt in my mind is whether the other types of transactions at POS terminals qualified for the entire month and whether this will continue in the future given the updated terms and conditions. They certainly have qualified for at least some of July judging by various comments.

NECTR (electricity & gas) payment eligible for 5% cashback : Acquirer 3885 Merchant Category 4900 - Utilities

  • I can confirm AGL via Paypal is correctly classified as Utilities.

  • Energy Locals’ merchant code is listed as Utilities in the Hiver app so I’m expecting cashback.

  • I can confirm QEnergy(electricity) correctly classified as Utilities. Paid over the phone as well as using cc via post bill pay(auspost app)

  • +2

I spoke to Hiver on their chat this morning. Pay wave transactions are limited to $200 each and max $500 per day. To spend any more you need to insert card and use PIN. If you insert the card and select 'Credit' the cashback will be applied as it is routed through the Visa network.
You must insert the card for the whole transaction (so you're not combining the transaction by tapping for $500 and inserting for the rest). Using this method they say there is no limit, other than the funds in your account, however during the last Coles Mastercard deal I could not go over $1,000.

  • Please add "Southern Phone" to the don't work category.

  • Works: Seene (usually supplies central gas hot water to apartment buildings, owned by Origin last time I was told)

  • Don't work: Bodero (physical in store, discount store category therefore probably same as The Reject Shop) think there is only a few branches in Melbourne.

    so should work

  • Direct Debit for an Optus mobile plan isn't part of this, my cashback for July was $5.05 short but can't figure out what else apart from Optus didn't go through, most transactions were Coles/Woolies

    • If you want us to help you'll need to post more information about the $101 worth of transactions that didn't qualify. If you gave Optus a BSB/Account No as payment details to Optus rather than a card number then it does not qualify. Expand transactions for details of their category.

      • Optus has the card as the debit, not the bank account.

        Total cashback $20.65 which adds up the the below;

        July transactions;
Eight Bakery Pty Ltd $22.15 = Bakeries
        Bakers Delight $11.20 - Bakeries
Aldi $1.49 - Grocery Stores, Supermarkets
Coles $121.82 - Grocery Stores, Supermarkets
Woolies $119.02 incl $100 gift card - Grocery Stores, Supermarkets
Myki $87.28 - Commuter Transport, Ferries
        Opal touch on/off - $50.09 - Commuter Transport, Ferries

        Excluded;
Optus $99 debit for mobile sim plan set up with card number (pretty sure excluded as it's listed as 'Telecommunication Equipment and Telephone Sales)
Origin Energy Bpay - didn't realise I had even done this - it was the missing link lol

        • Glad you managed to sort it out.

If I recently opened one credit card in June (with Suncorp), is it still too early to apply for another credit card now?

    • This is not a credit card. Find a discussion on a CC deal. There are plenty, and read the comments before asking. You have been here for 4 years and made many comments…..

    Telstra mobile plan:

I have tested different payment methods:

    BPay no cashback (as suspected)
Paypal comes up as Telecommunication Equipment and Telephone Sales (hence no cashback)
Card payment comes up as Telecommunication Services (cashback but attracts a card fee which will be offset by the cashback)
Click to pay ?? not sure as I can't add my Hiver card (has no card fees)

I have had no luck with adding Hiver to "click to pay" to pay my Telstra mobile plan. I contacted Hiver and Visa click to pay and neither were helpful.

Has anyone had problems adding their Hiver Visa card to "click to pay"?

Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions for why my Hiver card is not being accepted at "click to pay"?

    • +2

By my estimation, I will reach my maximum cashback for the year ($250) in this month. So, should I restart my spending with Hover in Jan or Aug next year?

Just like your PHI cover limits.

I guess someone could sign up in December 2022, and smash out $5K of eligible purchases, and do the same in Jan 2023.

      • +2

Was about to sign up but read this on their website:

Effective Saturday, 27 August 2022 the 5% cash back offer has been withdrawn from market for all new Members who join from that date.

Existing Members who joined on or before 26 August 2022 will continue to enjoy 5% cash back until 5pm EST Wednesday, 7 September 2022 for everyday essential purchases.

          • @YesPleaseThankYou: Oh well, game over then. We're all know it wouldn't last long.

          • @YesPleaseThankYou: It's interesting that they've decided not to communicate this with members. Maybe they will after today as it's the last day to sign up.

            • @Miss B: This is the despicable part of it all.

I suspect there will be complaints from some who expected to receive the discount but didn't.

I don't think the 'we can change terms at anytime' (paraphrased) clause will save Hiver.

In my view, Hiver Bank has acted unconscionably by not disclosing the change in terms.

              • +1

@YesPleaseThankYou: I'd disagree with that. They clearly said that they could withdraw the offer at any time and they did put it in written too. You also know that this kind of offer won't last long, especially when it was out in the forum. Try to make the most of it, and be grateful that most of us here got something out of it.

Should be fine, it worked for me when I did it in June.

Just wondering … what if you go into Coles and buy Coles gift cards? Wouldn't that be in the supermarket category?

      • +3

        Yes, it would be.

        • Thanks, I was thinking of getting some too :)

          • +2

@bluesky: Just keep in mind they can't be used online. Fine for in store though.

            • +1

@Miss B: Thanks for the reminder. Good point. Also found out the same is true for FB$ - cannot be used online. Although @Yola mentioned somewhere that FB points can be used, using FlyPay.

      • +3

Probably worth getting some WW ones as well mentioned above if you have access to Student Edge and stack further with 4% off. Admittedly Coles Myer GC bought in store is more versatile, so depends on your needs.

        • +2

You can get Wish through Student Edge with 3% discount, which includes fuel. Big W is 5%. But I think Coles Myer has officeworks and alcohol as well.

          • @Miss B: You're right I just logged in to check and decided to buy some Wish GC at 3% off :)

        • Yes, the Coles Myer GC are quite flexible - can pay for petrol at Shell as well. Wish cards are also good, but have stocked up quite a bit already. Not only that, for quite a few weeks now, haven't been getting any good offers from Woolies (only 5x points), so wondering if this is the new reality with Woolies. Is that other people's experience? If so, prefer not to be stuck with too many Wish GC.

          • +1

@bluesky: At least the Woolies GC's do not expire.

  • Anyone know if we can pay Utilities in advance? I'm with Alinta energy and Sydney Water.
