Signed up Friday night without the free trial. Still no tracking yet. GYB said everyone should be tracked my Wednesday….

Got $20 eBay voucher straight away.

  • +9

Didn't track for me either. Wouldn't have purchased without the offer. Feel like I've wasted $50

  • +3

Can confirm more than 5 day officially passed out, but the cashback still not tracked at $40

  • -1

    Signed up yesterday, nothing.

  • +2

Still no cash back showing. Is it a new SB scam?

  • Nothing either here..144+ hours.

  • +1

No casback either. What did you write as order ID when starting the missing cash back investigation? I can't see any on my end

  • +1

Same, sign up on 20/5 and still nothing. This was through the app as well which has always tracked for me.

  • +3

I asked eBay for a refund seeing as I haven't used the service and they refused. No vouchers issues either.

This reminds me of why I use Amazon so much more. eBay's customer service is pathetic and not customer friendly at all.

Damn ShopBack for causing this frustration.

  • +7

So what's the next step from here?
I sent GYB a message but still haven't heard back.
Nothing tracked yet! I would have never bought Ebay Plus for 50$

    • I'm hoping GYB is currently working towards resolution of these issues. An update would be nice though

  • +1

Wow, $20 voucher for sign up, $30 Giftcard just sent through from Ebay because 'we value your membership' (I assume this is the Gift Card I was meant to get when attempting to cancel my account some time ago). Just waiting for the $40 cashback to track now :). Regarding the Cashback tracking, last I read it was up to Ebay to send the data over to Shopback so they could confirm tracking and start the cash back process. Wouldn't be surprised at all if that hasn't happened yet given the timing with Ebay Plus weekend etc.

  • +3

Join 20/5, no tracking email. Would be careful with SB in future if big cash back involved.

    • +3

I've read people complaining about SB before and I've 'had their back', but I guess if this doesn't get sorted I'll be switching sides.

      • +1

Will this be a whole lot more worse than SB's epic data leak hack back in 2020?

      • Goodluck getting $40 CB from CR for eBay Plus sign up.

      • +1

Honestly haven’t had many issues before but $40 is $40

  • +1

    Damn. Have wasted $48.99.
Wouldn't have bothered otherwise since it gavelittle value last time I had ebay plus.
Have sent an enquiry on missing cashback - fingers crossed!

  • +3

C'mon guys, give it time for @gotyourback to get back to us regarding this.

Like Rep previous said, tracking for eBay Plus subscriptions isn’t as automated as other stores.

People sound like if they don't get the $40 they're gonna go bankrupt by the end of the week, some already trying to seek refund already.

    • +3

Yes, but in fairness, the idea of paying the full $49 for eBay Plus is a very bitter pill to swallow.

      • You still got the $20 voucher from ebay.

Lets at least wait to hear back from rep before everyone starts lighting torches and grabbing pitchforks.

        • +4

You still got the $20 voucher from ebay.

Yes, but none of us would have signed up for that alone.

Anyway, I haven't lost hope that it will be resolved. I do regret rolling the dice on this one though.

        • +3

Yeah, but that alone wasn't a big enough carrot. Not when we were offered $40 previously from eBay Plus.

I'll be honest, even with the $40 Shopback cashback I was hesitant in signing up, it was only the $20 voucher that sweetened the deal - actually getting something for nothing.

It's probably eBay's screw up, but after sending Shopback screenshots of their website and the exact link I clicked on, followed up with emails from eBay (Welcome to eBay Plus and Payment Receipt for eBay Plus - both with timestamps that correspond to the click activity shown in Chrome and the Shopback app. What more proof do they need?

Wait until July 20 to make sure we haven't cancelled? Surely they can track it properly, show that we will get the $40, and re-check again with eBay if we're still active Plus members. Sure, it sounds like a lot of work for Shopback, but why offer the promo if it's going to be such a hassle to them and us?

    • +1

It's not just about the amount - in essence we have paid $29 for an annual membership if we got the $20 voucher and don't end up getting the $40 cashback - and assuming we spend the $20 to purchase something.

Not the end of the world - but that's not the point. In principle, we would have not signed up if this "cashback offer" wasn't advertised in the first place.

It's more about the feeling of being "conned" into an annual membership - if the cashback offer doesn't end up getting honored at all.

Worse, they might make us wait until July - and then inform us that we won't be getting the $40 cashback due to being ineligible by getting the $20 voucher.

If it was clearly stated that by getting the $20 voucher invalidates us for the $40 cashback, fair enough, but that's not the case.

Not only was it "NOT" stated - but in fact the rep on these forums even provided instructions and provided a link directly from the ShopBack website to the $20 voucher offer —- which has now conveniently been removed.

      • +1

Wow, didn't even realise that the $20 link got removed from the shopback site. Should have taken a screenshot…. Super shady.

  • +1

NAB charged $1.47 international transaction fee for the eBay Plus $48.99 charge.
Paid with PayPal linked to Qantas Signature rewards card.

    • +1

So did my cc (through paypal). It comes through as a Swiss transaction.

      • +1

Sounds like they are moving cash to Switzerland to avoid taxes in Australia

    • +2

I was also charged $1.47 in foreign transaction fee. shudders

I selected my Up card during the PayPal checkout, but some bizarre reason PayPal chose my NAB CC.

I have lodged a dispute as there was no indication that this would be a foreign transaction to begin with. All amounts were in AUD.

      • I also payed using NAB Debit card for one, and revolut for other one, Havent been charged international fee for either one. Or may be that my account dont even have $1 to be charged, if charged would probably get denied since no money in acc.

      • This just goes from bad to worse.

    • Yeah I got charged $1.66 through Paypal CC for international transaction

    • I paid $48.99 with Westpac CC and no fee whatsovever.

      • Has the transaction settled?
When I checked earlier in the week, it was sitting at $48.99 (pending).
Upon re-checking after reading @albanyson's comment, I see it settled as $50.46.

        • Yeah it's settled. No longer pending.

          • @foxes28: I used my credit card directly and not through PayPal.

Perhaps when it goes through the PayPal gateway, the transaction is charged via the Swiss account, and thus the bank slaps on the Fee, whereas if charged by eBay directly it doesn't.

            • @proudwanderer: Yeah same here - used the CC directly.

              • @foxes28: Same using Debit card directly instead of paypal,

I think paypal attracts those international fees

                • +1

                  @USER DC:

I think paypal attracts those international fees

Nah I used PayPal linked to my ING direct debit card and no international transaction fee

                  • @CVonC: With ING definitely been charged International fees multiple times when bought eBay items using Paypal or without Paypal
ING said to me, may be the seller's finances are outside Australia that's why i was charged International fees.
But anyway with ING, they do reverse the International transaction fees, almost instantly too (I think they capped that too now though)

                    • @USER DC:

they do reverse the International transaction fees, almost instantly too

Yeah but they usually list the transaction fee as a separate item on your statement. I didn't get such a listing where as I have in the past.

      • +1

I paid $48.99 with a CommBank debit card. No fee. It's charged as "eBay Plus 888-749-3229 AU Aus Card Xx####"

  • Mine didn't track either. Lodged request and automatically track to $0 but it says wait till 20 july when ebay confirms that my purchase is affiliated to shopback.

  • Just got tracking for $0 for an order number not on any of my eBay purchases so could be the ebay plus subscription (bought 9pm 20 May). Anyone else?

    • Yeah. I made 2 eBay transactions, and have just had 2 $0 tracking events show up. One of the transaction IDs matches a purchase I made, and the other does not match the other purchase, but does match the date and time of the purchase. There's a chance it's for eBay Plus, but it's strange that the date and time line up with something else I bought.

      • -1

Ignore my comment. 0 tracking was for Amazfit I think - used eBay Plus code not on SB.

  • I've noticed that the "link" that gotyourback added to the page for eBay Plus on the ShopBack website which goes directly to the $20 voucher promo has now been removed.

Therefore, we an no longer "click from ShopBack to the voucher page to sign up"!

So is that an indication that getting the $20 voucher makes us ineligible for the $40 cashback?

So does that mean that all of us who have already signed up and have got the $20 voucher already are ineligible to receive the $40 cashback?

Is that the reason why the tracking is not showing up for us?

Anyone that have signed up without the $20 voucher, and is tracking showing up?

    • This makes me think that eBay is potentially the one who is not accepting these SB cashbacks due to stacking $40 and $20 as they are 2 different incentive programs.

eBay definitely would have received a FLOOD of annual membership from this promotion, and I hope that they can honor this deal as a sign of good faith (which eBay is definitely not known for).

    • I signed up without the voucher and tracking did not happen automatically. I had to lodge a missing cashback claim and now asked to wait until 20th July 2022 for a confirmation of cashback

      • +1

Yep. I got the same email.

I think that's what is going to happen unfortunately. GYB said it would track at $0.00 then change to $40.00. Neither of that has happened (unless i've missed a post somewhere).

They could just honor their promo and show the potential cashback is $40.00 which will become available July 20th, check with eBay then, and pay up. If it gets rejected at that point, I think we have valid reasons to sever ties with both eBay and Shopback. It shouldn't have been this difficult or stressful.

Even with the $40 cashback and $20 voucher, ignoring the somewhat inflated or jacked up prices on eBay, we come out $11 ahead or $16 if we use the $5 monthly Plus voucher on a separate purchase. That's best case scenario. I think most of us would not have signed up for eBay Plus had it not been for this deal. Not worth the stress or hassle if we knew then what we know now.

        • "I think we have valid reasons to sever ties with both eBay and Shopback."

Don't make me laugh. Would it be just like how successful Ozbargainers have severed ties with Harvey Norman?

          • @fuzor: I haven't bought a single thing from them since the 10% tax nor stepped foot in their stores

  • +2

I'll keep mine negged until it is resolved.

Typically in the past when there were issues between shopback/ebay, we at least got an email acknowledging it and an indicative timeframe was given. While ebay is part to blame, shopback aren't doing their part by being transparent about the issue(s).

    Mod: Vote solicitation removed.

    • I replied to a message GYB sent yesterday for further info but he didn't respond today.

I ended up lodging a missing cashback through Shopback and it went through instantly. Now its in calculation. If yours still hasn't tracked, it probably isn't gonna track so you'll need to manually lodge it.

      • +2

That doesn’t mean much. Their system just creates an artificial tracking automatically when you lodge a missing Cashback.

        Try this:

        1. Look through your click history and pick one of the clicks that you know that you never went through the transaction

        2. Lodge a missing Cashback claim on it and just make up an order number and upload some random pdf document for invoice

I can guarantee you will immediately receive a “missing Cashback” tracking showing up.

You won’t get the Cashback though - since you never went through with the transaction.

        ——

Not really telling you to lodge a fake missing Cashback claim. But just trying to make a point that “it went through instantly and in calculation” means nothing at all.

The system is programmed to do that whenever someone lodges a missing Cashback claim - even if it was a fake claim.

        • Yeah. I clicked through a few times, and seems you can lodge a claim on any and it instantly changes to Calculating/Pending.

          It’s like an automated response.

I did receive a private message from GYB this afternoon, where he said he’d look into it for all of us OzBargainers affected by this and get back to me, so that gives me a glimmer of hope that this will be resolved (eventually).

          • @Graffin: That’s good to hear.

Really hope GYB can come through for all of us!

      • +1

BTW - Seems that GYB is MIA and completely disappeared now.

Was very active at the start- even replying to people individually.

Also confirmed that we could get the $20 voucher as well as the $40 Cashback - even to the extent of putting a direct link to the $20 voucher on the ShopBack website.

That’s when we all jumped in and signed up in droves - after that confirmation by GYB.

Now both the link and GYB seems to have disappeared.

I hope I’m wrong - but right me it looks as if we’ve been conned into eBay Plus.

Without GYB’s confirmation probably a much smaller portion of people would have signed up

        • +1

GYB isn’t MIA just probably swamped from us OzBargainers!

          • +3

            @Graffin: Hope you’re right!

But would be good if he would at least pop in and just reassure us if:

            1) eBay not playing ball so SB is deep in negotiation, OR

            2) Nothing dodgy happening with eBay or SB and they are just swamped so longer than expected delays, OR

            3) System glitch and they are working on fixing it and/or doing manual approvals

            ——

Don’t need to reply to people individually but just pop in with a quick general explanation of what’s going on should help to ease our minds.

After all he did say earlier in the week that everyone will have their Cashback tracked by midweek - which obviously didn’t happen.

          • @Graffin: Swamped is an understatement 😅

            • @gotyourback: I feel for ya, eBay CS (yeah those empty headed support agents) are well known to mess up everything. literally everything

        • +1

He isn't MIA. He actually made a comment about this eBay plus thing in another SB thread earlier today. But yeah I could imagine the amount of pressure from OzB community.

Side note: with regards to eBay Plus, we are working with eBay directly to understand why some users did not have their subscription track.
I'm still collating all the customer accounts manually to send a list to our eBay contact.
We will sort this out, please hold tight.

        • +1

Hi @proudwanderer, I've provided an update here.

With regards to the $20 Voucher, eBay confirmed that signups using that landing page would be eligible - I know that for a fact.
Then a day or two ago they reached out requesting we remove the link due to customer profitability.
Customers who used that link while advertised will still be eligible for Cashback, eBay simply do not want us promoting it on our site any further.

          Cheers,
          GYB

    • Hi all, I've provided an update here.

      Cheers!

  • Also waiting for mine to be tracked. Fingers crossed for some good news soon..

  • +7

I'll repeat what I said in an earlier post, why in God's name hasn't GYB marked this deal as expired until they fix the problem ?

All of the positive experiences and trust SB have built with its customer base will quickly become displaced by this unbridled palava.

Keeping this promo ticking over in its current form is nothing more than an act of self-sabotage IMHO.

    • why in God's name hasn't GYB marked this deal as expired until they fix the problem

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12182883/redir

Still waiting for an update from GYB to start with.

Should we lodge a claim or simply keep our mouths shut while the issue is being looked at?

    • +4

Hey @ash2000, I'm not the poster of this deal - I can't expire it from my end.
I will report the deal & hopefully a mod can expire it for us.

I apologise for the poor experience, absolutely not what we wanted from this promo.
We had really high hopes but it definitely didn't go as expected.

      We'll get this sorted.

      Cheers!

      • Thanks for the reply GYB.

My experiences have always been positive with SB to the point where it has been my preferred CB provider.

Unfortunate that this problem has arisen on a high-value cashback amount.

Fingers crossed that eBay deliver what it promised.

      • Hey GYB, the promo initially had no expiry. Will it be up again soon?

        • +1

The deal is still live on our site, but we are working through the issues with tracking at the moment.

        • at the moment its a bit risky game dude, i really dont suggest you signup to eBay plus for sole sake of $40 CB, only sign up if you actually want eBay plus, and are getting something else in return too like $30 GC. unfortunate that cant stack $20 voucher and $40 cashback anymore now.

  • No tracking too

  • Plot twist:
eBay backflip on paying $40 cashback + $20 vouchers after seeing how many people signed up for this deal.
Now SB blaming GYB for "accidentally" confirming that it is a stackable, and need to fork out $40 x 100s of people that sign up…

    Hopefully that didn't happened

    • +2

Accidentally confirming? It was literally on a click through link

      • Which has now been removed.

Anyone get a screenshot showing the link?

    • Hey @OzBestDeal, it wasn't an accidental confirmation - we asked eBay 3 times to ensure we weren't providing the wrong information.

      Cheers.

      • Hey GYB, does that mean who signed up using $20 voucher offer will not get this cashback?

        • No, it means if you clicked through using the link to the $20 voucher offer you WILL get the cashback.

        • Hey @s0805, eBay had confirmed 3x that those signups would be eligible for Cashback.
So yes they will be eligible.

          • @gotyourback: Ok. That's good. Now I have to figure out why after raising a claim why shopback is rejecting it…@GYB I will reach out if required….

          • @gotyourback: Yes I know this exact feeling, had multiple times with them. Their CS is insane.

          • +1

@gotyourback: Why did you have to ask eBay three times? Sounds like there is a lack of trust or is their communication with partners a mess?

I work in marketing and I wouldn't go anywhere near eBay as a potential partner given what I've seen.

  • +2

As of this morning I have $40 tracking for the ebay plus annual membership. And I had previously received the $20 voucher when I signed up.

Before today, shopback only had "Calculating" for the annual membership. This morning a new line was added showing tracking for $40, but I still have the "Calculating" line as well.

    So stay hopeful people!

    • When did you purchase Ebay Plus?

      • Bought it 24/5, I got the $20 voucher soon after. It was done through the mobile app.

The next day I had an email saying I would be getting $0.00 cashback. But when I logged into shopback it was still showing up as "Calculating".

    • Good to hear - checked mine nothing yet.

    • I still don’t have my tracking yet, bought the membership on 21 May and have submitted a missing cashback claim

  • +16

Hi everyone, I apologise for the lack of communication on my part - this week has been chaotic.

I've been collating a bunch of user info to send across to eBay in the hopes that they can identify what went wrong with the tracking.
Our ops team have sent this info across & I will keep you updated once we hear back from them.

In the meantime, if you haven't already please submit a Missing Cashback Claim so it's lodged in our system.
The team and I will ensure the Cashback is sorted out for you all, please allow a little while for us to hear back from eBay first.

    Thanks,
    GYB

    • Hi GYB, thanks for updating us.
Care to share what information is expected in missing cashback claim?
Eg. what order number we put in, and what proof of purchase expected?

      • +2

Theres an invoice ID from the Paypal receipt

    • -1

It’s better if you can just manually add the cashback to our account.

    • @gotyouback do we need to dm you on here with our details or will the ticket raised through shopback suffice?

      • +1

Please raise a ticket through our App/Website so it's on file in your account.

        Cheers!

        • I forgot to add that I've submitted missing cashback and it's saying it will be resolved by the 20/07/22 is that all we need to do?
