Free Portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II for Citizens of Australia by Request to Your Federal MP

23328

Considering it's Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee this year it's an opportune time to remind everyone that all citizens* of Australia are entitled to a free portrait of the ruling Monarch from their local federal government member. If you're not sure who that is you can go to the Parliament's web site and search by your postcode. Contact them by email, phone, or drop in to ask how to get yours.

Portraits can usually be collected in person from either your nearest senator or MP's office. I'm not sure if they'll post one to you if you're not nearby, but if you ask nicely you never know your luck. If memory serves me correctly they're roughly A2 size and printed on reasonable quality photo paper, ready for framing.

*I'm not able to find anything on the Australian government web sites that it's restricted to only citizens, but previous articles on the Internet suggest this is the case.

To paraphrase Malcolm Turnbull, even if you're not a Royalist you can at least be an Elizibethean.

Are we able to get a portrait of Scomo?

    • Unfortunately, as he was playing at being PM, we will be 'honoured' by an official portrait of him in the future, as per standing orders.

  • +2

so who pays for this 'free' item?

    • Same as any number of free items. Someone will pay somewhere.
In this case, I see it as just a (minor) opex for the government. There are much more costly items which our taxes fund.

      • +2

too true - somone will pay somewhere and ofc will be us as taxpayers. Yet agreed; it is minor opex in the scheme of things as definitely more cr@p the gov wastes our money on than this.. can understand some ppl will see value in having something like this. I wont try to understand why as to each their own

Australian taxpayers, including those who do not condone pedophiles unlike the many upvotes here.

      • -2

I take offence at your assertion that the (currently) 224 upvoters for this bargain condone paedophilia.
That is just nonsensical and without credence.

Happy to listen to your proof of your assertion.

Ewww 🤮🤮. Why? No… Just why yuk

  • Currently showing as 27 neg votes for this free deal (vs. 215 positive votes). Probably half of those are 'supported' by silly comments as to why they think it should be negged.

I sure those 27 voters are thankful they live under a system of government which does not include lèse-majesté laws.

  • Hahhaa this is a joke. When is she going already.? The French were right to behead the royalty

  • Being a migrant from a colonised country, do people realise that ALL civilisations colonised / invaded and / or had battles with other societies / cultures / religions at one point or another in time. The difference is the Anglo-Saxons write about it in history more and also apologise / feel bad about some of what happened decades or centuries ago. But to just go and point at one civilisation for invading when pretty much all civs did this at one point in time or another. As well as just battles or wars with other cultures and societies for silly and nonsensical reasons (now) but back then it made sense to them. There was a time where people just didnt treat other people the way our current society does, they may have been wrong but they didnt know any better at the time as that was what the society had evolved to at that state. At a certain point in time we were running around attacking any other villages that were not part of our communit / village. Thats how the nomads lived, go further back and we would have pretty much attacked anyone who wasnt family…

The British Empire committed genocides of the native populations of Americas, Australia, Africa, India, amongst others. They came, murdered millions of natives, enslaved the rest, stole land and resources in the name of the King.

And not forgetting forcing opium imports into China by the barrel of the gun to open up her trade routes. No other modern civilization has brutalized the human race with such vigor in the last two centuries, not even Russia comes close in its Ukraine atrocities.

I'm no historian but I'm happy to be corrected with the above facts. The Queen and the royal family are the vestiges of an evil legacy which should have ended with us former colonies cutting off the Gordian knot.

    • All true, to my understanding.
But this is a free print, so should be considered a bargain.

I wish this Queen joins Ozbargain just to read all these comments.

  • Why would I want a portrait of someone from the house of saxe coburg gotha?

  • confirmed the MPs dont do this nowadays

  • Mine was:

    Parliamentary party positions

Government Deputy Whip in the Senate from 2.7.2019 to 18.10.2021.

    Interesting title!

Not a deal, waste of Aussie taxpayers money.

    • -2

TBH, the cost of this is most likely a lot less than our politicians claim in "expenses" daily.

Some would say that, as a taxpayer, you would be crazy not to partake to make sure you get your full entitlements from the tax system.

  • I want one

  • Perfect for my toilet that I just got rid off🙏🏼

    • You "got rid off" your toilet?

can you still get a free flag from them ?

For anyone living in Melbourne, following Adam Bandt's antics from a couple of days ago https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/anthony-albanese-rebukes… I am sure that he would love to give patriotic people free Australian Flags as per https://www.pmc.gov.au/resource-centre/government/australian… perhaps get a picture of the queen and a free flag at the same time from Adam, I'm sure he would be overjoyed providing lots of these to as many people as possible.

  • Anyone that has Adam Bandt as their local MP please ask for one, I am sure he loves giving out these and free Australian Flags.

  • Too bad they don't have an option for the portrait of Kim jong un

  • Horrible. Can't believe we still have a 'Queen' and so many people line up to see her or any of the 'royal' family when they come to Australia…so sad that people have nothing better to do. What a huge rort and waste of our money.

    • And how much money do you think it costs compared to changing so many things, and compared to paying the salary of a president? Its a pittance.

  • Should this be reposted as a new deal for the new King?

    • Not available yet as he hasnt taken his australian regalia portrait yet.

  • Don't forget to also request congratulatory messages at the same time.

I am not sure if your MP does this but I know mine does require appropriate documentation.

My local MP Matt Keogh requires you to provide a birth certificate, a marriage certificate or a statutory declaration to get the congratulatory message.

If you want a free flag you need to local schools, not-for-profit organisations, Australian exchange students and families of war veteran.

  • So are there still QE2 portraits or have they been destroyed in favour of KC3?

    • They havent destroyed them, but they arent getting any new ones, so it depends if your local member has any left. Write an email and ask, it never hurts to ask.
King Charles hasnt taken his yet and they arent sure when he is going to.

  • I wish i had known about this

  • I got one of Queen Elizabeth! My local member still had one! It is beautiful. They also said King Charles hasnt taken his yet.
