Free Portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II for Citizens of Australia by Request to Your Federal MP

23328

Considering it's Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee this year it's an opportune time to remind everyone that all citizens* of Australia are entitled to a free portrait of the ruling Monarch from their local federal government member. If you're not sure who that is you can go to the Parliament's web site and search by your postcode. Contact them by email, phone, or drop in to ask how to get yours.

Portraits can usually be collected in person from either your nearest senator or MP's office. I'm not sure if they'll post one to you if you're not nearby, but if you ask nicely you never know your luck. If memory serves me correctly they're roughly A2 size and printed on reasonable quality photo paper, ready for framing.

*I'm not able to find anything on the Australian government web sites that it's restricted to only citizens, but previous articles on the Internet suggest this is the case.

To paraphrase Malcolm Turnbull, even if you're not a Royalist you can at least be an Elizibethean.

            • @Viospeed: If it is a propaganda campaign, where you get the unadvertised option to ask for a picture, it is a very poor campaign.

Again, even the Australian taxpayer funds that have been outlayed on this obviously don't go to the Queen or her family. So we are not helping out with her son's legal fees / settlement.

              • +2

@GG57: I clearly stated it was the British tax payer so why are you talking about that?

I said why would anyone want a portrait of a someone who bails out a paedo?

                • +1

                  @Viospeed:

…who helps out a paedo with tax payer money.

Is your disgust about the helping out of a paedo, or about your suggestion that British taxpayer money may have been used.

                  • +1

@GG57: Both, are you not phased by the actions taken?

                    • -1

@Viospeed: I'm not bothered to be honest. I'm pretty sure there are similar instances all around the world where rich people help out other rich people for crimes they have committed.
Even if British taxpayer money was used, it isn't relevant to us here.

                      • +3

@GG57: Like I said, it's relevant as I can't understand why someone would want a portrait of her and the government is pushing this propaganda.

                        • -1

@Viospeed: The government isn't pushing the propaganda.
As I said, this isn't openly advertised, that a citizen can request a picture. It isn't even guaranteed that such a request will be successful.

Some people like the royal family, and this Queen in particular.
Surely they can try to avail of the opportunity.

                          • @GG57: Sure if you support a inbred family who spends millions to save their own pedo Prince.

                            • -1

@Hausmaus: The 'family' will do what they want to do, and use their money to do so. That they earn some of their income from the British taxpayer is of no relevance to us here, or to this bargain.
People can choose if they want to request a free print. As with most bargains here, if you don't like it, just move on and don't partake.
I really don't see the need for a neg vote.

  • +11

Sorry I don't think we should be supporting this, reasons are self-explanatory

    • …I don't think we should be supporting this…

Do you mean it shouldn't be free?
Or that we shouldn't order one?

      • +3

My opinion of course - is that anything showing the queen and the monarchy as a "not bad thing" is bad

        • -1

Just this Queen and Monarchy, or all Monarchies?

          • +3

@GG57: any royal family with too much power

            • @TwentyTwoCarats: Ok, but this particular royal family only has notional "power" in our country.

              • +6

@GG57: You are missing my point - the history of this royal family is littered with human atrocities, so even if in today's context within Australia it doesn't seem too bad, the fact that we do not acknowledge the appalling acts of the past and continue to live in this system means we haven't gotten anywhere

                • @TwentyTwoCarats: Ok, that is a broader explanation. Not sure why it took so long to get to that.

  • +3

Here’s some deals on portraits of the Thai and Saudi Kings..

In case you are interested in portraits of more monarchs that have very little relevance to modern Australia

    https://wikipparel.com/maha-vajiralongkorn-poster/

    https://www.redbubble.com/i/poster/King-of-Saudi-Arabia-by-G…

    • +1

      Not free no deal!

      • This isn’t free either. We’re all paying for this pointless garbage.

        • Someone pays for everything that is free.

    • +1

Lol, I never knew there was a website that sells printouts of Wikipedia articles

  • Looks good with a pair of googly eyes slapped on.

  • +1

I'm on the Gold Coast and just received confirmation I can pick up:
    Good afternoon Sir Transit.
Thank you for your email and request of a portrait of Her Majesty.
You can collect a portrait of the Queen and Prince Philip from the electorate office – 47 Watts Drive Varsity Lakes. We are here from 8.30am-5pm.

  • +5

Guyz don't forget its because of this lovely lady we are getting a day off :D

    • It’s going to rain

  • +2

No thanks… Not the woman who's family plundered, raped, killed, starved, slaughtered, and ruined the economy of my country for nearly hundred years. Take your pot of poo somewhere else.

    • +10

      how has she done that?

      facts, not feels.

      was it a tweet?

    • +9

Some of her ancestors slaughtered some of my ancestors and plundered my country … until one of her ancestors died. Then one of my ancestors, who was related to one of her ancestors took over the crown and became one of her ancestors. I'm part furious and part proud.

    • +1

I don't have a problem with some of your statement, but am intrigued by the reference to ruining "…the economy of my country for nearly hundred years".

      Can you expand on that?

    • +3

      Scottish?

    • +2

I think you will find that the British created the economy of Australia over two hundred years ago

      • +2

So if China has singlehandedly boosted the Australian economy for the better part of the last two decades, we have to put the portrait of the China King here? What kind of nonsense are you saying?

        • +3

Well, the person I replied to was apparently suggesting the the British destroyed the economy of Australia 100 years ago (around 1922) which is hard to fathom, so I was pointing out that the British technically created the economy 235 years ago, as we would understand it the term today. Nothing about portraits, just an answer about the economy.

          • +3

@King Tightarse: You must be living under a rock. The British ruled India for 100 years.. Read about the Jalianwala massacare, families weren't allowed to even bury their people for seven days. Least the Queen could do is publicly apologise to the State and the country. India was known as the golden bird. The queen's family let the army commit atrocities against Indians and tax people for farming their own land.

            • +3

@BrownManWalking: Oh my apologies, I assumed you were referring to Australia when you said "my country". Your 100 years ago reference makes more sense now.

        • +1

You don't have to put a portrait of anyone, anywhere.
          That is the nonsense.

BTW, I'm pretty sure China does not have a king.

    • -1

And that is reason for a negative vote?

    • +3

You don’t have to take it

  • +2

Free is free. I am yet to see a compelling comment from a downvoter so far explaining how this is not a genuine deal, so it appears so far 18 people who downvoted are doing so against the Ozbargain Voting Guidelines https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

    • I agree, but it appears that they would have to use the specific phrases verbatim for moderators to revoke the votes.
Somehow the comment "Not interested" is ok, but "No Thanks" is not ok.
      ?

  • Not actually true. MPs can order the tat if they choose to but you are not entitled to it.

  • +5

I politely asked my MP (Labor) for an Australian flag a couple of years back and he totally ignored me. Didn't even get a response. He did add my email address to his advertising mailing list though…

  • +1

Hello cheeky. You is much fitter than you look on them coins. Me tell ya next time me put a 50 Pence piece in my pocket, me feel honoured having your head so close to me nuts.

  • +2

The current Queen is honourable and gracious but not her clownish grandson/daughter-in-law .. once she is gone then no way Australia should have these clowns as head of state!!

    • +1

I'm intrigued; why do you think that Prince William, and his wife, are "clownish"?

      • +2

Think he's referring to the pedophile Prince who was saved from prison by his mummy millions.

        • Prince Andrew who tactically got covid during the jubilee meaning he was unable to attend? Perfect damage control

        • No, they specifically referred to the Queen's grandson / daughter-in-law. I'm not sure how those two individuals are grouped together, or which grandson they are referring to, or which daughter-in-law.

  • +1

Somebody please order one of these from Lydia Thorpe's office, I'm sure she would love the honour of handing these out.

  • +3

    WTF?

    • -2

Is this a valid reason for a negative vote?

  • +3

Charles needs to immediate abdicate for the royals to have any chance of surviving this century

  • +1

    Get a life !

    • +1

Says the one getting upset about a portrait lol

  • I think i just threw up in my mouth reading this post.

    • +2

Yeah the thought of the royal family committing genocides of native peoples during colonisation or the Queen paying millions to let a pedophile Prince off the hook tends to do that to people with a moral compass.

      • But you are on a bargain site. If you don't like a bargain for some reason, just move on.
That is what I do with Harvey Norman bargains.

  • +2

Up-voting this "deal" because the stacks-on down-voting is as stupid as the "deal" itself. OzB is such sh!tshow at times.

  • +5

The Queen should've made Andrew front up to the US investigation into him.

    • No idea what that has to do with this deal.

  • +3

shut it people! if its free you take it! thats the ozbargain way!

  • +1

Time to frame this in my bathroom, ty OP

  • +3

    So are we the peasants/slaves?

  • +1

I refuse to acknowledge the new MP in my electorate, so I'm not sure how I could obtain this…

  • +1

So now every true Oz Bargainer has a portrait of the Queen in their home

  • +5

What a waste of tax payers money

    • +3

Printing a few dozen A2 portraits is nothing compared to how much money gets wasted by politicians these days. I get it, we hate the queen but don't pretend this is costing thousands of dollars

      • Exactly, people are just making up reasons to try to justify their neg vote.

        • +1

Lol why are you so worked up about it mate?

          • -1

            @ThadtheChad: I'm not.
As far as I'm concerned, it is a genuine 'bargain' as it is free and all citizens can apply for it.

I've not yet seen one neg vote comment that explains otherwise.

  • +1

    Ca$hrewards or $hopback?

  • Thank Goodness i'm not Australian 😷

  • Here we go 😂

  • +1

Any way to collect this without interacting with Lord Voldemorts office? I'd love to put some google eyes and frame it up.

  • +1

Australian people are the most hypocrite in the world. They owe their wealth to the British empire.

    • +1

Nah we owe it to China that our economy has been stellar for the better part of two decades, so should we adopt the China King as head of state?

Also the wealth of the British Empire was stolen from the native colonies of Australia, America, India to name a few.

      • China does not have a King.
The leader of China has no part in our government system.

  • +2

So from reading online this seems to be mostly a troll/joke.
MPs can supply nationhood materials if requested , usually things like flags are requested by sporting clubs etc.
Sadly they’re not obliged to send any/every person in Australia a portrait of the queen.

  • +2

I found it very disrespectful to the Queen reading all those jokes here.

  • +2

In a time where we teach children about the virtues of equal opportunity, democracy, and the rule of law (made in a democratic society), we have this antiquated form of government, where to rule, and have all of life's advantages, all you need is to be result of impregnation by the "right" sperm cell.

    • +2

Agreed! And that if your blood is royal the Queen will pay millions to get you off the hook even if you're a pedophile.

      • What does that have to do with the opportunity to get a free print?

        • Free print of the pedophiles mother? Funny how you think people would like that.

          • @Hausmaus: As at just now, this bargain is showing 223 upvotes, and 26 neg votes.
You do whatever you want to do, which I presume is to not avail of the bargain, but others will also do what they want to do, regardless of what you think.

  • +5

Not a deal, the time spent on handling this is also not good way spending the tax.

    • How is "free" not a deal?

  • Will use it to scare folks at my place. Cheers OP.

Not that the Queen is ugly, wrinkly or scary but just that people who step into my toilet will get the fright of their lives when they see her staring back at them!

  • +3

If this is not for you, that's fine move on. if someone shares something here not sure why so many people have to be so rude and negative. It makes me a bit nervous of sharing, last thing I need is to be crucified by an angry mob😬

    • +1

Exactly. Mob mentality kicked in when some saw that others had negged the deal. Easy to neg and post an irrelevant comment when you know others are doing the same.

    • +1

I whole heartedly agree. How dare people have opinions different to my own!
