  • This is tempting! Anyone recommend this as an upgrade from a 5700XT?

    • -1

for gaming sell ur 5700xt now and buy this or 3070.. u wont regret it

    • -1

You should have upgraded at the height of the 2021 madness when miners were buying second hand 5700XTs for 6700XT prices

      • +7

And use what in the mean time?

        • +5

          Intel UHD

        • +7

          Paint brush and canvas

        • There was no shortage in Australia. GPU's have been readily available for over a year, 6700xt's have always been on shelves.

        • The 6700XT because it was a free upgrade after selling the 5700XT

    • +6

I upgraded from 5700XT to 6700XT, but I only did it coz I managed to sell my 5700XT during the crypto peak so essentially it was a ‘free’ upgrade. It’s roughly a 20% performance upgrade. If you’ve waited this long, I’d say wait for the next gen of cards to get a more significant jump. The performance increase isn’t that noticeable during actual gaming.

      • What was the timeframe between selling and buying?

        • Paid around $500 for the 5700XT in 2019, sold it in 2021 for $1000, picked up the 6700XT the day after for the same price. Economics…

    • I would wait if you have a 5700xt for the 7700xt. 5700xt still going strong

  • +7

Will see flood of mining cards by EOY 22

    • +1

Picked up a top end 3080 recently. Probably should have waited but I’m enjoying it now which matters more. Wasn’t a huge price jump after selling a 3060ti

  • +4

Man im tempted, but just scared of catching a falling knife.

    • +5

Haha so many are, which basically guarantees prices will keep falling.

    • +4

Price rise, you hodl, price fall, you hold. Well? Intel UHD, it is.

  • This model or the Asus Dual version? (Was recently on sale at the same price)

    • imo ASUS is the better brand when it comes to graphics cards.

  • +6

God if only competitor pricing would effect 3060ti pricing

    • Waiting for it too.

    • Popular / well performing cards are not falling nearly as much.
US RRP for 6800 xt was $650, 6900 xt was 999. They're often within $100 of each other as 6800 xt was cheap and 6900 xt was overpriced.
3080 is also not falling as fast as it could.

      • Yeah recent MSRP and RRP for GPUs are skewed by however massively inflated the market prices were when the card was released, so they are even more irrelevant than usual.

  • +1

    good card for 2k gaming,

    • +6

It doesn't play games by other publishers?

  • +7

    100% this will go lower

    • +6

      All tech does

  • +3

Second hand market is flooded with super cheap cards already and mining is still around and still profitable. They will probably sell the cards on pallets for 1/4 of the current prices in a few months.
There's no point buying a new card at these prices now.

    • +6

Where are you looking? From what I'm seeing, people are still wanting crazy prices for second hand cards.

      • facts I'm seeing people sell their second hand gpu for prices higher brand new

    • +2

It's questionable whether mining makes a net profit when considering the rapid depreciation of the resale value of the card. A card might mine $1 or $2 a day, but then it's $50 cheaper to buy in a month and another $50 cheaper next month. And that's before the flood of examining cards hit.

    • +1

examples? I'm not seeing this on ebay

      • Ah ebay, where you can buy used PC parts for higher than brand new prices.

But yeah, it's interesting that miners don't seem to be dumping GPUs en mass. Maybe Aussie miners are fewer in number, and not dumping yet because Chinese/Russian/etc miners aren't yet (not realising how much cheaper their electricity is than ours, and not factoring in GPU price depreciation).

  • I currently have a 2080 Super which I use for Flight Sim - it's not too bad but will be looking to upgrade soon. Is this a better card or am I best to wait for something else?

    • +3

i personally would wait at this point, you have a very good card and this won't be a huge leap for you in terms of perfomance in flight sim. Skipping a gen or 2 when you have a high end card already is usually the rule of thumb for me.

    • +1

      no. wait.
I'm going from 2080 to 6800xt as I don't need the nvidea extras and got one cheap.

    • +1

2080S to this, you are talking mere percentages here but without all the other features (decent RT, DLSS etc), so it's very very much not worth it.
Definitely wait for a better card.

The prices seem a bit volatile ATM - I grabbed the Asus Dual OC version of this card @ $535 on-line from U-Mart Friday night after my new B660 board let me know my GTX 1050ti was truly shanked , and was going to post it, but it's gone, and their price on the none-OC model is $799.

For once I was in the right place at the right time. I can finally drive my S3220DFG properly. It doesn't have the winken-blinken Christmas tree effect - which I considered a plus. I didn't spend > $1000 on a new system to watch $5 worth of LEDS twinking…

    For 1440 gaming it's a good card.

    • +2

i would buy 6700xt for 535 eyes closed….. awaiting for that deal to come back

    • +1

      Well done mate!

    • +2

I think that may have been a pricing error.

      • +1

My current GPU was a Umart pricing error. 2060 Super for $480 back when they were around $620, before the crisis. Bless them for continuing to make this mistake, and respect for then still honouring the sale.

    • Jesus, that is a great deal. I would have also pulled the trigger on that.

  • +2

Crypto is shrinking fast, hope used GPUs enters the market sooner than later.

    • does second hand and brand new have much differences like is it worth

      • +1

It depends on your luck. Crypto cards are used a lot. But if its well taken care of (run efficiently and in dust free AC environment) and still in warranty you can still buy them.

But my point is, if there are second hand cards in the market, first hand card prices will drop further faster.

  • +2

Damn, tempting. I settled on looking for a 3070 for the budget I am willing to spend (mostly due to it having 256-bit rather than the 6700's 192-bit), but i'm currently sporting a rather nice 1050Ti (with a 1440p monitor, waste…), so any current gen card will be an upgrade for me, so i'm soooo tempted to just go for this 6700… I don't upgrade often (yeah, i completely skipped the 20xx era), so want to get something that i won't regret upgrading to, in 3 years… Hence the 3070… But this is such a good price! But 192-bit! But such a good price! Gah.

    • I feel you guy. I have decided im going to get something from the EOFY sales because something decent as to land. It seems that the next gen stuff as well as the Intel ARC stuff is also months away and I need a card now.

      • +1

This 6700 for $699 is a good price. I don't want to wait anymore. I've been waiting for years. Enough.
I like AMD, everything else in my kit is AMD (Ryzen, AMD Freesync-capable monitor), so why not add the GFX card eh :-)

        • Im just thinking it may come a little lower in the next few weeks as retailers have stock they need to shift before they devalue too much. Also with inflation and increased interest rates, some people will have less money to spend which dries up potential customers.

          But im just guessing here.

          • +2

@nedski: Yeah, i'd rather get $20 worth of enjoyment in 2 weeks, rather than wait 2 weeks in the hopes of it dropping by $20

            • @DeepwaterNewt: Fair point.

              • @nedski: Whoa OK then. Ordered on 7 June, arrived on 10 June, that's pretty good service there BPCTech. <3
I can finally play Cyberpunk 2077.

                • @DeepwaterNewt: I pulled the trigger on a 6600xt for 434. It's the gigabyte OC model.

It will tide me over until the end of the year where I hope AMD and Nvidia run out their old stock for the new models and I can pick up either a 6900 or a 3090 for under 1k.

            • @DeepwaterNewt: I should add, I have been having some fun with people on ebay who have listed their cards with insane prices and they are accepting offers. I have sent one lowball offer through but I might keep lobbing out the odd one and see if I get lucky.

              I think $400 for a second hand 3060ti is a fair offer.
