  • What’s to stop you topping up on 30% off Apple cards and spending them on the Apple store? Is there a limit they impose?
30% off a new m2 air sounds alright, stacked with education store discount..

    • +1

It's 30% off the Qantas Rewards Store pricing of the gift cards.

Which almost certainly doesn't equal 30% off the dollar value of the gift cards, depending on how much you estimate the QFF points to be worth

      • -1

106k Qantas points for $800 Apple giftcards is not bad.

        • +1

You're preaching to the choir, Ive spent a lot of QFF points on stuff that lots of OzBargainers would lynchmob me for.

Just pointing out to sweatyballs that it's not really 30% off a new m2 Air, depending on your point of reference and how you value points of course

        • Nice :)
I got $750 jbhifi with my 100k points, i dont know how much change I had left.

        • Any good non apple phones cheap phones ( around $400 mark ) in JBHIFI ?

    • they only have $25 cards so you have to get a few.

be better of getting jb hifi or good guys cards (cheaper than apple and available in more denominations) and buy it on sale

edit: or the teen ones illz pointed out below are even better again

      • I dont think the Teen gift cards can be stacked at jb. thats why they are normally cheaper

        • Don't you just convert them to JB? Can someone confirm this isn't an issue as considering buying Teen cards…

  • Do these stack? Like if I bought 1x$500 card from the good guys, can I redeem another $100 one?

  • +9

Teen giftcard is better value than all the rest.

    31,700 points for $250
    1 x $200 (25,340)
    1 x $50 (6,360)

    or 25,340 for $200

Can be used for JB also

    • $250 no longer available

      points for $1000

      $30 for 3830 so 127,667
      $50 6360 so 127,200
      $100 12690 so 126,900
      $200 25340 so 126,700

  • time to spend the 100k points from anz

    • Why not just sell them? Better value.

      • +6

And risk getting ban if they find out. Not worth it.

      • +2

if you can find a buyer? i used to just sell my points but these days who would be buying?

  • Online gift card has ebay.
    13300 for $100

  • eftpos Card is accepted pretty much anywhere at the supermarkets ?

    • +2

I’m assuming you’re referring to the TCN EFTPOS gift card? Those EFTPOS gift cards start with 5021 2510 (like a lot of other EFTPOS gift cards).

TCN EFTPOS gift cards should be accepted at Coles without restriction, as I am not aware of any restrictions they have on EFTPOS gift cards starting with 5021 2510. I previously purchased groceries and gift cards using such EFTPOS gift cards as a payment method without any issues.

TCN EFTPOS gift cards are accepted at Woolworths as a payment method for nearly all items, except for purchases of some gift cards. If you try to purchase a gift card listed on that wiki page and pay for it using such EFTPOS gift cards, the EFTPOS terminal will display an error message.

I’m not sure about ALDI or IGA or other supermarkets, but I doubt there would be any restrictions on using EFTPOS gift cards at those other supermarkets?

I'm surprised at how popular this is despite being poor value compared to redeeming for flights. I guess lots of people out there are earning plenty of free points and prefer not to fly. In that case I suppose redeeming for gift cards is the next best thing.

    • depending on qantas tier, it may be difficult in obtaining classic reward flights

      • Keep hearing people say that. Is it some specific destinations/routes? I have no issue booking reawrd seats. Just booked Tokyo return business. Done 5 canb/syd returns in last 3 months and canb/Hamilton Island all on reward flights and none even required me to be flexible with days, I have Perth and Bali booked for Sept on reward seats as well. Unless you are trying to do school holidays then I have never found it a problem (school holiday rarity is nothing new).

        • How far in advance did you book these business flights?

I read that they release rewards business flights a year in advance and they usually get snapped up as soon as they are released.

          • +1

@zzzman: yeah a lot of the best or most popular routes and holiday flights go as soon as they are released 11 months in advance. But if you aren't flying in holiday periods or the busiest routes then their usually is quite a bit of availability, Japan I booked 9 months in advance, Hamilton island 4 weeks, Sydney 1 week before. Perth 8 weeks. Bali 8 weeks. Even now I can still see some business class award seats to Japan in November near my travel dates.

    • +3

Problem is that flights aren't actually that good value. Qantas service these days is on-par or worse than Jetstar, and even after bags & food the Jetstar fares are rarely much more than just the taxes you pay on a Rewards fare.

Sure, compare to the Qantas flight RRP and the value seems OK (but for outright tickets still less than 2c/pt), but if you'd just booked with Jetstar in the first place (more reliable service) then the points value isn't nearly as good.

Exception is flights to regional destinations which Jetstar don't service.

      • -1

Ummmmm did you just say Jetstar has more reliable service?

        Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

        • +1

Jetstar has a consistent service, ie. none.
Qantas; who knows if you’ll get cheese and crackers for dinner?

          • @muncan: yeah at least with jetstar expectation are already low

        • In my anecdotal experience they've been better, and actually statistically they maintain better technical aircraft reliability and better on time performance.

I did misspeak a little, when I said service I meant on time performance, booking and airport services. Not the actual service on the plane, which I guess is better on Qantas (if getting a small bite of food and a drink is worth paying 300% more for).

          • @nigel deborah: I get ya

Yeah I thought you meant service on the plane because that's just outright terrible.

Someone has to do it but Jetstar and Tiger (RIP) attendants always been like the rejects of the aviation industrial

      • If you're purely flying domestic then agreed…but in that case why collect frequent flyer points in the first place? You're much better off with a rewards cards that lets you get cash out. Churning cards for QFF/VFF points to redeem them on gift cards is never going to be ideal.

  • Can I use HIM cards online for Jb hifi?

    • +1

You convert HIM cards to JB on the TCN website afterwards

      • Oh ok. Can I use the converted JB hifi cards then online? Thanks

        • +1

          Yes

          • @Danstar: How long did it take to receive your HIM digital card via email?

  • +1

Thanks OP almost didn't bother but after recovering my account I had just enough for a $200 teen gift card with JB included for 25,340 points.

Also my points were about to expire in a few days!

    • +6

it's been 18 months since you earned or spent any? you can earn points just by installing
the qantas health app on your phone. hardly any, but enough to stop the rest expiring.

      https://help.qantas.com/support/s/article/Qantas-Points-Expi…

      • Do you need to be a qantas health insurance member to get points on the qantas health app?

      • Oh okay, I used to work FIFO but haven't in like you said about 18 months 😁

        • Aren't you getting regular points from your credit cards and Woolworths shopping ?

They only expire if you don't earn any over the 18 months, and that's pretty difficult !

          • @Nom: Don't have credit cards and don't shop at woollies. I even forgot about my Qantas points until I seen the post so I owe OP a beer

            • +4

@the cringe: I’ll be in Melbourne city tomorrow ;)

              • @Danstar: That's a bit far from Perth, might be a bit warm by the time it gets there!

  • Note that the TCN digital cards are not instant delivery. I have bought some and have started the waiting game.

    • Thanks for that. How about the JB ones, are they immediate?

      • Conversion was instant

        • Took about 2 hours to het the gift card from Qantas, and about 10 minutes to convert in my case

    • +1

They arrived! It took 1hr and 10mins.

      • A bit over 2 hours and still waiting for mine thanks for the heads up though

        • Still haven't received it

          • @the cringe: Received your Teen card yet? I'm still waiting since Friday.

            • +1

@Booster: I had to call them twice, once to update my security details then once again after they sent me an email confirming the order which was quite annoying. Ended up getting it a couple hours after the 2nd call

Edit - annoying because I had to repeat myself

    • +1

Also confirm it was easy to convert to a digital JB gift card. It gives you the option to use in store or online. I selected online and converted to a $200 JB digital card. When I received this one, it can be used in store and online. Easy.

      • +1

Can you use the JB giftcards to buy itunes giftcards?

    • Mine is still processing from last night.

  • Anyone know if JB accepts multiple gift cards? Looking at using 5-6 cards

    • +2

rang my local, and they said they do accept multiple.. wonder if they will reconsider when i walk in with 12 $200 gift cards!

    • +1

I have used 5 gifts cards to buy a phone. No issue. Just holds up the line a little and receipt is about 1m long

  • +5

For those who might be wondering, transferring your Amex points to Qantas points and spending them on 30% discounted gift cards is still worse value than purchasing non-discounted gift cards (or using your Amex points on a statement credit) directly from Amex.

    • lol yeah you're combining 2 not great ideas so no surprise ( amex to qantas and qantas to gift cards)

  • +3

A $200 teen gift card with JB included for 25,340 points is the best QFF gift card deal in ages.

The gift card is worth $190 because you can always get JB Hi Fi for 5% off.

Works out to be 0.75c per point. Which is not too bad, and would actually beat some flight redemptions.

    • What do you mean 5% off? Is it not a straight swap?
Nvm. I understand, you can normally get them for 5% off, so not really worth $200…

  • Struggling to find a decent use for my QFF these days. Converting for $550 worth of online gift cards at (~73,300) and spending it on a Bambino Plus seems like an alright deal to me…

  • Can only the Apple gift card be used in the Apple store?
    or are there other alternatives?

    • The main alternative is with the ATO. Tax time is coming up.

  • Such as?

  • -1

Twitch gift card! Is this for simping over Amoranth?

    • just any tub streamers tbh

      • Thanks, you just reminded me of 2001-02 🛀

        • world economy is heading to the 2001 n 2002 level..
2001 is goin to be cool again

  • $1000 to spend at JB or a business class flight to London, hmm let me think…

    • Take the $1000 to spend at JB, and fly to London economy for $500 🤷🏼‍♂️

The business class flight is only the better option if you were actually going to buy that flight anyway… If you just want to get to London, then you can do so for much less than $1000…

  • Bit off-topic but I let my points expire again because there was nothing for me to spend Qantas points in the last 2+ years… any chance I can get them re-instated somehow?

    • +1

      Do you know Marty Mcfly?

    • Send Joycey an email and ask

    • +2

Yes, if you like jumping through hoops?

As a preventative measure for the future - if there are 2 of you, open 2 BankWest Qantas accounts, put $100 in each and set a daily transfer of $100 between each of them. Then you can forget about them, and your 2 Qantas accounts will forever stay active with both earning about 9 points/month, and you get to keep someone at BankWest in a job periodically reviewing your questionable transfers/points. The $100 daily transfers avoid you the monthly fee. Your statements will look fantastic, like mine. Ha!

      • Darn, it's been close to 2 years since my points expired so I guess I'd need major luck to win them back
Thanks for the Bankwest tip though, looks like a good way to deal with Qantas' piss-poor policies

    • Obviously too late for you in this case, but points don't expire if you earn more points. You can always use the Qantas Wellbeing app to earn a few free points once a year or so.

  • Won't let me buy

    • +1

I check this again, the 'add to cart' is greyed out until you put an email address in, then it seems to work.

  • Hi there,
Does anyone know how long the Baby Gift Card will take to receive? Many thanks x

    • i'm waiting since last night, called customer support this morning and said need to verify my account, and let me wait another 1-2 days

      • Hey! Just to let you know - mine just came through =).
