    Great price!

    • $150 min spend though

  • Worth upgrading from xbox one s?

      Most def

I'd say so, if you don't mind the lack of a disc drive

    • +4

I would advice against it tbh. series s is mostly targetted for 1440p or below resolution and it's entirely disc less system. Given current generation titles are compatible with one s I'd much rather keep using it until series s is available with a 1Tb internal ssd.
For the time being I would happily upgrade one s's internal hdd to a ssd or add a ssd/ nvme drive as external disc to improve loading times which can then be used with series s/x as archival drive.

This is just my opinion and what I would do, YMMV. Happy gaming :)

If you have Gamepass and want a spare console for another room, this is great.

    • Honestly, nah.

I have an X, and S. And I love them both, and recommend both.

I also have a One S in the kiddo's end of the house. It does the same stuff for the most part.

Sure, it takes a while longer to load games. Sure, it's not as pretty at times. Sure, there's no Quick Resume. Sure, I can't emulate anything harder than like PSP or PS1.

Buuuut, it still plays every Xbox One, 360, and OG game perfectly fine. And as you've got the One S like mine, it can stream content in 4K which makes it feel a shitload more modern than a standard One or PS4 on a newer tele.

Is the Series S worth 400 bucks? Sure, sure, absolutely. Do you need to though? Nah. That being said though, I would honestly say the exact same thing about the Series X. So what I'm really saying is, the One S should do you fine until there's enough games to justify jumping into next gen.

    Solid deal there.

    Really a no brainer price

  • +2

In my opinion, still better get XSX, as expansion card cost $349 (the storage in this one is only about 300gb free space) and that will make it still more expensive than XSX ($734 in costco) and less powerful

I've got an X and an S (for the kids). The S is amazing, especially at this price. Perfect for fortnite, fall guys, halo, rocket league…

    • I had series s and swaitched it to series x.

      Both are great devices.

But since I travel a lot, I prefer series s as it is very light and small so that I can put it in my backpack.

You're right but bear in mind that you don't have to download the games off GP to play them.

      They stream very well.

      • +1

To stream you dont even need XSS, just a mobile phone (Android, not sure iOS)

        • -2

Yes good point but I have a xsx in my lounge room and a series s in my home office.

It works great for me as a second console.

    • 364gb is available. I'm not being a fanboy bitch, but the PS5 we have only has around 600gb available, and is a real (profanity) in how it double up installs on games, making it a real hassle at time.

But 364gb is fine for most situations tbh. We have 40 odd games (and half a dozen GameCube games too) on the bedroom one, with 40/50 odd gig still to spare. Just Cause 3, GTA 3/4/VC/SA, few Star Wars games, and plenty more.

Can always get a 256GB USB for around 25/30 bucks on sale and use that, or a larger hard drive if needed. Xbox One, 360, and OG games will load off it fine, or you can move stuff back and forth if you prefer, either way, you don't need their expensive ass expansion as all but current gen exclusives (of which there aren't a shitload) will run fine off a USB.

thanks OP. I'm considering the downgrade from xbox x series, just dont need the power (I'm rubbish at flight sim) but could use the cash. Any thoughts?

How long is the delivery from MS normally?

    • -4

      499 is the actual price.

  • If anyone isn't too fussy on condition and is keen on the console. Amazon AU / Amazon Warehouse has a "Used Acceptable - Large mark on disk"
    for $351.77. Link

    • "large mark on disk" and you lose the manufacturer's warranty.

      • +4

what does 'large mark on disk' even mean? isn't it a digital console?

  • +5

    Good little emulation box too

    • Can this emu ps3 or switch?

      • No chance. Gamecube and some PS2.

It's still very impressive though, not knocking it.

This is it worth it just for emulation. A fork of PCSX2 has now been ported to the Xbox in retail mode and performance is excellent! Couple this with Retroarch and PPSSPP you've got pretty much every system covered upto Nintendo Wii.

    • I clocked the Scarface game on PS2 on my XSX about 5 months ago. Wanted to replay it for years, but I threw the PS2 away forever ago and it's one of like 3 games I have on PS2 that don't play well on the back compat PS3 I have, was an absolute joy to burn through it again via Retro Arch. Still holds up, but definitely not as great as I thought in the day.

  • I have one I use for travel, it’s so small and compact and easy to cart around. Perfect for game pass, can be annoying when you have a disc game because you just can’t play it. If it’s going to be your main console I’d recommend the X. If not, the S is a handy little unit.

When you realise how little space this has, and how much the additional storage add one cost, you will wish you just bought the series X. Literally everyone I know with this is either frustrated with the space, and has upgraded or wants to upgrade.

    • +1

The game sizes can be smaller on Xbox Series S. For example, Fortnite is about 30% smaller, but Forza Horizon 5 is the same size.

Also you can play games via cloud gaming, which won't use any storage at all.

      • Was cloud gaming laggy for everyone or did i just have a bad run?

        • +1

I just gave it a go yesterday on my Series X, had no issues. Have used it previously on mobile/tablet, and similarly had no issues most of the time, although there has been some slow down

        • Cloud gaming will suck in Australia forever until our internet is up to scratch.

  • +2

Worth getting when I already have a PS5. Haven't had an Xbox since the 360.

  • OOS xbox😥

  • worth upgrade to series S from Xbox One X? not sure if it's an upgrade though

  • just started playing on a Series S and I've noticed blurry textures and laggy menus, is this a hardware or software issue. does the Series X offer perform better or is this just the typical experience on a latest gen console?

    • +1

      X much better

  • My order got cancelled 🤬

    • Mine hasn't even been sent out :(

  • Has anyone’s order been shipped out yet?
I tried to cancel my order but they said it was too late, yet it hasn’t even been sent out after 3 days.

  • I messaged asking for an update, a few hours later my order was cancelled
