  • Hey @farque one quick question. One of my friend came on international student visa. His visa got expired so he applied new student visa. Until he receives the decision, he is on bridging visa.

Is he eligible for $49 optus plan?

    • Nope

  • +1

Is it worth upgrading my Huawei P30 Pro to Samsung Galaxy S22?

  • So im on optus prepaid $180 plan just a couple of months in,what can I do?

    • +2

Buy phone on $49 pen then cancel said plan.

Use your optus prepaid sim card in new phone.

  • Hi!!. I do have postpaid $55 plan with my friend which have two numbers in a one plan that totally cost $110. Am I eligible for this deal?

    • Get a new number on this plan

  • Maybe I'm dumb but I can't see how to get this deal on the website. Do I need to go in-store?

  • Collected and cancelled.
    HN salesperson confirmed my plan.
Plenty of stock in Perth it seems.

  • This or the pixel 7?

    • +2

      I would pick pixel 7

      • Newer - released 13/10
      • Vanilla android
      • Longer software and security updates
      • Better battery

If you are considering the P7Pro

      • Thanks. Looking at the 7. Not pro. Via the jb offer. Still better. 7 vs 22?

        • +1

All the points from my comment still stands for 7.

          • @CodeXD: Thank you. I just went to jb. S22 looks better but going to do some more research on them both before deciding.

    • +1

      I'm planning to do this:

Get the phone with included phone plan.
Trade in to jbhifi for $500 +$300 bonus.
      Pay $200 for pixel 7
Get $100 gift card JB, chromecast $80 and nest $80.

Basically get a pixel 7 with a 24 months phone plan an get an extra $60 off

      • Not sure this is the best deal since you're stuck on optus for $49 per month for 24 months $1176 on top all the messing around.

      • +1

Or just use a JB/Telstra phone deal, or plan with bonus gift card promo (when one pops up) to save yourself the headache?

  • I'm wondering if there will be a similar deal for iPhone. I don't want to risk it and have to do another credit check.

    • +4
      How do you milk sheep?

Bring out a new iPhone and charge $2,000 for it.

      • +3

I am and have been an OG Android guy. The iPhone is for the missus

        • +1

All good mate, I just wanted to post it… :)

  • Has anyone got the bill for early termination?

    • Still no bill for me. I believe I was the first person to get this deal. In less than an hour it will be a full week since I cancelled my service.

      • It probably won't be sent out until the next billing cycle.
I doubt they're morons, they are running a business.. There's no cooling off period so you will get an invoice.

    • Back in 2020 using the ETC loophole on the S20 FE, Telstra sent out the bill after 15 days at the end of the month so I'd expect it in the near future. I believe it becomes part of the standard monthly plan billing cycle.

  • Are the s22 phones unlocked or locked?

    • It's unlocked, the sales guy told me that they haven't locked phones for years apparently.

      • Ok thanks

      • Have you actually got one? Someone says the plan is restricted to 4G even though the phone is 5G capable. Didnt know that is possible.

  • Does this plan cancellation method work with any other phones?

  • Kicking myself….

I don't normally ever spend at HN, so didn't look for it at the time, but just saw I could have saved another 6% on gift cards through Perkbox and another $24 saved on the $400 for the S22+/256 purchase.

    Damn you Gerry

    • Actually, only some HN will accept upgrade to s22+

  • For those who took up this deal, was there a receipt generated?

    • +1

Yes - $0 all up with plan details on there.

      • Thanks. Gerry forgot to give me a receipt. All they gave me was the Optus plan details

      • I am quite interested on this deal. But did I read somewhere, it's a 4G phone plan, although the phone itself is 5G capable?

        • No, Optus has 5G. I always recommend long-expiry plans over the big three's expensive monthly plans, so I'd only make use of this promotion if you want the S22 for $588 (or really need the Optus plan in which case the free phone is a great bonus).

          • @Techie4066: Someone posted this doc on this thread:

            https://hndgwww2.azureedge.net/gpa/hnau/optus/20220221/CIS-4…

It seems that the plan or sim itself is restricted to 4G

            • @hiancc: Wow that is incredibly stingy

            • +1

@hiancc: can confirm it is 5G even though documentation says 4G. Purchased a few days ago and cancelled

              • @tee cee: I've just been to HN. At first the guy said it was 5G. Then his colleague rang up Optus to confirm and it only 4G. They we both surprised. If you cancelled, how do you know it's 5G. Did you used the sim card before cancellation.

The Z-flip and Pixel 7 Pro phone deals are 5G for $0 and $69 pm

                • +1

@hiancc: yes used it for a few hours by the time cancellation came through.

                  • @tee cee: Ok, thanks. Maybe it's just a marketing thing and they need to distinguish the deals and push people towards the $69 plans.

                    • @hiancc: If that's the case, Optus is looking down the barrel of yet more fines (they can't lie on the CIS).

        • +1

Ive had it a week and can confirm it is 5G

  • Thanks, got an S22 today for the wife.

  • Is this a good deal? $1188 termination Fees. Can we cancel plan after 1 day?
$1000 gift card. Looking for iPhone 14 Pro. So balance $749 can be paid with card.
Will the receipt show full amount for claim for TRS as this will be a gift?

Is it better off buying with 10% gift cards or this Harvey Norman deal?

    • +3

      You're kidding right?

You pay $1188 in fees for $1000 gift card.

  • Checked at Harvey Norman Domayane store and they said it’s either S22 phone free or $450 gift card. Not both.
    Is this true?

    • +2

Nowhere in this deal does it say it's offering a $450 gift card….

      • It was mentioned in the comments

      • -4

There were some discussions hinting towards this, but anyways I confirmed with the store today. Its either S22 free or $450 gift card. Not a deal for me in that case.

        • +5

lol are you serious? You wanted free phone AND the $450 gift card? ahaha

    • Yes, you can either choose from free S22 phone or $450 gift card on the optus $49 plan.

Phone is easily worth more than $450.

  • Apparently you can't cancel via live chat anymore? Anyone have a similar experience?

    • +1

I could cancel last night on live chat but I initially was refused to cancel when I rang them during the day yesterday. Optus claimed that it was HN to deal with even after I argued that the contract is with Optus and not HN. When I rang HN, they said to try ringing Optus again and try another person as HN don't do cancellation.

    • I cancelled mine successfully yesterday via live chat. Now it’s the waiting game for the Optus bill

    • +1

I was initially refused too on chat, and was asked to contact HN, however, I simply told the rep that I already called the store, and they told me that only Optus can cancel the service, and then the rep did the cancellation.

      • I was denied twice on chat today. Both reps told me that they don't have the option to cancel the services and to call 133 937. Will try chat again tomorrow before I call them.

        • +3

Just port out to Boost sim.

        • +1

Simply buy any non-Optus network operator $2 SIM and port out. Your number will automatically get cancelled.

  • Does this only work for the 128GB version?

    • +1

Depends on your local store if they would ask you to pay the difference

  • I have received the initial bill of $49 on the same day i signed up the plan, but didn't paid, few days after cancelled the service via chat and the rep said i have to pay $563 of termination fee. Waiting for the bill. I think i have to pay $49 and the $563, total of $612, let's see.

    • why do you get charged an initial bill of $49? shouldn't it be pro-rated?

    • $563 seems wrong too. The bill should be ($49x24/2)=$588 + $49 pro-rated

      • +3

If they got slapped with the $49 bill for first month, then it should be $49x23/2

Your calculation counts the first month twice.

      • the extra $5 would be the pro-rated costs since he only cancelled a few days later

        • +2

          There is no extra $5.

They got $49 bill first month, so cancellation is calculated as:

          $49x23/2 = $563.5

  • Does anyone know what happens if you have an issue with the phone down the track and require a refund? Since the "cost" of the phone is $0…

    • Harvey Norman will be up to fix and/or replace it.

    • +3

Keep HN receipt as you'll need it for warranty purposes/proof of purchase. Just because the receipt says $0 doesn't mean they won't help you. They won't help you cos it's Harvey Norman XD

      • They'll probably ask u to go to Samsung directly, then Samsung said it's HN :)

  • Got this today, can't speak for others but I am not getting any 5g (despite being in the middle of Sydney City)

  • Still no bill and account telling me to expect only a $12.50 payment due for the free tab. 🤞10 days to go.

    • I cancelled immediately after purchase. No bill sent and service terminated immediately.
Optus guy said I'll get the cancellation fee "in regular billing period" so assuming they'll charge a full month's service.

  • +1

They have the same deal back but with s21 fe 5g https://ibb.co/b5hQgGG

    • Someone feel free to post it.

    Got my bill today. $623.93

I got onto the chat and questioned the price. The $588 was correct, that's the ETC, but they charged mr for $49/month from 6th through to the 28th Oct.
I couldn't work that out at all. Not how they got the price or even why. They couldn't either. And couldn't explain it, just kept saying it's the ETC charge. I tried to argue the cut off date/cancellation date. They either didn't understand or wouldn't listen. Not even when I explained I cancelled the very same day I got the contract. Why I was charged till the 28th, (which happened to be when the bill is due, for the Optus tablet from earlier this year, which was billed monthly at a date that I once had an account with Optus many years ago). Anyway, I was questioned why I cancelled the service. Very unhelpful and now I have a $623.93 bill and going to try again later to get someone better on the chat. At least see if they drop this extra spurious charge

    • I got same amount, chatted on app, the guy was useless and kept asking why cancel, I told him you only need to focus on my question instead of others, or I will file TIO for overcharge, then he fixed the bill in 5 mins.

      • Same amount? $623.93. seems such an odd figure.
I had the same kind of discussion. Wouldn't listen at all.
Did you end up just paying the $588?

        • Yes, activated and cancelled on 7/10, got charged for 7/10-28/10.

    • Got charged $602.70 for 20/10 to 28/10 even though I activated and cancelled on the 20th. Wasn't able to resolve it through chat but I got the $14.70 waived after calling.

      • What did you say over the phone to get them to waive the fee, trying to do the same by chat currently.

        • Just that I was overcharged and only had the service one day

  • Anyone still not received their bill?

    • I haven't received my bill yet (never had a Optus month to month plan)
Gf got bill on the 28th (billing date on her plan)

  • No bill yet. Should be due today but showing nothing

    • Spoke too soon. $1251.14 bill for two phones, $625.57 each (+ $100 for a 256gb upgrade). Thanks again OzBargain.

      • Im guessing it was emailed to you?

        • Yep. Yesterday was the start of our billing cycle for the Tab A8 deal. Would have loved free phones but very happy with the end result.

  • Received my bill today for $613.29. Called Optus and they removed the usage period from 17/10-01/11, even though I cancelled on 17/10

  • Alrighty, bad news is I received the bill and got whacked an extra $34.30 for 'Monthly charge and credits between 09 Oct to 29 Oct' even though I bought the service on 9 Oct and cancelled on 10 Oct.

Good news is the Early Termination Fee only came to $563.50 and I managed to get a $34.30 credit very easily via the web chat.

Thanks OP, it was a great ride!
