      • Main Samsung store with newsletter code ($50) + loyalty code ($100) + trade in bonus and $50 for trading in my S10e.

        • Is the newsletter code and loyalty code still available this year? I was under the impression these haven't been happening this year.

        • if you don't count the $50 from the S10e, then the OP deal is still better. great it works for you though.

        • +1

Back in July the JBHifi trade-in had this phone (S22 128GB) down to $549. So the OP deal is a reasonable price but not amazing yet.

          • @CoronavirusVaccine: Yep but when you add sim plan thinking this deal is still better

            • @Jono258: Not quite - if you stay on the plan you'll end up paying 24 x $49 = $1,176 for the life of the plan…

              • @pigmyfart: Thanks. Yes agreed pretty close. Need international calls so leaning towards amaysim 12 month plans

  • what do you need to take instore to sign up? 100 points ID etc?

    • +3

      Licence and Medicare.

  • Anyone had any luck with gift cards?

HN Said either get the phone for free or the gift card.

    • how much is the gift card?

      • $450 gift card is no where near the value of Samsung S22.

  • @farque thanks for all your help, one last question, if i keep the plan for lets say 12 months, would that reduce the cancellation fee to $0?
Because it's a 24 month plan i guess it reduces the cancellation fee by $20?

    • +3

Pretty sure farque had left the building but he previously stated it would be $294 cancellation after 12 months

      • Thank you, i thought that was the case but couldn't find it in the comments.

    • +3

It's half the remaining plan cost from whenever you cancel i think.

      • Can confirm this is what I read when accepting the contract.

  • Are these in any way network locked?

    Or Optus branded?

Sorry it's been so long since I didn't but outright phones

  • What a great deal!

Shame I am overseas and they may run out of stock by the time I get back.

    • +1

Always handy to call in some favours

    • +1

More stock coming next week and we will take back orders.

  • +2

All done. Signed up in store and then cancelled over the phone. Paid an extra $100 for the 256gb and they would not allow an upgrade to the s22+ unfortunately. Can't win them all.

Once I have paid the ETC I will contact HN and tell them I have changed my mind about the phone and ask to upgrade to the S22+. I have not opened my box. Will let you know how it goes.

Almost tempted to do it again. Thank you Ozbaragin and @farque

  • +2

Just picked up an S22+ 128gb for the $300 difference in price. Thanks @farque

    • Nice. No ultra?

      • They had the Ultra, and were willing to let me get that but I opted for the S22+. I'll grab a copy of the receipt now, just give me 5-10min.
edit Just saw the request for the receipt was removed. Should I not post it? Not allowed?

        • How much more for the ultra?

        • My store says no upgrade to S22+ or Ultra but can upgrade to 256Gb for $100 upfront 😮‍💨

          • +3

            @lionh3art: Back like John Farnham!!

Its most def only the s22 128 or 256

            Not the + or Ultra's

This store just lost about $800 approx….

Any store knowing what they are doing will say no to this.

            kthnxbye

    • +1

Bugger, my store said no. What store was that?

      • +1

        Ipswich, QLD

  • Does anyone know if JB with their Telstra plans would match this? Obviously they offer the same(ish) plans, but wondering if they'd work in the S22/Flip4?

    • No since different carriers different deal. Optus need to pick up subscribers for the pending migration.

  • Had no issue getting the deal and cancelled with optus immediately

    • You called up or done through chat?

      • Called up. Had to insert the sim so they could send me a verification text

        • what's the process of Cancellation and what about the fees? How much are we paying in total after cancellation? Thanks

  • Thanks Op. Picked up and cancelled as soon as I got home via chat. Cancellation via chat took ages sending a msg and waiting for a response while I continued WFH. All up the chat took a couple of hours and way longer than the sign up process in store.

    • All up the chat took a couple of hours

Wow they must still be deluged dealing with the data leak stuff then, seems like for once it would've been faster to call, usually seems to be the other way around.

  • +1

Cheers OP wife just signed up.

  • I am connected through 5G network with VoLTE for anyone asking. Just ported my number today. If you have optus mobile data only account, confirming your identity will be easier.

  • S22+ 246,extra $400
    ETC $588
    $988
Might go for that I think…..

Much of an upgrade from S21 256.??

  • +2

Thanks OP. Sign up took 45 minutes in HN store. Cancelled via chat 4 hours later which took 22 minutes.

    Upgrading from S10.

    • Ive got s10 how is the new phone?

    • I actually want to keep the phone but can you upgrade to 5G? The s22 is 5G capable right?

    • What's the cancellation fee? Thanks

    • What's the cancellation fee? Do they do credit checks?

      • +1

Half of the remaining plan cost, and yes.

  • To everyone cancelling what sim plan have you got?

    • +2

      I have boost 280gb for 365 days.

      • Thank you

    • TPG 25GB for $20/mnth. I'm glued to a desktop so don't even use near that.

  • -1

May be stupid question…so in the end you get phone for $588…or you else get some HN gift cards???

  • +2

HN guy tried telling me I can't cancel within first two months
Said its not allowed by HN to cancel and Optus.
    Okkkk, let's see

    • +4

HN guy told me that too.
Anyway, so I cancelled my optus contract and went on my day.

      • Currently on the can't, sitting in car, outside the shop ATM

        Optus chat is slow tonight

  • Any idea what the take is on S22+?

    • Just got the S22+ 256gb, for $400

      Upgrading from S21, 256

      • Hey mate,
Did you get it on this plan?

So (if you decide to cancel the plan) you'd have paid $400+$588 (etc) = $988?

Probably not worth it if going to cancel the plan, but worth it if you're keeping the number

        • Correct

Extra $400 for the plus and 256

        • $988 for Samsung s21+ 256gb is a great deal.

          • @CodeXD: (S22+ 256)

          • +4

@CodeXD: Not really, you can get it for $1050ish on samsung edu store website. Less of a hassle.

            • @Midcrown: Picked up today. Already set up..
Paid $400 to Gerry on card.
Confirmed with Optus cancelled and $588 to be billed later.

              Easy as.

              • @Spending2Much: I'm just saying its not worth the $60 saving (to me) for the time i need to spend.
Plus i'm sure i can find a $50 discount code on SS website and get it roughly the same price without going through the hassle and doing a credit check.

            • +1

              @Midcrown: $1084.30 is for S22+ 128gb they got the 256gb for under $1k.

  • So they ran out of stock of my phone and are ordering it in. My sim is active now though. The question is do I wait to have the phone in my hands (should be next week) and then cancel or cancel now? And does it even make a difference or as long as it's within the month it's the same result?

    • Did you ask online chat if they will charge you for one month service, (since activated now) or is it pro rata, or is it included in the $588

      • Haven't spoken to Optus yet but just received the first bill for $49 this morning. Maybe should have cancelled straight away but didn't want to risk HN not handing over the phone next week because I cancelled the contract

  • +1

Will your credit score affected if you cancel the plan?
    Seems nobody care about that.

  • +1

The one already did, do we get proper tax invoice for the phone itself with GST, for the TRS/warranty purpose? If yes, what’s the purchase price on it? Thanks

    • Same question

    • +4

See Jayblesz's comment above - $0 receipt plus anything you paid extra

      • That's a bummer if invoice is $0

  • Having stung Optus on the S8 deal, and they already having my data to share, signing up took less than 30 mins.

Just cancelled two services. Phone chat was very helpful.

Paid $99 to Gerry, awaiting a bill for $1176 from Optus, now own an S22 256Gb and an S22 128GB. Teen sons will pay half and have great phones, hopefully for a few years.

    @farque - FYI

I just got advised of an amazing hack by the Harvey Norman guy as Optus spruik 100% network coverage - if you could demonstrate that you didn't have coverage anywhere in Australia (which I double-checked with the guy, "what, like in the middle of the Simpson desert???" and he confirmed, ANYWHERE) you are eligible to cancel without paying any early contract termination fee, so in this case waiving the $588. Now he disclaimed he didn't know how you go about proving it, but there must be a way that this is written into their T&C's… Heard of this?

    • This is amazing. I don't get any reception in my apartment ahaha

      • Exactly, how hard could this be to find? However proving it is probably another matter - this it's their word against yours, they will no doubt say that they have coverage at the place you claim doesn't, then prove it by going out there with a kilometre-wide satellite dish to pick up the smallest of signals, then blame something like your phone…

    • +2

Maybe he was thinking of the Optus Coverage Commitment ?

      https://www.optus.com.au/for-you/support/answer?id=8475

      • That looks like it! Thanks for the link…

        • Wouldn't they just compare your sign up contract address with their coverage map and contradict any claims you try to make about having 0 signal (even for legitimate ones like the apartment example above)? I guess it's really up to the agent you're speaking with and how invested they are lol.

          • +1

@johnjones8: …yeah, this is what I meant above when I said it's their word against yours, and they probably have some sort of clause protecting themselves against those cases where people have lined their apartments in tinfoil or live in a nuclear bunker beneath 2km of concrete. I went through this with Vodafone about 12 years ago (right around the time of that class action) and there was a process to it - I had to have an open case with the telco, had to be a recurring issue, had to demonstrate it on several different devices, etc. They came to the party but it wasn't a simple matter of a single phone call.

      • +4

Saw this in terms and conditions "If you are experiencing coverage issues on our mobile network, you can say goodbye to us and we'll gladly cover any cancellation fee and remaining device charges when you return the device to us in good working order."
