        • Oh ok

      • I got a pixel 5, still fine. The battery life is amazing.

Is $220 what they are offering (black, 128gb)?
How much can you get selling privately would be a fair bit more? Hmm.
Edit: seems to be about $350-$450 or so.

    • I got $50 for pixel 3 and then poof few days later it became $30.

You know you have just fake trade the phone and get the $300.

What's going to happen is if you don't trade in the phone they'll just bill ya for $10. Definitely worth it.

I did the same thing and didn't end up sending the pixel 3 in as they were giving me $30 and end up selling it for $200 privately while they were chasing my $30

    • My pixel 3 is in fine shape (shit battery life though) & it's only offering me $20. It was $75 when they had this offer for pixel 6a.

I still can't decide if I go for this deal or through Google store.

      • Google used to offer an extra year warranty (2y vs 1) and it was always better to get it directly for warranty, but these days should be the same warranty.

Hard to know.. I don't want to get it too early, then can claim a price drop within a year (28 degrees).

      • depends if theres something on the google store you want to use the $300 credit for I guess
otherwise an instant $300 off with the trade in is a good deal.

  • I want a pixel 7 Pro, but god dam spec wise the Samsung S22 still beats it nearly everywhere.

    • +1

if you don't need battery life the S22 is good. but battery life is the worst of any phone by far in that price point

      • Better than my Pixel 2 I assume haha

      • Surely can't be worse than Pixel 3 xl

    • You buy pixel for the camera and Google's software experience. That's the only two things attracting the users + the reasonable price. Those two guys who got the phones early have been claiming improvement in battery life and no heating like P6P but their claims aren't backed with any evidence.

Might be the year I finally buy and not return a pixel device

    • "Spec wise" - That would be a no einstein

      • I mean he's correct when he says it's superior spec wise. But phones nowadays have reached a bit of an interesting place in terms of specs. You used to have to get the phone with the best processor and most ram, now with the Google devices it's how they can optimise the software to utilise the processor and ram and it's as good as the highest spec devices. Apple has been doing this for years, using cheap processors and small amounts of ram compared to the Android counterparts. But iOS allows for this as it's very efficient and performs well.

        • "Apple has been doing this for years, using cheap processors" - Cheap processors? Its anything but cheap and powers most experiences on the iPhone including ProRes video which no android has till today. It literally two years ahead of the best from the Android world and Apple is using the power of that chip. Whether you do it or not depends on what you do with your device.

          • @dealsucker: Wasn't a bash on Apple, more a compliment, shouldn't have said cheap but rather less powerful. They haven't needed powerful processors or lots of ram as iOS is so well optimised. Android on the other hand has needed powerful processors and lots of ram for a good experience, until more recently with the recent Pixel devices.

            • @BeerCrisp: Wrong. Apple SOC's are literally class leading, by atleast 2 years if not more compared to the best from Android. And they need an SOC that powerful - imagine the load on the SOC doing prores video while consuming memory at the rate of 6gb per minute. The different wont show up in browser opening times or small games but do anything intensive like editing a 4k video on the device and you would see a clear difference in performance, sometimes to the tune of multiples not fractions.

iOS doesnt need as much RAM as Android but thats got more to do with fragmentation in the android space and to some extent garbage collection vs reference counting in iOS

  • my pixel 5 has a defective screen because google QC. i wonder if i can still trade it in

    • Not fixed under warranty?

      • It's 2nd hand, would it be eligible? It's got a black blob in the corner

        • +1

well you can trade but you would have to mark it as a defect on the screen

  • Does anyone know if JB will get the Pixel watch? And if so, assume i could use the bonus $300 to purchase that and then still be eligible for the nest, chromecast etc?

    • The 300 only eligible to redeem for pixel 7 unfortunately

      • So $300 comes off the price of the pixel 7, and deduct for trade in too? Don't need the bonus items/ gift card.

  • If your luck is like mine, it'll be $300 off without trade-in next in a month's time.

    • Could wait till they drop in price, decent reviews and sell privately..

  • Can you trade in the phone get the credit and buy something that isnt a phone?

    • Prob not, the whole point is here is making you buy a phone at rrp

    • +1

Yes the trade in phone value is a gift card

But the trade in coupon $300 can't use for anything but prepaid phone

""amazing battery life" they better have done some magic because the 6 pro's battery wasn't it."

The comments on battery life on that reddit thread are brutal. Is the battery life really that bad?

    • The battery life is really good! I upgraded from hte Pixel 6 pro and the 7 pro runs rings around it. I use a 14 Pro Max for work too and side by side through the day with very similar usage, the Pixel 7 Pro appears to be doing better (for me anyway). I don't play games or stream much on my phone, so no comment for people who do a lot of that on their phones

      • I've decided to stay in Apple. There's just too much that works well, people have iPhones so we FaceTime, the MacBook integration, I get free Apple Music all the time. I really thought about it, but it's not worth it this time.

        • Fair enough. Just in case you didn't know though - Link to PC on Windows is actually amazing. I have both an iPhone/Macbook and a Pixel 7/Windows laptop and I can now do more between the 2 on the Pixel/Windows combo. That only became the case this year. I get my messages, Whatsapps, calls etc all forwarded through my Laptop and I can even click 'mirror phone' on my PC now and get my phone's screen pop up on my laptop to interact with even if its charging upstairs. Apple allows you to share files, receive messages/calls etc through connected devices but you can actually now use every App on your phone on your laptop now with Android/Windows Link.

  • +1

Does anyone know whether pixel 7 Pro 128GB lacks anything other than memory compared to 256GB .

As you may know iphone 13 Pro and 14Pros 128 GB is capped at 1080p HD video at 30FPS whilst the 256GB and higher achive the 4K pro resolution.

    Link - https://www.tomsguide.com/news/your-storage-size-could-cap-y…

    • +2

No they are not. That is only for PoRes video which take 6gb of space for a 1 minute 4k video. None of the Android phone's support ProRes video of any kind so no, you dont have to worry about something which simply isnt there.

  • I have a pixel 6 pro and I wish they offer better deal for trade-in, then I will do it.

    • Hey man, I didn't get an option to message you but just wanted to ask which short throw projector you ended up going with? I am looking at Hisense L9 120" but very confused with mixed reviews

  • +1

Pixel 3a worth $10 trade in, now to wait and see if double dipping works (and the rest of it all too)

  • Hazel looks the best imo

  • I have an old S6 edge which JB gives $0. YOUR DEVICE TRADE-IN VALUE $0
My current phone is oneplus and there's no option for oneplus on the JB trade-in options.

Any chance I can get trade-in credits?

    • Just put a fake trade in phone

You'll get the $300 don't have to pay back but you'll be billed for the trade in phone value later on

      • How do they validate the IMEI?

        • Don't think they do?

      • How much be billed for if the trade in is $0 for an old phone? Be good if you got the $300 off and ccwgtv+ hub+ $100: gift card and sell a pixel 5 privately. Is that possible?

Was thinking could just not trade for the $220 and sell perhaps in that time, may not be worth the trouble and they are worth more than that.

Still don't know if the 7 or 7 Pro better suited. The smaller size and food battery of the pixel 5 has been good. The Pixel 7 is a fair bit heavier and bigger than the 5, but probably an alright upgrade performance wise.

Perhaps the 7 Pro is the go if they are bigger and heavier anyway, but no one-handed operation then.

        • Well you won't qualify if you have a $0 value trade device. It has to be worth something… I think $10 is the minimum… Pixel 3?

I would only need the 7 .. 7pro if you need more ram, long zoom focus and bigger and better screen

          • @Poor Ass: Yeah, Pixel 5 worth $220, probably only get $100-150 more max privately, probably worth it for dealing with less idiots.

Agree, don't need that stuff personally - good for those on social and watching movies etc but prefer smaller and longer battery now.

  • Anyone know how much a pixel 3 would be worth?

  • So confused..

So I want to buy this phone, is the plan to wait until the 13 to see if I can double dip on both the deals?

    • +1

Yes. Do not initiate the trade-in before that. If you do, cancel.

  • So everyone who is stacking Google credit….

">Google Store Credit is granted up to 225 AUD per transaction and 375 AUD per year."

Does this mean the 300 + 416( if you have the Google One 10% bonus) in credits won't be fully given?

    • Where'd you get the 416 from? 10% of 1299 is 129

      • 10% off with Email code and extra 10% store credit if you are a google one 2TB member

    • +1

Where did you see this terms?

  • +3

Why does the trade-in website need to sleep between 11pm and 7am? All I need is to find the value of a particular phone, not customer support or something with a human.
Seems especially odd considering JB have an after hours sale on tonight.

    • Yes it is weird.

    • I'm guessing it requires human operators to validate drivers licence photos before sending coupon emails

    • Well it's past 7am now.
PS $220 is hardly worth it for a pixel 5.. could keep as a spare for os holidays, but usually goes towards the new one.

Suppose saves the hassle but better deals in the future I reckon and could get $350 at least privately.
Already got a GTV, hub etc, don't want a voucher.

      999- 300-220$ still alright.

  • So pixel 5 trade in value is $220 if I wanted to hand that in.
I could get $550 off the pixel 7 pro 256Gb = $929 out of pocket? Or am I missing more to this?

    • +1

Nope that's right. Try and stack with some gift cards for a bit of extra saving.

      • Which ones can I stack? I'm lost as it is haha

  • +2

Does anyone know how this would be invoiced? Travelling overseas and this would be a work phone so trying to work out what portion I could claim on tax to see if this would be worth it

    • I'd like to know this too….

      • So based on what I have read the 300 will act as a coupon so you won't pay that. The rest will be paid via a form of payment (trade in voucher, cash, vouchers etc)

    • Can confirm the trade in bonus $300 voucher effectively reduces the price of the device by $300. So the Pixel 7 has a price on the tax invoice of $699.

  • Looks like Galaxy Watch 3 - 41mm trade in is $18 after changing a few variables. So in theory for a fake trade you'd get $318 credit and repay the $18 for total $300 off the device.

    • You could do this and then sell the phone you were intending to trade in privately for much more than the trade in value?

  • I legit just got a second-hand pixel 6 but this seems like a good deal.
    Start: $999
Trade-in voucher: $300 (could also get $50 trade-in value for old phone?)
Then the google appliances and voucher. Maybe $150 in value?
    Looking at $550 now.
I have $350 in JBHIFI vouchers, so then $200 out of pocket.
And could cover that with more vouchers from Woolies with roughly $20 worth of points from that.
Seems decent but I guess it depends how much I want a pixel 7!

    • Pixel 6 trade in is $300

      • Yep that should make it $300 coupon + $300 trade in value so $600 off.

  • How fast do you get the trade in coupons? Am I going to be a pain if I try to do it all in store?

    • Pretty much instantly. If you do it in the store, they just send you away to apply for the trade in on your phone yourself.

      • Cheers. Had a play with the phone and not 100% sold (was looking for more improvement in camera) but good to know this is easy.

        • +1

Isn't it one of the best cameras on the market?

          • @BeerCrisp: It is, except if you take close up photos all the time (like I do). The bigger sensor makes it worse for close focus.

Had a quick play with the wide macro on the p7p but didn't necessarily love it. Will go back today to test more.

            • +1

@mattman: Let me know how you go. I'm hoping the macro lens will improve my dickpics

              • @Drpepper666: So on suggestion from Reddit I tried the the new 2x "optical like" mode and it's actually dramatically better than the overprocessed image the p6p produces in 2x mode. For what I'm looking at (5-10cm wide plants) this is great now.

You might need to wait for the proper macro mode to drop for the peen pics though.

        • Where can you have a play with it? Is it on display at JBHIFI?

          • @PabloVicioso: Found one at local Telstra. But yeah looking at JB stacking trade bonus and preorder stuff.

  • can anyone help to confirm if the coupon we got for trade in can be used for anyone?
I have this question because I suddently find that I do not have the ID (australian passport or driving license) they request, and they do not accept any other forms of IDs.
I am thinking of have someone else to do the ID verification and then I use the code to buy the device myself.
    Does this work?

    • Coupon can be used by anyone. Problem is the person verifying must provide a credit card while registering. Risk is on them if you use both the trade in code Plus bonus $300 and not send the phone to JB. As they would be out of pocket for the trade in.

      • i will find a friend to do that, thanks for your confirmation.

Just want to double confirm if both the $300 coupon and the device value coupon both working for anyone? No associated account right? Thanks

  • So just double checking, if I have a friend that's wants to keep his existing phone as a backup but participate in this deal….

He would trade in a low value device like a Pixel 3, pick up the $300 bonus, use the bonus $300 to purchase the p7p, hopefully get the Chromecast, etc and the $100 JB gift card.

Then when it comes to send in the phone, like not send it? He would only be charged for the value of the phone?

    • In theory I think the voucher for the phone credit will just expire and if you didn't use it then it wouldn't matter.

      • He would still get the $300 bonus right if he didn't send in the phone he nominated for trade in?

        • Yep, he would get $300 voucher & Pixel 3 credit voucher seperately. Just do not use the Pixel 3 credit voucher and only use the $300 voucher.

        • +2

Yes, but the question you should be asking is will they then charge $300 to your CC

          • @txb: They won't.

          • @txb: They might according to their faq

  • Cluster of a deal lol

  • What value gift cards do I need to purchase? Is it the value of the phone minus the $300 voucher? Or do I still need to purchase gift cards for the full value of the phone?

  • Do you really need a credit card for the trade in? I am not sure if they accept debit card. If not, I have to be fast to apply one.

  • Anyone know if you can even double dip on the bonus offer yet? Probably can't hurt to pre order anyway before the 13th (or just wait for the prices to drop).

    • Pre-order requires paying the full amount. I attempted trade-in last night but the $300 offer wasn't live yet, I just emailed SquareTrade to get a coupon (someone posted about doing it).

The Pixel Bonus page on JB H-Fi says the Chromecast/Nest deal is valid for purchases as well as pre-orders (and ends on the 16th), so I'm gonna try to do it anyway tomorrow after getting my $300 coupon.

      • Sounds like it should work, fingers crossed. would have to sell the hub and gtv, bit of a pain. nice if you could get more gift vouchers instead.
Ps. I think the normal pixel 7 would suit me - don't really care about the telephoto or bigger screen i guess.

      • Good pickup. I'm sure before today it had said preorder only and they have now added the OR purchase part to the deal. If can stack both becomes a pretty good deal
