    seems like it's cheaper here

  • Wow six heat pipes for $69m previous one was $49? Would have just bought it just because

  • +4

    I can confirm this blows.

    • Good or bad?

      • +6

This deal blows, it doesn't suck. Hope that helps.

      • It's a dual fan FDB, it's possible to get a more powerful fan for +$4 freezer 50, but it's a pain to install.

  • Nice

  • +3

Geez, haven't really seen that name around since when I got their SLK900. Didn't realise they were still going.

    • +2

Me either! The Ultra 120 was "the" air cooler in like 2007 right around when Noctua started taking off.

      • +2

Yes! I used a TRUE 120 for about 10 years. ThemalRight Ultra Extreme XD what a name. It was a state of the art cooler. In fact the one I'm using now is probably worse than that fine piece of engineering.

        • +1

Even better, the official spelling was eXtreme. So 2000s hahaha.

  • -2

$49.90 here. Not sure how they think they're gonna fit it in a letter though 😂

    • +2

the one feedback for the listing says it is a scam

      • +2

Seller has 98.4% feedback on a pretty big sample size. I'd personally take the risk given that I get buyer protection from eBay.

        • +4

feel free, i'm tempted myself, but just note that it's the same place mentioned in the top comment of this thread with the fake reviews etc

      • +1

Mistakes happen but this vendor appears to be legit with 35k+ feedback.

    • +4

That's the PA120SE version, it's slightly shorter and lacks the metal heatsink covers.

The seller is legit as I've purchased from him before. But the guy is either a CH storefront or a dropshipper, so add in 2-3 weeks worth of delivery time.

      • Does pa120 se supports or comes with the lga 1700 bracket?

        • Yes. The kit comes with a plastic LGA 1700 backplate alongside with a LGA115X/1200 backplate.

          • +1

@loodealie: I have one and it didn't come with the LGA 1700 bracket. Might depend on how old the stock is.

            • @Void: That must be the case then. I ordered mine around end of June.

  • +2

It's a tier 4 fan on linus CPU coolers. So, ranked slightly worse than an Assassin III, and slighlty better than a Dark Rock 4.

    • +2

I don't know what those rankings are based on. The AK620 is tier 3, but this cooler beats it at 165 watts and below when noise normalised, although the AK620 does better at 260 watts. However, 0.1% of PC users are going to be pulling 260 watts on their CPU, so I would argue this is the better cooler for the overwhelming majority of people.

      • +1

Not that I put much faith in the linus tier list,
but your video shows that for cooling, when fans are normalised, both are within a degree of each at 120 w and both perform the same at 160 w.

It is then shown by Hardware Canucks, who also states, the "ak620 absolutely demolishes the peerless Assassin at between 2 to 7 degrees" at 260 w.

So stop spreading misinformation, to justify the fact you bought something.

So stop spreading misinformation, to justify the fact you bought something.

I don't own either of those coolers. But from the results it's rather apparent that thermalright has the better heatsink, and deepcool has the better fans. But the better fans only start to matter at very high heat loads which is why 99.9% of people are better off with the thermalright unless you're intending on overclocking a 7950x. Thermalright can still brute-force the same temperature at higher temperatures, but it comes at the cost of a lot more noise.

both are within a degree of each at 120 w(ibb.co) and both perform the same at 160 w

They're discrete point on the curve, not the whole curve.

ak620 absolutely demolishes the peerless Assassin at between 2 to 7 degrees

It's interesting now you want to talk about the entire noise curve rather than quote a discrete point. To my mind, it's not 7 degrees better because at one temperature reading it's only 2 decibels ahead /s

          • +2

            @iseeyou1312:

are better off with the thermalright

Sigh! Both perform to within a degree or two when it comes to 120 w or 160 w. It's only when it comes to the 260 w that one pulls ahead.

            thermalright has the better heatsink

I am not 100% convinced, but ok!

They're discrete point on the curve, not the whole curve.

Obviously they are discrete point and not a range; it's a bar char. However, it's better to use simple bar chart when communicating than to use a busy line graph that shows the same point.

It's interesting now you want to talk

I only quoted Canucks verbatim, I do not care about coolers. But, I do care that you said:

this cooler beats it at 165 watts and below when noise normalised.

When it isn't as simple as that. But, anyway you win, I give up, you are too good, insert what you want hear "here", ok?

    Big fan of this deal

  • -4

This deal is definitely amazing price to performance, but there's cheaper options for this cooler on Ebay and Aliexpress. So, per the voting guidelines I'm going to have to neg it, even though you don't deserve it OP.

    $49 for a black model

    Grey for $66.90

    • Why so many negs?

      • +7

Most likely because OP went into detail above about how the links provided and more so the seller seem really dodgy. It's the second comment from the top.

        • +1

Thanks. Comment was automatically hidden and I didn't "show" it and make the connection.

        • I didn't see that comment before I posted, but if I had've, I still would have made the same post with this caveat included:
The seller isn't dodgy, they have a 98.4% positive feedback score on 35,000+ items. They clearly state in the listing it's 3 weeks shipping (likely drop-shipping from China), and two people left negative reviews about not getting their coolers after 2 weeks.
It's also cheaper from AliExpress, but Ebay lets you use plus coupons and there's other giftcards, cashbacks, etc…

    • +1

      Yeah this looks better.

  • No direct touch heatpipes? No deal.

Snowman dual fan is better for the money.

If you want local warranty and ebay $5 discount for plus members…why not?

    • +2

No direct touch heatpipes? No deal.

That's not really a deal breaker. Base plate coolers usually outperform direct touch coolers due to having better contact, which more than compensates for the slightly lower efficiency in getting heat to the heatpipes. Also, thermal paste quality is much less important with the former.

      • +1

Snowman is float glass flat on the base.

        • All direct-touch heatpipe bases look flat to the human eye, but deviations only mere microns wide can make large differences to cooling performance.

          • @iseeyou1312: It's flat AF. I've bought dozens of them.

Lapping vs non lapping them makes no difference. I've gone to the effort.

  • This price is so close to budget 240mm AIO, will this outperform 240mm AIO?

    • +6

You won't tell the difference between this and a 240mm AIO below 150-200 watts, above 150-200 watts the AIO will start to do a lot better. There's no reason a decent CPU cooler won't last 10 years, and even then you only need to replace the fans (heatsink should last forever).
You'll be lucky to get 5 years out of an AIO presuming it doesn't have any defects like galvanic corrosion, but aesthetically they do look a lot better imo.

  • +8

The SE version which is "basically the same cooler" is $10 cheaper on the same website, and black.

    https://aufirstblood.com.au/products/pa120-se

    • Nice find, unfortunately sold out

  • +1

This cooler in my home country goes for ~$40 aud

  • +3

Sad to say shows as "Out of Stock".

The references to "thearoundaustralia" mob at the top flag that it seems at the least "unreliable". I ordered the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE in mid-April without delivery well over a month later. Eventually I got a refund via eBay. The feedback of the E-Bay site shows exactly what I experienced way back in April, so I would be wary. Between the suspect sellers on Amazon (e.g. Crucial 1 TB MX 500 for $75 etc) I have had a gut full of these sellers.

You would think it's in Amazon and eBay's own interests to weed these people out. On the Amazon one I contacted Amazon and the seller "disappeared" off their site (although I heard nothing further from Amazon), but others suspect sellers simply popped up to replace them. I just have had a gut full of these time-wasting "players" and really wonder why big mobs like Amazon and eBay don't seem to bother too much.

As for First Blood at least they have a physical shopfront for pick-up, etc and a phone number. Note they are on Amazon and offer the same Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 for a mere $89.00 and claim they have stock. They also show the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE for $134.54. True Oz Bargains would run from these and just hope BPC tech get replacement stocks for the $49.00 very soon. Enough!
