  • How loud is the fan?

    • +5

      Non existent

    • I dunno about non existent… I have an Optiplex 7050 with a i7-7700T, and as soon as I do anything mildly intensive it starts taking off like a jet engine. Annoys me so much I'm looking for something quieter.

      • Give it a good clean? Probably slot of dust since it is refurbished

      • +2

I had the same issue and found out it was because after I cleaned and reapplied the thermo paste, those 4 screws were not holding the heat hint flat. So a big part of the sink was not even touching CPU… Fixed that and it went very quiet with ~40% CPU constant usage

      • I've had it since new (4 yrs). Cleaned it a few times, was never blocked or anything. Never reapplied paste. Maybe I should give it a go?

        • If it was loud when new, it probably wont change anything.

        • I have the same unit as you, I reapplied the thermal paste with a better one and temperatures are much better. Idling around 34~40c, busy ~56c. Fans are quieter.

I want a computer for my son who is going to be a youtube superstar.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185505639114?hash=item2b30ff6aca…

will that be ok? I likely have a 256 or 500gb SSD on hand would probably go to 16 or 32 gb ram.

It will be used for video file storage and procesing. and gaming of course.

    Thanks

    • +4

Not for gaming. You need a discrete GPU or space to put a discrete GPU. These are perfect for home servers, normal office and browsing use (95% of average person workload).

For your needs you would want something a bit more expensive, have a look at some of the techfast deals that are around $1k. You want atleast 16gb ram (ideally more for video editing but 16gb should be perfectly fine). The main drive can be 500gb but you would also want a big external or internal hd (like 4TB+) and a GPU that can run games at 1080p min (like the RTX 3060 or Radeon 6600 i think).

      • +1

Needs at least a 4090 for that kind of gig. Realistically you'd want to get two in case he burns out the first one from all the eFame flooding through it.

    • Name checks out.

    • my son who is going to be a youtube superstar

      Lofty goal.
You’re going to need to do some research, that PC as others have pointed out is old and only suitable for basic tasks. You’ll need to up your budget for a start, probably around $1000 at the minimum for something decent.
Building your own would probably be the best value or maybe checkout Gumtree/FB Marketplace/eBay for some used gaming PCs

    • I want a computer for my son who is going to be a youtube superstar.

So sure? What is your kid doing on YT?

  • How much to get 16GB RAM in one of these?

    • Hey mate, we can do a ram upgrade on these at the time of purchase. Just make sure you do the checkout at the same time

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182649737139

      • Will it be 1x16GB or 2x8GB? Is there a way to specify?

        • It will most likley be 2 x 8Gb. Can always put a message on your order requesting it so we can lock it in for you.

          • @Calmago: Will this unit definitely have a wifi card in it?
Last time I bought from you guys it didn't have one and you sent a USB dongle instead - https://postimg.cc/f35kZbBH

            • +1

              @Sihorrih: Hi

              Yes, internal wifi card.

              • @Calmago: May I know the wifi model so I can know the speed?

                • @fan8956: I'm 90% sure they all have the bellow, but don't hold me to it.

                  Intel Wireless-AC 9560, Dual-b and 2x2 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MU -MIMO + Bluetooth 5

      • Is there an option to go 32gb?

    • Tempted on the 16gb upgrade, what are people’s thoughts, worth $62 extra or wait for an 16gb inclusive deal.

      • You should have got one posted underneath, 16GB version for only $20 more.

        • Had it in the cart but decided I’d like one with the internal wifi/Bluetooth, or to wait for a SFF one so I can add a low profile wifi / graphics

      • Same here, i want to go to 32GB but i am not even sure what type of RAM would fit

  • +2

Can the DisplayPorts do two monitors at 4K@60Hz?

  • is it good enough pc for running Minecraft?

  • Is it possible to get this deal the same on your Kogan listing? I've got some credit I would like to use haha.

  • +4

I got this one with 16GB RAM, seems a better deal if you don't need WiFI & Win 11 Pro

    price $286 for eBay plus

    • +2

Ordered this as it seems to be better! It does come with USB Wifi just not the M2 card.

Now to cancel my first order…

      • Oh jsut saw on ebay & it says seller has updated the listing & the change is ISB WiFi
@Calmago please update my order with USB WiFi

  • This should be fine for a homeassistant server yeah?

    • Absolutely and for general home use.

    • +2

      Overkill.

      • +2

Depends, seen the price of raspberry pis lately?

      • Yeah for only home server a 6500T would suffice which would be about $100 less.

  • On checkout, when applying the code, get a show stopper, so can't place an order.

"To apply this code, you need to be an eBay Plus member."

    • Did you use the PLRE22 code? That's for plus members use the PLRE20 for normal plebs.

    • PLRE22 is a eBay Plus exclusive code for 22% off
Non-Plus members can use PLRE20 which takes 20% off

    • Use PLRE20 for 20% off for non members instead of 22%

  • hi, can we request 1 x 8 gig stick please?

  • …and will we get 1 x 8 gig stick for the 8 gig option?

  • Is it possible to arrange pick-up instead of postage?

  • +1

OP - anymore of these going to be available?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/194418579363?hash=item2d444017a3…

Went to pull the trigger and OOS.

    • Negative :(

  • This would make a nice little blueiris machine?

    • Yup. Has Quick Sync. Not sure about AI motion detection, that'll depend on number of cameras. I just set up a 7400T with blue iris and deep stack. Seems ok so far. 5x 4k cameras.

      • instead of deepstack look into codeproject.ai. That is the recommended object detection for blueiris now. Interestingly codeproject.ai is soon to have Coral support too. Then I may make the move to blueiris over frigate.

        • Yeah I saw that Deep stack is getting deprecated after I finished the install. I'll try codeserver.ai when I find some time.

Anyone know the difference between this $358 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/184874529755 and this $350 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/204051098452

I'm looking for an 8th Gen machine that can take a LP graphics card and these seem decent?

  • hi, can you answer my question about ram please i dont want 2 x 4gb sticks as i already have a spare 8gb sodimm

    • +2

Hey mate, just put a note on your order requesting 1 x 8Gb stick and we will do it for you. I'm pretty sure all the stock is single 8Gb.

    • -3

Sodimm ain't going to help you with this machine….

      • +1

These micro pc’s do actually use sodimm.

  • +1

Didn't need it. Bought it anyway. Will decide later what to do with it.. lol

  • Would this make a decent plex server? With external usb hdds of course.

    • It's more than enough. Can hardware transcode 4K HEVC easily as well.

  • +3

Do these come with genuine Dell power supplies?

  • Thanks OP. Bought one with 16GB memory upgrade.

  • +1

Do these come with a standard SSD or M2? (I believe they support one of each)

  • +2

Just a heads up, the one I bought last week came with a cheap generic power supply. I'm not a big fan of cheap power supplies especially for a computer. Hopefully it lasts a good while.

    • Apparently some of the CPU get locked to 900mHz if it detects a fake PSU. Is yours running at normal freq?

      • Yeah definitely is a thing there is work arounds but who wants to be doing that

      • Task Manager reports it running at full speed, so looks like it's OK.

    • Waiting for mine to arrive still, however I hope this isn't the case.. Really hoping for a genuine psu!

      • Yeah I'm not buying one unless it has a genuine power supply.
        That's why I asked above

      • This is the PSU I received. I sent them a message saying they should have mentioned it, their reply was "As these machines are refurbished there is a chance that some parts that were replaced are of non-genuine stock."

I don't mind non-genuine RAM and SSDs as they're generally reliable. Generic PSUs on the other hand have a much higher chance of failure. This one feels much lighter than an original one.

        • +1

Building custom PCs, there's 1 part I never skimp. The PSU lol. It can take down the whole system..

Friend who bought 2 of these in the last deal got 2 genuine :. Guess it's pot luck.

        • +2

Update. Mine is genuine 90w PSU so I'm happy.

          • @ReaperX22: Congrats on winning the lottery!
Or maybe I was just unlucky.

            • @eug: 1x8GB stick of RAM too without asking! Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket indeed..

            • +2

@eug: Mine arrived today with a Dell 90W power supply as well.

              • @MonkDog: Grr, looks like I drew the short straw!

              • @MonkDog: I got a generic 90W power supply but received a 1x8GB stick which was one win.

What is the model number of the genuine Dell power supply?

  • Anyone know the version of the display ports? It didn't specify here: https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/shop/cty/pdp/spd/optiplex-70…
For use as a media box, the most important question is probably whether it can do 2160p @ 60HZ, 4:4:4 with 10 bit colours for HDR. In other words display port version 1.4 or above.

  • do these Support AES-NI

  • Does anyone know if these are genuinely Windows 'Pro' as clearly stated in the heading? The one we received just has the Windows sticker with no mention of Pro. We were hoping for Pro so we could make full use of Bitlocker. Just haven't been able to check yet as DisplayPort seems to be the only output option available to connect it to a screen (we need to pick up a cable before we can turn it on and check).

    • The one I ordered last week came with Win 11 Pro.

  • Are we able to get these with an NVME on the board like the previous deal instead of 2.5 SSD?
I've got a brand-new SSD to put in one of these and it would be my preference to have the OS on NVME

    • +1

Mine came with an M.2 SK Hynix SC311 SATA SSD. That frees up the 2.5" drive bay. I assume the onboard SATA port will work at the same time, but maybe double-check it?

      • Thanks for letting me know.
Did you order from this deal?

        • I ordered it about a week before this deal. Ended up paying $334 with a different discount code. Sigh.

  • Mine arrived today. Aftermarket tramsformer but with the optional third Displayport. Pretty happy.
Quiet as a mouse and is a very impressive for the price.

    • How is the 3rd display port "optional"

      • It's not built in to the motherboard. You can put in an HDMI port instead.

  • +1

Received today, got the 16GB RAM upgrade and it had an M2/have installed a 1TB SSD in it. Genuine power supply, third DP port, Windows 11 Pro out of the box. Planning on using as a 24/7 Plex box.

    • Is the third DP port next to the ethernet port?

How much did that come to in total with the 16GB RAM upgrade?

      • Yep, next to the Ethernet port. It is paying to upgrade to 16GB in total.

  • Thanks OP, bought one. I have left a note requesting to include 1x8GB memory stick. Thanks.

  • Ordered last night, thanks OP. Got the 16gb upgrade aswell so all up $342

Hoping this machine should last another 4-5years

  • Just saw DDR4 sodimm is $35

    https://www.centrecom.com.au/crucial-8gb-1x8gb-ddr4-sodimm-3…

    Why is OP charging $79?
