  • eBay seem to have done something annoying with 'postage policies' for listings. In my case every postage combination I have ever used is listed as a separate policy and I have NFI which is which. I am deleting them all and starting from scratch.

    • Mine is the same, it went weird a few months ago and I can't figure out a fix

      • +1

        I got it.
You need to go to My eBay Summary > Account > Business Policies and just mass delete all the ones marked Postage. There might be heaps there if you have been on eBay several years.
Then you need to create some new ones based on whatever your most used post methods are.
        Hit 'Create Policy'
I used colours in the title to separate them eg 'White' I made free post all states, "Red" I made $9.95 post all states, but whatever works for you.
Just dick around with whatever title and requirements you need - these will then be available as options each time you list
Another eBay "improvement" that screws things up

        • +1

          Legend thank you

  • Can anyone confirm this promo will not affected/voided by the below existing "promo"?

List up to 250,000 Items for FREE Every Month!

    • Pretty sure it's not affected. When ebay gave those 3 free listings promo, it did not affect

      • Yup sold an item overnight and can confirm it works! Cheers!

        • mind me asking what did you sell overnight?

  • +1

Finally a deal for sellers. Haven't sold much since the Gumtree promo has been removed and the old "No FVF Sundays" not being run.

eBay needs to run these things more often.

    • +1

      Yes me too.
If there are no seller deals, I just stop selling and wait until there are

  • Cheers OP! 🍻

UPDATE: Sold an item last night which I had re-listed under "Sold Similar" - can confirm it only charged me $1.30 final value fee.

    • When you listed the item can you remember if the Used/Left:Available tracked succesfully in the seller hub? I've just tried doing a sell similar myself only for it to not have tracked instead tracking in the List up to 250,000 Items for FREE Every Month! offer.

      • It still says Used/Left: Available for me even after selling something.

        • Thanks! Time for me to pull all my listings and sell similar. Fingers crossed the 31/12 expiry holds true and we can do it again end of the month as it seems auto-renew won't be eligible.

          • @LaProblematique: No probs! Ah good idea, thanks for the reminder. Just remember the item has to SELL, before the end of the year, so i'll probably set a few 7 day auctions to end 30/12 as well

        • Could I also confirm if you have taken up the List up to 250,000 Items for FREE Every Month! offer and it was active at the time you activated this current offer when selling similar?

    • +2

Thus proving what we all know - that eBay customer service just make things up as they go along, then pretend their information is 'official'
Don't trust what they say folks, always double check. They are idiots.

      • I do this: if chat result is good to me, I trust and take note.
if not, say bye and reach to next chat. but now seems they also noted so next chat may give same answer.

        • Yes, in this case eBay CS were telling people further up the thread here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12883776/redir that listing with "sell similar" would 100% definitely invoke the full fees, not the discount. Except it was completely wrong.
The problem is that it is typical of them. They just make crap up and pretend it's official

  • Couldn't see anything specifically relating to it - Anyone know if this promo is fine for multi-variation listings? Or am I safer listing every separately?

  • weird it seems i am eligible for this three offers. already activated both. the sendle doesnt have accept button.

You've accepted the offer "$1 Variable Fees on your new listings" https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/733803
You've accepted the offer "Pay $0 Variable Fees on 3 new sales, thanks to eBay Plus." https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/727626
50% off Sendle Pick up & Delivery Shipping Labels (up to 3) for Seller https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/730898

    • i wonder which of the first 2 eBay would use when you make a sale? Seems odd from eBay. hmm

      • +1

long time ago i had multiple offers, the ebay agent told me system will apply "the best" first … .

  • I haven't used ebay in 10 years. Any advice on postage, and the best way to avoid getting scammed by buyers who say they don't receive stuff? Do you use tracked post for everything? Do you offer local pick-up or does that attract weirdos to your house?

    • +1

      Any advice on postage,
well just measure your item and find the right postage on aust post calculator

and the best way to avoid getting scammed by buyers who say they don't receive stuff?
you can prevent low feedback members to bid/buy, also no international buyers for sure

Do you use tracked post for everything?
      of course. MUST

Do you offer local pick-up or does that attract weirdos to your house?
yeah no unless you are selling fridge

      • thanks for the advice

    • +2

For high value items I always pay for signature on delivery ($5)

This hopefully prevents a parcel from being left on a porch and stolen, it has to actually be handed to someone at the address.

  • So all items under this promo will incur final value fee of $1.30…. So if you are selling a small low value item, this really isnt worth it. I guess you dont get to opt for the % valuation for small items?

    • +1

"relist" would be good option for small value items ie. less $7

  • +2

just sold a $92 item that was listed via "sell similar" - ebay cost $1.30. better than the 14% they usually rort

  • +2

Interesting, so any relisted items are ineligible. So if your item doesn't sell, you need to create a completely new listing rather than using the auto re-list function. That's sneaky!

"The $1 Variable Fee Promotion does not apply to…
Listings that are automatically relisted through the Automatic relist function or the GTC function during the Promotion Period"

  • Haven't sold in while. Was going to take advantage of this offer, but when going through the onboarding, I'm asked to provide either and driver's license or passport and DOB. Given the recent data breaches, I'm hesitant.

Does anyone know how long they keep such information on file? I've read their policy on data storage and retention, but it doesn't provide enough info.

    • +1

If you don't then you can't sell, and take this fantastic once in a while opportunity to save seller fees… so far I had no problems with mine.

  • Does anyone know how long it takes/how many sales made before the 14d payment hold can be removed? I think it's because I'm a new/infrequent seller. What would constitute a good selling history?

  • Can anyone confirm this works on listings with an item quantity of more than 1 please?

    • I don't see why that would be an issue. AFAIK eBay does not allow you to list multiple listings of the same item anymore. So I've listed multiple quantity listings in the past and those have worked fine for eBay no fee promos.

    • +1

Just sold an item from a multiple quantity listing and can confirm that the promo works fine.

  • Wow, selling on ebay is complete trash now. Listing keep getting bought up by scammers.

    • Oh no. What happened?

      • I just have to keep cancelling the sale. I list it, scammer buys it, then the listing is taken offline and I then need to manually relist it.

So far it is full of scammers with accounts registered 1 day ago.

Even gumtree is better than this because at least you can filter out the scammers yourself.

        • +1

You are selling something that scammers clearly want. Can you give us an idea what it is?
Am curious as I have not had a scammer for some time

    • +2

you can prevent low feedback members to bid/buy, also no international buyers for sure

  • Is this $1 promo only for 1 item you sell or is it more than 1?

    • If you re targetted you should be able to see the deails from your ebay seller summary, maybe click the term and condition

      • Yep it shows "available" however I'm not sure what the limit is. Is it only for the next item I list and sell or anything until the 31st of December?

$1 Variable Fees on your new listings
$1 Variable Fees when you list before 31 December. Fixed fee, other fees, and T&Cs Apply

        Used/Left: Available

        • For the free label, it's only limited to one.

For the $1 variable fee, it's unlimited until expiry.

          • +1

@silverrat23: Yep its a very good promo. I've sold x3 items so far and only paid the $1 + $0.30 on each sale.

  • Thanks! Finally! This should be standard for casual sellers wanting to sell their second hand items. Even a limit of 2 per month would be great. 10% on a used iPhone is just ridiculous.

  • Does anyone know how to overcome this error, "It was not possible to generate the label. Something is wrong. Please try again later," when trying to generate the free label?

    • +1

happened to me. you can contact ebay and they can generate it for you

  • Has anyone else experienced their listings automatically enabling free pick up, despite unchecking the box? I uncheck it, then when it starts saving (and fading out) the box becomes ticked.

    • I'm still waiting for a guy from Nairobi to come and pick up something.

      • +1

Don't stress mate I'll come pick it up for him ;)

        • +1

Apparently he's a prince and needs the bridge badly but I do have another bridge to sell if you want one.

    • lol you guys

Update: known issue from eBay, also affecting other users.

  • So how has everyones selling gone so far guys? Me personally I've sold 250 items, average sale price $18 per item. Definitely making the most of this promo!

    • +3

      Damn bro, you selling crack?

      • Almost. Video games :)

    • +1

I had same issue, I used help chat, they advised some users reported similar issue and that there was a Sendle/ebay integration issue. They advised to send directly via Sendle, take screenshots of offer, error (greyed out text), sendle invoice and email ebay Help. I was issued a reimbursement the next day.
I sold a big/heavy vacuum cleaner and postage was $23. Great saving, great promo.

  • Attempting to use Sendle and receiving "It was not possible to generate the label. Something is wrong. Please try again later."

and then it has the note about updated details on the 11th for Metro deliveries only, which is not covered in their terms but good luck trying to fight it.

Annoying for a first time user, spending time to try and understand the offer and think better of it.

    Just got this email

    Dear User,

Our records indicate that you have RSVP’d for the $1 Variable Fee promotion. Please be advised that, in accordance with the promotion terms & conditions, we have varied the terms, and the promotion will now be ending effective 12:00pm AEDT Thursday 17 November 2022. Listings created between the date of RSVP and 12pm AEDT Thursday 17 November 2022 will still receive the benefit of the discounted Variable Fee until the listing renews, whether by auto-renewal or because the listing is “Good ‘Till Cancelled”. After this, standard fees will apply.

No action is required on your part. We apologise for any inconvenience.

As always, thanks for selling at eBay.
    The eBay Team

    • Yep WTF??! Dodgy!!

    • +1

Half an hour to put all your listings up

      • -2

        More like 12.5.hours?

Just put up as many blank listings as possible and then you can revise them to whatever you want.

        • +1

its 12pm not AM, we got 26 mins

          • @essent1al: Derp my bad, only 830am here so I'm half asleep still.
            Goddam ebay

        • Isn't 12pm AEDT midday in Melbourne?

        • 12pm is only 26 minutes away… unless you're not in Australia lol

      • +3

Just listed 6 items in the last 15 min. Now to go back and slowly amend each of them with more info and pictures.

        • Great job

    • Yup. same, I guess they can really change the T&Cs whenever they want to. sad

    • What about listings created before with a quantity of more than 1?

    • It's absurd

    • Anyone know if you can create a blank listing and then later on change it to auction?

    • Get stuffed ebay

I thought it was spam email at first.

The email just said user instead of my actual username and the logo used was all pixelated.

This email was generated in a hurry. I suspect eBay were losing out big time with this.

    • Yep, got this email too

  • wtf ebay

  • Gosh, first Deliveroo, now this…

    • At least they gave 30 min notice, unlike Deliveroo who gave zero notices!

  • +2

dont forget to relist all your current active listings quick

    • Reminder - can't end and relist. Must be brand new listing otherwise not eligible!

      • +1

Yep - i did sell similar!

  • +3

For once a promo that people actually wanted to use and now these clowns give us 30 mins notice for any listings.

  • Damn it, didn't even use this yet and they are ending the promo way early

    • Yeah sucks, FeeBay are ending it 6 weeks prematurely cause people actually using it.

  • is it possible to bulk add photos to drafts? im doing it one by one atm

  • All my listings got bought by scammers and whenever I relist, it's bought again. All bought by users registered 1 day ago with no feedback, and asking to post to weird countries.

Thus nothing of value was lost.

    • What are you selling?

      • +2

Sounds to me like transcontinental ballistic missiles which would be odd as I sold all of mine without issue using this promotion.

    • +2

      Try this - https://www.ebay.com.au/help/selling/listings/creating-manag…

you can also find somewhere to block bids to places that you don't ship to (can't find it exactly)

it will help eliminate this kind of issues

      • That's better than ebay support.

Their support was pretty terrible. Their best idea was for me to block the users one by one… of which, how would I block them before their account is even created or without knowing who is going to buy.

        • the old ebay site was much better, although uglier it was way more functional and these 'advanced' features you'd never be able to find nowdays unless you knew about it previously

          https://www.ebay.com.au/help/policies/selling-policies/inter…
          3. How to prevent international buyers from purchasing your items

          hope that helps

  • +1

looks like ebay has killed this deal for anyone who activited - check emails

  • -1

Joke, cancelled early…when i was going to list tonight

    • eBay employee negged!
