I'm assuming we can upgrade to this?

    • Should be able to, you can already move between any plan and retain the 30% within the 12m

Check the billing when you switch.
When i switched to FTTP, they stuffed mine up.

Thought RSP's had to advertise a 'typical' peak speed?

Doesn't read to me like they are fulfilling their advertising requirements? Advertising a conservative speed and then adjusting it when more data is available would make more sense to me.

        • +1

Thought RSP's had to advertise a 'typical' peak speed?

It's a new service, no customers yet.

They don't have 'typical' peak speed

It says so on their page.

          • -5

@jv: So every 'new' service gets a free pass not to advertise typical speeds?

I've never seen any other RSP advertise that they 'don't know' what the typical speed will be.

            Doesn't sound right to me.

Unless they are an amateur outfit they must have some sort of an idea what the speed is going to be at peak, why don't they advertise a conservative speed and then up it as required, would ensure the consumer goes into things with a realistic expectation.

            • +1

              @shutuptakemymoney101:

So every 'new' service gets a free pass not to advertise typical speeds?

Yes, because they don't have any real data to advertise typical speeds.
They say they will update their website as soon as they have the data needed.

              • -1

@jv: Doesn't instil any confidence for me as a consumer if they don't have even a basic idea of what their network will likely perform at during peak.

I also wonder whether the ACCC allow an initial shoulder shrug from the RSP and if so for how long.

              • -1

@jv: Maybe they need to test their network before opening it up to sale?

I'm sure plenty of existing customers would jump at the chance to test a higher speed tier for them.

Testing will only provide 'test' results, not 'real' results.

They aren't forcing you to buy this product, why don't you wait a month or two for the actual 'typical' speeds to be published then.

                  • @jv: Don't think I'd ever sign up to a speed $100+ per month plan where the RSP selling it doesn't have a clue what a typical peak download speed would be.

Hopefully it works out for the customers.

They know what the speed will be, but are not able to post actual speeds.

                      Anyway, I'm on a 250 plan and get > 250 95% of the time.

                      • -1

@jv: That's good, I'm not casting aspersions on the speed I just find it unusual that they aren't posting a conservative speed which at least gives customers an idea of what they are signing up for.

I don't know but maybe you do, what other RSP's do you know of that have advertised in the same manner?

do you know of that have advertised in the same manner?

When NBN first started, no ISPs posted typical speeds.

@shutuptakemymoney101: Your name doesn't check out at all

                        • @shutuptakemymoney101: This whole conversation is irrelevant.

The speed you get at your specific address won’t match the average/typical speed anyway.

Providing a typical speed for the whole of Australia doesn’t give the information you’re looking for.

                          • @username1: Regardless of what you think of it, it's still a requirement to advertise it or have I got that bit wrong?

                            • @shutuptakemymoney101: It's impossible to publish "typical speeds" without real data, unless you make it up.
I would rather real data than fairytales.

In 2010 Optus had "supersonic speed broadband" which was advertised at 100Mbps, then they partnered with Netflix and offered an extremely good price for the time (~$70-$80 iirc).
The flooded their network with new customers but didn't upgrade their infrastructure to cater for it.
Typical speeds at peak times were below 20Mbps.

If it's any help, I'm with More on their 250/25 plan, with HFC.
ansemjo/speedtest shows my last 30 day's averages are:

                              282.61 Mbps down
                               24.69 Mbps up
                                   6 ms ping

Looking at the chart, it rarely drops below 250Mbps.

(hopefully I'm not helping to flood their network)

                            • @shutuptakemymoney101: I ran out of negs. Please stop commenting and listen to all they people responding.

                              1. Typical speeds must be based on actual usage data and during specific periods. As this has not been offered there is no specific data. Claiming otherwise would be a false representation.

                              2. I have never made any ISP decision on a typical speeds for the whole of Australia. The stat is nigh useless.

                              3. If you don't want to spend money until you know, then don't. If you don't feel they have a good legal and compliance team why don't you complain to them or to the ombudsman.

You didn't answer though, what other RSP's have you seen do this?

                                    • +2

@shutuptakemymoney101: I disagree. These posts are for letting others know about bargains and not a "Discussion Forum" to debate in. That's what the Ozb forums are for.

There really is no logic in debating here as it's wasted space that others have to read through. It doesn't assist with deciding on whether to purchase or not. If unsure then perhaps consider calling the company to check OR if concerned avoid buying the product in question.

Yeah, I know, I am guilty of wasting space with this comment, sorry all! No reply required :-)

@shutuptakemymoney101: ALL RSP's do not inform of "typical" speeds during peak when they launch a new speed tier, why? Because they don't have any data to post "typical" speeds.
It is literally impossible to post typical customer speeds without any customers on that speed, so they cannot make a claim that is not true (false advertising).
Within 1 to 2 months they will have data.
FYI, the ACCC has also just stated that RSP's will need to inform of both the "typical" download AND upload speed now (there is a 2-month grace period for them to get this data on their websites)

I'm on their 100 plan and it's great. It's 10:43pm and I'm getting 96mbps despite also streaming tv (not sure if that'd make a difference to a speed test).

    • Mixed bag based on the comments here:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/727108

    • I'm on 250/20 . So far rocking good . Getting around 260mps download speed .

    • I was for about 6 months with Vodafone and I had daily 2-3 seconds outages during the day, multiple times. With more I had only once experienced an outage of about 30 seconds, but not those "micro-outages".. so I'm a happy customer of More.

    • I asked them on their chat whether you get a public IP or are behind CGNAT and they said they provide a public IP4 address.

Here's the chat (sorry for it being a bit chopping, i had to take multiple screenshots of it and stitch it together)

  • How to upgrade?

  • +6

Was on their 250 plan and was only getting 10-20 in peak time

FTTP too. No idea why. All other providers have hit at least 200.

    • +2

Wow that’s bad. I assume you went through their customer service checks?

    • That's no good…

I've been with More for about 6 months and am getting about 210 downloads in peak.

Remember to use a CAT6 to your Wifi AP if your speeds are over 100mbps- I was using an old CAT5 without realising and couldn't hit the higher speeds until I switched out the cable when I first set it up.

      • +2

Yeah I’ve used 4 providers at same address/set up

More the only one where the speed died during peak

        • +1

I'm sorry for your loss. Of bandwidth.

Hopefully your new provider has fixed that issue.

      Ping: 2 ms
      Connection Type: Ethernet
      Server: TasmaNet Pty Ltd

    • I'm with them and I hit about 200 peak times.

Fttp, in point cook area in melb

  • Service is okay, you get static ip too

    • +1

      They changed to 'sticky' recently

      • Does that mean static IP is no more available?

        • Mine hasn’t changed in months. I believe it’s a change in policy in case they need to change them for any reason

  • Cripes, that is a ripper deal

  • +1

Can vouch for them. On 100/20 I think it is, ftarted with fttn, then upgraded to fttp when it came available. Customer service has been great and get the speed advertised everytime I test it.

  • -5

Too many CBA customers around, all wish to get more internet at discount, too many more customers, More congested too much, Ultimately too low speed..
    Just a hypothesis

    • +7

      Nice almost-haiku

    • Vocus is huge, they don't have CVC dedicated to more…

As a customer for a while now I can say that my peak speed never drops below 50 on the 50/20 plan.

      • Agreed vocus is probably the best around. I haven’t tested others in past 5 years. 10/40 plans are bang on target.

      • Yeah its genuinely good, the only knock is the traffic management vocus uses for intl traffic (residential gets substantially lower priority)

  • Is it worth leaving ABB for this?

    • -1

Yes, if you are a CBA customer.

      • More if you work for cba as well

    • +3

      I did.

You get what you pay for. Faultless experience with ABB, but a few stutters and farts most nights streaming Kayo at peaktime on More NBN. I just weigh it up against the considerable $$ savings. 50/20 here.

      • thank you.

mebbe i'll change. ABB at $79 vs $59 more

        Hmm.

    • You can always try it for a month or two, see what it's like for you and if you don't like it switch back to ABB :)

Not like it's hard to change RSP's on the NBN.

      • I spoke to the wife.
She'd rather pay the ABB premium and have NBN that works.

        WFH'ing makes internet essential

        • Fair call.

I work from home also, been with More for 2 months, I've had 2 known issues since that time (they SMS'd confirming the network issues), which was annoying, but it has been rock solid for the last 4 weeks, thankfully.
Hopefully, it'll remain this way now - time will tell.

  • Not specific to More (even though I’m with them on 100/20 in Sydney metro) - still waiting for upgrade availability, suburb was announced in August 2021, hopefully it’s soon.

  • 50% off for CBA staff too

    • Can a CBA staff member connect 2 homes ? And get the 50% discount or is it one account only ?

    • nice, there a way to pretend to be a cba staff member

    • how do you acces that do you just put staff number in during sign up etc?

      • +1

Access it via my staff deals. You’ll need to sign up using your CBA email.

    • Hey - I would like to drop you a quick inbox message. Can you drop me a line so I can reply to you? Cheers - DJ

  • Great deal I am on the 250 plan can say never goes below the speed been over a year and can’t fault them btw FTTP connection here

  • Less is more

  • Can I upgrade online? Current more customer but cannot see the gigabit plans in dashboard.

    • Yes interested to find out too

  • Awesome deal. Will switch at the end of the month! Thanks OP!

  • +1

Does anyone know if they actually get close to 1000 with the highest plan?

    • This is what I’d like to know, not risking my 119 a month
Superloop for horrible speed for 15 less

      • You don't have to risk it, just setup a second service on UNI-D port #2.

        • +1

He can't a FTTP NTD NBN limitation is 1.250Gbps which means if he has a legacy 1000/50 plan currently than he would have to churn it to More, same with HFC, have to churn

How did you go about getting it. I called asking them to upgrade, they said i might not be able to keep the discount and that they were going to have a meeting with cba on Monday and get back to me Tuesday.

This was the answer i got after waiting the entire day for a call back as to whether i could keep my discount

        • I just phoned up and asked for the upgrade… then I asked if the discount would still be applied and they said yes, but not extending the period beyond the initial 12 months… It was very straight forward. Still getting very good speed during this time… https://www.speedtest.net/result/13893923732

          • @robininoz:

I asked if the discount would still be applied and they said yes

That's funny, my experience was totally different. I called this morning, they told me they're unsure and that I'd have to until Monday to find out.

          • @robininoz: strange. The rep i spoke to said theyd still need approval. told them id be happy with the discount only being applied to the remaining discounted months

  • Can I keep my orbi rbk23 as the modem for this? I’m with superloop now

Edit - on HFC. I think I had an issue with vlan tagging with TPG back in the day

  • Wait thats crazy, i was just checking their website and called today asking if they had anything higher than the 250 plan. They literally just uploaded that 1000 tier plan, i'm gonna hop on that now! I was just about to buy their 250 down, lucky me.
