Apple & Apple Education Store: 10% Cashback (Exclusions Apply, Capped at $100) @ Cashrewards

3280

This is what we've all been waiting for

Have you seen the Cashrewards Black Friday cashback increase banner everywhere? Seen the Apple logo on it and wondered when it will happen and how much the cashback will be?

Well, I reached out to TA (tightarse) last week to enquire about the upcoming upsized cashback for Apple since everyone was asking for it in relation to Apple's annual Black Friday sales (Apple Shopping Event) and he was more than happy to provide some details:

Upsized cashback rate: 10% (excl. GST)

During the 24 hour promo, cashback for Apple is capped at $100 in total per member account, irrespective of the number of transactions made. Valid 12am to 11:59pm AEDT 25/11/2022.

Best to use the Cashrewards app for the highest chance of tracking!

TA has confirmed that all cashback eligible products sold as part of the Apple Shopping Event will be applicable/eligible for the 10% upsized cashback offer, despite having a promotional bonus gift card bundled with the item.

However, cashback will still be ineligible if you purchase a standalone gift card (as always), so don't buy a standalone gift card.

Stack this upsized cashback deal with the Apple AirPods Pro 2nd Gen $399 + Bonus $80 Apple Gift Card deal for an even bigger saving on the AirPods Pro 2nd Gen, especially if using discounted gift cards to pay (yes - you can use gift cards to pay) - this is probably the best deal ever for the 2nd Gen

Got me excited until seeing it is ineligible on the new phones

    • +16

The list of ineligibles covers anything I would be interested in.

      • +3

        Exactly

      • that is apple style

  • +8

OP posting while at his Ozbargain meetup dinner…

  • +1

    Stellar effort. Perfect timing!

    Thanks OP.

  • +3

Awesome! Thanks. Makes M2 MacBook Air pricing pretty decent.

Edit: is this just the "Education Store", excluding AOC?

  • If we've already got the Apple Gift Cards redeemed in our account, can we just press apply at checkout, and still be eligible?

    • +3

When I did that a few months back, cashback got accepted and paid out multiple times, so I assume so

      • Cheers!

    • Wondering if Rep from cashrewards can confirm this?

Also have not done this before, can I redeem multiple gift card (like multiple 200$ denomination of apple gift card) into my apple account?

What does it mean by "standalone gift card" ?

Assuming if one does not wish to add gift card to account, checking out with multiple gift card is still eligible as well right (maximum 8 per online transaction)?

      • +1

What does it mean by "standalone gift card" ?

The standalone gift card part isn’t related to redeeming this deal.

The standalone gift card is when you’re manually adding an Apple Gift Card to cart and buying it.

In this deal the gift card is already bundled with the promotional item, which makes it not a standalone gift card.

Assuming if one does not wish to add gift card to account, checking out with multiple gift card is still eligible as well right (maximum 8 per online transaction)?

Yes, I believe the system allows 8 GCs. All good for cashback

        • So technically, we can go get the Ultimate Gift card at Aldi or the TCN from Coles, then go to JB to get Apple gift card whcih can be loaded in to Apple account then purchase with the Black Friday sale + Cash back?

    • I bought $400 Apple gift card from Coles. So I can add the gc to my Apple account, then just pay with my account balance? Not an Apple person and never bought from Apple Store so I don’t know whether I would get the 10% Cashrewards like others asking

      • +1

Yes, you get cash back when paying with your apple account balance.

        • Hendot thanks. Sorry I’m new to Apple, I have an account I just add/redeem gift card onto my account then the balance will be in my account? Just like any other store?

      • I bought $400 Apple gift card from Coles..

        Hi
What discount rate did you get those at ?

        • +1

It was bonus flybuys points, finished a couple days ago I think. Think equate to 10% off in flybuys points

          • @dazzza: Cool
I only ask coz I was considering buying those TCN cards @15% off and then eventually converting them into Apple Cards.
But I was hoping that there might be a simpler way to do that..

            • +1

@Gervais fanboy: Some gift cards have catches whereby can’t convert from one to another etc. not sure about the tcn cards? They are eftpos cards? So use them at say jb and get Apple Card’s? It could work but a bit of work if it does but could be beneficial for a large amount. Smaller amounts easier the better for me

              • +1

                @dazzza: Absolutely

Btw yes, looking to buy a amped up MacBook 😫
So it’s probably worth the effort.

            • +3

@Gervais fanboy: if you check the mega thread for TCN … its 50:50 depending on JB hifi staff… I just did the woolies ultimate gift card as it is easier. Rather get 10% than nothing.

Also most places are sold out of TCN and left the smaller denomination or none at all.

              • @georgegates5: I was at JB Galeries Victoria and converted Ultimate cards to Apple GCs. The staff asked what gift card it was first so I think there might be certain cards they don’t allow?

              • @georgegates5:

if you check the mega thread for TCN … its 50:50 depending on JB hifi staff…

I know, I just spent half an hour going through obscure threads on this site.
I was planning to contact JB customer service first thing in the morning, to get clarity on this subject and then go on from there

Also most places are sold out of TCN and left the smaller denomination or none at all.

Damn, I didn’t even consider that might be a possibility…

              • @georgegates5:

                ultimate gift card

They don’t work at Apple, do they ?
I didn’t see Apple listed on their website..

Or are you saying I should use the Ultimate gift cards at Jb to then buy some Apple gift cards…
So Jb accepts Ultimate cards and not TCN ?

                • +2

@Gervais fanboy: go into JbHIFI and convert to gift card. When paying ,just say pay by card, swipe card -> select credit -> enter pin (as per instructions on the back). (if multiple gift card just say doing split payment by card). Do not mention paying via gift card.

I tried adding to my apple pay wallet but did not work.

See ultimate card mega thread on ozbargain.

Spot on, I understand you fully but my point is that I was planning to do the same exact thing with TCN cards, just quietly swipe and pay with them at Jb Hifi..
But the threads indicated that the staff quite often checks the kind of cards that people attempt paying with at the eftpos and they reject people using TCN cards.
My point is that if they reject TCN, they’ll probably reject Ultimate gift cards too..
Anyways, I’ll probably figure it out later today and let you all know..

              • @georgegates5: how did you do the woolies gc thing? I remember there's a limit of 8 GC right?

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

    THANKS!!!!!!!

This is what we've all been waiting for.

    Not really ;)

  • +3

    is AOC eligible?

    • +1
      • +1

Last time I tried, cash rewards wouldn't detect the checkout page on the AOC store, only the education store. This is in chrome - any tips to get it working?

      • +1

How did you jump to AOC site from regular Apple store for CR to go through? I thought AOC was considered EPP and therefore not eligible for CR?? Would be great to get confirmation if TA is about…

  • +4

hmm, the ipad air is still $999 here for the wifi model.
The price has dropped in the US to US$519 at amazon.. which is AU$769.

    So we still getting shafted.

    • Bear in mind that the US prices probably don’t include tax — so add 10% before comparing. Also, the Australian dollar isn’t a serious currency, so we’re lucky that Apple deems us worthy of purchasing their world-class products in the first place. It’s important to furnish the appropriate level of respect, and be grateful!

  • Only $100 max discount? Eyeing on Macbook pro m1 16gb , guess will be cheaper with other vendors maybe

    • +2

If it's similar to last year, they usually start with 10% cashback capped, then a 5% cashback uncapped or something after

      • Possibly 5% uncapped for cyber Monday?

  • Does it start at midnight tonight then?

    • Yes, midnight tonight :)

      • And do the Black Friday deals start at midnight do you know?

  • +1

Will it work with the AOC Apple education store?

  • Can I still purchase through the education store without needing an identity check or have they changed it now?

  • You don’t need it to buy but they can do random checks and will cancel your order.

    • I’ve made multiple AOC orders (union store, which is even cheaper than education store) and none of those times have they checked my student ID. Only drivers license

      • OP, have you ever managed to order through AOC and get CR tracked? If so can you share your tips?

      • Sure

Ineligible for cashback (updated 21/11/22): Gen 10 iPad, iPad Pro 11" & 12.9", Apple TV 4K, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch Series 8, Studio Display, Pro Display XDR, Purchase of Gift Cards, Gift Wrap, Shipping, Apple Developer Programs, Purchases via trade-ins, AppleCare purchased individually (or after associated product ships).

So what is actually included, just the airpods? Seems current gen of everything else is excluded.

    • and the old (and expensive compared to the US) ipad air.
kind of crap but if someone is buying it's better than nothing.

    • Also Apple Watch SE

  • Eligible on iPad air from the refurbished store?

Let's say iPad pros appear on there too, would these be eligible? Are the excluded iPad pros only for the latest m2 models or all including any previous gen on the refurbished store?

  • is the 10% for full purchase price, or on the price less gift card bonus value?

    • Invoiced as paying face value for gift card, and discount on the product. On this basis, cashback will be on price less gift card value.

      • So for $399 AirPods Pro 2 with $80 gift card rebate, is the 10% on $399 or $319?

        • +1

We’ll know soon enough. My gut feel is the full amount, but with Apple, anything can happen.

          • @I Smell Pennies: Don't forget to exclude GST before applying the 10% cashback.

EDIT: Replied to the wrong node. Sorry, dude!

  • Got a few questions on this deal
Can I just order something and then get a refund and still keep the voucher?
Is this voucher deal valid for the education store? So technically I should be able to get 10% off in education store + 10% cash rewards + voucher?

    • The bonus gift card is charged at the full price and the iThingy at the discount price, to avoid you doing just that. Gift cards are not returnable.

  • Oh, Friday only,

  • +1

Nice one OP - I have been debating whether I buy a Mac mini 16gb on education store and save $110 on retail, or pay retail and get a gift card. Now I can get $100 cash back on retail and still pocket a $160 gift card 💪 (legitimate education claim thankfully)

  • +1

Anybody knows how to earn the cash back while having memoji engraving on airpods pro 2? As far as I know memoji engraving is only available in Apple Store app, which can't be used with cashrewards?

    • If it can only be done via Apple store app, then sadly Cashrewards isn’t an option :(

  • Need to crunch the numbers to see if this is better than the back to uni offer where you get free AirPods

    • Apply now has the extended return period, which I think the date is early Jan? Back to uni offer may happen around the same time.

So if you are in the market for apple product, maybe buy first and decide when Back to uni offer is released in jan. Earlier the year, some countries had gift cards instead of airpods for back to uni….

      • But reading this I understand the gift card is not refundable.

So not sure how this works

I just can’t find a clear answer if Apple AOC gives you the Apple gift cards back

  • +2

10% cashback but everything you want is ineligible :)

    • +1

You must have everything else already or not need any of it.

  • +7

Step 1 - Buy $400 TCN gift card at 15% discount - DONE
Step 2 - Go to JB and convert it to $400 Apple gift card - DONE
Step 3 - Buy Airpod Pro 2 with 10% cardrewards cashback and $80 Apple bonus - Pending

Can't wait to mark it "DONE" 😍

    • Can you use tcn to buy jbhi cards?

      • You can use a TCN card to buy Apple Gift Cards at a JBHIFI

        • Thanks, how about just jbhi card ? Can you use TCN cards only to buy jbhi cards?

          • @coast666: if your TCN card has JB listed, then you can get a JB card from the TCN website.

            • @SuperKat: Thanks but how? It has JB listed, had a look TCN web site d, so confused

  • -2

Can you price match with jb hifi and still get the cash back?

    • +1

How would that work exactly? Price matching is usually done over the phone or in-store.
