Apple & Apple Education Store: 10% Cashback (Exclusions Apply, Capped at $100) @ Cashrewards

3280

This is what we've all been waiting for

Have you seen the Cashrewards Black Friday cashback increase banner everywhere? Seen the Apple logo on it and wondered when it will happen and how much the cashback will be?

Well, I reached out to TA (tightarse) last week to enquire about the upcoming upsized cashback for Apple since everyone was asking for it in relation to Apple's annual Black Friday sales (Apple Shopping Event) and he was more than happy to provide some details:

Upsized cashback rate: 10% (excl. GST)

During the 24 hour promo, cashback for Apple is capped at $100 in total per member account, irrespective of the number of transactions made. Valid 12am to 11:59pm AEDT 25/11/2022.

Best to use the Cashrewards app for the highest chance of tracking!

TA has confirmed that all cashback eligible products sold as part of the Apple Shopping Event will be applicable/eligible for the 10% upsized cashback offer, despite having a promotional bonus gift card bundled with the item.

However, cashback will still be ineligible if you purchase a standalone gift card (as always), so don't buy a standalone gift card.

Stack this upsized cashback deal with the Apple AirPods Pro 2nd Gen $399 + Bonus $80 Apple Gift Card deal for an even bigger saving on the AirPods Pro 2nd Gen, especially if using discounted gift cards to pay (yes - you can use gift cards to pay) - this is probably the best deal ever for the 2nd Gen

      • Overall you're still purchasing the 'bundle' for $399. Apple just discounts the Airpods and charge the gift card full price, so in the case if you return the Airpods, you lose $80 as they're non refundable

    • can you please tell us how long it takes to receive the 80$ GC?

      • This is what they have written in my confirmation email
Within 24 hrs of item shipping
As soon as the item is ready, we’ll send it to you at the email address you provided.

Not sure which one is true either both or the later

        • +2

My Airpods shipped 5:15am, gift cards came in 6:05am

          • @I Smell Pennies: Nice, did you add any Personalised msg, mine still showing Preparing to Ship. Won't take long, I guess.

    • +2

Have you received email from cashrewards?

      • Not yet, still waiting…

      • From past experience, I got cashrewards/Shopback confirmations a few hours after receiving my e-invoice.

  • If I use gift cards, will this show up in the receipt I.e. show payment methods?

    • +1

I bought a MBP a few months back. 99% was paid using Apple Account Balance, 1% using credit card. My invoice says "credit card"

      • +2

        Thanks for the tip!

        • +2

Just got my invoice. Paid completely in Apple credits and it still says "credit card" as payment method on invoice

  • +1

Did anyone else get charged full price after using account balance?

    • +2

      You're paying $399, but you'll get a $80 gift card later

      • How about the account balance that I used partially as payment? I thought that would deduct the total amount

    • I just checked, I got charged full amount wtf

      • You need to select use credit and apply. Then it will either deduct whole amount of whatever is left and you will need to pay balance if any after that

    • Paid with CC: got charged full price and then charged again for the GC…. still pending; tax invoice has the price less the GC! (Crafty accounting Apple). I fear for my Cashback :(
      Buyer beware!

      • So after having a look around it seems that this problem has occurred in past promos when Apple 'offered' a GC, payments would be deducted from account balance/ gift cards but you'll still get charged the full amount on card.

Will be picking up my order later today so hopefully they'll get it fixed

  • Wtf! I just bought AirPod Pro 2, and I got CHARGED another $80.

    • +1

AirPod pro 2 should be charged at $319, and the gift card charged at $80. Total: $399

      • I got charged $289 and then $80. I used $110 gift card for the transaction, so it’s $399-110= $289

      • "Should be…" Amex has charges from apple at $399 and $80 😡

    • Same! My credit is still in my account I just checked…

    • Same

      • +1

Just confirming - is the issue that for people paying via account balance for part payment are being charged for the gift card instead of being provided as a bonus? About to place a purchase for a MacBook and don’t want any issues when purchasing…

        • For me, the "paperwork/documentation/receipts" is all correct and as advertised with the promo, but it appears I've been charged for the "bonus" GC (in addition to the full priced AirPods)
No sign of Cashback yet either…
Hopefully just an anomaly that both the full price item and the gift card have been charged (I'm hoping like a pre-authorisation), but check your statements!

  • Thanks, used it

  • Hello, do I have this right? As I'm a bit of a n00b to this and after an iphone 13 mini… Thinking of getting coles gift cards (5% off with Optus rewards), using them to buy TCN cards at 15% off, then use the TCN cards to get apple gift cards at JB Hi fi, then use the gift cards to buy the iphone online with cashrewards… would that work?

    • +2

Don’t think you can buy gift cards with gift cards at coles

      • +1

That's not what I heard on ozbargain, but it's a moot point anyway - TCN Home cards are out of stock everywhere

  • Bought Apple Pencil 2 and got gift card bonus in 40 mins in email.

Still waiting for tracking to show up in Cashrewards

  • +1

Those who buying multiple items and more than the $100 cash back limit, can also look at Shopback who bump up their cash back at 6.5%. Looks like similar restrictions as well with the products and may not get cashback on the Gift Card given for Black Friday deal.

    • +1

No cap at shopback. So you may get more $ back if you are buying big items.

      • +1

Did anyone find if there are any restrictions on payment with apple store credit (gift card) for shopback.

6.5% is better than the 10% in my instance

        • Also in the same boat here. ShopBack don’t seem to be available via their live chat so not sure who to contact. @gotyourback?

        • can't see that as a condition on their website.

          >

          • @sfac: Yep agreed it doesn't seem to exclude online credit but would still like some confirmation before placing an order - Cashrewards seems safer at the moment with it explicitly listed…

          • @sfac: @MosaicClub Just scrolling through the forums, found this response from netsurfer: "I redeemed all my gift cards in advance, bought an item (and picked using credits on the account), received the cashback later on. Was using Shopback, but this should be the same."

So I think we can use apple store credit for shopback too

        • I have used Apple Store credit to purchase before using ShopBack and got the cashback.

      • So does the ShopBack cashback not stack with the Apple GC Black Friday bonus?

        • it does stack because you cant checkout without the bonus GC promo being applied

  • Just placed a Mac Mini order (16gb ram) - 2 seperate charges on credit card for $160 and $1239, equaling the $1399 expected total. Basically you’re buying a gift card and getting that value discounted from the promo item. So I am not sure whether cashback will go off the total purchase prices, or the purchase price minus GC value based on how you get charged. Either way capped at $100, it won’t matter for large items I suppose, you’d still hit the $100 max cashback.

Now to wait for cashrewards to confirm the cashback being tracked (purchased using cashrewards app)!

    • So you didn’t get the same issue people above who bought the AirPods got right? Did you purchase entirely using account balance?

      • +1

I bought a $219 Apple Pencil 2 and used Apple ID balance.

$219 was deducted from the balance and I got the $40 gift card soon after.

      • Purchased using credit card, but no issue like above, I got charged the correct total, just in 2 transactions.

  • If I buy an iPhone 13 256gb, is that $1399 with 10% cashback and an $80 gift card?

  • capped $100

  • Hm.. still waiting for my order to be processed/shipped so I can get the GC to buy another item. Hopefully it comes before the bonus CB period ends

  • Is the gift card included if you purchase from the education store? It doesn't seem clear on the website.

    • I don't think so. Only from main store

  • Hold on, normal store is cheaper than education store for M1???

    Edu store = $1350 - $100 = $1250
    Normal = $1500 - $240GC - $100 = $1160?

No way to use the GC on the same purchase tho…

    • Just go to officeworks and show them amazons price 🤫 instant saving at $1184
not worth the hassle of cash back and gift cards which aren’t really a discount as you still have to pay the money upfront (gift cards)

Use the Prezzee bonus $10 on $150 bf gift card for bigger saving

  • Can someone share is there a discount on ultimate gift card from Aldi or woolies and how do I get that? And do I simply use it at JBHIFI to get apple gift cards?
detailed steps would be appreciated and helpful and yes I have read all the comments but no one mentioned discount on the ultimate gift card and how to get that?

    • It’s finsihed unfortunately

      • Aldi is doing 10% off on Ultimate cards and according to comment plenty across many store.

I think people just want the Amazon cards in the Aldi deal. Those who want the Ultimate card would have stock up in the Big W double dip deal already.

PS: If you don't know what is the BIG W double dip deal, please DONT'T ask, its gone thanks to morons who repost the trick as a deal.

        • +1

I got lucky and double dip the double dip promo by doing a double trip to big w but … wish I could have continued the dip that kept dipping

          • @RichieVn: Sounds like the dip is full of your saliva by now…

  • I can’t find the Apple education store through cashrewards? Just the normal Apple store

  • hi how do we make the most of the 15% TCN gift cards from coles? they only sell $50 and $100 gift cards. Are we expected to 8 or 4 to accumulate upto $400? If so, how do we then use them to pay for a $400 Apple giftcard ag Jb-hifi? never had experience with these before sorry

    • You have to buy/use multiple gift cards to make up the value of your purchase, takes a a few minutes to purchase and pay with multiple gift cards, get organised and happy Black Friday sales!

  • I just purchased a MacBook through the Cashrewards app, but it was logged in with my husband’s account where the Apple ID is mine. So will my husband get his $100 cash back from Cashrewards? Was done a few hours ago but still no tracking as yet.
    Please advise and thank you.

    • As far as I know there is no need to have same login etc required as long as the cashrewards app is open it would pickup the transaction.

There might be a lot of transactions happening so taking longer to process

  • MacBook Pro 14 inch OOS for Click & Collect Sydney

  • no deals for ipad 10th gen or 9th gen?

    • +1

Nothing for the 10th gen iPad (guess it’s still too new), but this 10% CR should work for the 9th gen since it’s not specifically listed as ineligible in OP.

Apple is also offering a $45 GC with the 9th gen iPad (https://www.apple.com/au/shop/gifts/shopping-event), but given its RRP went up to $549 last month, it’s effectively $504 which is $5 more than the old $499 RRP. So not quite as good as the Amazon deal a few weeks ago, even after you add the cash back.

      • +1

True, would be decent if you had brought some Apple GC with the discount from Flybuys 20x points (10%) / TCN (15%)

  • +1

This could be used as part of a stacking of several discounts to get (for example) the base model 14-inch MacBook Pro (RRP $2999) for less than $400 out of pocket… if you already had all your ducks in a row:

    • Churn a credit card for the rewards, e.g. Westpac Altitude Rewards Platinum - $550 or 18.33%
    • Use that credit card to buy discounted Mastercard Gift Cards from Coles - ~7.5%
    • Use those Mastercard Gift Cards to buy Apple Gift Cards with 20x Everyday Rewards/Flybuys points - 10%
    • Buy through Cashrewards for another $100 off. Use the Apple Education store for $230 off RRP.
    • Get a $400 Apple Gift Card through their Black Friday promotion.
    • Salary sacrifice the MacBook or claim it as a tax deduction because you use it for work. Varies depending on your tax rate.

That's 35.83% off from the credit card and gift cards. Plus your tax rate, plus $500 from the Cashrewards and Apple promotions. That works out to $376.94 if your tax rate is 32.5%, $252.33 if nyour tax rate is 37% or $30.82 if your tax rate is 45%.

Of course the 'savings' are in the form of gift cards, supermarket points, etc.

    • +1

It's either gift card or education store, not both.

    • I dont think the second part of the 4th point works as the bonus gc doesn't apply to education store
Also more savings with 6.5% shopback for larger purchases as it is uncapped

      But great breakdown!

    • @wordsmith @MosaicCub yep, you're both right. I hadn't noticed that.

I think then the best combination would have been:
      * 18.33% from churning a credit card
      * 7.5% from Mastercard Gift Card
      * 15% from TCN gift cards (Buy Apple GCs from JB HiFi with these)
      * 6.5% from Shopback

That's 47.33% before any other promotion or tax benefits.

      So $204.89 @ 32.5% tax rate or $69.94 @ 37%. Nice.

  • Cheddar has a 5% cashback for Apple at the moment, I couldn't see anything in the T&C about it being capped.
Good for those making a purchase > 2k
Not available on M2 model MacBook models.
It does say: "offer cannot be combined with any other offers or promo codes not listed on the cheddar app" so unsure about that promotional bonus gift card

  • anyone if Apple Watch SE will get the cashback?

    • Yep, it’s not listed in the exclusions above

    • As above, not in exclusions

    • Sure hope so, picked one up this morning. The GC came through quickly from Apple at least.

      • Well, I haf some good news und I haf some bad news…

Good news is I just received notification of the cashback and it is 10%. Bad news is that it’s 10% of an incomprehensible amount that’s nowhere near the full price of the 40mm Apple Watch SE ($399) I paid this morning.

The amount is not quite half of $290, which is the amount after deducting the $80 GC we get from Apple for buying the watch during the BF/C/M weekend and then subtracting GST from the remaining $319. No idea where they pulled that figure out from.

Ah, the dark arts of cashback! I would’ve been miffed if I only bought the watch today due to the promise of the 10% cashback, but it was the Apple GC that had already made me decide, so guess it was just a little bonus—disappointingly little as it turned out to be.

  • Has anyones purchase tracked?

    • Nothing yet!!!

    • Nope, bought using GCs at around ??:zz AM this morning

    • Wait for a few hours after you get the e-invoice. From my last purchases they track 2-4hours after I got my e-invoice.

      • Nothing since 10am

      • my last purchase took like 4 days before I got the tracking

    • Original post says it can take between 2-7 days

  • I bought ipad air 5th gen through cashrewards app but cashback is not tracking?

    • Important: Cashback tracks to member accounts between 2-7 days after you receive confirmation from Apple that the product has been shipped.

      • thanks!

        • did yours track?
mine tracked in about 3.5hrs after ordering.

          • @bohn: nope…. still not tracked…. wonder how long it will take or if cashback will track correctly at all….

          • @bohn: Was your order passed processing when you received the cashrewards notification?

  • Received my invoice excluding gst invoice is only for 290 (Apple has deducted 80 from item price itself). So basically only $29 cashback.

    • Same, I received an invoice for my Apple Watch net of the $80 and then a separate invoice for $80 gift card. I was intending for a TRS refund as well. How disappointing!

      • TRS is min $300 including GST isn't it?

From the above, I understand the 320 would be the price on the invoice so should still be okay to claim TRS?
