    Rtx 3050 sub $900
This is brutal for me who bought acer aspire 7 for $854 - gtx 1650!

    • Return the Acer Aspire 7… change of mind policy?

      • +9

I used already, got it on Thursday. Opened the box, can i still return it?
Never mind, I checked Acer website, no change of mind.

        • -8

Then open the laptop up, remove cables inside, close it back up and return it to Harvey Norman saying it’s faulty. Ask for a refund and not repair.

Let the comments flood in 😁

      • The Acer is more portable if that helps :)

      • +2

change of mind policy doesn't actually fall under ACL, while some businesses will honour it, they don't legally have to.

I'll comfort you as those looking here also missed the one below,

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/742180

    • patience is the key. almost got that jb asus tuf for $1049 but really wanted 3060 at reasonable price.

  • +2

i was tempted but looks like its similar to a 1650ti i bough last year for $800 (gf65 thin)

    • There's a pretty sizable jump actually. And low end MSIs are… a totally different breed compared to every other budget gaming laptops nowadays really. Obviously you already bought it a long time ago so its no use saying you should upgrade now. But I wouldnt buy a low end msi again if i were you mate.

    Windows fly with 8 gigs

If only there was a way to double it for $40

  • +9

Amazing price and much better than the 5500m deal:

    • 3050 even if terrible compared to 3060 still a decent gain over 5500m esp once dlss is factored in, the latter is just too old

    • single stick 8gb ram so you only need one more stick for dual channel 16gb vs 2*4 on the other deal so you need to replace both stock sticks.

    • 300 nits screen with ~100% srgb instead of the 250 nit ~62.5% srgb screen on the 5500m deal

    • Was wondering if the 5500m was worth the $100 price difference. Thanks for pointing those out. Might get this one instead.

  • Anyone know the watts on the 3050?

    • +5

      Yep the whats are:
      - WTF is this awful frame rate!?
      - WTF did I buy this for!?
      - WTF were they thinking!?
      - What 20 year old game can I put on that will play well!?

This comment needs more positive votes

Unless you only want one very specific game and don't want to play upcoming stuff, either go hard(ish) or forget having discrete gfx on laptops.

        • +3

Save your breath. This place can be humourless and the anonymous downvote mechanic can become nothing more than a pile on. At least the admins have stopped trying to encourage me to seek out mental health services for pointing out how toxic anonymous downvoting is.

          • +1

@syousef: Hey, you appreciated it so job done :)

Don't forget how 3 neg revocations in 90 days, half of which will be a mod being incorrect, stops you negging. So much of the penalty box here is heavy handed (all timeframes too long) and the bulk of what it "achieves" is you can't provide beneficial input to other people

          • +1

@syousef: your joke is fine, gave it a positive vote. Downvoted this comment for the complaining that more people didn't like your joke than liked it though - suppose your solution is remove the downvotes specifically, like YouTube, so there's only ever positivity™?

            • +3

@Ponka: No. I don't want the downvotes removed. Just the anonymity. If someone is being toxic constantly it should be transparent. And putting your name behind a downvote gives pause so less dogpile. I don't see the anonymity actually preventing people from bullying each other - I see it as facilitating bullying and mob mentality.

As for your downvoting my comment complaining, I don't get it. You're saying my complaint is legit, and resulted in an upvote but you don't want me to complain (which means you wouldn't have upvoted in the first place). Um, ok.

Is this any good for work/movies laptop?

    • +3

No, only buy this if you're playing games or using the GPU. There are way better laptops for work / movies that are not 2.5kg with bad battery life and so-so nits. Better to search laptop on ozbargain and buy a non gaming one

      • +3

Thanks, looking for something $900 or less. Any recommendations

        • +2

In all honesty, take a look at second hand Lenovo X1 laptops. They're great, and you'll be keeping one out of the landfill for a few years. Just make sure you get one that's 8th gen Intel onwards. Anything below won't officially be supported on Windows 11.

Recently bought an X1 Yoga 3rd gen. Less than $500, and works great. X1's are their top of the range models.

I just got this deal as a work laptop. I personally have a Asus G14 gaming laptop (using it as a desktop) - but too heavy to travel and to see clients.

Look forward to the U9311, with a sub 1kg weight.

The 3060 version for $1,099 couple days ago seemed to be a better deal imo lol

  • -2

Is is fair to label a 3050 based laptop as "gaming"

    • +12

Yes, with 16gb RAM it can play almost all triple A with good fps at 1080p.

You can still very much enjoy modern games. Cyberpunk Medium at 40fps (or 45-50 with better watted 3050s with mux or outputted to external monitor) is still very playable for something with such extreme budget price. Lots of other games have much lower requirements than Cyberpunk.

You can destroy any online games available today.

Those saying 3050 can't play anything have zero experience with the card or benchmarks

    • +1

Yes. Not everyone needs to play AAA titles. Loads of people play lol or dota, Cs, overwatch, Diablo and heaps of other games from a decade or two ago. Just because it doesn't match up to the performance of a 3070 or above doesn't mean it's stunted so hard it's useless.

  • No thunderbolt but still very good price!

  • I bought this laptop years ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/286367
Is the HP much of an upgrade over my old gaming laptop? How much would my laptop be worth?

    • In terms of performance don't think it I'll be a huge difference maybe 10-15% GPU wise, but in terms of age and reliability wise will be better to have something newer vs a 5 year old laptop.

Second hand maybe $500-600 for your old one if you're lucky. But might be lower or possibly higher depending on the person and what they are willing to pay.

  • Damn. I purchased this deal but have yet to pick it up.

Should I swap it for the victus if I just want to play my old steam games on my tv?

    • +1

yeah, just give this another 8gb ram upgrade and ur set.

    • +1

I purchased the same Acer a couple days ago. Waiting for delivery.

I would not swap the Acer cause it has better CPU, better battery, 16GB ram and more portability than the Victus.

  • Much prefer the $1,098 Victus from a few days ago.

    • Yep it is pretty nice!

  • Can someone please point out what 8gb ram i would need to buy from Umart for this? Bought one for my niece for christmas.

    • You need to get a DDR4 SODIMM that is rated at 3200. You will need to open up the laptop and find out what is used anyway. It's better to have the same DDR4.

      • hi there! so can I buy any ram ddr4 3200mhz? Would I be able to buy a 16gb to use in the other slot?

  • +1

How accurate is 8 hrs and 45 mins battery life? I imagine you would have to configure a lot of settings to achieve this.

    • +1

Video cards as well is different.

  • Would this laptop be good for video editing?

  • Got one from Harvey Norman today. But the salesman scammed me the extra warranty for another $99 for 12 months…..

    • Lol yes ACL would have deemed you get that warranty free

    • How do u like it - is the screen good and is the fan loud?

      • +1

The fans are loud. But if you're using noise cancelling headphones they're non-existent 🤣

  • An innocent question. :) What's the color gamut on this.

  • +1

anyone else have theirs come with a 3050ti instead of a 3050?

  • +1, mine is 3050Ti. This is better deal than Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

  • +1

Thank you got one as well with Ti,
