  • Worth to upgrade from XM3, or wait for XM5?

    • +3

I upgraded from the XM3 and would say it's well worth it IMO.

      • The 3 kept falling out my ear, despite the rubber tip used. Does this one fit better?

        • Yes, this was mentioned in reviews and I personally found it way better. 3s would fall out just sitting there, 4s I can take on a run. Love mine

    • +2

XM5 hasn't even been announced yet, let alone a drop date. But agree there's a huge difference between XM3 and XM4 that it's worth the upgrade.

      • I find the fit of these much better than I did with the XM3.

    • +1

Lost my XM3's, replaced with XM4's, also chiming in to say they are heaps better quality wise.

    • i had XM3, one earpiece would cut out quite frequently.

I bought XM5, but the ANC didn't work. It was barely noticeable. People are telling me I'm not getting the right seal, but that's BS. I even used the eartips from my XM3, same thing. I tried all the tips it came with and no difference.

      • +1

Lets not compare WF with WH series as they are for different purpose.

        • I am talking about WF. But I meant XM4 when I said XM5.

    • And wait another 12 month to prices to come down ? Lol

  • Can you use gift cards online

    • Yes you can.

World's First Truly Wireless headphone with Hi-res Audio Wireless and LDAC

Surprisingly a lot of non-Sony TWS with LDAC decoders floating around now. I suppose it's only natural they get first dibs.

I've seen both Airoha/Mediatek (naturally, as they're in the Sony's too) and BES with them.

Up to 24 hours battery life & Quick charging

There are some yikes issues regarding firmware and permanently degraded battery life on one headset side. Basically, check the firmware version of both sides when you receive yours, and do not use them with 1.4.2 loaded. If it's earlier, that's fine. Just not 1.4.2.

I'm not sure if 1.6.1 has been released globally, so you may have to jank force it via proxy and modified headphones app on Android (sigh).

Mixed reports on whether you have to fight Sony AU on replacements.

There's also the multipoint update which is supposed to be out vaguely soon. So no simultaneous multi-device usage until that's out.

    • Now I'm worried I just checked and I've been using mine on 1.4.2.

Looks like there is an update available however so I'll update them now…

    • Have received 1.6.1 firmware 2 days ago.

      • Just updated to 1.6.1 myself.

    • Ive been using mine on 1.4.2 without any issues….

    • What's the deal with 1.4.2? Maybe some relevant links to what you're talking about might be helpful

Good Sound but not a great fit for my ear. More of an office use than active space.

Brought mine on the eBay store referb - $190ish

  • Anyone have thoughts on vs lg lp5 which are $100, hace heard lg are just as good

  • How do these compare to air pods 2 pro or jabra elite actives? really want a pair to go exercising with but could also be used as a daily

    • Sony are better than Jabra for SQ.
For exercising, get buds designed for exercising, not these as they will fall out.

  • +1

I just bought this at $299 two days ago..
Upgrade over XM3, the comfort is much better.
Love ANC. I use it for work to cancel out loud noises while also still be able to hear people talk aswell.
Sometimes it does slip out with the default ear pieces, switch out to smaller foam sie and it's much better.
I had Jabra 85t and that died few hours. Meaning the ear piece wouldn't turn on anymore despite Charging.

  • Mine just updated out of the box. Have been amazing so far.

  • Picked up some of these open box from eBay a couple of weeks ago for $180. They sound awesome with some tweaks. The included foam tips did not fit my ears well, when changed with some large Moondrop Spintips I had on hand the fit is great and sound improved. So well worth experimenting with any spare tips you have on hand.

Also, the stock EQ can be improved IMHO. I like the EQ mentioned in Mark Ryan's review.

If I don't want ANC what's the best in ear headphones around this range.

    • You can turn it off on these in the app.

    • If you turn off ANC, the battery will last longer. ANC for occasional use like when travelling in an aircraft is great

  • +2

I'm so disappointed with the XM3s i think I would struggle to buy any Sony wireless in future.

    • I bought a pair from the BF Amazon deal and I thought the ANC was a bit underwhelming. I wasn’t expecting them to be as good as my over ear XM3s but they’re not that much better than other non-ANC in ear buds I own already. Sound is so-so. Was definitely expecting much more for the price point.

      • Seems like you aren’t using the right ear tips for your ear. ANC should be better than XM3 headphone. It’s close to XM5 headphone.

Sound is so-so out of the box but if you muck around with EQ then you will find it pretty good. Not amazing.

        • What eartips is everyone using?

          • +1

@Chickenleg: If ANC is your priority, Comply tips are amazing. Better than the stock foam tips from Sony, they are much thicker and so blocks more noise and have more grip.

            • @tjioer: That may be right but for ANC headphones the tips they supply should do the job out of the box. Having to mod a product just to do what its supposed to do is not good enough.

  • Bought these in the last sale… Seriously underwhelming.

Max volume is only what you'd call easy listening.

    • +1

Are you getting a good fit from the tips? Did you do the fit test in the app? Mine are plenty loud, but I switched to silicone tips for a better fit.

  • +1

Are these comfortable to sleep with side on?

    • Watch the review I linked above. Mark always says how good IEMs are for sleeping. But, I can't remember what he said for these.

    • +1

No, not really. They're bulbous so it will get uncomfortable unless you have a thick pillow?

    • No. None of them are good for sleeping. Unless you got a huge ear.

  • Hey does anyone know if it's possible to economical get a replacement charging case for these?

    • +1

My dog got a hold of my case and Sony customer support pointed me to these guys for an official Charging Case. It's not cheap at $95, so since mine still works (the hinge may snap over time) I'm just dealing with it. I couldn't find a 3rd party replacement anywhere.

  • these are pretty crappy

    dont believe the hype

the jabra 7 elite pro not only sound better, the fitment is 100% better,

  • -1

I'd advise against the XM4s personally, after a lot of deliberation between the Airpods Pro, Bose QC2 and Sony XM4's I settled on the Airpods Pro after returning the Sonys which was a shame as the sound quality of the XM4 is the best in market for this category.

    The two primary issues are:
    - The poor fit being a common issue, the stock tips would not stay in, custom tips helped but they were still susceptible to falling out
    - A metallic 'pinging' sound was audible whenever listening to audio that wasn't music. e.g. Podcasts, Teams calls etc. Turning off the ANC made it less noticeable but could be replicated by clacking teeth. Others had varying success with replacement buds but personally it's a design defect.

  • +1

I have no idea why some are complaining. I have these and use them all the time. I fly on average about once a week and use them all the time on the plane and when I go for a walk in cities.

I find the noise cancelling similar to my WH1000XM3. I prefer to use the WFXM4 since it's more convenient to carry and take on/off. The ANC is good enough to make a very noticable difference on a Qantas Dash 8. It's also good enough so that I actually didn't notice a 787 take off. ANC definitely makes a difference when walking next to a busy road too.

Loudness is fine and often depends on the source. Netflix on the plane is usually played at around 40% loudness.

I wouldn't say I would use these to sleep with on the side. I've slept face up/down with them before and no issues. Long haul I use ear plugs anyway.

  • How are these compared to the Airpods Pro in terms of mic quality?

Boss is looking for a new pair with better mic quality for calls, and says she is getting complaints about how she sounds with the Airpods.

    • AirPods Pro 2 still beats XM4 for mic. But reviewers said Sony link buds S is better than AirPods Pro 2.

But overall AirPods Pro 2 still beats Linkbuds S.

      • is that the same for Airpods pro v1? she doesn't have v2

  • I grabbed a pair of these from the black friday sales, have been using for a few weeks now and they are great.

  • I have both the in-ear and the over-ear in the 4x series and they are both easily the best headphones I've had.

waiting for this to drop to $199

can get OW to price match Jackdeals and bring it to $254.6 - make sure you call officeworks 1300 number and not your local store and pay over the phone and arrange C&C.

  • Nice deal. Would have bought these had i not Picked up the XM5 this morning to replace my XM3s that I lost at the gym….

  • how well do these pick up your voice and reduce background noise when commuting or in a noisy cafe?

  • I bought this from JB hi-fi less then a week ago for $299.

Does anybody know if they'll refund the difference? Or shall I just return it and buy again

    • They should unless policy has changed.
Contact the store you got it from to check but you have to go in person with your receipt.

  • This or AirPods Pro 2nd gen?

  • This or galaxy buds 2 pro? They're discounted on Amazon atm.

  • Bass?
