        I prefer the fit of the Bose, the Sony gives me sore ears after about an hour. I have a giant head, so take that into account. I can't buy hats that fit.

        Use the Bose NC700 everyday for WFH.
        Sony are better for listening and comfort.

          This Bose 700 is my first headset of this price range. It brings pain to the inner parts of my ears after about 5 minutes with NC on. I'm not sure whether that's normal with ANC headphones.

            @Averell: I have read similar things about Bose noise cancelling, but it really is a personal thing. Would recommend trying out some Sony's at a store demo sometime, you may have a better experience.

              @hjcoggan: Thanks. I tried at a nearby JB Hifi store, but couldn't find a way to control ANC. Will try to ask around next time.

                @Averell: You mean the amount of ANC? It's all controlled in the Sony Headphones App. to turn on and off ANC there's a button on the side (cycle between ambient sound, off and on). Pairing mode is just hold down power until it tells you it's in pairing. For next time!

        I actually like the Bose sound more. That said I use both more so when watching movies. The Sony's have more bass but the xm4 I feel have the best comfort.

          when i said noise handling as in, how well the otherside can hear noise from your end, not ANC.

            @humbala: When I walking along a busy suburban main road with my XM5 having a normal phone call, no one can hear the car noise around me. The XM5 has really good noise cancellation with the surroundings. All the reviews I’ve seen and compared with 700 says XM5 is better.

          Bose have better mics this site isn't biased you can listen to recordings from both.

          I do enough teams calls to know when the other side has a bose 700 just from the audio. Sony isn't bad but Bose is notably better in recording quality.

      Go to Jb-Hifi and listen. I prefer the sound of these to the Sony. Let your ears decide.

      I use the XM5s for day-to-day ops and the QC45s for air-travel only (paired with an AirFly Pro)
      The XM5s are brilliant for normal use with the best sound quality imo and a pretty intelligent app - its a little bit shallow in my ears but anywho
      The QC45s are brilliant when it comes to long term comfort and ANC - its inferior to sound quality over the XM5s but for 8+ hour flights you can start to feel the difference.

      TLDR; Buy the XM5s or the QC700s for normal day to day use | Buy the QC45s if the sole use is going to be for long haul air travel

        I've had XM3, QC35, XM5 & QC45.
        From what I have read, the QC45 are better than the Bose 700's so never bought the the 700s.

        If I were to rate them all, the XM5 once its connected to the Sony headphones app is by far the superior out of the bunch for both daily usability & sound followed by QC45, QC35 & XM3. Sony stepped up from the XM3's model. Didn't try the XM4's. Still have all 4 headphones and a 450BT I use at the gym.

          Yeah I'd have to agree with that ranking, I have owned all Bose headphones from the good old QC15s when they were still endorsed by American Airlines, and same on the Sony end from the XM3s. The jump in quality between the XM3s and the XM4s were huge. I do prefer the QC45s over the 700s but if you need a mix of both worlds, I do think that the QC700s meet that criteria of being a middle option between the QC45s and the XM5s.

          If Bose can redo its app, I think the QC45s and the QC700s would be positioned far better against the XM5s - but the XM5s in 75% of all circumstances will win over Bose (except for the A20s ;)) the only reason why I still use the QC45s are for the long day flights from Europe heading home or heading towards the states. I have tried the XM4s before and the clamp was pretty good but not perfect - ended up taking them off after 5 hours.

          The thing about headphones is that its very subjective. I have the definition of a egg head, some people might be better suited towards the XM5s and you might have different opinions about the sound quality of said headset. Head to JB or stop by at the electronics section of duty free and take a listen.

      Yeah, best bet would be QC25, however those headphones have cables specifically for iDevices or Androids. It's to do with the volume control button.

      So you'll have to buy the correct version for your device.

    I'm avoiding the SONY as their shallow earcups press on my ears and hurt them

    I'm avoiding the 700s as I dislike the hard plastic non-adjustable headband.

    I've read of software problems with the QC45

    So I'm happy with my QC35ii for long-term comfort on 10-hour flights - we have 2 pairs - a QC35 and a QC35ii.

    Price matched at jb today

    First the good old BS re it is already on special and we won't make any money.

    Then I showed him my last year's lighting deal for $299 and of course be couldnt match that.

    Then I asked him to match the current Amazon deal and he said he can't because it says delivery Jan 4 . Just all excuses not to match but then I pulled out my phone showing him it now says Dec 28 delivery.

    Went across the street to buy an ultimate gift card to maximise impact. Done
