Perhaps the brands sold there are actually Sauny and Shrap? :)

HAHAHAHAHA very funny being most things you own come from asia.

        It's a genuine Panafonics.

  • the chinese are the Video Tape killer. they flood the economy with cheap DVD player and blanks.
make me wonder how does Blockbuster/Video Ezy(still exists?) live.

    • +10

The Chinese DVD (and now Blu-ray) players are the saviours of free market DVD/Blu-ray trade. Prior to cheap Chinese players appearing on the market all local DVD players were locked to Region 4. Legitimately bought a genuine DVD disc overseas? Stiff. Sony says no. The Chinese built players that ignored all the silly Region 1 to 5 and A/B/C nonsense, and thank goodness they did. I recently bought a Kogan blu-ray player because my PS3 gets angsty when I present it with a Region A disc.

What's slowly killing the local video store is downloadable content. Nothing will stop that.

      • +2

        Godzilla will stop that.

      • I dont understand how they have survived this long really. Movie downloads have been super easy and fast for quite some years now. You would have to have rocks in your heard if you bought a video store now.

  • This is a great deal for my old VCR except all the DSEs near me have already sold out of these tapes

      yeh ten years ago

    • this shouldn't still be an issue for you !

  • Can you use these for backing up the Internet?

    Any deals on Laserdiscs?

    • They're in the discount bin with the Jaguar games.

      • now that's a one percent-er

      • And in the discount bin with the music cartridges and cassettes.

        And the K-tel album selector.

  • I still have two dozen of these and audio tapes in my basement. The machine that needed to use them are all dead.

  • +2

40c per monitor riser is pretty alright.

  • Do they go in picture side up or picture side down?

  • +1

Remember how bad pausing used to be? And then when the picture starts getting bad, you use the tracking function on your remote. Hardc0re!

    • the white fuzy lines access the tv haha!

      • +5

funny how that always used to occur at nude scenes in movies… tape very worn out at those parts for some reason ;).

        • the arrival…. hahaha

        • +1

The arrival? Did someone just come?

    • I haven't had a tracking function on a VCR since the 1990s. My current VCR (a Sony from 2001) has auto-tracking - you can't even manually adjust it if you try.

My 80+ year old mother in law insists on using tapes and refuses to learn any of the new stuff. For her VHS are perfect, press record, go to bed, next night watch rest of movie.

This deal would be great if it was posted in 1996. Not to worry, here is Ozbargain from 1996, complete with high-contrast elements, animated objects everywhere, Comic Sans, and a soundtrack! : http://wonder-tonic.com/geocitiesizer/content.php?theme=1&ur…

My mum's still a big fan of the VHS - for the grandkids. Swears they're nearly kidproof, and she buys all the old cartoons and kids movies from the op shops for 50c - $1 each.

    • That's actually pretty smart.

My younger cousin has gone through (literally) three DVDs of a Tom and Jerry movie in less than a few months.

I mean, he's a terror, but there's no denying that VHS would probably be harder to destroy. :P

      • Challenge accepted!

    • My local op shop sells VHS tapes for all of 10c a piece. The other week they had what looked to be an entire Star Trek collection and also cricket ones from the Merv Hughes era. DVD's are complete rip-off - 50c! Usually they are bad Kung Fu movies.

  • lolll head cleaned!! heheh
Ahh the Good ol days :). I remember I used to pause then play/rec to cut out commercials. even ripped the tab out and press rec so it could eject. :). Still gotta LG hybrid (vhs —> dvd rec)and an old National top loader sitting in the garage i think.

  • I re-employed my LG VCR to record Austar (via an analogue MATV setup in a block of flats) after my analogue PVR/DVD recorder gave up the ghost a year or so ago. Hard to find a replacement PVR so I'm open to suggestions.
My local Dick has these so I've ordered a new pack to replace my current TDK 5 pack.

TDK does amazing things to my system.

    • +1

That jingle is gonna be in my head for days now, thanks!

TDK does a—-maaaaaaz—-ing things, TDK does a—maaaaz—-ing things, TDK does a-maz-ing things to my system…..pause………to my system.

  • Can't believe so many votes. I have a whole 3 boxes full of vhs tapes, can't even give them away.

  • +1

I've purchased this to confuse and frighten my grandchildren in case I lose my 5 1/4" floppy drive.

  • Almost 100! Well done OP!

  • I have no intention to purchase this but I'm happy it's on the front page as some of the comments here are hilarious. :D

  • 5 x crap = crap

    :-)

Nothing like pausing a video to look at something more closely… awhh what :(

  • Free nostalgia, awesome deal!

  • Ah the memory's 1970s.

  • I know one man who would be thrilled

  • I didn't know they still made and sold VHS tapes. I stopped buying and watching vhs when my vcr stopped working one day. Went out and purchased a PVR. Best move I ever did. The quality of VHS does not live up to digital video standard in todays market.

Check out this guy throwing out trash bag loads of old video tapes.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOQLJxc9Qxo

    • U moved from VHS to PVR???

  • All sold out around where I live. Oh well.

  • In 1998 I bought my first DVD player and I haven't look back, however a family member bought me the Phantom Menance a year later on VHS, I back handed them for the double insult.

VHS had its time in the Sun, but for me finding someone hadn't rewinded the tape back after they last watched it was just too frustrating to continue with.

    • At least having to rewind a tape was based on an honest and sincere limitation of the technology, whereas the main time-wasting annoyances on DVD (UOPs aka unskippables) are artificial, control-freak driven restrictions.

  • My local store had one pack left so i grabbed it.

I kinda wanna hook a blu ray player up to my VCR and see what the quality is like, lol.

    • The quality is just as bad if not worse than bought VHS movies.

  • +2

Picked up my VHS tapes today.

  • If only home entertainment technology was like clothes. Hang onto them long enough, and they are fashionable again.

    • VHS is back, in black…well thats what she said!

  • wow, we're still buying Video Tapes?
    lol….

  • Ok, I got the tapes…now I need a VCR.

I think I'll go around asking HN, DickSmith etc for a VCR just for the lulz

    • Lol, I think they mostly exist as DVD/DVD-recorder, VHS combo systems nowadays in shops. Although I think I saw a separate VHS player being sold at the good guys a few months back. I myself have a samsung DVD-recorder, VHS combo with HDMI output for the main tele. I have used the DVD recorder to convert tapes to DVD and it has worked great. And its really great to have when you want to play back classic tapes like Lion King when kids come over. =D
