$400 Gift Card on Telstra 60GB/M $69/M 12-Month BYO SIM Plan (New/Port-in Customers, in-Store Only) @ JB Hi-Fi or The Good Guys

1260

$69 per month for 12 months with 60GB data + 40GB bonus data and a $400 gift card. Similar to previous deals. $400 seems to be the best offer recently. Not sure if we can still request an additional $10 monthly credit from Telstra.

The Good guys has a similar deal but no bonus data, only 60GB per month.

        • It's an if, I only is my mobile data for work when I need to go interstate. At home I just use NBN.

    • Boost is telstra 4g for $150 and 140gb a year.

      • $150 first year, $200 per year thereafter, and you are dealing with an intermediary reseller if any issues, but also good value.

        • I was able to get 2 years after at $150 and 140gb just through chat. What issues would you expect? I think it's incredible value, considering it's $12.50 - $16.66 per month. I used to pay $49 for myself plus $59 for my partner each month, now just $25 a month. This means we now get multiple streaming services for free with the savings haha ;-)

      • Gd luck with having a esim watch plan

        • Why would I need that? With the money I saved I bought a real watch šŸ˜

    • +1

If you have this much data you never have to think about how much data you have.

    • Yes, I usually use about 120 Gb/month or more on my mobile plan.

  • Does anyone know if these plans now come with international calling inclusions?

    • +1

      No

    • +2

It's a nightmare. You can't even add it on.

    • It's not included, my brother forgot and made 1 international phone call for an hour which cost him $85.
Always be aware of what is included in your plan, mate.

  • Still not as good as the recent offers where they would give you a free or discounted phone. I managed to return the phone and get the value back in the form of a gift card.

    $69/month for 12 months plan
-$20/month by asking Telstra (so $588 total)
Free Pixel 6a (returned and received a $749 voucher)

So ended up getting PAID $161 to sign up to the plan :)

    • Will probably come again when clearing out s22 stock

  • +3

I wish the bonus and the contract period can be doubled, save the hassle porting out and in when it expires.

    • +2

Usually is, and then everyone complains about the 24 mo term!!

      • +1

i guess the 24 months is complained coz it's not as good as the 12 mth?

if it's simply x2 the bonus gf and x2 the period, it would be a good deal for us.

  • Sad, only switched to Woolies last week, hasnt been long enough

    • are you sure? where does it so how long you have to be off telstra network for?

      • +2

the general consensus is that we cant port ppl in unless they have been out of telstra for a month (including boost mobile)

    • Last time I had only switched about 2 weeks and it worked.

      Its worth a shot.

      • is it just dependent on the store person?

  • Is number share still unavailable?
Also is it a 5g plan?

  • where are the terms about eligibility for the voucher

  • -4

Unfortunately I got banned a few years ago by the JB Hi-Fi gift card system for signing up and cancelling too quickly. I got 5x $400 gift cards before they picked up on it though.

    • Hello, am I talking to me?! :|

I have heard you get unblocked after some time.

I'll consider doing it next year but intend to keep the plan this time.

  • +2

Meh can't stand contract plans. Prepaid all the way. Recharge every 12 months. Currently paying 30 dollar per month for two number

    • +1

      Weird flex

  • For all the people with Telstra atm and are off contract or want a new service:

    • The deal doesn't apply anymore for new services if you already have a service with Telstra, tried to add another last boxing day and the JB Hi-Fi reps (at two different stores) that the deal is only available for new users or port-ins.
    • In the case that you are off contract with Telstra you don't have to wait the 30 days period time with another Telco to port-in as long as you buy a $2 SIM from Optus/Vodafone, port in (with a new number) and then you can contact Telstra Chat for them to merge your existing number with this plan.

That's what I did 3 weeks ago for the Boxing Day Deal.

    • can you provide the telstra "terminology" for merging the new account number and existing account?

      • +1

Try to explain to them instead, something like:

I have the number ending in 382 (your existing number) off plan and I want to transfer that number to the new plan (JB Hi-Fi new plan with new number) and cancel the off plan.

I did that and the agent said that it was possible, took about 15 min to do it via chat.

    • just to clarify…

Point 1 - I am off contract with a Telstra service - can I not get another new service on this deal and do the number swap?

Point 2 - I don't quite understand the merge method - can I simply port out to Optus/Vodafone, then port back in to this deal?

      • +2

I will try to help the best I can:
Point 1: It seems that the deal is no longer available for a new service if you already have other services with Telstra (mobile plans).

Point 2: You can port out your number to Vodafone/Optus and port in but you need to be at least 30 days with another provider before you can become eligible again, some people claimed they didnā€™t wait that long, but officially, you need to be 30 days with another provider (Optus/Telstra).

        What I did was:
Got a $2 Sim from Optus, activate the sim with a new number and port in to Telstra through JB (all done the same day), at the same time my number was off contract.

Once the new service was active with Telstra, I reached Telstra chat and told them: ā€œMy number (ending in 302) is off plan and I got this new service (ending in 382) with a new plan, can you please cancel the service with the number ending in 302 and transfer the number to the 382 plan.

All done in 15-20 mins, hope it helps.

        • "If you want to change the number you will need to go to Telstra store or also you could call on ****** number and start the process as we don't have such option through chat process."

          Per Telstra chat
Did you get your plans sorted via chat or phone?

          Below was what I queried

Essentially the example I am using I ll have 2 plans
          1) account (no longer in contract)

          2) new plan new mobile number.

Can I move the contract only from 2) to 1) and retain the mobile number in 1)

and once its all done the new number from 2) will cease with only 1) number and new contract from 2) ?

          Response
What I meant to say is you could change the number move the contract and retain the mobile number you will need to call on ****** number so that the voice support team will help you.

          • @SchroederCat: Yeah samething when i do it through the chat. Just changed back to my number and would not recommend it.

I called telstra where I have to explain to the person for more than 20 minutes and they transferred me to the billing team.

Took 1 day to cancel my old contract and another day to change my number. Would probably wait for the 30 days than doing this again, just in case I lose my original number.

        • Didnā€™t work for me. The guy at JB Hifi said I needed to be a customer of Optus for a month or longer. Is that the rule or does that just depend on who you get?

  • too late, I got the Woolworths mobile plan, over the year, I will make my money back from the discounts, so effectively it is a free yearly plan on the Telstra network

  • Hasn't been a month (only 26 days) since I ported from Telstra - reckon I'd be able to get away with it?

    • If you wait 4 days you will, ends 25/1(that will be my 30th day away so I'm iffy šŸ™)

      • Yeah I had that in my calculations :( it'll be 26 days on the 25th haha
Can you do it and let me know šŸ˜‚

  • -4

Hmm I got $700 on this plan last year

    • JB has never offered a $700 gift card on a $69 plan for 12 months. Itā€™s always on their $69 plan for 24 months

Iā€™ve checked the deals posted and there isnā€™t one at least last year or the year before

      • +2

Hey, now, don't let the truth get in the way of a good story!

  • -1

It was last year in june….. with the pixel 6 pro
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/708285

Actually got it for $49/month over 12months

    $700 gift card

    • The deal that you linked is a $399 upfront for a Pixel 6 Pro on a $69 plan for 12 months.

Thereā€™s no mentioned of a $700 gift card in that deal at allā€¦

      • -1

That is exactly what I got though a $700 gift card… I didn't even get the standard pro. I took 700 off the 256gb pro

  • +3

Idk, $69p/m is still $69p/m. Similar (rolling) 4G Plus plans are significantly cheaper from other reliable carriers (Moose, Circles.life, etc). Gift cards are almost aways available to buy at a discount.

Unless you frequent 5G zones, already have your eye on a large purchase at JB, or prefer being wed to a carrier for a minimum term, no amount of mental acrobatics makes this an OzBargain, IMO.

    • 69p/m is usually 59p/m with the discount, which is what other Telstra wholesalers will be charging for access to 5G, this comes with the gift card as well.

      • +1

I guess if 5G is available to you and important enough to you, then yeah, sure, each to their own.

    • *or planning on selling the giftcard for ~$350

  • So you are paying around $34 per months and it still does not include international calling or SMS:

calls to international numbers ā€“ for call rates to overseas, see telstra.com.au/mobile-other-call-types
SMS to international numbers ā€“ 50Ā¢ per standard message sent per recipient; and
MMS to international numbers ā€“ 75Ā¢ per standard message sent per recipient.

  • +4

So I ported this arvo and tried Telstra Live Chat and it went a little different then all the stories hereā€¦ I mentioned that a staffer at JB alerted me that I may qualify for a port in credit as reported by other customers, Live Chat guy said itā€™s a third party plan but will see if there is anything he can do šŸ˜³ he came back and said that a port in credit will be applied on the first billing cycle and if itā€™s not there to contact Live Chat again, I asked how much would the credit be and said it depended on which I qualified forā€¦ $10 or $20.
So I will wait for the first bill to arrive and take it from there.

  • I see there is a $49 plan for 60GB a month (4G only). Does anyone know, at the end of the 12 months what happens? Do you keep paying $49 for 60GB? The T&Cs don't say.

    • +2

I'm in that situation from 12 months ago, you stay on the plan you signed up for (80Gb for $69/m in my case), but can switch to a standard Telstra plan without early termination charges after 12 months.

      • Thanks. The $49 plan seems ok to me. I don't care about 5G & 60GB is more than I would use in a year.

      • +1

Not always. Telstra reserve the right to move you to 'their' version of a comparable plan once out of contract, along with their shitty CPI increases each year.

  • Hi everyone,
Just wondering whether current ā€˜Belongā€™ customer be eligible for this offer? Thanks!

  • Took me 3 attempts, but I finally managed to get the $20/mth credit through the live chat!! Stoked!

  • +1

What are the key points to mention in live chat to get the port in credit?
Tried once before and hit a roadblock when the agent said that there is no option on their system to process.

    • +2

Second attempt and got it asking this as the initial opener "Hey team, I was at JB today where I ported in my number from Optus and he said that I would be eligible for a Port in Credit and to get this I'd just need to jump on live chat"

Received the $20 per month with an reference/order number

      • Can you share an reference number
        thanks

  • I tried about 4 people and the best they could do is $5 :/
Do you think I can aim for more by trying again?

  • I'm a current telstra user, i gotta port out for a month then back in again? Also assuming this gives me access to telstra plus as well?

  • Deal end date seems to have extended to 01/02/23.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/jb-mobile-instore

  • Can I sign up the deal if I was a prepaid Telstra plan? just expired last night

  • +1

Just ported my number today and secured $400 gift card
I only ported out from Telstra to Voda last Sunday, so it doesn't seem to be any 30 days restriction before you can port back to Telstra
Now it's time to get $20 port in credit

    • How did you go?

    • Where did you go to port in?

I tried that at my local JB and the first thing he noticed was that it hasn't been 30 days since I ported out and told me to come back next month :(.

Wondering if it's worthwhile trying another JB or maybe Good guys.

  • Does anyone have issues with the Telstra chat support, i just get a spinning waiting icon forever, hasn't worked all weekend.

  • Only managed to get $10 after complaining after their intial rejection

  • Anyone having trouble of seeing the $20 on their first bill?
I was offered $20 port in credit via chat and with reference number etc but $20 credit failed to come up on the bill.

Live chat again and was told "Upon checking the details, the offer has been ended on 31/12/2022 for $69 plan. Hence we are unable to provide the credit. I suggest you to check with the Jb hi-fi provider, whether they can able to apply the offer."

WTH, can anyone share some help here with the $20 credit?

  • Anyone had issues registering for the Telstra iOS app after porting? I get to the stage where Iā€™m supposed to receive a registration email or SMS, and neither comes through. Telstra chat rep says they have no primary email or mobile on file, and I have to go into a Telstra store to verify my identity! I just did all that at JB, surely this is not standard procedure after porting through a party agent?
