Google Pixel 6a 5G 128GB $0 Upfront w/Telstra $69 100GB 12-M Plan (New/Port-in, in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

980

JB are showing the Pixel 6a $0 Upfront for $69 per month, 100GB per month for 12-Month Plan on their site - $828 total for 12 months for both the phone and plan.

Screenshot of Offer

Factoring in $599 phone price, makes the Telstra plan $229. Seems solid.

Does the $10 port in credit still work? Essentially bringing down the Telstra plan to $109?

    • +2

Apparently so, just depends on your luck with the agent https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12645781/redir

    • +1

Didn’t work for me a couple of months back, despite trying with 3 different agents via chat.

      • Thanks, it would be very interesting for someone to try and report back to see if it actually works. :-)

        • +2

I really struggle with how you get this port in credit.. Every time I've tried it with Telstra chat, they say that 'it's a JB plan, go and talk to them'.. Am I doing it wrong? Should I be speaking with JB about this port in credit?

          • +5

@DirtyBoots: Last time I tried (with iPad plan, about 12 months ago) when they respond with that, i just say, "JB promised $10 credit, and asked me to hop onto the Telstra Chat to apply it", which isn't a lie, because I did ask the JB guys and thats what they told me to do. I was successful last time when doing this.

Why does this happen every time a new deal is posted ? Who cares if it works , get off your arses and try yourself!

          • +3

@Murkymerv: Thank you for sharing your negativity :-) It brightens my day.

          • +1

@Murkymerv: Because the OP might not be able to actually test it?

      • +1

4th one might have said yes

  • +1

Not too sure if it’s an error on their website but the catalogue shows $0 upfront on a 24 month contract for the Pixel 6a

    • dang.. it's quite possible .. otherwise it's bloody good value

      • +1

Official email just came from JB, it shows for 12 months, but their catalogue still shows 24 months

  • Wouldn't it be better to buy it outright, and get a Coles 365 day?

    • +10

Depends on how much data you need and whether Telstra coverage is important to you.

    • +1

Factoring in $599 phone price, makes the Telstra plan $229.

Yeah I can get 120 phone plans for a year. And that's enough for me.

      • +4

120 plans a year you would be forever changing

  • Pixel 6 and pro is bulky and crap. Pixel 7 hopefully fixes that. For now ill keep dropping my brick of an s22 ultra until we finally get over 1000x zooms that make phones thick and heavy

    • +12

What about the phone in this deal?

      • -4

Its a good free'ish phone to give your parents or use as a travel phone. If you own a premium phone i.e iphone 13 pro or s22 ultra its a downgrade, 60hz refresh rate, sub optimal camera quality.

        • +2

The Samsung A53 for $440 is a better deal, 120hz AMOLED

          • +4

@RADICALIST: Yeah you're probably right but personally I can't stand One UI. Would rather get 60hz with stock Android

    • +1

Gets x1000 zoom, find its unless because smallest movement is amplified x1000 times.. camera blur 😅

    • +1

The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro rumours/leaks suggest virtually the same size and shape as the 6 and 6 Pro, just slightly different looking camera cutouts on the camera bar.

  • -1

this phone better than a s21?

  • Dang this is pretty good value. If you can manage to get $20 port in credit you're laughing

  • -4

I don't know where the OP got an idea that the phone itself costs $599. Because it's going for $749 at retailers for example. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/google-pixel-6a-5g-128gb-…

Which means if you were to buy the phone separately upfront it will set you back $749.

So factoring in the total 12 plan price of $828. Maths showings that $828 - $749 (the phone price at retail) = $79 for the 12 months of mobile phone access itself. Not bad.

    • +2

      From the link below
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/721513

And additional Google store credit if you have Google 1 subs

      • -4

Ahhh i see. Well that's not retail price then. But can any one get the $599 price, or do you need to be a student?. If need to be a student then every one else has to pay the $749 full price.

        • +1

Anyone can get it at $599 at the Google Store and if you ask for a UNIDAYS or Student Beans code that brings it to the price linked in that deal

        • $597 at office works for the Pixel 6a

Edit: it WAS $597 at office works on Tuesday. Just checked now, and it's back up to $747 on the website at Office Works

    • +1

Because ozbargainers never factor in RRP, they factor in cheapest available deals.

  • Can I get this deal with a brand new number, and then later port in my Boost one?

    • You can't get this deal to get a brand new phone number. The banner says when you switch as in port your existing phone number to Telstra.

      • Spoke to JB and you can get this with a brand new number. Will worry about the port later!

  • Upgrade from Pixel 5?? Not sure if its worth

    • +1

I wouldn't bother. Pixel 5 is still a very competent phone.

It's maybe only worth upgrading if the phone is a few generations old at this point.

    • +1

Upgrade from Pixel 5?? Not sure if its worth

Not worth it. I have both and the 6a sits in the drawer…

      • Why? What's wrong with the 6a.

        • What's wrong with the 6a.

For me coming from a P5, it's slightly bigger and squarer and heavier so feels worse in the hand and pocket. The P5 is pretty much the perfect form factor and it's light.
The in-screen fingerprint scanner just sucks balls. A rear scanner is so much more practical and usable since you don't have to look at it to use it. Tactile input is a thing, I don't know why they keep removing this from devices. The in-screen scanner takes half a second longer to activate which is worse every time you use it.
Lastly no wireless charging. Not a deal breaker for me, but it just adds to the reasons not to use this device.

  • -1

    No trade-in bonus, no deal

  • +1

Is this an upgrade from my awesome s20 FE?

    • +3

      Definitely Not.

      • that was the exact same question i had

    • Absolutely not lmao

  • This phone is terrible, that's why they're doing it. Go on eBay and look how many people are selling them, and it's barely a month old…

    • This phone is terrible

I wouldn't say it's terrible. It's decent mid-range phone with some good features eg magic eraser and google native UI are pros, however it also has some cons such as the in-screen fingerprint reader which is a step backwards IMO. Rear sensors feel and work so much better which is one of the main reasons I stuck with the P5.

  • I recently got the Pixel 6a - all I can say is that battery life on the 6a is terrible; maybe it has always been that way. But coming from years of using Motorolas, I regret not buying another Motorola.

If anyone has some suggestions on stretching battery life, that would be appreciated.

    • Low power mode on?

      • I run it on battery saver most of the time anyway

    • How long does your battery last?

      • I would be lucky to see 10 hours to get to 15% battery left.

    • +2

Turn 5g off, mine is much better without it. 5g is super patchy in Perth anyway so doesn't make much difference to my use.

      • 5G is patchy nationally.
Except for around Parliament house in Canberra.

  • if we sell on CEX for $421 effective price of plan would be $34 for 12 months.
If you can sell on marketplace for more or get port in credit from Telstra than plan price can go more down.

    • How so? You're still paying ~400 for 12 months of the plan after selling the phone for $421.

    • CEX?

      • Its an store to buy and sell preowned electronics.

  • no more unlimited storage saver uploads :(

  • So if not a student, RRP is $749 and so the contract would be like paying $6.60 per month. Do I have that right???

    • Google store doesn’t require a student membership and anyone can get it at $599
It’s currently on sale from RRP $749

  • Anyone know if it would be possible to upgrade the plan during the 12 months? Not sure if 100gb will be enough

    • Also what happens if you go over 100gb, is it shaped? To what speed?

      • Not noticed that slow down much after over the speed

        • Are you able to test it?

          • @alex123711: No sorry,my plan expired last month
Now using bunch of $80 belong sim cards to get me through

  • Can you sign up to this plan if you are already on the $69 JB plan?

    • +1

No, you'd need a new number or service - can't port from the JB plan

  • -2

Could someone help me with a code please as I want to buy the google pixel for my husband. Be much appreciated

    • No code needed, just go instore.

  • hmm I need 100GB plan but can get $30 100GB plan on optus so is this phone worth $468. still not really tempted

  • Does anyone know data sharing sim from Telstra? someone said he's using it but I can't find it on Telstra website.

  • +2

Can we return pixel for change of mind after taking this deal?
Do they offer gift card for pixel original price as per their website when returned in original box unopened

    • Good question - please let us know if you find out.

    • +4

Yes, if you return the phone you will receive a gift card equal to the value of the phone. I did this a couple of months ago with a previous deal (for the 6 Pro).

      The deal I got was:
      $69/mth plan
      $399 payment for 6 Pro

I got a $50 credit from ZIP when paying the $399 (which wasn’t forfeited when I made the return)
I got a $600 JB voucher when I returned the phone
I got $20/month off the plan through Telstra chat

      So in total:
      $49/month: $588 for 12 months
      $50 credit
      $600 voucher

I got paid $62 to sign up to the plan for 12 months :) and claim the plan on tax for work usage

      • congrats but your relying on the system just not working or being checked as well as plain luck with the $20 CR but hey you took a shot and won!

      • Thank you
Yes this is awesome and congratulations to you
I tried my luck with $20 but they are saying $20 is only on $99 plan
With $69 plan, I can only get $10 credit for 12 months
Did they tell you the same and then you ask multiple agents until you got $20?

      • Could you please check and confirm what is the plan name in your telstra account ?
        Thanks

      • @Ghogger

        Thanks for your inputs
I managed to get $20 credit after talking to few more agents

        Happy days

    • Confirmed - I got a $749 gift card after returning

  • Can we port out from boost to telstra for this plan ?

  • Anyone recommend a case? Browsing Amazon and there is a few options so was looking for some actual opinions, cheers.

    • +1

      https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09S8N8KTT/ref=ppx_yo_d…
i got this from amazon. Has quite lot of good reviews. The case fits perfectly, makes it sturdy. I felt it was a little slippery when new but I am used to it now. I didn't want to cover the google logo so it was perfect for me with clear back.

      • Thanks mate, I'll go with that one then.

  • Was on boost and ported to amaysim. Went to jb and it shows error in provisioning. JB said to wait and come to colect phone later. Did online chat with telstra and they said this order won't proceed and to go to JB again to place new order. Not sure what to do.

    • I recommend being out of Boost for at least a week, otherwise it may not let you port over (supposed to be 30 days)

  • Got this deal, ended up selling the phone on facebook market place for $550 - just had to be patient. Pretty good deal considering the next best deal at $69 p/m is $400 Jb GC.

    • You could have returned it to JB Hifi with the receipt, I returned mine and got a $749 gift card

      • Tried, they didn't allow it
You got lucky with the sales rep

I'm pretty happy with the deal

      • Which store you returned at ?

        • Broadway Sydney
