230

For those that missed the last deal @ JB Hi Fi (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/906788), it's pretty much back!

Gerry has a very similar deal on right now as well (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/908625) but when comparing the cancellation policies, JB would be the better option for those up for the OzBargainer method - you know what to do!

Available to port-in mobile services (excluding JB Upfront/Prepaid, The Good Guys Mobile & Broadband, Telstra & Boost) and new Telstra mobile service customers only.

This is from my personal experience after using the phone for a few months (before I sold it of course)

Highly overrated phone. You buy it today, I bet will be selling it within 2 months time. Poor battery, very slow charging, poor camera, outdated front screen, Apps integration for a fold phone still not at the level with Samsung. Overall not worth even at this price of $1,062 ($766+$99+197).

Better buy P9PXL around this price which is a much better phone.

    • Dang that's interesting given how the previous deal linked in the post has over 200 votes. Guess reality is real

      • +2

Or different people have different use cases so it won't suit everyone.
I do prefer the Samsung Fold over the Pixel Fold but I'll definitely be satisfied with the Pixel if I didn't have a choice.

"Outdated front screen" is very subjective. I believe OP is referring to the thicker bezels which is just a cosmetic thing. Really not that big a deal for a lot of people.

        • Not only bezels, resolution is mediocre and screen gets scratched very easily. Putting a glass screen protector is a challenge because of front section of any case.

          • +1

@OZBsince2018: The Pixel has a sharper outer screen (422ppi) than the Galaxy Fold 6 (407ppi).

The front screen is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

I have no issues at all putting a glass screen protector on mine. The large bezels make it really easy to fit it within my aramid fibre case.

Do you ever use remote desktop on these fold phones? Normal phones are way too small for me and makes it hard to click accurately and type.

          • +2

@cornflakes: Yup, it's much more usable for that but is still more difficult than a tablet or laptop. I just set up someone's laptop on my phone from the back of a taxi last week with it. Much slower than doing it from a laptop, but much easier than doing it on a normal phone.

for the record I'm loving my Pixel 9 Pro Fold (bought from the Optus/HN deal months ago. I love it

        • Same

      • The votes like everything else are fake. only the comments are real.

        • I'd say a lot of people only bother leaving comments if they didn't like an aspect of the product. It's natural for people to complain more than praise. If a product is working great, they usually just enjoy using it and not bother to look for a forum to write a post just to say it's working fine.

    • I agree. I have this phone and I’m not liking it.

    • +2

I I got this phone for under $1000, sold it for $1200 in less than a month, and got 1 year of Google AI Pro for free.

    • +2

I've had the P9PF since launch. Battery easily gets me through the day (and more) and charging is fast enough. Primary camera is still very good, but more a side-step from my old P7P. Ultrawide and telephoto a bit softer resolve. Front screen is pretty much a Pixel 9 (non-Pro) panel - have had no issues with it and plenty bright enough. Much more enjoyable to use over the narrow Samsung.

      • +1

Much more enjoyable to use over the narrow Samsung.

Interestingly having used both the Pixel 9 Fold and Samsung Fold 7, I much prefer the narrower Samsung as I frequently use it one-handed and it's far easier for me with the Samsung.

Rumours are the Fold 7 is going to have a wider front screen. That's a minus point for me.

        • +1

Funnily enough, that's why I got the P9PF - for easy single-handed use. Coming from the Pixel 7 Pro with the 6.7" panel, I wanted something smaller, so was looking at the Pixel 9 Pro. However, Google delayed the release locally and with the really good trade in and store credit deals, I got the Fold instead. I went into it not expecting much, particularly from a durability stand point, but have been pleasantly surprised by the experience. Sure, I would have liked a better camera upgrade from the P7P (rather than side-grade), but the trade-off for the enhanced productivity is worth it. Each half of the phone is quite thin, so without a larger camera bump, the phone would have to be thicker.

As for the Samsungs, I find the front screen to narrow and just can't adjust to the aspect ratio - end up having to open the phone all the time. The beauty of the Pixel, is that you can be comfortable regardless of the screen being used. Of course, everyone's perspective is different here. Fold 7 does indeed look to 'improve' in this area, from my point of view.

Fold vs Fold, the Pixel's cameras do a better job all-round too.

    • +1

I upgraded from a pixel 9 pro xl to the fold after a few weeks.

For a personal user case id take the Pro XL as it has a better screen front screen, is thinner and takes much better pictures.

I kept the fold however due to the productivity gain it affords me when having to do business activities. Having Firefox open on one side and Gmail on the other has been perfect.

I just cannot go back to a non fold now :/

    • I didnt experience poor battery, this is me comparing with my S25+. I got around 6-7 hours of screen on time on both through out the day. The charging is slower indeed, but this only matter when you have limited time to charge, most times you charge overnight so it doesnt really matter. Camera is about on par with S25+, Ultra or pixel pro is def better.

However, i can see with folding phone you either love it or hate it. If you don't see the inner screen is useful, then you'll hate folding phone.

I'm getting the snip in a few minutes and in the waiting room, so I'm a little scatterbrained…I didn't read the part about signing up to their phone deal, just the 200, and I was wondering how I'd go sprinting down to JB once they let me out lol

    • +2

Sprinting after getting the snip… Only if you want intense pain and the possibility of your man tubes popping out!

    • I'm being asked to get the snip by the mrs - any.. tips? :D

      • +2

        don't snip the tip

don't be worried about asking for as much anaesthetic as you like. the burning smell isn't much to worry about. don't count the ceiling tiles too quickly or you'll have get bored and have to do it a couple more times. thursday is a good day to do it as you can take friday off and chill over the weekend. get comfy on the sofa with an ice pack.

      • +4

Yeah. Hope you don't get a hot nurse

      • Ask her to give you a really good send off the night before?

Nah, I'm the biggest sook with needles or anything of the sort. It was (profanity) really weird feeling, and it wasn't pleasant, but it was alright, balled up my fists a few times but that's about it. I can't stress enough what a sook I am, if I can take it, anyone can.

  • How is this a deal when you are still paying way over in a monthly phone service fee?

OzBargainers know what to do, but you don’t :P

Wiki and FAQ: JB Hi-Fi Mobile Plans

      • +2

A true ozbargainer would share the "what to do" in the deal post.

        • +11

Copied and pasted from the wiki I had created:

          Step-by-step Guide

          1. Head in to your local store and ask to sign up to the related promotional phone deal.
          2. Standard credit check will be done (ie, they will ask where you’re working, how much you’re earning, your role, living situation etc).
          3. JB/TGG staff will print/show you the terms and conditions of the plan and ask you to read before you sign. This will also include the ETC amount that you’re expected to repay.
          4. The above step shouldn’t take too long and roughly will take about 10 minutes to complete and service to activate.
          5. JB/TGG staff will issue a voucher that’s equivalent to the promotional deal and this does not change the ETC that you have signed in step 3.
          6. Once you’ve got your hands with the device and that the SIM card has been activated, you can immediately cancel.
          7. To do this, you can either hop onto the Telstra or JB Mobile app.
          8. The final invoice can take up to a few hours to arrive
          • +1

@BargainsGrabber: is the go to person for anyone who has any questions 😬

          • @BargainsGrabber: I was looking at doing this with their offer on the pixel 9 pro xl.
But reading the TCS, there's a voucher repayment for the span of the plan term. Is this not a repayment of the entire voucher ?

        • +1

A true ozbargainer would know what to do, otherwise they are not true ozbargainer 😅

    • Last 5 words in OP post - read those 😅

  • +3

I purchased it in last deal. I agree with others that it’s not a great phone when compared to my pixel 9 pro. Bit bulky and poor camera.

    • +1

I'm on a Galaxy ZFold3 that is close to dying… from a budget perspective of wanting to stick with a big screen folding phone, not sure what my other options are? Like how likely will the new release of the ZFold 7 not be.. at least 800 to 1000 more than this on release day?

      • +2

Wait for ZFold7 preorder deals. Based on previous pre-order deals, you should be able to get it around $1,000 mark.

      • i'd maybe look at a refurb Z Fold 5 for ~900 and chuck a $300 365-day Boost SIM in it. A year's worth of decent phone use for $1200 all-in.

of course, may not suit your needs.

    • Could someone please confirm if the monthly mobile bill has any mention about the mobile phone or 1100 gift card you got from the plan or just states 99 for the service used?

  • Can I get a new number or is it port in only?

And if I port in then out again, will the plan get cancelled automatically and my card will be charged the $766?

    • Port in only. Reported the deal to amend the title

Yes, that’s one way to cancel without dealing with the JB Mobile/ Telstra chat

      • +1

Thanks, time to head to Aldi for the starter sim then

  • Is it possible to use 20% voucher with this?

  • Can someone explain this method? I followed the link that explains it but it says you'll need to pay back the voucher value, what am i missing?

    • Voucher value is capped at an amount depending on the cost of the plan. See wiki page for more info.

      • I've looked at that already but i think i understand more this time around…the max voucher repayment is set by Telstra at $800, it's not the same value as the JB voucher, is that it?

  • +1

For those of you who bought Pixel 9 Pro fold last week, you are able to claim the price difference to get your $200 back. Doesn't work if you already use 10% perks coupon though.

    • Do I have to go back to the original store for the refund or can go to any store? Thanks

    • @yummypinacolada, won't they honour 10% perks on the reduced ticketed price?

      • nope, the 10% off was a one day deal. The final price was still cheaper, so you can't get anymore refund

  • I don't understand how the $766.67 is calculated?

    • +1

Cancellation Fee is $800, and since you already pay for 1 month upfront, so the pro rata Cancellation Fee for the remaining 23 months:
      $800/24*23=$766.67

  • Can you get the 512gb if you pay the difference?

  • +2

I went to JB last Sat and bought the phone but did not realised that it had increased to $2697 for the phone. I only realised at the counter but it was too late.
Today I went to collect the phone, as it was on backorder, JB had refunded me $700. Thank you JB, you have done it again.

  • They extended the deal again till 18 June. Pretty aggressive on clearing the stock.

  • Anybody ever had an issue with Telstra giving payment denied errors while the JB peeps confirm payment details in store, right after "e-signing" the Telstra agreement screen? I've checked after the fact and I'm even getting this error when attempting to buy something outright from the Telstra store online.

I've done the run around, including support through the app, going to a Telstra store etc. And am told "there's nothing wrong with my account" and "other people are having this issue". Helpful.

Any tip around what else that can be done before I conclude that Telstra doesn't want my business?

    • Nope, sorry. Maybe something wrong with your stored payment method on Telstra account?

      • Yeah that's what Telstra said initially. I removed the stored credit card, added it back (which worked, included preauth), but same issue. Also tried with a bank account to no avail. Thanks though!

  • +1

Went into today and pretty much said, the salesperson was give extra $100 and reduce to $97

  • If you get the JB Extras extended warranty, is it considered a phone above or below $2000?
It's a $300 fee if below, $350 for anything above.

  • Why is this expired? Says up to 25th June
