    Woolworths deal is just better

    • Which one

      • +3

Any, woolworths uses Telstra network but not the 5g yet.

I got the long term plan. You also get 10% back in shopping so essentially can get the plan for free if you spend like a $100 on a single shop which i do once a month

        • +2

And even if you do a smaller shop each month Woolworths still works out cheaper than pretty much any out there. Even if you just do a shop for essentials, bread, rice, pasta, beans, etc, so you're not actually changing your buying habits.

When I'm done sim slutting around for free/profit, I'll be hopping aboard WW long term.

        • Only one is see is $150 a year. Similar to boost in price

          • -1

            @asa79: Yep… Some thinks $140 for 100Gb deal better than $120 for 120Gb.
Telstra could be better some areas, but worse some other places too.

            • -1

@Sabric: I paid $130 for the $150 365 woolies. Plus I got a free $10 wish gift card and I actively get 10% off a monthly woolies shop which saves me money and gives me a free 12 month mobile plan if I spend over $130 a month on a woolies shop which is a pretty low bar with grocery prices..

I used 90gb over the last 12 months without being careful, so 100gb should be enough for my needs.
I may just have to pre download podcast before I hit the road etc if I want to be extra careful..

The $200/ 180gb 365 woolies gets down to around $160 with stacking offers. Which may have been worth the extra. But I'll see how I go..

          • -1

@asa79: Currently $140 for 100gb and $200 for 180gb. I have woolworths insurance and its enough to have the discount once online and once in store.
If you buy the half price one month pack you can use towards the 1 year plan so 100gb will cost $130 and $180 for the other one (if you buy the $40 pack currently half price)

          • @asa79: I purchased the $40 Sim for $20 and when I activated I was able to upgrade to the $150 365 plan and pay the difference. $110, spending $130 total for the $150 365 woolies plan.

Took all but 5 minutes and my number transferred across within the hour.

I also used the referral to get me and the referrer a $10 wish gift card each in 3 months time.

With the 10% off monthly shop the woolies deal is very aggressive. Considering there's no minimum threshold or hoops to jump through to use or get the 10% off (capped at $50/ $500) making the perk no fuss and easy to use.

Meaning I actually save money each month and get a free mobile plan for a year.

The woolies $200/ 180gb 365 regularly on special stacked with referral, cashback etc works out great to if you need more data.

        • +1

… essentially can get the plan for free…

          How?

I'm in the market and interested. What do you do and what price and GB does it come to?

          • +1

@muwu: They mean if you shop at least once a month and save $15 off your monthly shopping the sim would work out free.

          • @muwu: I got the ling term plan $200 plan for $180. 10% off shop eveey month.

I try to get all the stuff i need for the month in a single shop which comes close to $200 and essentially get around $20 back a month.

These are things i would get over the course of 4 weeks anyway but now i try to get everything at once.

Another option is to just get giftcards, $200 gift card for $180 per month and you get the plan for free as you sace $220 over the year

            • @michael9865: No discounts for gift cards.

              • @fozzie: Can you receive sms overseas ( just incase i need validation code from aus banks) with woolworths?

                • @clover: No idea about Woolies mobile as my discount is via insurance.

              • +1

@fozzie: wait what really, i didn't see that, does it say somewhere

  • It's still Vodafone reception

    • -3

      Woolworths mobile=Telstra network

      • +1

This is a Kogan mobile deal not Woolworths

        • -2

          And….

      • Does Woolworths Mobile have full access to Telstra network?
        Type of coverage

Woolworths Group Limited ABN 88 000 014 675 uses parts of Telstra's 5G, 4G and 3G* mobile networks. The service provides 5G Coverage reaching at least 75% of the Australian population.

        • +2

No. When on the same road trip through regional areas, Boost is better than Woolworths.

          • @lomie: Still better than Vodafone in my experience travelling.

        • Similar to aldi

    • Which at least in Metro areas I find way better than Optus at least.

  • +1

what is best (and cheapest) 365 day prepaid option out there? I really only need about 50gb, and not fussed if it is optus/telstra network

    • +3

There’s Amaysim 365/60GB for $99 till end Jan

      • +1

ah that sounds great. thank you!!!

        • +4

Don't forget $14 cashback (both Cashrewards and Shopback)

      • Amaysim it’s $99 plus 2000 points in Woolies. If you have 10% off it’ll work out $79.1 (10% off and the points)

        • +1

          If you have 10% off…

Where's the 10% off come from?

          • +1

@muwu: Woolies customers that have insurance or a mobile phone connected to rewards card.

    • +1

If you shop at Woolies, Woolworths mobile could be free.

      • How?

      • really? how so?

        • +1

They mean if you shop at least once a month and save $15/20 etc using 10% off your monthly shopping the sim would work out free.

        • +2

Woolies mobile allows 10% off one shop every month.

If y have a family or/and can coordinate your shops to spend $100 a month in one go every month then a $120 a year prepaid plan is effectively free

          • +1

@0jay: oh wow, that's good to know. thanks fam! saving each other money :')

    • what is best (and cheapest) 365 day prepaid option out there?

Catch Connect and Kogan Mobile regularly have offers for $89/year or $90/year.

Until such an offer comes around, change to Moose Mobile at $8.80/month.

As noted above, Kogan Mobile uses the Vodafone network. Catch Connect is Optus.

      Recent example deals:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/746557
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/732196

Edit: In fact, the Catch Connect deal is active now, no need to use Moose Mobile at all.

      • thanks so much, I think I'll be going with the catch connect deal. appreciate it!

        • Note that these are introductory rates, if you leave auto-recharge turned on, they will charge you $120 or so for successive years. It's rare that there will be an offer allowing you to recharge for $90.

So turn the auto-recharge off, and set a calendar alarm for 11 month's time, to start looking for a new plan with a different provider, so you can get another introductory offer. Between Catch Connect, Kogan Mobile and maybe Coles Mobile, there should be a good plan available when your new plan expires. If not, port out to Moose Mobile for a month or two until a good deal appears.

Having said that it's rare to get a good recharge offer, Coles Mobile appear to have a quirk. If you turn off auto-recharge, they will send you an offer (via email and SMS), about a month before your yearly plan's expiry, offering 25% off your next recharge if you turn auto-recharge back on. So turn it back on, wait for it to recharge, and then turn it off again after it has recharged. This has worked twice for my wife's Coles Mobile plan, now on the third year. 25% off their $120 plan gets you to $90/year.

You can't normally get the first year of Coles Mobile for $90 though, but it occasionally happens. At the moment they are offering the $120 plan for $99.

Coles Mobile has free international calls to 15 countries, if that makes a difference to you.

        • +2

Correction, I've just checked my emails, and the discount for enabling auto-recharge was 20%. So the $120 plan will reduce to $96 after the discount.

  • does this work for existing customers? or do i need to port out/in?

    • If you click there is an option for existing customers.

  • +6

Existing Kogan customers get 150GB for $120 https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-prepaid-voucher-co…

    • How did you get this link? Can't seem to find it by browsing

      • +2

The link is sent to existing customers when their plan is about to expire. I just happened to renew my sons phone plan. Which is good as most companies don't care about existing customers and only try to attract new customers with deals.
        More deals here https://www.kogan.com/au/kogan-mobile-365-day-offers-365sms-…

        • Although if you read the fine print it says voucher expires 30/06/2022?

          • @pgj: I just purchased it using the link and the voucher I got sent says it expires 30/04/2023.
Edit - although I can see the expiry date you’re talking about.

  • I just use the Kogan trial and find the 4g and 5g network really bad, always loading the air even in Sydney CBD, need to use the 3g to have a stable connection

  • Just like a couple of months ago, activating their SIM is pretty hopeless. Site keeps staling after entering name details.

  • I tried the XL out in three Eastern states with an iPhone 13 pro on 4g eSIM in January

Best speed I had was 20mbit and average 5mbit

It was like going back 20 years especially on the train after being on 5G Boost achieving gigabit speeds

Lucky I was able to port back to Boost and receive the full $165 refund with a bit of complaining after they wanted to pro rata the service

  • If i already get 10% each month with Woolies car insurance, can i also get 10% for this as well?
