What’s the usual price? Is this a bargain or another OzAdvertisement?

    • +3

      another OzAdvertisement

It is not. I post what I think is a good buy (not always cheapest).

      • Bought this a few years ago for about $30 at Camera House, if I am not mistaken.

    • +1

      Is that you, jv?

      • +1

Lol probably a disciple in training

  • +5

I have this. The clamping strength is quite strong. But it's plastic and very cheap-feeling. It's practical and I'm glad I have it, but i probably wouldn't buy another one.

    • +3

if it's practical, you wouldn't need another one, lol

      • +1

But i use more than one.

      • +2

        What if it breaks?

      • +5

        That's not what practical means.

        • +1

          Yes. It isn't

      • you guys dont have (multiple) phones?

  • +2

i was about to get this but i saw it uses plastic on the clamping necks, not ideal for my constant use case.

  • +1

According to the Camels, the price for the past 5 years has been consistently between about $15 and $20, lowest at $10.

I have this though and at around $15 or less I'd vote for it.

edit: I am not sure about the seller - has absolutely minimal feedback. Manfrotto Amazon Store is only 30c more though, $14.99.

    • +1

That store name is Manfrotto Sale. Doesn't sound like an official Manfrotto store to me. Only has 1 item in their store too.

      • +1

$15.20 from Amazon AU, delivered tomorrow.

The cheaper seller won't deliver until Feb 8.

  • Thanks. Bought one

  • Thanks. Bought one

  • +1

any change this can be used on the car air cond?

    • -2

No, it uses a 1/4-20 thread to mount to a tripod etc. instead of the purposely designed fragrance holders.

It's not the best idea to hold liquid fragrances inside the car anyway, they've leaked abs destroyed dashboards many times.

Not always, but usually those cheap fragrances are also nasty chemicals.

      • +3

Why are you talking about fragrance holders when this is for a phone holder?

        • +1

Assumed wrong, it thought he, like many, was trying to hold a fragrance bottle.

          Either way, it won't work.

Same price directly from Manfrotto Amazon AU… Manfrotto Universal Smartphone Clamp with ¼ Thread Connections Grip, Black (MCLAMP) https://amzn.asia/d/69etxYS

  • I ended up buying the kit a few weeks ago and I’m quite happy with both the clamp and the tripod… Manfrotto Pixi MKPIXICLAMP-BK Lightweight Mini Tripod Black with Universal Smartphone Clamp, Black https://amzn.asia/d/2nh6Qvh

    • is the clamp here the same that comes with the tripod you link to?

      • Yep, same clamp but kit includes the Pixi tripod.

  • I have a normal manfrotto ball head, can this be used / attached to it so I can use my normal tripod? I don't want to buy another tripod/pixie.

    • +1

I often use mine with my Manfrotto ball head as well. Just screw the back or the bottom of the clamp to the ball head shoe, and you're good to go.
I guess it pretty much works with any tripod camera shoe (?).

      • Thanks glad to know it works

  • Can this fit iPhone 13 with Ottobox?

    • +2

It fits width of my iPhone 14 Pro Max so should fit. Minimum size is just smaller than width of iPhone 5s.

      • +1

        Cool thanks!

  • This is good, but the slightly more expensive manfrotto one is better.

    • +1

Which one do you mean? This IS a Manfrotto.

      • The slightly more expensive manfrotto one than this manfrotto one.

        • Do you mean the "Manfrotto PIXI Clamp for smartphone"?

  • too bad it doesn't have rubber pads on the inside of the clamp as well. my cheapo aldi bike clamp has this and it helps dampen the shock

  • +1

More expensive, but Ulanzi make some all-metal phone mounts that use a screw mechanism rather than spring clamps. Feels more secure to me

  • I got this all metal one from aliexpress before xmas: “ Aluminum Phone Tripod Mount Cold Shoe Mount“ (link removed by moderator) for less than AU$9 because shipping was free then. It’s about $16 delivered right now. High quality item, uses a screw rather than a dodgy spring action to grip. I have a few plastic ones too but they are toys in comparison. I also got an all metal tablet sized one for under $20 elsewhere on Ali.

    • For some reason your link was removed by a moderator

      • Got it from Aliexpress, try searching “ Aluminum Phone Tripod Mount Cold Shoe Mount“ .

        • Agree. They do look better. Might have to order one. P6Pro with spigen armour case gets pretty beefy for my current plastic phone mount.

    • The Manfrotto posted here is similar to the Ulanzi I have and countless other Chinese made ones on Aliexpress. Not rubbish but not worth $14.69 imo. My guess is Manfrotto just rebadged it. Not to the usual Manfrotto high standard. Example: my Manfrotto Pixi is much higher quality than the Ulanzi desk tripods I have.

  • +1

I was super disappointed with mine. The clamp requires lot of force to open. Not recommended.

    • +2

      DYEL?

    • +2

So you don't recommend it because it has a good clamp that means your phone won't fall out?

You would prefer one with a weak clamp that means your phone falls out?

      • +3

Clamps can be designed such that they hold firmly without needing a large amount of effort to release when you want to get the device out.

        • +1

Yes they can be designed with low clamping force which means they don't hold things as well.

          • @spaceflight: I didn’t say that. Clamps can have high clamping force AND a release and closing mechanism that doesn’t require a lot of effort.

      • Mate I have used few to know which is a good one and which is not. This certainty falls under bad category.

        • So a bad one is one that doesn't hold your phone well meaning it easily falls out.

          Makes perfect sense.

    • +1

Yeah except according to the reviews the tripod is shit.

      • can you briefly say why?

        • The clamp is extremely tight, you'll struggle to open it even with 2 hands. When I tried to use it, I got scared that i might break my phone.

          • @angry-redbird: Really, even for the BigW one.

I have the BigW one and the clamps are not extremely tight.

Maybe you need a gym membership?

    • I have this and its perfect as a mobile phone tripod. Use it for my gopro too. 10 dollars for both the tripod and the clamp which is removable and has the same thread.

  • Or spend 5 bucks more and get an aluminium version.
