I always thought A graded items had no marks on them

  • It is almost Impossible to open that without damage. How come It is refurb?

    • +10

They likely bought a bunch from a leasing company (or similar), did a factory reset, maybe wiped it down with a cloth and sold them as refurbished.

      • Makes Sense.

    • +2

Since the Surface Laptop 3, these devices are held together with screws and magnets not glue like on the SL2.

Much better for the environment as seen by these refurb units.

    Damn, nice! Very tempting.

"Good" condition is another $70 ish less.

you can run a blue light on the trackpad to find surprising stains on refurb laptops :D

      you have odd hobbies.

You need to spray on Luminol first. Cleaning spray is cheaper.

      • How bout some eucalyptus oil?

      • Luminol is for blood.
Most bodily fluids fluorece some amount under UV without it

    • +3

do it in your teen boy's bedroom for an even bigger surprise

  • What is the original price if not refurbished?

  • What colour is it?

  • How's this compare to a 2018 MacBook Pro?

    • +1

The MacBook would be better, and can run macOS.
If you’re looking to run windows… just buy a Dell.
I’ve been issued a surface 4 laptop from work and it’s the biggest POS.
      Crappy wifi and laggy

The issues you mentioned are most likely driver/image related as the hardware is more than capable.

        • +2

          Corporate managed windows 10… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I mean the Intel hardware is about as common as it gets… it should just work

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: sadly not unusual for corporate managed machines, that is certainly not a problem unique to MS based hardware which as you say is all the same inside as every other vendor :-(

I am currently on the new Surface Studio laptop, must say I am loving it.

I bought microsoft's most expensive laptop at the time, Surface Book 2 and I swear I am not touching microsoft hardware again.

I've bought a bunch of Surface laptops for staff at work and I never hear about them after deployment as they all just work fine.
There were definitely issues in the early days (SP3/SL1 era), but after 2018ish they've all been pretty solid.

          • @eug: How long does the battery generally last for your Surface Laptops?

            • @HairyChickens: I don't use them much myself so I couldn't tell you, sorry.

      • +1

You haven't told IT about it? Ours has been fantastic. Probably related to your companies IT department and their updates/drivers?

      • When you say buy a dell - are there refurb XPS laptops or something for similar prices? I guess I could stalk dell outlet more, but haven't seen super cheap offerings in the $700 range.

  • +3

Would love to know the battery cycle count…

    • I think they need battery at 70% if they sell refurb…. (and comp. shop).
I remember another poster mentioning it.

just sold 2nd hand (with no refurb) take your chances.

Wouldnt buy one of these personally. Very nicely built with a great keyboard, but repairs are extremely locked down. At work, devices in warranty can not be worked on by any of the repair techs, the entire unit has to be sent back to Microsoft even for minor issues…

    • What are the common issues???

      • Anecdotally they have the same issues other laptops have, such as dead ram / cpu etc that would typically require just switching out the parts or the MB if soldered. Also lots of cracked screens caused by users leaving stuff inside the lid, putting on camera privacy stickers, etc, that would normally only require replacing the glass or the LCD itself if required. With the offical repair process for MS devices, rather than ordering parts from Lenovo for example and having them fixed by the user in some instances, or onsite by a tech / locally at a repair shop in a couple of hours, we have to send the entire unit back, hence my issue.

It may be that it is possible to source parts / fix them yourself other ways, would have to look into it.

  • I would of thought a Lenovo Yoga 7i 14 Gen 7 would be more interesting….

  • Whose the leasing company

  • Is battery life still 5 hrs for multitasking on these things? My work one never got the claimed 11 hours.

  • Gosh… ozbargained already

  • noooo OOS, I was in a work meeting :(

  • Can anyone suggest another refurbed laptop from this seller that fits the below needs? I got overwhelmed looking as I been out of the laptop game for too long to know what was a lemon and what wasn't when it got released.

Weight: Light (doesn't need to be the lightest but under 1.4kg)
Screen: 13-14" that is over 300nits and looks good (FHD/1080p is fine)
CPU: 8th gen or newer (or ryzen equivalent) and preferably 16gb (but maybe 8gb is ok)
Use: mother in law for study, websurfing, needs to last 3+years
Price: anything under $1k but closer to $500 is nice
As long as battery last 5-6hrs it will be fine and no need for any gaming.

  • I also wouldn't recommend Microsoft surface laptop based on experience. I bought a surface laptop 3 in 2020, it died on me two months ago. First, the battery seemed to never charge and I had to keep it plugged in. Then it started getting laggy or froze, often having to restart. Now I can't even seem to turn it on - it opens with a brief Microsoft logo and doesn't turn on. It's out of warranty and cost $500-700 to get it fixed by Microsoft.

    • Try claim a repair under ACL. It's less than 3 years old (or thereabouts) so you have a good chance.

I've ordered a number of Surface devices for work, they've all been working well. Older Surface devices had issues but the newer ones have been fine.
