    No Usb C charging :(

    • That a shame for sure, seems like great value otherwise.

    • +6

Should be grateful it's not soldered 8GB RAM.

      • Did laugh (big man tyrone style)

    • OzB removed my post for linking to Aliexpress but you can get USB-C to DC barrel adapters

This model HP uses a 4.5x3.0mm DC barrel and the adapters are around $4 or $15 for a full cable with exchangeable DC connectors.

I have been using one for my asus laptop for 2months now no problems

      • Interesting. I assume it negotiated the correct voltage over pd. I might check it out for my msi 19.5v

  • +1

Good price, but hard to go back to FHD screen after working on a 2K screen.

    • -2

      Get a 2k monitor

      • +2

Yes, but can't carry it everywhere.

      • Noob question - if the laptop screen is FHD, presumably the graphics card is only good for that resolution?
Could I, for example, hook up 2x 2K monitors to it and it still be ok for general desktop use?

    • +3

15 inch 1080p is surely not a problem.

      • ive had a 4k laptop for 4 years cant go back to 1080p

        • Fair nuff. My eyes aren't that sharp yet

    • Agreed

Windows 11 in S mode operating system

Does that mean nerfed version of windows?

    • +1

You need to unlock it otherwise it's useless.

      • Does that mean you need to pay for a better license?

        • In the past you had I think 90 days to upgrade free, followed by a paid upgrade. They also made you factory reset as well.

I think they changed the rules, but not sure, I just tell everyone to upgrade the day they buy for free.

        • +1

No, but you'll need to install Windows fresh from a USB drive and do a bit of messing around to stop it from reverting to the S mode restrictions during the install process.
I had to do it recently for a Lenovo Flex - pro tip, download all of the drivers for the laptop to a separate USB before you do anything.

  • Stupid question, because I have no idea about PC gaming and AMD integrated graphics, but can I play F1 Manager on this?

    • +1

Based on the 3200G results I would comfortably say yes.

Minimum spec is GTX960, which is maybe half this iGPU, but at 720p you should be fine. It won't be comparable to dGPU, but you get a significantly thinner and lower power usage laptop.

        • +1

It's better, but still a little bit short of minimum spec. Should be able to play at 40fps lock

If the "minimum" requirement is 960, you need something like a ryzen 6800u, or a dgpu like 1650.

For the price I'd stick with this one for $800.

I bought this for the same price a couple of months ago.
    Pros:
    - everything worked on Xubuntu 22.04 out of the box
    - trackpad is decent size and responsive
    - fan noise isn't annoying
    - battery runs 1080p Furmark at medium brightness for over 2 hours before before dying
    Cons:
    - display is average (probably about right for the price though)
    - keys are a little wonky, with sharp edges
    - no keyboard backlight
    - SSD unusable due to SMART failure after a couple of weeks

  • Whats better - this or Dell Inspiron 14 with 20% off code (https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-14-lap…)

    • Is there a code for the 20% off ?

      • +1

Yes, the below discount with student/academic staff sign up. I signed up in Dec and my codes expire 31 Jan.

20% on selected Inspiron Notebook & Desktop, XPS Notebook, Alienware Notebook & Desktop, Vostro Notebook and Vostro Desktop.

15% discount on selected XPS Desktop, Monitors & Accessories.

    • Looks good for $838.40

    • I just got a code and it won’t allow me to get 20% off this computer. Is it because my code isn’t from December?
      I’m a student

  • Thanks a lot for the response

Wow, great specs at that price! Crazy really

I bought this back in October from OP's last deal and here was my initial+updated review:

Display: It looks brighter at its max brightness but has a warmer tone to it. Whites look different compared to my Dell S2721D monitor. Not complaining, but the colors feel washed out. Not a bad deal considering the specs. (update: Got used to the colors, I'm no picture/ video editor so it doesn't both me at all. I have worked in direct sunlight and in outdoor conditions, display produced decent visibility in all conditions)

Performance: Amazing, running 20-25 chrome tabs and still was able to play Forza 4. The laptop runs smooth. But I'm hoping to upgrade the SSD to a faster one, preferably a Samsung 980 NVMe drive. Current drive is SK Hynix BC711 (which doesn't have a good benchmark(harddrivebenchmark.net). (Update: I still haven't opened it to modify anything but the performance is stable, fast and ran so far without any issues. Nothing to complain. Perfect bang for buck in terms of performance)

In overall, performance is all that I was looking for in a laptop at such a low price. I will upgrade to a faster RAM and SSD hopefully in the black friday sales. But, you're after solid performer, this is it.

Ports: I'm happy that it has all necessary ports like 2x USBs, 1x USB-C, 1x HDMI and even a SD card reader. No it doesn't support charging via USB-C port. I wish it had one more USB-C port.

Battery: it has a 40,642 mAh battery. Can't complain about the battery life. I had a Zephyrus G14 with 4-5 hours of battery life. But, since I was not into gaming or video editing, 4-5hrs on a single full charge didn't cut it for me. Compared to that, this laptop has great battery life and I reckon it should serve up to 7-8 hours of usage. I was doing an assignment with 20 tabs open with YT, and till midnight, around 4 hours mark it gone down to 62%. So, pretty good battery. (Update: After 4 months, still I'm getting same battery life close to 6-7 hours with all applications installed, my work doesn't require me to push the performance of this laptop to its limits so I'm getting consistent 6-7 hours every time I use it on battery)

Other than these, the laptop doesn't get hot, fans are quiet for normal tasks. CPU load is around 10-20% for what I'm doing (writing reports, assignments, browsing). So, pretty much office apps and chrome. (Update: I have noticed that sometimes the fans do kick in without me launching any demanding apps/ programs)

I'm quite happy with my purchase. But, typing on this keyboard feels abysmal. I'm using external keyboard 80% of the time, so, a little relieved. But, yeah keyboard, speaker and display are the compromises you're making for solid A+ performance. I'm not sure about the build quality as it's all plastic but I believe you can get a couple of years worth of use out of it easily. (update: The Keyboard is abysmal, glad I bought MX Keys and MX Master 3, so don't have to deal with this atrocious plasticky keyboard. But, when it requires, it gets the job done)

I wish it had USB C charging or another USB C port. Pretty happy with it during the last 4-5 months.

I'd be happy to test anything or answer any questions.

    • Is ram upgradeable?

      • +1

Yep you can upgrade both slots of RAM. and also NVMe can be upgraded. There's an empty area for an extra SSD but I'm not sure if there's available connectors that HP sells for additional SSD installation.

Can anyone give some guidance on how it compares to this laptop? https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/asus-15-6-…

    • The AMD here is more current gen whereaas the Intel is 11th gen so at least one gen behind. Perf wise, I would say the AMD is faster because of this, but thats just my guess.

  • Just brought one, good price for a decent laptop
