It's a very awkward thickness if kept horizontal. I wall mounted mine.

@lunchbox99: Sure. But the cooling arrangement has to change. If it can't there's no benefit.
However, the ps5 shape is so retarded i wouldn't be surprised if they could amend the layout without even having a die change.. I feel like it could be more compact if it was rectangular. Instead we have this weird wavy shape that takes up heaps of space when horizontal (and the vacant space below the console just gets consumed by the requisite plastic stand..yeesh).
If stood vertically then it's ok.

But, looking at a teardown, they could easily make this take even less space just by making it rectangular. Which makes a difference only when the console is used horizontally. Because then it could sit flat instead of wasting the space below the console. So the volume of the console might be 25% less but the space on a shelf much less.
However, if it's not in a cabinet or somewhere with a height restriction you still might not care.
@scuderiarmani: PS5 is massive and in my view, unnecessarily so due to its odd dimensions. This means they could shrink the size just by using a more space efficient design. I mean look at the xbox series X - basically the same hardware and much better utilisation of space. Sure it looks like a fridge, but I prefer the design over the ridiculously oversized ps5.

The funny part isn't the price basically being RRP, it's that people are actually dumb enough to buy this overpriced crap.
If they could price it reasonably for the age of the product, maybe worth, maybe.
Nah, consoles still have their place
- We're still reasonably early within the PS5's lifecycle
- Even after the PS6 is released, the PS5 will continue to work
- For AAA games, the Console is an easy platform without having to worry about the specs of a PC
- Doubles as a media centre
- AFAIK, it is still reasonably priced compared to an equivalent PC
- Easy remote play

Well I had the bundle from Big W eBay plus deal. Sold the game. Same price as this and no need to fight over it.
A bargain at double the price
I bought my *ahem -rival console- at full whack through Telstra's payment plan thing in 2020. Absolutely no regrets. I've easily got $750 worth of entertainment out of it already. Might not be an Oz Bargain mind set, but sometimes full price is still fine depending on the circumstances.
I got one, it wouldn't take 5 disks as advertised, only one.
Time to get ACCC on their arses for false advertisements.
