      new?

      • +2

        Def not.

      • not yet.. and it was a launch version, too. But still

    • +60

There was a Reddit post yesterday of some guy with a trolley full of PS5s trying to return them in a Walmart in the US lol. OP said that Walmart refused to and blacklisted him from returning them entirely as he tried to do it in multiple stores.

I revel in the fact there are scalpers out there with PS5s gathering dust that they canā€™t make a profit on anymore and will probably have to sell for a loss.

      • +2

It's a shame that they have made so much that the losses will be minimal though.

        • Assuming the scalpers started early lol.

      • Serves them right.

  • Wow nice bargain!

  • +4

Now this we call is a bargain, PS5 below RRP.

    • +33

Increase RRP by $50 and offer a $37 discount. Genius!

      • +12

Jack's got a new job at Sony.

        • +1

If only Muzeeb got a job at Sony. These be 79.95 each.

  • +23

    This is devastating for scalpers

    • +2

I dont think any scalpers will stack the consoles since it is in stock for months.

    • +2

The Scalper saga has long been over. There hasn't been stock issues for a while now.

  • +17

PS5 below RRP? This is the recession indicator!

    • +8

      Nature is healing šŸ˜Œ

  • Really enjoying mine. Don't think anyone should pay more than $720 (10% off cards) though.

    • +2

      What games are you playing?

Iā€™m tempted to get either a Steam Deck, PS5 or new gaming PC. Leaning towards a Steam Deck right nowā€¦

      • +2

Tbh all those options are good. It would be hard to be unhappy.

I haven't had it long and keep in mind i have a pc with gamepass so I'm only interested in exclusives or if its a lot cheaper on ps5. I finished Ratchet and clank then did a couple laps of gt7 (not sure I'm good enough for modern racing games… Gt1 and metropolis street racer are the last racing games i played) and now Callisto protocol (not an exclusive, nor even a very good game so far but i got it for the $29 price error)

        • Yeah theyā€™re all decent options, just depends on what I prioritise the most.

Leaning towards Steam Deck > PC > PS5.

          • +1

            @Ghost47: Personally, I would rank those PS5 > Steam Deck > PC.

            My thought process is:
I currently have a good gaming PC (running a 3080) and constantly find myself wanting even more power - I think because the graphics adjustment/options are there and some games still don't run like butter. I would probably forego the PC in favour of a PS5 if I didn't use mine for work as well.

With PS5 those options aren't there (apart from performance/resolution), you just enjoy what you have. Also if I'm not mistaken, the PS5 is fast af to go from off to in game and playing.

Steam deck I think is great, and since having a switch I have really come to appreciate portable gaming, but I feel like I would have a similar issue to PC gaming and the price/performance is hard to swallow (I know this is inherent with anything portable, but regardless it hurts).

            • @DeToxin: Makes sense considering you already have a gaming PC and you want better performance. I have none of those things so I'm coming from a differnet perspective.

      • +2

get the membership as well and you will have plenty of games to download and play. extra membership is worth.
Games you can play ghost of tsushima, god of war, stray, WWE etc

      • I feel like the PC would be the most flexible. Steam deck would be the most restricted but the only mobile gaming option out of those options. PS5 is great if you enjoy console gaming with a controller and the long lifespan of the console. Something to consider, is PS5 right now can only play games at EITHER 60fps or 30fps with ray tracing. Which is quite bad IMO.

        • Yeah. PC would be most flexible but also most expensive and I might miss out on PS5 exclusives.

Steam Deck is great for portability but if I want to enjoy gaming at 1440p 144hz itā€™s not possible.

PS5 is good but mainly for exclusives.

          • +1

@Ghost47: Steam deck struggles to play most modern games from the last 4-5 years at 720p 30fps at medium to low graphics, except far less graphically demanding games I guess.

            • @onlinepred: Yeah? Thatā€™s surprising.. I thought games from last 4-5 years would be ok, like Spider-Man and God of War (not Ragnarok).

          • @Ghost47: What games are PS5 exclusives? Removing the remaster and remakes:

            Rachet and clank
            God of War ragnarok
            Horizon forbidden west
            Ghost of Tsushima
            GT7
            FF7 intergrade

And if you have a ps4 and pc there really isn't any exclusive for ps5 2 years after the console has been released

            • @azngamer: Arenā€™t those all exclusive to PS5 right now? On top of that, Demonā€™s Souls too although from what Iā€™ve seen you can emulate it on Steam Deck.

These days there are more games that are ported to PC after being exclusive to the PS5 (e.g. Spider-Man) but that doesnā€™t guarantee that PS5 exclusives will definitely be ported over after 1-2 years.

              • @Ghost47: Of the 6 I listed, at least 3 can be playable by ps4. So not ps5 exclusive.

Demons soul is a remake of a ps3 game.

To clarify, I'm not trying to poop on ps5. It's a great console if you only choose 1, it's a very capable and solid machine.

But from an exclusive point of view, it's lacking in exclusives despite being out for 2 years.

Playstation lost a lot of exclusives, horizon, God of war, Persona

                • @azngamer: Well yeah they're playable on PS4 but I'm comparing a PC/Steam Deck and PS5.

But after seeing that list nothing really stands out, not enough for me to want to buy a PS5 right now anyway. I think Demon's Souls remake is what I'd really want to play if I had a PS5.

      • +2

        @Ghost47
I have had a PS5 since launch and also game on PC. I do enjoy console games for the multiplayer and exclusives (Ratchet and Clank is BRILLIANT) and Stray and GOW but on PC i do perfer to play shooters on there as KB and Mouse are hard to beat so I would ask the type of games you play ? Steam Deck would be brilliant from what I read if your travelling a lot and have a decent stack of games to play on steam.

        • I wouldnā€™t mind getting back into CS GO a bit. But mainly looking to play games like Spider-Man, Fallout 3 again, Hogwarts Legacy eventually.

Steam Deck would be great for portability and seems more conducive for shorter gaming sessions but graphics would be way nicer on PC.

I can imagine myself using the Steam Deck on flights etc. but at the same time if Iā€™m going overseas I donā€™t mind using in-flight entertainment, and if Iā€™m on a train [overseas] I think playing on a console detracts from the enjoyment of actually being overseas, i.e. Iā€™d rather be paying attention to the world around me than have games in my face.

      • +2

It also comes down to your lifestyle. I have been busy recently and found sitting on the couch and playing PS5 to be more relaxing than using my PC. Most of my multiplayer gameplay is PC with Discord.

As already mentioned, flexibility on a PC is great - For example, I also use PCVR wirelessly with a Quest 2. HL Alyx was an amazing experience. I am planning another playthrough with wireless VR/better GPU. Games are easy to mod - eg: Beatsaber.

Steamdeck is pretty interesting - I have one on order to use out and about.

As for games I have played recently/plan to play:

PC: AOE4, PUBG, Death Stranding, Death Stranding, TIS-100, CyberPunk 2077, Control, Ghostwire Tokyo, HL2 VR mod, Crazy Taxi
PS5: Horizon Forbidden West, Stray, Last Of US, Ghost of Tsushima.
PS5 Multiplayer: It takes two, Overcooked

        • True. These days I don't really have nor want to spend heaps of time gaming anymore, just play games every now and then. It would be nice if the games are visually stunning (hence PC or PS5) but Steam Deck seems a bit more conducive to short gaming sessions lying in bed or whatever.

I know I can hook up the Steam Deck to a monitor but doubt the graphics look that nice.

          • @Ghost47: If you've got a good wifi setup, streaming a nicely setup PC to an Android device with a controller attachment might be best. Especially if you don't want to use it travelling and just for in bed/at home sessions.

            • +1

@Orion au: Ah forgot that's possible, I don't have any Android devices though. I think I'd prefer a standalone portable device as opposed to having to stream it as well.

  • +18

umm this is OzRRP, we don't like PS5 bargains here

    • +6

I will never forget the RRP for disc version was $749.

  • Is this an indication that a PS5 slim or pro or next version coming? Seems like alot of retails have stock now and now want to get rid of it

    • +7

No, it's just a sign production has caught up to demand.

    • Not till towards the end of the year at least. Possibly with Spider-man 2ā€™s release around November.

    • +1

Rumours are that a PS5 that can use a plug-in optical disc drive (that you have to buy separately) is coming later this year — and this single model will replace both the existing disc and digital PS5 models — but there won't be any actual performance differences under the hood. This probably won't be the "PS5 Slim", I think that will most likely come later.

I'd say a PS5 Pro is very unlikely to happen, they'll just go straight to the PS6 in a few years' time.

Where is the usual "It's On ZaaLe BeCaUse Is Not SeLliNg" comment??

    • +1

Itā€™s on sale because the better console (the Switch) is half the price. How about that? ;)

    • +1

      That's only for Xbox deals

Obligatory comment before downvote. Ps6 in 2 year. Unbelievable how the covid pandemic effect our timeline.

    • +2

Isn't it every 7 years after release? I didn't downvote you btw.

      • +10

        PS1 Dec 1994
PS2 Nov 2000 (Mar in Japan)
        PS3 Nov 2006
        PS4 Nov 2013
        PS5 Nov 2020

Yeah, looks to be 6-7 years for each generation. So expect the PS6 late 2026 or 2027.
        No chance in 2 years

        • +1

I agree, and I think with COVID essentially causing delays in PS5s being manufactured, who knows if the current cycle could have an extra year or two added on. It's possible development of the PS6 has been delayed or maybe Playstation want to recoup the R&D costs more before designing the next console.

        • "So expect the PS6 late 2026 or 2027."

And Pro models are in between right? So every 6 years in between?
          So wouldn't it mean PS5 Nov 2020 = PS5 Pro Nov 2023??

I am seeing a lot of conflicting comments about the 5 Pro is coming or not coming. I don't have a console and not a big gamer so I only know what I read here, but I keep reading conflicting statements about it.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Truth is that nobody knows. I based my estimate on previous generations life cycles but the pandemic and shortages may push it out.
Same goes for an upgraded revision. It may come the end of this year, maybe next or potentially not at all.
We wonā€™t know any more information unless Sony officially release it

    • Ps7 in 7 years. Hodl.

Does anyone else think the heading is for PlayStation that can load 5 disks

  • This or wait for PS6?

    • +11

World War 3 is imminent. Play games while you still can.

      • Yeah as crazy as it sounds I think you are right!

    • -1

You build a PC, Zen 4 components and all you have to do is upgrade the GPU when you need to in the years to come.

      • +2

And that lets you play PS5 games?

        • Well eventually, Sony are delay releasing on PC! But yeah I know what you mean. It's why I have a PS5 and PC :)

          • +2

            @Justin9mm:

Sony are delay releasing on PC!

Of course, they do! Exclusives are one of the big draw cards for the PS5. If you are interested in playing them within a few years of the release date, you need a PS5.

      • +2

Yeah, but you also have to buy a monitor, a display, a keyboard, a mouse, and maybe a controller. IIRC, you'll also be paying more for an equivalent PC.

PCs have their place, but so do consoles. Recently, I've found myself playing my PS5 more as it's more relaxing to sit on the couch at the end of a long day.

        • I've never bought a separate monitor and display

      • Nah. Started playing PC games from 8 years old, got a PS3 when I was 23 and never looked back.

PC games just tend to have more bugs due to multiple reasons (having to support multiple systems/hardware at the same time, less budget due to piracy and other reasons, the list goes on).

The most important thing about console games is, they just work. I've had way too many bad experiences on PC in the past 30 odd years. One of the many examples I still remember clearly is Heroes of Might and Magic 6, I couldn't even play it due to stupid DRM and had to download a pirate version in order to play. Countless games were just a bug fest and crashed left and right. The quality of PC games has increased quite a bit over the past 20 years, but I'd still choose to play on consoles whenever I can.

        • +1

Iā€™m with you. And whenever I tried to ā€œupgradeā€ and get back into Pc gaming for the finest experience, I never enjoy it. I bought a HD7970 which was cool but not that crazy compared to the shitty card it replaced. Then again I tried with a asus rog 1080Ti when it first dropped - the pinnacle for a while there, and all I got was driver issues on many prime big time games, empty MP rooms and games that took ages to start. Occasional blue screens - so much happier with my ps5 and no way would I now try again with a 4090 or whatever theyā€™re up to. Biggest con in history.

          • +1

@BusMan247: That's exactly the problem. Things don't always work or work well.

Actually just remembered another big thing. There are just so many cheaters on PC that lots of games are literally unplayable. You rely on game devs to implement anti-cheat, but they don't always put in the effort. In comparison, consoles generally have much much much much higher quality multiplayer games.
