What kind of student using 4K with 144hz???

    • +34

      Must for word pad

    • +15

One not paying for things themselves.

    • +17

Lets see. How about them student doing graphics design, game developer, and doing multimedia?

Nah no student needs it really.

    • +8

Someone who wants to future proof themselves.

        • +4

Didnt neg you but you sound like you got an axe to grind on people who are a little well off. Or born into a wealthy family.

          • +5

            @xoom:

you got an axe to grind on people who are a little well off. Or born into a wealthy family

I absolutely don't. it was meant to be a joke or friendly banter.

            • +2

@dealhunter52: No no. I see it. But maybe an emoticon or a /s would have helped your cause.

          • @xoom: No, it's an axe to grind with wasteful individuals.

          • @xoom: you definitely did. I can see it with ozb extension lol

        • I took you as joking.
Nothing wrong with spending $1000 or whatever on a monitor if needed, but the connection with "student discount" is amusing.

Funny thing, when I was a poor student, I spent far more on my kick-arse 1024x768 CRT (inflation adjusted), than I will now on a monitor when I'm old and have a paid-off mortgage. Because I have 4K glory for $200 thanks to OzBargain.

          • @bargaino: But the disconnect is that many peoples idea of a student are yr 12 and below. Or even college kids doing courses not even tech or IT related.

And yes sure they are students too but so are those doing IT courses specifically doing graphics related course, computer gaming related course and multimedia course.
            They are students too.

      Excel

If your macros don’t run fast enough to need 144Hz you’re scripting wrong.

  • +13

Pulled the trigger in Dec with the price ~$850….. had 2 month vacation having it delivered to my friend’s place and then now coming back home seeing this promotion for $739………

    • +4

Unless it is a REALLY good price, don't buy long ahead of time.

(I say as I wonder if I should buy it, even though I don't need it yet…)

      • Price drops are a big thing but also 3 months of warranty gone too !!

    • +2

I too hate it when I finish my two month vacation to find the world has continued to rotate without me

  • after the code, i only got 5% discount to $779?

    • You need to get the student discount too, they stack

      • how to get student discount?

            @Kazusa: brilliant, thanks a lot

          • +1

@Kazusa: Those instructions don't seem to work. I get an error saying "Oops, something went wrong". Any leads on what could be done, please?

            • +1

@CocaKoala: I believe you need an actual .edu email now. It would only accept my edu one, but still hasn’t emailed me a coupon.

  • Pricing getting progressively better, nice to see.

  • Damn this is pretty good price. I don’t need 144hz but if price goes sub 500$ will be interested.

    • Still long way to go to get there though :(
      Im currently on a Dell 32" 1440P and would prefer a 4K

      • I am on Kogan 4k. It looks really bad when i work from home. My office has Lg Ultrafine 5k 34inch which is so perfect. If i find that monitor in this price, i will take that with zero hesitation.

        • Tell,’em he’s dreamin!

You don’t often see the LG Ultrafine 5K at less that $1800.

Personally before I buy my next monitor I will wait and see what the Samsung s9 5K and the new Dell ultrasharp 6K will be priced.
There is even talk Apple might soon release new 5K and 6K displays at lower prices (jk).
Not that the OzB crowd will be too interested in any of these. 60Hz.

    • Don't think you can find a monitor that tick all the options here: 4K, 32 inch, 144Hz, IPS, sub 500$ and brand new. They will stop selling this one before the price ever hit that deep.

  • +1

Amazing price! 4k120 is a sight to behold. You might have to turn down some settings to achieve that though unless you have a 4090 with a high end CPU.

    • +1

I have an EVGA 3080 FTW3 and even on 60hz I need to sacrifice some settings if I want to have an stable framerate.

      • Thats why you need a 4xxx series card silly.

        🙃

    • I recently upgraded to amd7950x with GTX4090

I might jump the gun on this.

I was hoping to wait and pull the trigger on the Asus ROG 42inch OLED…

      • You can get the LG C2 if you have a 4090, it will work with GSync over the HDMI 2.1 port. The C2 has been as low as $1300 or so, can't find the PG42UQ anywhere for less than 2300

        • +1

Have been thinking about the c2 also. I'll wait it out abit

    • Would this work well with a PS5

      • Yes, great for console gaming.

      • It works, but will have the sub-sampling thing because HDMI port on this one is half-bandwidth

  • Anyone use this for ps5? I want to pull the trigger bit need a push haha

    • +2

      Do iiittt.

  • that price kinda making me want to buy it, wasn't it like way expensive last year thought it was like 2k,
I'm planning to build a PC when the next gen GPU come out so might wait to buy a monitor until then as have 3070 laptop and it won't make full use of it now

  • Great monitor.

  • GG literally bought this yesterday afternoon using (now expired) code CNY100 :( $896.70. Any idea if Dell rep refunds the difference even using a promo code?

    • -1

Heres an out there idea. So left field. So out of the box.

Ring them or chat to them on their online chat box. Even email. Worst they will say is no.

      • +4

Hi there, just on the chat with them atm as we speak actually. They said they can reimburse only the cost of the original price i.e. without promo code. Id rather not waste any time re-ordering and cancelling so just accepting the price difference of $77.00.

Btw I don't appreciate your condescending tone on the first line. All I was asking was if other people have had experience previously for asking the refund on promo codes.

        • +5

My bad. It was always best to ask the shop as they usually have the final say on wether they will or not. Any anecdotal reports you get might just set you up for a fail if someone said they got reimbursed the difference and you don't get it.

    • +1

Ive had this happen via their ebay store and they would not partial refund. I had to cancel order (this is before it shipped) then I placed a new order. So maybe they might be the same with their official store

      • Not really understanding the reasoning behind this but i guess their store. Their rules. Still worth asking them i guess.

  • +3

Oh man I just bought a Gigabyte M32U for like 900 bucks

    • +1

I got a M32U but on the brightside, we have the KVM feature (that I've never used). We've also got a USB C port and speakers apparently!

A more detailed comparison found here: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/gigabyte-m32u-v…

      • Never previously sought internal speakers … until my daughter got sick of her brother gaming in her room and I set up a rig in a common area. I have the M28U, the up firing rear audio is truly terrible (Dell sound bars are HiFi in comparison), but it was one less bit of clutter. The KVM feature will come in useful when the Steam Deck arrives.

    • New? Where from? I'm trying to sell mine

  • +4

    No Muzeeb, no dell

    • +2

      Yeah @Muzeeb where you at.

We need these at $73.95 each.

      • +5

        PM sent

        • hehe, I have been waiting for a good deal on DWF.

This seems like best so far… but still seems high when best ever DW price has been less.

    • -1

I think we need @dealbot instead.

  • Thanks!

  • This is a great price…someone push me over the edge and I'll get the G3223Q. Give me your best encouragement! Currently gaming PS5 on an Dell S3221QS - no VRR, 60hz, VA panel with terrible ghosting…

  • Been looking for a new monitor for a while. This deal or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/754802?

Intended use is mixed with mostly productivity/WFH but occasional PC/console gaming.

    • +1

This will have sharper text for productivity and a more normal aspect ratio, also consoles don’t really do ultrawide

    • +2

Depends on your budget really. This one has more pixels (138 ppi vs 109), slightly larger display area and better HDR.

      They're both pretty good though.

Also something to note - neither one of them has speakers, though they do both have a headphone port.

    • Thanks for the feedback!

  • Worth upgrading from a DELL S2722QC (27inch 4k at 60hz) ?

    • +1

      Yes if you’re gaming

      • Yes mainly gaming and "some" WFH

  • Really like this 4k monitor, however I only have a 1660 Super, would it struggle with this 4k monitor?

    • Upgrade to 4070 ti!

      Or a 6800 will do

      • +1

Then I have to upgrade the whole unit…..

Guess it's a no for me then?

    • +1

What kind of games tho? I have this monitor for nearly a year already, use it with 1660 and recently 6600xt for esport gaming (Lol, CSGO…) therefore hit 4k 144Hz easily. Obv cant expect much 4k gaming with recent AAA games.

  • Would this work wellwith a MAC mini. M1 chip?

  • Bloody hell, that’s a good price for the 32inch

  • +2

    I have the G3223Q, it's absolutely magnificent.

The refresh rate is great - not because I run at 144fps, but running games between 40ish and 90ish fps it makes everything super responsive and basically kills any possibility of screen tearing/lag (particularly with freesync).

At this price it's a steal.

    • Love the mini review, thanks. Ordered, hope it doesn't take too long to arrive. Shipping date estimate is Feb 6th.

  • Has anyone tried this monitor with a PS5? Maybe it's worthwhile sticking to a Neo G8 instead?

    • +1

Neo g8 would be way better than this monitor. And also more than twice the price.

      • which g8 - va panel one? over oled? mmmmmm

        • The Neo G8 and Neo G7 would both eat this monitor alive for HDR, because they have miniLED 1196-zone backlights while this has a terrible 8-zone local dimming feature.

          • +1

@twister292: I'm guessing you never owned oled

            • @botchie: I was comparing the miniLED Samsungs to this dell with its terrible excuse of HDR.

As for OLEDs, simply nowhere near as bright as miniLED panels for full screen sustained brightness, especially in SDR. The LG C2, LG 48GQ900 and Gigabyte FO48U, for example can barely hold 140 nits at full screen sustained. It gets annoying when working with office and productivity work to have these massive brightness fluctuations when resizing windows.

The 1000 nits you speak of on the Dell is for a window size of less than 10%.

              • @twister292: Fair , yeah for productivity you don't need oled but gaming and media , it's the best
