AI now posting on ozbargain. I'm impressed 😉

  • Wait, hol up, I thought chatgpt can't scour the internet yet?

    • It was inevitable.

  • Note about the display:

    Display : 15.6 inch FHD (1920x1080) TN 250nits Anti-glare, 45 percent NTSC

i.e. dim display & bad viewing angle. R3 5300U is still quite a respectable chip though.

    • Low end are swimming in shitty screens.

But its only $500 and would suit a lot of people like my old dad.

      • Not arguing against the value, and I can definitely see myself buying something like this for my dad, to connect to a 27" full-HD external display with 150% scaling so he can read the text.

It's just a pity though, that the CPU, memory & storage are all good enough for not just the old dads but many typical office workers / students, but the display (a non-upgradable component of the system) is a let down. Maybe TN panels have improved a lot over the years, but some of the old ThinkPads that I still own (T410, S430) have TN panels and I just can't get used to them now.

        • Agree.
Honestly the screen would be probably better than the dell he has had for many many years.
For him its a better choice than another new battery (three so far , thats how old it is).

Me though, a cheap 14 inch 16GB with decent battery and screen seems impossible at the moment. Dell had one around $1200 but screen is 250nit and colour very poor…

@PVA: Will never understand why people moan about certain aspects of items that are clearly good value. If the screen was brilliant you would pay more!

Its like people making comments about a 50 dollar phone not being good for gaming.

            • @Brianqpr: Because ppl don't understand the concept of fit for purpose and unable to put it in perspective. Also ognore the fact that many ppl just use external monitors for the majority of the time. Let's not even open the cheap bike can of worms

          • @PVA: This isn’t exactly around $1200 however Jbhifi were able to bring the below laptop to $1360 for me yesterday. I did not try to negotiate so not sure if there’s much more left in that. Screen is 100%sRGB, 300 nits.and includes the pen.

I've never quite gotten viewing angles. I look at my laptop front on, not at a 45° angle lol

      • Some might consider it a built in privacy feature when using in public. Depending on what you use it for, a 2nd monitor at a desktop would give you even more options.

      • you right bad viewing angle means other cant see what you typing….

        • can others see what i'm watching ?

@dcep: Your good to go watch PH. Just make sure you got headphones on while on the train or bus. Or it could get weird/awkward.

    • OzB always negative towards 250 nits displays, but mine looks great on Dell G15, it depends more on the quality of the panel.

Anyone know how long you get from a fully charged battery?

  • 8GB RAM !!!

    OMG

Cue people freaking out and shitting themselves.

    • Nah. We are good. Since theres a free sodimm slot.

      • Not free. It's populated.

        Memory 4GB Soldered DDR4-3200 + 4GB SO-DIMM DDR4-3200

        • What i meant was you can take the 4GB SO-DIMM and replace it with something bigger.

Something you can't say if the whole 8GB RAM was soldered.

Which was what Dack Smith was alluding to about being outraged by only having 8GB of RAM.
