      Yep just bought some

My wife told me don't buy roses, buy a succulent instead, that you can keep forever, unlike these roses will wither away…

    • +85

Better yet, a succulent chinese meal.

      • +2

        This is democracy manifest

      • +1

        I understood this reference.

    • +6

Unlike wives, succulents thrive on neglect !

      • Im putting that on a valentines day and mothers day cards. Im going to be rich.

  • +3

I'm waiting for the out of stock notification 5 mins after ALDI opens.

  • +4

Up voted for odd use of question marks.

  • +1

Plot twist: Your partner is also an ozbarginer and saw your comment / vote.

    • +1

"they're so smart and frugal, I'm going to do the thing with the cucumber and battery charger they love, then finish off with The Lion King".

  • +9

    Anyone wanna go halves? :)

    • +7

Hope your wife doesnโ€™t mind ๐Ÿ™‚

      • +4

        Eiffel Tower or Spit Roast?

    • ill go 3/12ths ?

    • I will take the upper half, bro.

    • Just buy a bunch and sell half on fb mp for $25

  • +2

How long do roses last? will they still be good for tomorrow if bought today?

    • of course, make sure it's left in a cool (aircon?) area

    • -1

Stick them in the fridge. If you got room that is.

      • how would you hide it in the fridge???

        • +3

Put it in a box of beers. She will never look in there.

          • @xoom: I dont have box of beers, I've been cutting down on booze

            • +1

@Homr: Clothes closet. But be sure to hang them upside down.

        • I put in the patio fridge.

    • It'll be fine for a few days.

    • It will last forever if you hang them upside down.

    • If they look pretty fresh today, they will still be okay tomorrow if you look after them. As soon as you can after purchase, put in a clean jar/vase/bucket with fresh water at least a couple of inches deep and store somewhere cool and not too bright/sunny.

    • I kept inside workplace locker, bottom dipped in water

  • +1

TBH, if you really feel the need to participate in a Hallmark 'event', this is probably the best Valentines Day bargain I've seen on here.
At least it is relevant, not like the Bitcoin, Lego, Skincare, Coles, Subway giftcards, toothbrush, etc., etc.

    • +7

I was nodding until I saw your comment about the Lego. TAKE IT BACK!

      • +3

If my valentine don't like LEGO. she has got to go.

        • +1

In the meantime, I'll be your Valentine.

        • Lego of her

  • +7

These are not long stem. So need to get some stem extenders and glue them on to make it look like the the expensive stuff.

    • +3

Everytime I buy her long stems she cuts them to fit in her vase ….

      • +4

looks good on instagram story/reel as a long stem though - and really, isnt that what they actually care about :)

        • +2

She cuts them before they go on her snap story :')

    • What's special about long stem?

      • 6 inches ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜

        • ๐Ÿ˜“ I thought we are being wholesome for V-Day at least.

          • @frugalftw: Thought this was where being perverted was one of the days comment like these will fly. The rest of the time. It just get shot down.

            • @xoom: Lol maybe save that energy for your actual valentine, not on a pretended place where people exchange text strings :P

I've been on 2 years to have a look at these roses and they're disgusting. They're all about a third of the size as the ones in OP's attached photo and half of them were starting to wilt already.
I think most people would be happier to receive a few pristine roses than a bouquet of garbage.

    • Back before everything when we worked in the city for v-day they'd have a stall at Flinders where you buy just 1 really nice rose for $10. Think it'll $15 these days. There were also random popups, litterally one guy/old lady standing on the street with a bucket of roses, $5 cash only.

    • +1

I have to say OP got some really good ones. My local Aldi stocks roses that are much smaller and slightly withered

      • +1

Can confirm, went and checked local aldis (West Melbourne). Roses were very small and sad looking, nothing like OPโ€™s

    • Add some crushed up Viagra to the water and they'll laster longer.

      • Doesn't have to be a viagra. Any crushed up tablet like paracetamol will do.

        • +1

So glad my GP bulk bills. Now I have all this excess Viagra.

    • Would the minority happy to receive these particular roses please pm me directly.

I also have money for chocolates, if required.

  • +5

    I should call her

  • Just buy a custom box like the florists do, wrap a ribbon and your partner will never know ๐Ÿคฃ

    • +5

Oh they know. They always know.

    • too bad aldi roses look terrible

  • +1

thanks. i can book a better hotel with this saving

  • This is my first Valentines. Do I still need to buy flowers if I already bought her a valentines gift??

    • +17

Yes. The answer is yes. Even if she said dont buy hey flowers. You buy it anyway.

      • +2

You serious? This is turning out to be 1 expensive event.

        Gift + Flowers + Dinner

        • +1

You do what you got to do.

        • Tell me about it, just tell her (profanity) inflation off the roof I canโ€™t afford to lavish you nowadays ๐Ÿ˜…

        • +22

Women are expensive. It's why you don't see any deal listings on ozbargain

        • +1

…well, find a OzB type of girl,
where she endorses your efforts even more,
BECAUSE you got the Aldi roses.

        • Suck it or Break up and be single again.

          Pick one mate.

          • @chrisishere: can't tell if you're saying that to them, or to say to her when they're handed over.

I think she'll appreciate the assertiveness, I'm sure

      • Thus vastly improving your chances of a rฬถoฬถoฬถ… um nice evening

    • If the flowers are still required, she's failed the test.

  • And damm I just bought some from Costco too and I thought it was cheaper than the florist at $55

  • Genuine question, is it worth picking up today or tomorrow? What's the best way to store them overnight so they are still good for tomorrow? Thanks fellas in advance.

    • +4

Any dark cool place like a wardrobe. Hang upside down.

      • Why hang upside down??

        • +3

So the flowers dont bend from the weight.

          • +1

            @xoom: What a ProTip.

            • +2

@whyisave: Learnt that from an ex gf who kept the flowers i gave her when we were together. She use to dry them up this way also.

      • +1

Don't the flowers deteriorate due to lack of water?

        • +1

They will be fine for a day or two. They will wilt if the place they are stored in is too dry or warm or both.

    • +1

…is it worth picking up today or tomorrow?

Obviously, it would be best to 'pick up' from Wednesday onwards, so as to avoid this "Day".

  • +2

I walked into aldi, plenty of roses available, She'll like the week old roses with burnt petals. I doubt your misses would like factory second roses

  • and remember to pay cash for the discounts and just in case this your partner check your credit card statement.

  • roses are very small and not good quality IMO

  • I hope it is 1 per customer. You already know what some shameless people are going to do…

    • +2

What they going to do? Buy one for the mrs. Then another for the side chick?

Nah side chick will get the ones thats cost 5 times this.

      • side hustle $$$

        • side hustle old looking roses?

  • +4

Just went to have a look, quality was poor. Edges of petals wilted and black. The other flowers they had there looked better and were cheaper.

    • +3

Maybe you were beaten to the good ones

  • -1

The ironic part with valentines day is someone else took her flower and now every year I have to give her flowers - doesnt seem right

    • +1

      Raise it with the ACCC.

  • +4

    Roses are red

    Watch out for jack

  • +3

Never celebrated Valentine's Day once in 15 years. We have an anniversary, don't need a hallmark holiday telling us to spend up to show our monetary love.

    • +1

You got a keeper. Hold on to that one. The rest of us schmucks have to just buy them flowers just like every schmuck every feb 14.

  • +1

Put it in a jar with water and pop a viagra in it. Thank me later.

    • +4

Instructions unclear. Now im pitching a tent. What do i do?

      • +1
