  • Just under $10 per kg is a fantastic value

Just under $10 per kg is a fantastic value

      How?
It's only 61% chicken and 39% crap, so that works out to $16.39/kg for the chicken, much more expensive than $10/kg you can buy 100% real chicken from Coles or Woolies.

      • +11

How much do you value your time?
Cracking the eggs, making the bread crumb and flour mixes.

        • +41

please don't this because you're going to make the next generation bad cooks. If you have time, learn to make it yourself, because you can't buy the skill of cooking and it can be a family event.
I want to grow old in 40 years time and enjoy a decent meal cooked by my kids.

Its dissapointing where i'm going to parties where im eating potato salad from woolies, sausages and chicken wings.

@supaderp: just the 1 ozbargain account in the household i take it >_<

          • +8

@supaderp: you're disappointed when you get invited to other peoples houses for free food?…

            • +4

@hippyhippy: rule #1 , never go to someone's home empty handed.

            • +2

@hippyhippy: Yeh, shit free food, is still shit food. Why do people think I should be happy with being served bland, crap, processed food just because it's free?

            • @hippyhippy: If I was being served shit like these heart shaped schnitties then yes.

              • @Maz78: I agree with that, but these are not the heart-shaped ones which I agree are not the best. However, these at $1 each are good and taste nice. I have been eating them for years and buy them 10 at a time when they are on special.

          • @supaderp: Someone isn't ND. To people with ADHD/Autism, the time to do that gives them anxiety. While it is better, the ease of grabbing something in a store could help with their mental health.

            • +6

@Moventura: No one needs to adjust their behavior or lifestyle because of a minute percent of the population have a mental health issue, can't control their emotions or just refuse to learn basic social skills. It's also stupid to assume people with ADHD/Autism can't learn how to cook.

              • @infinite: Dude, I have ADHD. I know how to cook and am an awesome cook, but sometimes it's just much easier and less effort to grab something pre-made. All the planning and organising to cook is sometimes just too much. Especially for those of us that can't get their hands on medication.

              • -2

@infinite: Also, an approximate 10% of the population with ADHD isn't minute. Unfortunately many of them aren't diagnosed.

No one's saying that you have to adjust your lifestyle, just don't suspect that everyone can easily put together the effort to cook food rather than buy at the shop. That's why we have things like this.

                • @Moventura: Less than 5% of the entire population of Australia has ever received a diagnosis of any level of ADHD & of those diagnosed (https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/attention-deficit-disorder-a…), anywhere from 50%-80% were simply just over-active kids under the age of 6, mis-diagnosed while being as young a 1 month old ! (https://www.pghr.org/post/the-global-misdiagnosis-of-adhd-an…).

Seems rather odd you don't have the first clue about ADHD, despite attempting to claim victimhood by saying you have it………….

                  • -1

@infinite: I ssaid diagnised. Look at the rates of diagnosis over the past few years. Massive amounts of people have been diagnosed in the past few years, I know many that aren't diagnosed and wont go that route due to being $1000 to even talk to a psych.

The National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) 2003–2011—based on parent interviews—highlights the following data for children aged 4–17 (US CDC 2014):

5.1 million children (8.8% or 1 in 11 of this age group 4–17 years) have a current diagnosis of ADHD:
                    6.8% of children ages 4–10 (1 in 15)
                    11.4% of children ages 11–14 (1 in 9)
                    10.2% of children ages 15–17 (1 in 10)

Due to the fact many adults went through childhood with undiagnosed adhd, the general rate of 5% is deeply flawed as they count into the total population. I work with children and there are many I see that I'm positive have adhd, but parents don't want to know about it. Much of the issue is lack of knowledge about adhd, which you seem to fall into. While people that have impulsive type are usually picked up due to being a disruption in calss, those that have inattentive type are missed. They are usually just known as the "forgetful kid" that "just needs to push themselves harder" because they "Have so much potential". Or the fat kid in class, that if they could manage their impulse control from adhd, would no longer be the fat kid.

So how about do yourself some research before saying I claim victimhood. While you are happy shaming people because "everyone has the time to make the food"

And no reputable person will diagnose a 1 month old. Most wont even diagnose younger than 6. I know this for a fact as I tried to get my son diagnosed at 5 and they wouldn't until he was 6. I ended up being diagnosed months before him even though it was his symptoms that made me realise at 40 that I also had adhd my whole life without knowing.

                    • -1

@Moventura: Why are you making that complete garbage up, Moventura?

The base cost for a first time visit to a private Psychiatrist for a meeting of 45min or less in Australia is $279, with a base Medicare rebate of 75%. That means your total cost for a psych visit is less than $100 - unlike the ridiculous claim you just made, being over 10x that amount. Most Psych's bulk-bill for children & those under 16yr's old too, so they charge nothing at all, or just a small gap.

Why would any parent take any advice from you? You sit around making up stories on the internet.

I've already provided you with links for the actual data and research from the Australian Government and current peak research group covering ADHD. What have you put on the table other than a quote from some parental survey of what parents generally felt from over a decade ago that you wouldn't even actually link too & then just straight-up obvious lies? Nothing, that's what !

          • +1

@supaderp: Then learn how to cook it in 40 years time

          • +1

@supaderp: I use these to make chicken katsu and japanese curry on weeknights when I am time poor. Its better tasting and cheaper than fastfood takeaway. I also spend a lot of time making real curries from scratch on my days off.
Because I use these premade schnitzels and am time poor am I destined to be a bad cook?

Or perhaps, maybe, just maybe, there is a time and a place to make things from scratch amd a time to use premade…

        • +3

thats like, 5-10min prep at most, for a better tasting product

        • +3

Its pretty easy tbh and wayyyyy better.

        • Add some shaved parmesan to the crumb mix 👌

        • +2

How much do you value your time?

How much do you value your health? Personally, I prefer chicken without the processed filler in it, and I'm willing to spend a few extra seconds to make a meal that tastes better, is cheaper, and is better for me.

      • +1

        But… they are different foods?

      • +5

For someone who travels for work, something like this ready at home is great.

      • -2

yeah but some of us like boneless chicken.

        • +5

$10kg is around what chickens breast costs. That doesn't have bones in it

          • +1

@Zephyrus: can you cook in an air fryer in 10 min?

            • +1

              @kungfuman:

can you cook in an air fryer in 10 min?

Yes. Slicing up a full breast literally takes 3 secs. Try it some time, it's a real buzz.

      • A serving size of 118.0g x 10 = over a kg. At the cost of $1 per unit, its under $10 per kg

    • +5
  • +5

Wondering how thick is the crumb if the chicken content is only 61%

    • +17

      inb4 someone says 39%

      • +10

19.5% each side is the thickness.

        • +4

          How about the edges though?

          • +5

@Sex: Username checks out with edging comment

          • +1

@Sex: no edges, i have assumed the ends taper, even if ends are more 'rounded'

          • +1

            @Sex: surprised you didn't say 69 tbh

    • +1
    • +1

Seeing as Marinade, Salt, Sugar, Mineral Salts, Predust and Vegetable Oil aren't included in the crumb or batter I'd assume this is what is in the chicken portion and brings it down. Would be interested to know how much of the inside is actually chicken

    • +1

      chicken-crumb: border-box;

doesn't add to the thickness at all

      • I had the IT department explained it to me.

  • +12

so essentially its a giant chicken nugget for $1. If you like that sort of thing, go for it.

    • +5

How many times you paid top dollar for the maccas "cardboard" burguer?
      This does the job.

      • +2

here's one for the oldies… I've not had any chicken from Maccas besides the odd nigget since they stopped selling fried chicken in the 80s (might have been very late 70s)

  • +9

I mean, for the price as long as it doesn't kill me it could be decent to throw in the freezer and have when I cbf to cook.

    • +14

It's a good idea to cook it before eating.

      • +1

thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Not sure if I'll use the advise but I'll think about it

        • +1

No problem. Woolies really should be putting cooking instructions on the packaging, for people like you. 🙃

  • +5

61% chicken 39% fillers and trash

    Yuck

    • +4

This comment makes me thinks that yous are confused.
This is not a bargain for a chicken fillet. It's a different product.
You are free to post deals for organic chicken fillets for everyone to enjoy 👍

      • At $11.80 a kg its not even a deal

100% chicken is cheaper, but yousss probabaly like microwave tv dinner filth like this

        • +1

          Closer to $8.50 a kg given 118g for $1

  • +8

Found these decent, I mean just need a slice of cheese, 2 piece of bread, $4 aldi bigmac sauce and got a cheap meal.

    • +3

Don't forget the sliced pickles. Yum!

  • +4

Two of these for 20 mins at 180C in the air fryer from frozen. Add a slice of cheese on top and there's a quick dinner. Don't need bread because it's mostly breadcrumbs already

    • +4

I like to make that KFC double down
Two chicken schnitzel with bacon cheese and bbq sauce between

    • +2

Try 10mins at 100C then <10mins at 200C when going straight from freezer.

  • +3

Just a genuine question; who puts all their schnitty's on a board like that? What kind of maniac doesn't put them on a plate?

    • +3

lol, I don't think that is a pic of a serving suggestion. I think it is meant to be the raw product, better than showing in the glass case

  • +4

Wow a pile of mooshed up lips and a holes for $1. Yuk

    • +1

Bull-dah-dash, think more skin, dark meat, bits from left over production processes, where the more premium parts go to other things. The real thing is best of course, but sometimes a lazy meal at midnight, might get you through.

    • +2

      Chickens have lips now?

      • almost 40% isnt chicken.

        • So is it the wheat flour or the water that has the lips then?

  • +2

It's not a great product, but it's one for those CBF cooking kinda days , which thankfully, in my case, happen 2-3 times a year. There are worse things out there!

  • +2

    air fryer this baby!!

  • +2

    Cardboard patties. Yuck

  • disgusting ingredients, why does it need to have sugar and toxic canola oil?

    • +5

Didn't know canola oil is toxic.

  • +1

Is this reconstituted chicken or fillet of the breast. It says 61% breast so I'm confused.

  • +6

If these are the ones I am thinking of they taste REALLY bad.

    • +1

Agree - I bought a couple for the air fryer and found them awful.

    • +1

      Yep, they are absolutely revolting.

  • +1

61% chicken (reconstituted breast) says it all.

  • +2

just had one for lunch. it was nice. $1 well spent.

  • -3

    Meat is murder and expensive.
    This is 4 times cheaper
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/762912
I'd argue these taste better than the Woolworths schnitzels but nothing beats a fat and juicy beef burger. Need $1 beef burgers then I'm sold

    • +10

      This is 4 times cheaper
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/762912

My tip for cooking kale in a frypan, is just add a bit of olive oil, it makes it easier to slide it off the pan and into the bin.

      • lol. I wonder who negged me?

        • +1

Not me I've been banned from negging. Someone negged me bloody neggers

        • -1

It's a safe bet to assume they have no friends.

I feel like they have been becoming smaller and flatter. Like I can probably easily eat three of them. Not sure if they're really worth their weight imho.
