  • Has anyone bought a keyboard, or mouse, or a phone?

That shit is wrapped in more plastic then straws…

  • +1

    Nice. Thanks.

  • +3

Thanks.. ordered some to feed my pet turtle.

    • +2

      How is Donatello these days?

  • +1

    Booo OP

    • i thought you only say quack quack,

      Evolution man,

Who knows may be one day animals will also evolve to deal with plastic, just like how bacteria can atm

      • Since when could a straw fit inside a bacterias nose/mouth and cause it to suffocate?

        • Since the greenies said so.

  • +2

I'm going to do my bit and just go and throw them straight in the ocean, that garbage island isn't going to build itself ya know.

    • +1

How much if that island comes from Australia?

      Do you know?

      • Yeah I was reading on that recently… not much at all. We can thank our some of our SE Asian cousins for that. Single use economy and no way to deal with the waste as they don't have the infrastructure, so they just chuck it in the river. Problem solved.

  • +5

It's funny how 10 years ago this would have been like any other deal, in fact probably wouldn't have been upvoted much due to being expensive.

But now it's a hugely controversal post with many downvotes just because some people have been told by their government that by them banning plastic straws they will save the environment 🤣

    • +3

Yeah.. literally everything in the supermarket is packaged in plastic. If you’re going to neg, at least be consistent.

      • +2

You remind me of this meme

    • +3

People will believe anything if it suits the agenda…

  • +2

If you use a straw, you suck!
You are a sucker if you use this deal.

  • Why not use reusable and washable silicon straws?

  • TBH I hate paper straw
Putting it in drink for slightly longer and the become unusable
Kids like biting straw and those paper ones can no longer be used

At home i always use stainless steel ones and silicone straw for kids

  • +2

    Is this ozBargain? or ozisthisgoodfortheenvironement?

  • +7

The wealthy take a 10 min flight in their private jets and we are using paper straws. What a world.

  • +1

    Thanks grabbed 15,000

  • hell no

  • +2

I've always found it ridiculous to create a single use item, that will be around in 20 years time, rather than raise your cup another 6 inches to your mouth. There was a time where straws were for little children who didn't have their training mugs handy.
Disabled persons different story of course.
And don't give me crap about needing straws for paper cups or because there's cream in your drink, that just means you've become conditioned to be a baby.

  • +2

Wonder if I can buy a box of single use plastic bags? I miss those…

    • +3

I bought a few packs of them from aliexpress when the nonsense ban went in place here. I still have enough to see me through most of this year, have really come in handy especially now they’re phasing out the 15c plastic bags at woolies etc too

  • +2

    People who use straws suck.

  • +1

The people saying paper straws are terrible, I completely agree.

The rubber ones are great though. We bought 10 or so for like $5 and reusing them is extremely easy. Go in the dishwasher with no issues.

  • -1

There is a reason why they are banned. Why try to find loop holes? Wish ozbargain introduced posting rules that support the enviornment.

    • -2

ahh yes the world should sure worry about something that contributes 0.025% to total plastic flow into the ocean.

      • +4

Its called step by step. The problem is when people insist on staying on the first step. Same mentality of people that litter, oh it is just just a piece of plastic, wont make much difference..

        • +2

Why not ban non-reusable coffee cups? Why not ban all the plastic-lined ice cream and drinks cups?

This is not baby steps… it's virtue signaling. Do some real action, or get out. (Talking about legislators…)

          • @brannor: Why do you need a straw, do your lips not work? The reason to ban straws first is because they have no legitimate purpose for someone with a high enough IQ to use their mouth properly.

      • I never realized it was that much. Should have been banned sooner then.

    • +3

Nah we don’t need more rules. We can boycott the shit out of this product though

      • Nailed it. If you object, don't consume it. Just don't preach about why everyone else should cancel it. In retrospect.

But some folk feel so much more justified with virtue-signalling - how can we deny them?

    • +2

The world needs less government not more. Why do you want to be told what you can and cant do with everything?

      • So you dont agree with the government banning asbestos and other stuff that could give you cancer? Youve heard plastics are now in almost in anything we eat right?

Theres just some people and orgs that need to be told what to do.

    • Giving you a +1 so your negative vote for this post doesn't get revoked like mine.

    • There is a reason why they are banned

      Why?

These are positive for the environment because manufacturing these removes toxic oil from the environment to turn it into plastic to make these straws.

  • +4

I own food operations and make 100's of meals a week., and since the delivery market has massively increased. I never send straws out for any smoothie, milk shake, Or any cuttelery with any meal ever. Straws get crushed and wet in transit and cause problems, and anything wooden in paper also dont arrive in sound condition.
I am happy top get 1 in 500 complaint of no straw or fork, instead of 1 in 5 for damage or unclean.

If you walk into my operations. 50c for our sealed knife and fork packets. (and this is my costs)

That is the cost of saving the planet for a insane NOTHING plastic weight. Go to your fridge and pantry right now, and I bet you are carrying 5 to 10kg of plastic for the things you bought in the last few weeks max. The thoughts that a straw or fork makes a minute difference in insave.

Now get in your car thats made of 100kg's of plastic and burn your fuel and go to work!!!

Im a big fan of 7/11 Coffee when on road, and drinking out of those paper lids, makes me gag every time.

Selective out rage, Ban it ALL or deal with it.

I always thought $5 for a woolies bag, and $5 added to any food item that has any plastic attached would be a absolute fix (Extra $5 tax for a bottle of drink, Extra $5 for a packet of chips or choc bar would be a real fix)

    • You own a food operations company and u send out hundreds of plastic or wood utensils wrapped in plastic not even to mention the amount of carbon your operation is using… and you're telling us we can do better? Ever heard of a mirror?

  • +2

    🐪🐫🐪🐫
    Think of all the camels.
The ones with the sore backs.

    • +1

Instructions clear. Now tracking on 3 camels for cheaper deal.

      • Where would we be without camels.
Camels are important to (price) history.

  • +1

If you believe that simply refraining from using plastic straws is a positive step for the environment, consider the vast amount of masks, plastic bottles, and other plastic products that you may have used in recent years.

By eliminating plastic straws does nothing to the environment but it does give those political correctness group to judge people, while drinking in plastic bottles.

By eliminating people on the planet removes much more plastic you can imagine.

    • +1

      Whataboutism.

      • -1

        Facts are scary mum.

        • +1

Clearly, because you lot love to deflect from the issue with whatboutisms.

It's like you refuse to acknowledge that you can't just outright ban plastics, it takes time to come up with alternatives, acknowledge some things aren't viable without plastics and other issues.
But straws are an easy fix. There's cardboard straws, bamboo straws, wood straws, stainless steel straws and silicone straws. Plus I'm sure there's plenty of other options.

  • +1

Should have loaded up with maccas plastic straws for free last year… just help yourself…

  • +4

Seriously if China and India do nothing our effort is a token gesture for the Greens. We suffer with soggy straws whilst little change to the overall picture is happening .

  • +3

Thanks op, I buy these whenever I see a special. Not putting up with paper straws or buying metal ones. I keep a pack of plastic ones in each car and at work so I can enjoy the drinks.

  • +8

Neg cause I don't agree with more plastic usage.

    • -1

Yet you negged on your phone / tablet /laptop/desktop/watch made with lots of plastic that will never be recycled.

      • +5
      • Single use vs sustained use?

    • Giving you a +1 so your negative vote for this post doesn't get revoked like mine.

    • Do you buy clothes?

Because most clothes are individually packed in plastic bags which are then opened by the store and thrown away before the clothing is put out for sale.

  • +4

This isn't a bargain, it is just a referendum on plastic straws. Cheaper can be found on ebay.

+1 vote for silicone straws though, they are pretty cheap, reusable and 100x better than paper straws.

    • +6

A referendum??? Surely it’s just straw polling.

  • +1

    Too expensive lol
I have a better deal. Why don’t you pay me $10 to have them 😝

  • +3

Straws are not the problem. Straws are a choice by big industry to put this on the consumer.

Walk in to the supermarket, EVERYTHING is plastic. Where does this go?

Straws are like .00001% of the problem here, but little man feels like he's doing something good for the environment when he moves straws off the counter.

Meanwhile, everything else in the shop is plastic… but little man feels good, and big industry has deflected the problem to the retailer and consumer.

  • +1

BTW wouldn't it be easy and not too costly for paper bags to get your fresh produce ?
At least with that I don't have a soggy straw . I can live with a soggy bag .

  • +1

    thanks. got a pack

  • +4

FFS just drink from the container.

    • +6

      No,

    • +1

I can't stir my frozen coke spider in the container with the container.

      Stop being so selfish…

    • -1

Giving you a +1 so your negative vote for this post doesn't get revoked like mine.

    • But when I do people think I'm an alcoholic

  • +1

so funny reading all these comments - most people dont understand the term single use plastics and whats able to be recyclable which makes me laugh.

    • +1

Funny … most plastics arent even recycled.

  • +2

    Great Deal!
I will get 6000 of them, and hand them out for free outside cafes in the area of Yarra Council, VIC. :)

  • People saying buy metallic/reusable straws. I don't normally drink stuff that needs straws. Maybe the odd cocktail on a holiday or something. But I was at a theme park recently. It was hot so I got a slurpee. Came with a paper straw. Thing was useless, had to go back and get like 5 more straws to finish the drink. So now I gotta bring a metallic straw everywhere on the off chance I buy a drink that needs one? I'm a guy, I don't carry a handbag with me for things I might need a couple times a year!

    • But this "deal" is for plastic straws that you would have to carry with you in your handbag anyway.

I say "deal" because it is actually not even the cheapest option.

      • Yeah I know. I'm just making a general argument against the "buy a metallic straw" argument. Not the merits of this as a deal.

For someone like my wife, she can carry a straw and it makes sense because she has an iced coffee almost daily. Whereas I might have a drink that needs a straw a couple times a year. I ain't carrying a straw in my pocket everytime I go out in case I need it lol.

        • Yeah fair enough I get what you mean. Perhaps I didn't mean you specifically. My point was more that the people purchasing this deal are going to have to carry the straws around with them either way, so wouldn't it make more sense if they carried one or two reusable ones around instead of filling their bag up with a sea of plastic straws?

        • -1

leave the metal/glass straw in your car. Crisis averted. If you're too far from your car, but need a straw (sounds unlikely from your original explanation), can't get to your car, don't like the straws provided, not near your wife (who can carry the straw), go without… it does sound like you're constructing an unlikely scenario to justify plastic straws, which is weird, right?

          • +1

@kiriakoz: Unlikely scenario? The slurpee at the theme park happened the other day. No sht I could find a way to resolve the issue, that's what I did, I went back, got 5 more paper straws. Going without a straw as u suggest on a slurpee though.. What am I an animal?

            • @IdBuyThat4aDollar: You weren't near your car (where you can put your straw)? Your wife (who can put your straw in her handbag) wasn't with you?

              • @kiriakoz: You been to Movie World bro?

You gonna walk all the way back to the carpark on a 33c day to get a straw? That defeats the purpose of getting a slurpee on a hot day. Not to mention, the car park is outside the ticketed area rofl

                • @IdBuyThat4aDollar: 33c, eh? That's a cheap day.

                  I'll show myself out…

                  • @UncleRico: If it makes u feel better, next time I pack for a trip to the Gold Coast, I'll try remember to pack a straw in my luggage, to keep in my car rental, in case I ever decide to walk back 1 km from where i am on a 33°C day, so I can enjoy a slurpee I didn't even know ahead of time I was going to buy 😂

                    • @IdBuyThat4aDollar: I hate to think of all the Carbon Dioxide you'd be pumping out into the environment whilst you huffed and puffed your way back to the car.

Won't somebody think of the children?!?

                      • +1

@UncleRico: Well it seems this thread proves the point that most people aren't going to bother carrying straws around with them - irrespective of what they're made of.

    • Shelve it bro

  • +1

Haven’t used straws at home since the plastic straws ban, even iced coffee with cream doesn’t need straw, just need to get used to it (don’t like paper straws). If you really want a straws, get bamboo or stainless steel reusable straws.

    • +3

Glass ones are good too, means you can ensure they are clean more easily too.

  • +7
    • +2

thanks. canclled this deal and got your deal x 2 with ebay plus discount too.

      • +1

Don't say "cancel" without a trigger warning!

    • Thanks for the cheaper sucky sucky.

  • -1

There is no freedom left in this country. You don’t even have control over your own body! The mask-wearing, virtue-signalling pincushions have taken over. Forget about the simple pleasure of sipping your chosen beverage through a functional straw…

Oh no.. my right to throw plastic in landfill where it will reside for thousands of years is being impinged.
