Sight & Sound Theatres Offers 'Jesus' Production for Free Easter Weekend Viewing

3062

Similar to this popular deal, from 3 years ago. Sight and Sound Theatre are offering a free three-day streaming of JESUS theatrical production

Full disclosure and a trigger warning for the antitheists among us, this a theatre production about Jesus if that's not your thing feel free to move along.

That being said for anyone else this is actually a pretty good watch, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality 3 years ago and have happily watched it again. The kids really enjoyed it as well, it's basically a live theatrical performance of the story of Jesus with a brief Christian message at the end.

Here is the trailer for anyone interested.

And now for some cut and paste.

“Sight and Sound’s ‘Jesus’ show premiered 2018 and ran for two years, and the way it was produced was so cinematic in nature with the 300-foot wrap-around stage that it adapted perfectly to the screen,” Enck told The Christian Post. “When we saw it on the screen as a finished product, we were blown away by it. We’re so passionate about it because this story needs to be out there, told in this fresh new way.”

Over a million people have watched the live performance of “Jesus” at Sight & Sound’s theater in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Katie Miller, corporate communications manager at Sight & Sound told CP that the production takes a "very personal approach to the Jesus story.”

“We meet so many characters and learn the story of who they were both before and after they encounter Jesus," she said. “After watching the show, so many people came to us and said, ‘That’s my story. That’s how Jesus rescued me.' Act One is about individual rescues from the Bible; Act Two is about our rescue.

"I think that's one of the most inspiring and unexpected things that came out of that show. People saw themselves in the characters and in the way that Jesus was meeting every single person, right where they were at, and bringing to them what they needed to be rescued.”

The event also dramatizes inspirational moments from Jesus’ life, from challenging the Pharisees to healing the sick and hurting. According to Enck, the writers wanted to highlight Jesus' humanity and ability to connect with those of every walk of life.

  • Any productions that include old testament content also? Why do so many ignore the old testament and just focus on the new? Shouldn't we believe both books content equally?

I mean, we all know Empire Strikes Back was the better movie, but that doesn't mean we should just completely ignore the facts and lessons that Star Wars - A New Hope could teach us.

OP has strong opinions on forcing Christianity on others:

Why you shared this comment? After reading it, had no choice but to convert to Christianity. It was forced on me. 😤

Lol, keep looking, you might find more "incriminating" comments

    • Don't hurt yourself reaching that hard will you.

Nice of you to tell everyone how triggered you are tho, you must be so cut deep down to go through someone's post history, be unable to find literally anything and still posting it pretending like you got a W.

      Keep malding bro.

    • +1

I don't see anything really in that comment thread that suggests what you are claiming of OP 🤷‍♂️

  • Jesus production well that's cute

  • God bless

Thanks OP. Watching this now over Easter lunch!
Quite a high quality production with some good effects and staging and so far seems to stay pretty faithful to scripture.

To any Christians here: all images of the Son of God are idols and a violation of the second commandment. This includes films with actors pretending to be Jesus Christ. Reject these false representations of the Lord and rely on the only revelation of Christ that God has ordained: the words of Scripture.

    • What about other images, statue etc?

      • Yes, all images of God (including the incarnate Son of God) are idols. They are lies, not accurately depicting him (which is impossible), but are the invention of man's corrupt imagination.
"Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." (John 20:29)

        • Thank you John. All praise John the baptist!

        • -1

Exodus 25:18-20, God commands Moses to carve statues for a religious purpose: two cherubim which would sit atop the Ark of the Covenant.

The worship of anything, not just statues, in place of God is idolatry, there are times when statues are not just tolerable but recommended.

The way you interpret the bible that mean God promoted idolatry and Moses committed idolatry. You need to take into consideration other text for your theology.

          • @gto21: Resorting to the cherubim on the mercy seat to defend the use of images in worship smacks of desperation. I wonder if you even know how many of the Israelites actually saw the cherubim? I'll tell you. None of them, except the high priest on one day of the year, the Day of Atonement. The reason the cherubim were formed for the mercy seat is because everything in the tabernacle was patterned after the heavenly tabernacle, and in heaven there are actual cherubim surrounding the throne of God. The golden cherubim had nothing to do with assisting the worship of the Israelites, as they never even saw them. It is absurd and ignorant to attempt to use them as permission to reject the second commandment and to form images for worship.

            • @baptist1611: The second commandment says "You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven" And you just said, "in heaven there are actual cherubim".

The second commandment also says on earth. Tell me who saw the bronze snake in Numbers 21:6-9? Was it only the high priest?

What will happen to the high priest if he commits idolatry in the holy of holies?

Based on your theology, God ordered idolatry, and Moses and the high priest committed idolatry. Its a distortion of the scriptures.

              https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/1611_Exodus-20-4/

              • @gto21: God commanded the brasen serpent to be made for a particular time and purpose so it could not be idolatry. Centuries later it did become an idol and had to be destroyed. (2 Kings 18:4)
No reasonable or objective person would use God's command to make the brasen serpent to justify the making of images which God has not commanded, but rather forbidden.
To be honest, it sounds like you are less interested in seeking to know how to worship God acceptably, and more interested in justifying your personal preference to worship idols.
I would encourage you to prayerfully read this sermon I wrote on the subject: https://playpdf.sermonaudio.com/media/112518036210/112518036…

                • -1

@baptist1611: It's pretty much what I said. The object itself is not an idol.

Since you are honest. Let's be honest, you need to step down and stop teaching heresy. You don't know how to interpret the bible.

What's your view on the KJV? Is the English translation perfect? Is the English translation inspired? I'm asking because I heard different views on it.

                  • @gto21: Your incoherent comments suggest you have no interest in knowing God's will for your life, so there's little point in continuing this dialogue. Proverbs 26:4

    • Thats just your interpretation of the second commandment. It doesn't explicitly say that.

    Thanks for the post!

Happy Easter to all and peace be to all including those who hate Christ. Take care!

    • Nobody is hating on Christ. Everybody loves Buddy Jesus. Judgemental Christians on the other hand…

      • Ok so how is hating this movie helping with that?

Happy Easter everyone. No doubt Le Enlightened Atheists/Redditors/Labor voters are enjoying their time! They will be in my prayers.

    • +5

Atheists, Redditors and Labor votors? You could have just said "most of the under 50 population"

Sure was a pretty enjoyable pagan chocolate eating celebration. Really should be move 6 months so it's at the right season. Also ate some ancient torture device buns just to mix things up.

Edit re your last line: Imagine someone telling you they are going to pray to the flying spaghetti monster for you. You would dismiss that as pointless, like writing a letter to the tooth fairy. The atheist will feel exactly the same way about you saying you will pray for them.

      • Perhaps they are praying to Thor.

Many people have been both earnest and devout praying to Thor in the past.

But it is seen by many (particularly religious folk including Christians) as comical or silly nowadays (or crazy), (or delusional); if one prayed to Thor today.

But you know, for some non religious ppl, they see no difference in praying to Thor or some Christian God.

(I see I’ve said almost the exact same thing as the previous post. I just think Thor is a better example because He is a familiar comical character in the Marvel movies).

        • +2

Ahh, Thor. One of many gods. IIRC, ~60.

          Good reminder of this quote:

“I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”

          • +2

@ihfree: That doesn't make sense an atheist is "a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods" so if you believe in one or many you aren't by definition an athiest.

          • @ihfree: If we use the same logic in other situations. We are all murderers. Some of us killed one person less than others.

We are all theist. I just believe in one more God than you.

            That's not how definition works.

            • +4

@gto21: The wording isn't perfect but the meaning is clear. Not understanding this is an interesting one as you frequently deal with a book full of contradiction, ambiguity and interpretation required.

Why do you believe in Jesus God and not one or many of the other gods? Most religious people are indoctrinated as children into whatever religion happens to be common in their region. Every religion has some level of evidence and "scholars" who say their religion is the one true religion. Every religion has those with unshakable faith. There is nothing inherently special about Christianity in that regard. (No answer required - this has been asked and answered millions of times already)

              • @ihfree: It's not a triangle, it's just one side less than a square. Just using your logic.

For a few reasons. One example: I believe the Kalam cosmological argument is a decent argument. So if someone believes in a physical God from all eternity. I don't believe it. That eliminates several Gods already. That I don't believe it can be true.

                • +1

@gto21: Feels a bit circular to me and talks about the existence of a god rather than a Christian god, so largely irrelevant other than ruling out faith in a handful of gods

                  • @ihfree: Its not irrelevant you did say other gods.

It also eliminate Pantheism. Another handful eliminated. Different worldviews are eliminated like atheism.

Its not just kalam cosmological argument. That's just one of them. Just one example.

To my knowledge I have a few option left. Until now I believe Christianity is more convincing than the rest. I know a bit about them too.

Some religion are exclusive. So that's another reason why some people reject other gods.

If I say someone accept theism, why not also accept atheism, agnotism etc. I don't think it make sense.

I don't think its circular reasoning. I was an agnostic. I became theist. And then a Christian. You have to prove its circular reasoning.

                    • +2

                      @gto21: As previously stated:

Every religion has those with unshakable faith. There is nothing inherently special about Christianity in that regard.

There is nothing unique about you, your faith, and your relationship with Christianity. There's someone else from a different religion who feels exactly the same way.

                      kalam cosmological argument

To clarify, this feels circular to me. And, without looking into it, I think it ignores current thinking on some aspects of the formation of the universe.

                      • @ihfree: There's someone else who feels the same way, that atheism is true. I don't know what you're trying to prove.

You keep saying it feels circular. I don't care about how you feel. What you said does not prove circular reasoning.

                        • @gto21: Difference is that I would agree with another Atheist who feels the same.

Another theist may have a different religion, God, interpretation or any number of other factors and feel the same as you with their faith. You could just as easily be arguing about the one true religion™.

I don't care about how you feel.

No feelings here - just explaining a previous comment. As previously stated, no response required

                          • @ihfree: I don't think it makes sense. Atheists does not agree on everything. For example, I heard different definitions of atheism from atheists.

                            • @gto21: Going back to the definition -

a person who does not believe in the existence of a god or any gods

There may be variation in terms of reasoning - but if you fall outside of that definition, you're not an atheist.
