  • Cheapest I've seen anywhere. You think this controller is getting updated/superseded soon?

    • +1

      Nope.

They just released the Series Core. I think it's safe to assume they aren't going to make drastic changes to their controller scheme.

      • Fair enough, now the question becomes should I buy one as a spare lol. Still wonder why there's such a steep discount though.

      • Series Core? Are you talking about the Elite?

  • @ozbs25 add Catch on title just in case Amazon goes out of stock

  • +1

Anyone recommend this for a tesla model y? I know the ps5 controllers currently only work on model x and s

  • Wow. Can't say no at that price. Thanks OP.

  • +1

Great deal, but I wish the bluetooth connectivity to pc wasn't so garbage on these

    • +2

Are you using the dongle thing?

      • +3

The controller dongle isn’t Bluetooth (hence why it doesn’t suck).

    • +4

I never have a problem with the bluetooth, have you checked your antenna?

Or alternatively can use the wireless dongle.

      • Bluetooth is hot garbage for input lag. Xboxes don’t use Bluetooth. It’s only included for other devices.

        • +4

          Hot garbage?
9ms slower than wired and 5ms slower than adaptor.

          Imperceptible to most players

          • @docmartin: Not sure if they're referring to input lag. The common issue is Bluetooth can tank fps on games randomly. No idea why, but with the dongle no issues.

Edit: this issue may have been patched, I've just been playing wired or through a dongle since.

    • Did you follow these steps as per one of the comments?
Got your controller? 1. Working through USB but not working in wireless mode? 2. Think your controller is defective? No, the controller is not defective. Since this a very new controller there are certain updates that MS is forcing on us. I will guide you through this steps to get your controller working wirelessly. 1. Update Windows 10 to build 20H2 launched in Oct 2020. 2. Apply all cumulative updates. 3. Download the Xbox Accessories App from the Windows store. 4. Connect the controller through USB, the Xbox App will tell you there is an update. Apply the update. 5. Renove the old Bluetooth pairings of the controller. 6. Restart system. 7. Connect through Bluetooth. And it should work now.

    • Mine was bad but after I added the WiFi antenna to my motherboard I've had no issues. Is that something you can try?

      • +1

Yeah, my PC is on Ethernet, but I still need the antenna because the bluetooth uses it.

        • Some deal for me. I've never used WiFi on my PC but read somewhere that it helps with bluetooth. Had to dig up the antenna that came with the motherboard. Been good ever since.

        • Can vouch for this. Used these controllers on wifi antenna motherboards and they have always been reliable.

  • +1

    DEAL!

  • Hmm I want a controller for my PC. xbox or whatever playstation controller is out now?

    • +15

Considering Microsoft is both Windows and XBox, get an Xbox controller.

    • it's personal preference, with steam input the playstation controllers work well on windows. So it's just down to which one you find more comfortable and if you want the extra features of the playstation controller such as the gyro, which can be useful for some configurations, such as flick stick. Personally I have both and mainly use the xbox controller because I find it more comfortable.

  • Almost.bought it for $69 yesterday

  • +2

good price. also if you're gaming on pc and not on xbox, for an extra $30 it's probably worth it to get the 8bitdo ultimate bluetooth if you want longevity and extra features

    • Is it better? I was wondering that the other day… I only play in PC so i don't know which one to buy.

      • The xbox controller works pretty seamlessly especially if you have the "Xbox wireless adapter" and Windows 10/11.

The 8bitdo controllers are great if you have multiple devices you intend to use with the controller. ie. PC, Switch etc.
Just check that your devices are supported before buying.

For both, if using via Bluetooth, expect the usual Bluetooth niggles.

Outside of that it's up to personal preference on shape, additional functionality etc.

    • That's what I use, and it's a great controller. Even better, I can take the same controller and move into the lounge and use it on the Nvidia Shield, open Steam Link and play in there too. It's a great controller.

  • +1

A little off topic sorry - can anyone recommend a reliable bluetooth dongle/adaptor for PC?

  • Does this need an adapter if using for PC gaming?

    • +1

      Not if you have BT

    • +3

You can connect via a USB c cable also.

      • And turn it into a wired controller (don't even need batteries inside them).

  • One of my Original Series X Controllers just died and wont switch on, I'm sure it was not mishandled .. time to get a replacement ..

    Thanks OP !!

    • Less than 2 years old? Warranty it.

      • warranty expired 6 Mar .. Purchased from this deal

        • Worth a try anyway. Would come under ACL Gray area

    • Connect it to the console with a usbc cable. THen see it it powers on.

If it does, check for controller updates.

I had this happen in the past and after connecting it wired and updating it was fine. (i got the controller free as non functional and was going to use it for spares)

      • I've tried that.. wired with console, laptop, powerbank .. it does not power on :-(

  • +3

Tempting since I've been wanting to replace my aged Xbox 360 controller I've been using with my PC. Most people selling 2nd hand ones are selling them for $50 anyway. Plus this is new.

    • Same boat. 360 controller still pretty okay after 10+ years, makes me want to keep it.

      • I considered upgrading until I read many reviews saying the 360 controllers are better. So I haven't bothered.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.
Couldn't not buy it at this price as a spare with some of the recent $5 cashback bonus Amazon vouchers from SB/CR… my toddler will eat my current one soon enough.

  • does this work with ps5

    • +3

      only with the microsoft ps5

      • PlayBoxStation 360 too.

    • -6

      It does. Go for it.

  • +2

    Thanks! Price match JB!

  • Great price for xcloud/game pass

  • Electric volt Color is $10 more (match catch)

  • Shii … my Catch $15 voucher has just expired

  • Any use for a non gamer?

    • Prob for display purposes

Was going to get it for my pc but I realise I don't play any controller games, mostly fps.

    • Shortcuts in Video Editing.

  • The Xbox controller is great and works with almost any modern PC game. Just wish you could purchase the wireless adapter separately.

    • Do they work on on phones and R Pi too?

      • I personally haven't tried but I don't see why it wouldn't.

      • They sell adaptors to mount phones to the controller. (so yes on phone)

      • At least for Android phones, I can confirm they work fine. I've been using one to play both native games and emulators.

  • that's about as much as I would pay for one. came bundled with my Series X, used it for couple times, got Elite 2 and haven't touched this one since.

Elite 2 is souch more. except they lost the share button on it. can't say I approve

  • Good price

  • It's a shame that the other colours are more expensive. I really want to get red and blue controllers.

    • yep I have the blue ones they are really nice I got mine free from telstra though with points.

      • +1

My last 3 Xbox controllers have been via the Telstra rewards program (technically haven't even used them yet… hope they don't have any faulty face or shoulder buttons lol). I had some points expiring and 2 more controllers was what I decided on as well as digital Xbox gift cards (everything else that was interesting was out of stock boo-urns).

The blue controller was my last purchased controller and it still works decently (mostly used when pc gaming). My other controllers that I'm using concurrently (white controller from the Series S console box and the black controller from the Series X console box). I did have some dramas initially when the Carbon Black controller first came out, I thought I'd upgrade and see what it was like just using them for my original Xbox One and pc respectively (had to return a few, as one had a stuck B button, another a stuck A button, another a stuck Y button, and two others had the RB button play up and the RT trigger play up).

Quality control seems a lot better now though (well not for the Elites)

        • i use mine in my tesla to play games works great. I am mainly a PC gamer so I rarely use controllers.

  • +2

One thing to note about these is the lack of motion controls.

Many won't care, but more games are coming out with gyro aiming and it makes emulating 3DS/Wii U/Switch more convenient.

    • What would be a good controller for PC that has this motion feature?

      • +1

The Dualshock 4 or DualSense have full Windows support. The Switch Pro also works well (Steam has native support), but while I have never had issues with it before I know that others have.

Edit: Forgot to mention 8BitDo, they also work well though I do have motion control issues with the Pro 2 and Cemu.

        • @Hiphopopotamus Thankyou :) does the Dualshock 4 (that's the latest Playstation controller?) come with a dongle to plug into the PC or does it require blutooth? Because I don't have that unfortunately.

          • +1

            @wonderboy4: No dongles are included.

All the controllers I listed require Bluetooth if you want to use them wirelessly, same for 8BitDo.

The latest 8BitDo Ultimate includes a dongle but is a little pricey.

            • @Hiphopopotamus: Thanks, I suppose I would need a new motherboard that supports Blutooth now?

But I also have an official 8BitDo dongle for another 8BitDo controller I have, does it support multiple devices so I can connect the PRO 2 as well? I know Xbox controller supports multiple gamepads off one dongle but not sure about 8bitdo.

I havent heard of 8bitdo Ultimate, I will check this out, thanks 👍

              • @wonderboy4: You can just buy a Bluetooth USB dongle for a few bucks. My main concern with that would be reception, if you have front USB ports definitely plug it in there.

The 8BitDo dongles support one controller at a time. If it's the universal one you can also use it to connect a single DualShock 4 or Switch Pro, a recent Xbox Controller update broke compatibility so they only work with the newer v2 adapter.

                • @Hiphopopotamus: Thankyou, I know the ones you mean, I bought 2 of these (Blutooth USB dongle) so far and neither worked no matter what I did, so unfortunately I must avoid trying that again.

That's really bad it only supports one controller at a time Xbox one so much better, supports 6 I think. I will try to find out what version my dongle is, thanks for that, hopefully its the one that supports other controllers too, that way I could use it for the Dual Shock maybe.

Thanks again for all this info 👍

      • +1

Love my 8BitDo Pro 2, it has 6-axis motion sensor, modifiable vibration, 3 profiles, 2 additional back paddle buttons, and has a switch on the back to emulate 4 input styles and works on Windows, macOS, Android, Switch, Linux, and Raspberry Pi.

        • Thankyou @FabMan that sounds really good too, lots of features! Do you also have issues with CEMU too? Thanks for the link I will check this out 👍

  • This is excellent. I use my Xbox controller on my PC regularly and it's much better than using a keyboard depending on which games you're playing

  • I have the previous gen windows wireless receiver (xbox one), would this controller be compatible?

  • No gyro

JBHIFI price match + Perks code ==> $49 :) Great deal!

    • whats the perks code you speak of man? I have JB closeby and need new controller.

EDIT: Just did some google, thnx :)
EDIT: JB perks is broken, can't join and JB say they're having issues with it.

      • I had issues joining for months and months and then I just could. I have no idea why it didn't work and equally why I was suddenly able to join. I didn't do anything differently.

  • Thank you, JBHIFI price matched.

  • Work with the Mac Mini ?

  • OZBargained?

    • +2

Amazon is OOS as per the title but I can still see it for $59 on catch. I can't change the link to the store. Only mods can do that.

      • I got only Amazon Prime and I'm that guy that doesn't want to pay additional shipping fees. Maybe it's the best time for me to use those OnePass free trials.

        Cheers, OP

        • Yeah, I've got Amazon Prime, eBay Plus and a Costco membership. Not sure how much more I want to take on. I don't really look at Catch other than to see if Amazon is matching them.
