        • Honestly a lot of the NAS drives have the software that'll do a raid setup for you, just have the HDD's in the NAS, the NAS will recognise them, check them for errors, then it'll build the NAS to how you want it.

    • Don't need a good deal if you have old hardware. Just run unraid. It can run well on potato hardware and you and upgrade it at any time 😁

  • +2

Wasn't expecting to wake up and immediately buy a hard drive this morning… I need a coffee.

    • Relevant name @Buyingcrap

      • +1

        Should be called Buyingacap

  • Deciding on 4x20 vs 6x20.

    What's a good 4 or 6 bay nas.

Don't want to diy a PC anymore

  • +1

Great post. Generally standalone drives above 8TB are very expensive, and the only way to get a cheaper large capacity drive is to shuck a USB drive.

If you purchase at least 2 HDDs, you get 5% off. They can be different capacities too eg 1x20TB and 2x16TB, 5% off the total order preis.

The larger capacity onces are Helium filled according to online reviews, I'm not sure about smaller drives like the 8TB. Helium filled means less energy draw and presumably less heat buildup for sustained transfers.

  • Are these for a laptop internal storage? Can it be used as a normal hard drive on a single machine or has to be NAS?

    • +1

They should be fine as a normal hard drive for a desktop but be careful with the Barracuda/SMR. I think people tend to overblow how bad these are (I have 3), but it's true they have their quirks you need to be aware of. In particularly if you're regularly writing and especially re-writing you probably don't want an SMR. It's out of stock anyway.

Be aware some people find the Iron Wolves a bit noisy.

I don't think any modern laptop has space for a 3.5" HD. I mean a bunch don't even have space for a 2.5" anymore being exclusively M.2 NVMe. So no they're not suitable for laptops.

  • Ouch, after years of prices moving slow,I finally caved in about a year ago for 16tb for only 350a unit I think.

    These are very good prices

  • 8TB Barracuda is out of stock it seems. So is the 18TB

    • Interesting enough while the Barracuda seems out of stock on Amazon US website, the 18TB is still in stock there.

  • if I already have a 3x 4tb nas array with these models, adding an 8tb is harmless right?

  • Seagate IronWolf Pro 18TB - OOS

Ended up getting 16TB x2, not sure why

    • Now showing at $657.84 😥

      • Others which are still available should be in slashed prices.
Can confirm 8,12, 16, and 20 are still available on discount prices

    • I picked up 4x 18's around an hour ago (they must have just avoided the extra customs duties) - had 2x 16Tb's in my cart at the normal price when I noticed there had been a price decrease, as I was about to pick some up to upgrade the NAS. Pretty happy with this deal.

  • I bought 2x 12tb ironwolfs for like 330 each not long ago :( . These are good prices.

  • Mine just shipped!

  • Looks like deals are over?

    • No, at least for me, 12, 16 and 20 still have the deal price.

Both 8TBs and also the 18TB are not available at the moment.

    • +1

Yes this was discussed more. We'll see what happens. Someone reported theirs shipped but Amazon has cancelled orders including ones already shipped for pricing errors before.

Edit: This https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13642849/redir is where it being an error was discussed before

  • 18TB deal is over but got a different capacity to max out my NAS

  • Damn. Expires just when I was adding two 8tb ironwolfs to the cart.

    • It still works for some capacities. They must have a cap on the number of promos for each.

  • Looks like I got an order for a 20TB in on time but surely this has to be a price error?

    • It's supposed to be converted from USD to AUD, they forgot haha.

      • Damn, makes sense. My card hasn't been charged in the last ~30 mins since ordering too.

I'd be happy with a voucher in that case.

  • Thans a ton, what a deal. Just got 4 x 20tb.

  • Only IronWolf Pro 12TB/16TB/20TB left now.

As mentioned, my 8TB barracuda was cancelled, but only because I ordered as stock ran out. It's been several hours without issue with my 16TB IronWolf Pro order, I had paid via giftcard I bought for this so I will be fairly angry if it is cancelled because of regional pricing error. Honestly its not that much lower than sale prices, Seagate are likely still making a profit.

When the pricing is within reason, Amazon should uphold Sold by Amazon listings more.

  • 5x 12 ordered for my unRAID.

    Come on shipping

  • for anyone wondering.. ironwolf pro vs exos comparison
    https://www.minitool.com/backup-tips/seagate-exos-vs-ironwol…

    • bear in mind the new ironwolfs are upgraded, NT

  • Thx ordered 3x12tb for my first raid5…gulp. Now need to work out what’s a suitable 4bay nas for 4K video editing.

    • Yeah don’t worry, I now see they are way overpriced so looks like I will diy.

      • Have a look at a DAS off eBay. All you need is a PCI RAID card in your PC.

You will get full 6GBPS read/write spped, with an array of 4 x 3.5" drives in RAID0 you will see 500-600MB/s.
        https://imgur.com/a/IGWw7yh

You can get a 12 bay 3.5" unit for about $500. Lots of room for expansion :)

        • Thx will have a look.

  • Great deal.Ordered 2*16TB

  • +1

Just woke up and bought 2 x 16tb, now can any expert recommend some NAS? I’m deciding between SYNOLOGY ds220+ and QNAP TS 364.

    • -1

I'd recommend waiting until the drives actually ship to order a NAS. It's almost certainly a price error, won't be shipping and that you could wait for a really good deal on a NAS rather than purchase now for drives that may not arrive.

      • Good idea, thanks!

        • would wait until they arrive and you can confirm the model in the box

    • +1

Personal preference. I prefer Synology as things eel a bit more polished. Others will recommend UnRaid, but
newbies and peace of mind I’d recommend Synology.

    • I alway use qnap as better price/value ratio.

Might be hard to use for a non tech person

      • I'm very much into messing around with tech, heard that qnap has better hardware config whereas synology's software is better. May I ask what's your experience with qnap's software system?

        • for me is ok as I make a living on computer stuff. a lot of people reported qnap is not friendly though.

also some synology models force using synology brand ram hdd ssd etc. not good

  • these good for a 24/7 NVR?

    • Overkill - you want the IronWolf Surveillance disks, which are cheaper SMR disks, but that’s ok because they’re optimised for continuous write and occasional read, rather than continuous read, write and archiving like NAS disks.

      • +3

At these prices the Ironwolf Pro's are still cheaper than Skyhawk surveillance.

  • Damn, I got 1x16TB a few weeks back for over $400, only arrived a few days ago lol.
Ah well, I'll buy another 16TB I suppose.

  • DIY cloud :))
    A ripper thanks.

  • Was tempted to buy 4 for my raid. Ended up going with 1 20tb. Let's see just how bad Amazon packaging is.

  • Thanks for posting. I've been wanting to upgrade my 4x 3TB drives in my NAS for a while and settled on 4x 12TB drives.

8TB would've been sufficient but they aren't available/I'm too slow, lol.

  • Thanks for this deal!

I first purchased 5 of the 20tb then got slapped with a $200 import fee so split my order into 2.

Absolute banger of a bargain. 🎉

  • WARRANTY: cut and pasted from the 16tb link above.

How about the Warranty in Australia?
    Answer:
Yes when bought from a registered dealer.
By xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx on 25 May 2022
From Seagate Australia web site: Products purchased from distributors but returned outside of the distributors’ sales territory, may not be eligible for warranty services.

So if purchased from Amazon Australia but sold and shipped from Amazon US then you may have to return it to the US to claim warranty.

    • Amazon generally upholds the warranty themselves when you bother them enough, they will say no first, followed by a yes.

  • Wanted 8x 8TB to replace my 8x 4TB Ironwolfs in the NAS.

The 8TB were sold out (what a steal) and bought 8x 12TB instead for just over $1400. Very cheap and I'm glad I waited. Thanks OP.

  • 16Tb's are all gone now.

  • Missed it, but good to see such a great deal on mechanical HDDs.

  • 16TB is now gone too. I purchased 2 and was about to go back to buy 1 more but its now gone up to $568.02 damn it. Now I will wait until they go on sale again to get another.

  • Went to buy a 16TB….and its gone
Went to buy a 12TB….got one…now thinking I should have bought two, whilst reading LordPanda who bought 8….lol

  • Damn missed out on a 8tb. Already have 4*8TB but at this price I would've bought one for a spare!

  • Hello fellow WD sale OzBargainers

Awaits the Seagate cancellations without automatic promotional credit

    • +1

I can confirm that I placed 2 orders of 2x20TB version and they have shipped. So hopefully no cancellations. Also this deal has been alive a long time for there to be price errors.

  • Thanks OP got the 12 good price

  • 16TB is back to full price as well

  • 5% off didn't apply for 2 in cart….stops me buying more than I need :)

    • It applies when you go into the checkout. Sorry, not sorry.

      • Didn't for me ;)

  • Does anyone know how to scan (HD) drives for physical damages (bad sectors errors) faster than using Windows CHKDSK which would take a week! to scan a 20TB disk?

Ordered one 20TB to be used as an external USB HD via an USB adapter. Speeds with this setup are OK as I have been experiencing with my current one (Seagate Barracuda 4TB)

    • Not faster but hdsentinel will do a full service (windows)

    • +2

Bad sector count should be in the SMART data and can be read instantaneously?

I use CrystalDiskInfo for reading SMART data.

  • +1

oh bummer, I just bought 4Tb less than a month ago for the price higher than 8Tb in this deal! I guess I'm calling a sickie to cry in bed for the rest of the day…

  • Wow, this is a super deal, pity the 8TB's are gone.

  • Crazy deal, hope it doesn't all get cancelled. Would have been happy with 8TB but 12 it is

  • +1

    2 x 8tb itonwolf already shipped

    • Same here!

  • +2

    Thanks for posting this deal!
    Purchased 12x 20TB

    • +2

      omg 12?…

      • +1

        that's a lotta porn..

    • +2

Hey, can you add me as a friend on Plex 😉 lol

      • +1

Bargain hunter have no friend 😀, the only friend they have is the cheapest price.

        • No one has as many friends as the one with many cheeses!

  • dang these deals always in themiddle of the night….

  • Thanks - purchased 2 x 12tb.

  • Damnit just ordered 4x16tb exos drives yesterday for 325 each
    And they've already shipped

    • +1

      Same, trying to cancel.
Bear in mind, most of these are the NE model, not the NT, so the exos are a bit better

  • Seeing this makes me feel sick. Late last year I bought 4x10TB Ironwolfs for my Unraid server from Mwave for $300 each, with $120 in vouchers coming back. That was meant to be a decent deal. Net spend: $1080.

I can now get 4x12TB for $720… WTF

Of course I've had to bite. So freaking annoying though. Maybe I'll use my current 10TB drives in a virtualized TrueNAS VM for high priority data protection.

  • Is it possible to buy an enclosure and use these as a portable hard drive or can they only be used in a NAS or desktop?

    • +1

They sell plenty of sata external HDD enclosures. So yes, definitely viable.

  • Keep in mind the recent update in pro models, the new models being NT which are a fair bit better with write seeds, lifetime, and array number

  • Brilliant. Thanks OP!
Had to 'settle' for 16TB Pro's to replace my current 8TB Ironwolves.

I have previously purchased 2 16TB Exos drives from Amazon.
Packaging was not great but both drives passed tests and worked on delivery.
One started to experience block issues and failed SMART and Seatools tests. There was no issue with warranty and I was able to get it exchanged via Seagate Singapore.

  • Can someone please share a screenshot of their 16TB pro order for price protection?
